Deathlord Monster List version 1.0.0 by Andrew Schultz(schultza@earthlink.net) This is the monster information for the Apple and should work for the Commodore as well. Please do not reproduce this for profit without my permission. However, if you ask me by name and for a specific FAQ, I should look relatively favorably at the FAQ. I don't do this for money, and don't want others unfairly profiting. ** AD SPACE ** My page: http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Exhibit/2762 My Apple games page: http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Exhibit/2762/games/games.htm My old RPG maps page: http://members.fortunecity.com/cartographics My Deathlord color maps page: http://members.fortunecity.com/cartographics/dl/tmphtm.htm ****outside-link recommendation:**** http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Realm/4610/deathlord Wilson Lau's Deathlord page has lots of neat stuff about the game. ================================ OUTLINE INTRODUCTION MONSTER INFO HOW I DISCOVERED THIS VERSIONS/CREDITS ================================ INTRODUCTION This document tells what various monsters in Deathlord do and how tough they are to kill. It's not easy to remember but even after solving the game I was still very curious and hopefully old-school RPG fans will find this useful too. MONSTER INFO LV=level(determines spell and special hit abilities) HP=hit points(scaled) AC=10 - armor class ##=maximum number found in combat A = # of attacks DMG=damage done(1-x, random) Ex=experience. Each person gets experience in a battle only if he performs a useful action(i.e. a Shisai can heal or cast a protect spell.) He only gets the experience for one monster, which is uniquely defined as there is only one monster type to fight per combat. I am 95% sure I've seen instances where you even get experience if you flee or die. ?=I believe this is relative rarity for random combats in dungeons or outdoors. Specialties are abbreviated but SPELLS a monster can cast are in CAPS. Lower case are what they can do with/in lieu of attacks. poi=poison ill=give disease. slay=lethal hit possibility. This is more likely if the monster is a higher level or you are a lower level. stone=turn you to stone. drain=drain you a level scream=lethal scream summon=summon new monsters In general these are less likely to happen if you're at a higher level. SPELL STUFF(numbers are my best estimate) MOTU--paralyzes you TODO--a spell like the Mahotsukai's. The higher level, the more fireballs. L1ZAP--24 damage for level 31 L2ZAP--30 damage for level 31 L3ZAP--40 damage for level 31 L4ZAP--54 damage for level 31 L5ZAP--72 damage for level 31 L6ZAP--94 damage for level 31 L7ZAP--120 damage for level 31 Note that the spells do not correspond to any special spells your players can learn. They just wouldn't fit in a table that would be small enough so I slapped it on at the end. Also some monsters have the same attributed more than once in the file data but it doesn't seem to make a huge difference in the odds it will happen. The order doesn't seem to make a difference(i.e. a monster casts L4 or L7 zap) either. HOW I DISCOVERED THIS I didn't work all this out by hand. In fact I have never seen a Doom Golem or Safir so there was some guesswork here. Trial and error with the bytes when next to certain monsters(I copied a lot of disk images and kept backups) helped me isolate what one byte was for. Of course some character traits were obvious(undead, casts TODO, summons) and some monsters such as Stonebrows had low armor class so it was easy to look for anomalies with them. It was also easy to see stuff like maximum monsters or number of attacks or damage. The tough part was decoding where the monsters were. For that I used an exclusive-or search program on strings such as "EHEMOTH"(the first letter is sometimes corrupted) and realized the names popped up if everything was XOR'ed with 0x65 hexadecimal. Once I had the monster names I was able to pick through the rest of the information. End of FAQ proper ================================ VERSIONS/CREDITS 1.0.0 submitted to GameFAQs 02/02/02. Should be complete. THANKS Wilson Lau for the original FAQ where I rediscovered this game and for his wonderful website above. ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net for the disk images of this game. Even the faulty one helped me hack to get a lot of this information! The Deathlord discussion list(RIP, or at least as far as I know.) DoomGolem for his map editor that started me on a Deathlord-figuring-out binge. DJGPP for the C compiler that helped me create the table above.
