A: They each have Pokemon that you can't catch in the other version. Here is a list of the Pokemon that can only be caught in one of the game. Red: Mankey, Primeape, Oddish, Gloom, Vileplume, Growlithe, Arcanine, Ekans, Arbok, Electabuzz, Scyther. Blue: Meowth, Persian, Bellsprout, Weepinbell, Victreebell, Vulpix, Ninetales, Sandshrew, Sandslash, Magmar, Pinsir. Q: How do I catch the 3 starting pokemon? A: You can't. Q: Then how do you get the 3 starting pokemon? A: In order to do this you need: 2 Gameboys, 2 Pokemon games, and a link cable. First Gameboy A needs to start a new game. Have Gameboy A pick Charmander and trade with gameboy B when they get the chance. Have Gameboy A start another new game but this time with Bulbasaur and trade it to Gameboy B when they get the chance. Now do the same thing with Squritle. Then repeat all of these steps. At the end Gameboy B should have: 2 Charmanders, 2 Bulbasaurs, and 2 Squritles. Trade one of each to Gameboy A and now you have the 3 starting pokemon on each gameboy. Q: I beat Brock. How do I use Flash? A: You can't use it yet because you don't have any pokemon that know it. You need to get HM 5. Once you get that you can teach it to as many pokemon as you want. After you do that press start, go to pokemon, pick the one you taught it to, and click on flash. The same thing goes for Cut, Fly, Surf, and Strength. Q: What does the Moon/Leaf/Water/Fire/Thunder Stone do? A: If you use it on certain pokemon they will evolve.(Example: Use the Leaf Stone on Exeggcute and it evolves into Exeggutor.) Q: What does the Helix/Dome/Old Amber do? A: Once you get to Cinnabar Island you can take them to the Pokemon Lab and they will resurrect them into a Kabuto/Omanyte/Aerodactyl and give them to you. Q: Where can I get another Master Ball? A: Nowhere. You only get one so save it for Mewtwo. Q: How do I get a bicycle? A: You need to get a Bike Voucher from the man in Virmillion City. Q: How do you get Mew? A: The only way you can get Mew is with a Gameshark or a Gamegenie. Q: How can I climb the stairs in Pokemon Tower. It keeps telling me to leave when I try and climb them? A: You need the Sliph Scope. When you have that it will unmask the ghost and you will have to fight it. Q: How do you catch an Abra. Every time I fight it, it teleports away before I can weaken it enough to catch it. A: Just throw a pokéball as soon as you encounter one. There's a 33% chance that you will capture it. -If you have question to ask that I did not answer e-mail it to me and I will try to answer it.- =========================== 3> Pickin' the Pokemon =========================== If you would like to contribute to this section E-Mail me and you will be given credit. I need your thoughts on which of the 2 or 3 pokemon is the best and why. This section explains about which Pokemon you should pick when you have to decide between Pokemon. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- - <*> SWL467 says: I have been playing for quite some time and have pretty much mastered it. I have every Pokemon at level 100, (evolved forms and ones that don't evolve, no simpler forms) and I have battled many times with friends. In battling so much I have found the best team to use and have not lost since. Here is my team and why I have chosen it: (Note: Mewtwo is not listed because I do not use him. He is, however, the ultimate Pokemon) Water or Ice:Articuno-Well, all that can beat it is Rock, Fire, and Electric, and itcan kill pretty much anything with one hit. It's stats are very high.orGyarados-All that beats it is Electric. It is very powerful, andsurvives in battle for a while before finally being beaten. Grass or Poison:Sometimes I don't use a Grass, but when I do, I always use Exeggutor. The fact that he is part psychic cancels out many moves. It is slow butpowerful. Dragon/Fire/Ice/Electric:Dragonite-I taught mine Fire Blast, Thunder, and Blizzard, so I don'tusually use a fire. I still use an electric and an ice, though. If I dodecide to use a fire, I use Arcanine. Rock/Ground:Golem-Very high defense and very powerful. Also taught him Fire Blastand Rock Slide.or Rydon-ditto+I taught it Blizzard and Earthquake as well. I usually choose Rydon over Golem. Electric:Zapdos-There's nothing better. The best of the 3 legendary birds. 6th:Gengar-It is very fast with a high special. Also, only special moves hurt it.Alakazam-Makes up for low defense, offense, and HP with a very highspeed and the highest special of all Pokemon. Since it is pure psychic, not verymuch hurts it bad.Hitmonlee-In my opinion, the best Fighting Pokemon. Very fast with ahigh Attack.Persian-This pokemon is very underrated. It has a high speed and attack with moves such as Pay Day and Slash.Tauros-Also very underrated. The best Normal Pokemon in my opinion. High stats. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -- <*>When you first start off pick Bulbasaur. He is strong against rock and water, which is what the first 2 gym leaders use. If you pick Squritle you will only have an easy time with the first gym leader since he uses rock. If you pick Charmander you are going to have one hell of a fight in the beginning. He is WEAK against rock and water so you have to raise his levels pretty high in order to beat the first two leaders. Near the end of the game Charmander could easily beat Bulbasaur or Squritle in a fight. The pokemon that are good in the beginning really suck at the end of the game. Bulbasaur Squritle Charmander Beginning of game -Easy- -Medium- -Hard- End of game -Okay- -Good- -Great- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -- <*> In Saffron City you have to chose between a Hitmonlee and a Hitmonchan. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -- <*>In Celadon City you get a Eevee. You can only evolve him into one pokemon. You have to choose between a Jolteon, a Vaporeon, and a Flareon. If you give him a Thunder Stone he evolves into Jolteon, if you give him a Water Stone he evolves into Vaporeon, and if you give him a Fire Stone he evolves into Flareon. Jfrimpter suggests that you should evolve Eevee into whatever is strong against Gary's main pokémon, i.e. Gary picks a Charmander you evolve Eevee into to Vaporeon. ==================== 4> Walkthrough ==================== ====================================================================== == If you have a walkthrough that you would like to submit you will be given credit. I just don't feel like writing one because I have seen so many out there it is pointless to make another. If I put yours on here you will be given credit. ====================================================================== == ==================== 5> Gym Leaders ==================== Brock-He uses rock Pokemon. He has a level 12 Geodude and a level 14 Onix. If you chose Squirtle or Bulbasaur in the beginning just use Bubble or Vine Whip. If you chose Charmander have him kill Geodude and when Onix comes out switch to another Pokemon. Heal Charmander back up to full health and the bring him out again. When Onix uses Bide use Ember twice and then switch to a low level Pokemon. Bide will do about 30 damage so you don't want it to hit Charmander. Just keep repeating that until Onix is dead. After you win you'll get the Earth Badge and TM 34, Bide. Save it until you capture a Geodude and teach it to him. Misty-She specializes in water pokemon. She has a level 18 Staryu and a level 21 Starmie. She shouldn't be much of a problem if you use Pikachu. If you didn't go back to Viridian Forest and catch one. Just train it up to level 20 and Misty should be a pushover. When you win you get the Cascade Badge and TM 11, Bubblebeam. Save Bubblebeam until you get a Gyrados. Lt. Surge-He uses a level 21 Voltorb, a level 18 Pikachu, and a level 24 Raichu. Use a pokemon that knows Dig and they'll each go down in one hit. You get the Thunder Badge and TM 24, Thunderbolt for winning. Teach Thunderbolt to Pikachu. Erika-She uses grass Pokemon. She has a level 24 Tangela, a level 29 Vileplume, and a level 29 Victreebell. If you chose Charmander this is where it starts to pay off. Just use any fire Pokemon at level 20+ and her Pokemon will go down in flames. After you beat her she gives you the Rainbow badge and TM 21, Mega Drain. Save Mega Drain until you get a good grass type Pokemon. Sabrina- She uses psychic Pokemon. She has a level 38 Kadabra, a level 37 Mr. Mime, a level 38 Venomoth, and a level 43 Alakazam. She is hard to beat. I used a level 34 Charmeleon and kept hitting them with Slash. When you beat her she gives you the Marsh Badge and TM 46, Psywave. teach this to an Kadabra. Koga-He uses poison pokemon. He has a level 37 Koffing, a level 39 Muk, a level 37 Koffing, and a level 43 Weezing. Ground type Pokemon do very well as do poison type. If you have a level 30+ poison pokemon bring him out first. Since he is a poison type he can't get poisoned. If you don't have a strong poison pokemon bring lots of Antidotes. After you beat his Pokemon expect him to give you the Soul Badge and TM 06, Toxic. Teach this to a Koffing. Blaine-He uses fire pokemon. He has a level 42 Growlithe, a level 40 Ponyta, a level 42 Rapidash, and a level 47 Arcanine. Use any good water Pokemon and this guy is a joke. If you don't have any good water Pokemon teach Bubblebeam to a level 30+ Pokemon. If you already used Bubblebeam on a Pokemon Train the Pokemon that you used it on. After you beat this guy he gives you the Volcano Badge and TM 38, Fire Blast. Giovanni- He uses rock and ground type Pokemon. He has a level 45 Rhyhorn, a level 42 Dugtrio, a level 44 Nidoqueen, a level 45 Nidoking, and a level 50 Rhydon. Use water type Pokemon. If it's strong enough use the one that you used to beat Blaine. When you beat this guy he gives you the Earth Badge and TM 27, Fissure. Teach Fissure to a Pokemon that's always with you, but not that good at fighting. ============================= 6> List of TM's and HM's ============================= TM 01 - Mega Punch TM 02 - Razor Wind TM 03 - Sword's Dance TM 04 - Whirlwind TM 05 - Mega Kick TM 06 - Toxic TM 07 - Horn Drill TM 08 - Body Slam TM 09 - Take Down TM 10 - Double Edge TM 11 - Bubble Beam TM 12 - Water Gun TM 13 - Ice Beam TM 14 - Blizzard TM 15 - Hyper Beam TM 16 - Pay Day TM 17 - Submission TM 18 - Counter TM 19 - Seismic Toss TM 20 - Rage TM 21 - Mega Drain TM 22 - Solar Beam TM 23 - Dragon Rage TM 24 - Thunderbolt TM 25 - Thunder TM 26 - Earthquake TM 27 - Fissure TM 28 - Dig TM 29 - Psychic TM 30 - Teleport TM 31 - Mimic TM 32 - Double Team TM 33 - Reflect TM 34 - Bide TM 35 - Metronome TM 36 - Self Destruct TM 37 - Egg Bomb TM 38 - Fire Blast TM 39 - Swift TM 40 - Skull Bash TM 41 - Soft Boiled TM 42 - Dream Eater TM 43 - Sky Attack TM 44 - Rest TM 45 - Thunder Wave TM 46 - Psywave TM 47 - Explosion TM 48 - Rock Slide TM 49 - Tri Attack TM 50 - Substitute ==================== 7> Ability List ==================== Thanks to MetroidMoo for letting me use his list. :) Here's how it's listed: Name / Type / PP / Effect ---------------------------------------------------------------- *A* ---------------------------------------------------------------- Absorb / Grass / 20 / Pokemon absorbs HP equal to 1/2 the damage dealt. The best thing about this game is that you get to see 150 pokemon in full 3D color. Apparently they battle against each other like in the coliseum on game boy. I've seen some pics of this game and they look very nice. Coming out in September 99. Pokemon Snap- In this game you drive around in a car and try to take pictures of wild pokemon. After you use up your roll of film Professor Oak rates them. You get more points if you take a picture of them while they're posing, eating, hunting, fighting, or if there are 2 in one picture. The more centered they are the more points you get. The object of the game is to take pictures of all 150 pokemon. There are few items to be found during the game, less than 10. You can also look for silhouettes of pokemon. There is 1 located on each level. When you find all 6 a bonus stage opens up. Pokemon Silver and Gold- Pretty much the same as red/blue except there are 250 pokemon!!! About half of them are completely new while the other half is male/female versions of the old pokemon (like Nidoran). Pokemon Pinball- I don't know anything about this one except that it is pinball and it is supposed to be really hard. ================ 12> Credits ================ <*>The Writer of this FAQ is Rich Kopczynski. <*>MetroidMoo contributed by letting me use his ability list and Pokemon descriptions. <*>www.sages.ign.com has been my main source for the upcoming Pokemon Games. <*>Jfrimpter added his thoughts on the Eevee evoulution chain. <*> SWL467 added his thoughts on the best pokemon team. ================ 13> Contact ================ You can e-mail me at r101885@yahoo.com if you have any comments, suggestions, or if you would like to add something.
