Pokémon Yellow is the newest game in the multi-billion dollar Pokémon series. Unlike Red & Blue, you get to pick Pikachu as your first Pokémon, battle Jessie and James, fight new trainers, and best of all, no Missingno. Pokémon! Pokémon Yellow will not be released in the United States until mid October, but I was lucky enough to get a copy of the Australian version, which is the same exact thing as it will be in America. :) I also have the ROM, which is legal because I have the cartridge. With the ROM, I can take screen shots of Pokémon Yellow and put it in my HTML version of this guide! And if you're thinking about importing it from Australia, it's the same thing as when it'll be released here, so take it from me: If you want to pay a couple of bucks extra to get it a few weeks early, import it! Also, Mew might be in Yellow. To see why, goto the "Can You Get Mew?" section later in this guide. Anyway, read this guide to learn more about Yellow! Enjoy reading this! *=============================================================================* /ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ\ / /ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ\ \ | | Version History | | \ \_____________________________________/ / \_______________________________________/ Version 2.0: MEW!!! MEW DISCOVERED!!! DO YOU WANT MEW?! THEN GOTO THE "CAN YOU GET MEW" SECTION!!! Version 1.8: I made some new GameShark codes today. And, we hit 100KB in size! Version 1.6: Aaarrrggghhh! Let's see... I've got 30+ e-mails asking for the Pokémon Yellow rom! Stop! Argh... Don't ask any questions in the FAQ section! Version 1.4: I added a new section, The Basics. I also changed the Ask Jesse section to the Mailbag. I also added the correct way to get Bulbasaur. Version 1.2: I got farther in the walkthrough, and added the Item List and the Attack List. It seems Pikachu's moves are the are the only set of moves that aren't the same as Red & Blue... I also added a Q&A and a Rumor List. Version 1.0: The start of the best Pokémon Yellow guide on the internet goes on the internet! More things are being updated daily, so keep watch! *=============================================================================* /ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ\ / /ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ\ \ | | The Differences | | \ \_____________________________________/ / \_______________________________________/ Here are all the differences I've noticed so far: Difference #1: You get to start out with Pikachu as your first Pokémon. Gary gets an Eevee. Difference #2: Pikachu follows you around on the screen, and you can talk to him, and hear his voice like in Pokémon Pinball, and see how he's feeling! Difference #3: There are more trainers around, like in the Viridian Forest, there is a trainer besides a Bug Catcher. She says, "Is that a Pikachu?" Difference #4: You can get Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle without trading. Difference #5: Pikachu will NOT accept a Thunder Stone, meaning you must trade for a Raichu. Difference #6: Jessie & James from Team Rocket fight you! There Pokémon are Ekans, Meowth, and Koffing. You first fight them in Mt. Moon. When you get to Lavender Town in the Pokémon Tower, they will have Arbok, Meowth, and Weezing. But they never get a Persian no matter what. Yahoo! Difference #7: All Pokémon have been redrawn and have different Pokédex data. Difference #8: All the trainers look better. For example, Brock has a shirt on, Misty has suspenders, etc. Difference #9: Some Pokémon have correct sprites. Like Oddish looks better than just a Pokémon figure. And Pikachu's new sprite is very noticeable, too. :) Difference #10: When in the Link-Cable Mode, you can trade, fight in the Colosseum, or fight in the Colosseum 2! The Colosseum 2 is like the Nintendo tournaments, but Mew is not allowed in! Does this shed some light to the Mew mystery? Difference #11: Nurse Joy is in the Pokémon Centers now, along with her Chansey! Also, Officer Jenny is in the game, other than just some police man. Difference #12: Different Pokémon can be found in different areas! For example, Mankey can be found outside Mt. Moon! And my favorite, Gyarados can be caught in the wild! Farfetch'd can be caught in the wild, too. So can Lickitung? I sure hope so. Difference #13: Pokémon learn different attacks at different levels, as well as some new ones! For example, Pikachu can learn Thunderbolt on his own! Yeah! I can't think of any other differences now. If you find anything I missed, send it to yoshi-7@mailcity.com and get full credit! Thanks! *=============================================================================* /ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ\ / /ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ\ \ | | Walkthrough | | \ \_____________________________________/ / \_______________________________________/ This is a walkthrough for Pokémon Yellow. I will use the default names for the characters. You are Ash, and your rival is Gary. Send in anything I missed! ********************* * Starting The Game * ********************* Things To Do: (1) Put Pokémon Yellow into your Game Boy/Game Boy Pocket/Game Boy Color. (2) Turn it on. (3) Choose New Game. (4) Enter your name, then enter your rival's name. (5) Begin! When you turn on your Game Boy, you will see a Nintendo logo, and then a little star flying over the GameFreak logo. Then, you'll see a little Pikachu running towards you, then he'll shoot across the screen, run closer to you, then he'll start surfing, then get a little closer, start flying on balloons, and then when he reaches you, he'll Thundershock you. He'll say "Pika!" then. Press the start button and choose New Game. Enter your name and your rival's name when Oak asks you to. Once that's done, it's time to begin playing Pokémon Yellow! *************** * Pallet Town * *************** Things To Do: (1) Withdraw the Potion from your PC. (2) Try to leave the town. (3) Get the Pikachu. (4) Get the Map. Pokémon Available: Pikachu (Only One) Items Available: Potion Welcome to Pokémon Yellow! You begin in your room, playing the Super NES. You are Ash, living in the town of Pallet. The first thing to do is to go withdraw the potion from your PC. Then, go downstairs and leave your house. Try to leave town, and Professor Oak will come and say not to go into the wild without your own Pokémon. Then, a wild Pikachu attacks! Professor Oak catches it, and then tells you to come to his lab. There is only one Poké Ball on the table. Gary is there, too. Oak tells you to take the Poké Ball, but Gary whines. Gary wants it! When you go to pick it up, Gary shoves you out of the way and snatches the Pokémon! Oak calls you to him and he gives you the untame Pikachu. As you try to leave the lab, Gary wants a fight. He sends out Eevee, and you send out your Pikachu. Keep using Thundershock and you'll win. After the fight, Gary gets mad and leaves. Then, the Pikachu pops out of it's Poké Ball! Oak says that this Pikachu won't stay in it's Poké Ball. Talk to Pikachu to see how he's feeling. When you're done, go up through the small opening to start walking on Route 1. <-------------------------TRAINER-------------------------> TRAINER: Gary OPPONENTS: Eevee (LV: 5) PRIZES: $175 Pikachu can easily take care of Eevee. Just keep using Thundershock. <-------------------------TRAINER-------------------------> *********** * Route 1 * *********** Things To Do: (1) Train Pikachu to at least LV 8. (2) Get the free Potion. Pokémon Available: Pidgey Rattata Items Available: Potion You should train your Pikachu to at least LV 8 here. This Parcel is Oak's custom Poké Ball! So, take the Parcel and heas back through Route 1 and back to Pallet Town... *************** * Pallet Town * *************** Things To Do: (1) Get the Pokédex from Oak. (2) Get the Town Map from Gary's sister. Pokémon Available: None Items Available: Pokédex Town Map Back at home... Actually, all you do here is go and talk to Professor Oak and Gary's sister. Go back into Oak's lab and talk to him. Gary will barge in, too. Oak will say that he's to old to list all the Pokémon data, so he gives you a Pokédex, a portable computer. After you get the Pokédex, go into Gary's house and talk to his sister. She'll give you the Town Map, no matter what Gary says. ***************** * Viridian City * ***************** Things To Do: (1) Buy at least 10 Poké Balls. Pokémon Available: None Items Available: None Now you're back in Viridian City. Go into the Poké Mart and buy at least 10 Poké Balls. Go back to Route 1 and catch Pidgey and Rattata. These are all the Pokémon I have so far. Name: Pidgey Number: 016 Height: 1'00" Weight: 4.0LB Description: Very docile. If attacked, it will often kick up sand to protect itself rather than fight back. Name: Pikachu Number: 025 Height: 1'04" Weight: 13.0LB Description: It keeps its tail raised to monitor its surroundings. If you yank its tail, it will try to bite you. Caterpie: If you touch the feeler on its head, it will release a stinky gas to protect itself. Metapod: It hardens to protect its weak body, but it may pop out of its shell. Butterfree: It has tiny scales on its wings. This allows it to fly in the rain. Mew: If you look at this pokemon under a microscope, you can see it's tiny hairs. Geodude: Often mistaken for rocks. If you step on it, it will get angry. Oddish: Usually mistaken for weeds. If you pull it out, it will scream. Gloom: Gloom has a horrible smell. But 1 out of 1000 people like Gloom's smell. I know there isn't much in the Pokédex now, but I'm working on catching more and typing up their data as fast as I can. Have any Pokémon data I missed? (Data from Yellow only, not Red & Blue.) If so, send it to me via e-mail. *=============================================================================* /ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ\ / /ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ\ \ | | The Item List | | \ \_____________________________________/ / \_______________________________________/ As far as I know, there are no new items in Pokémon Yellow. Here are the reasons: 1: Nintendo was keeping Mew a secret to keep us busy in Pokémon untill Yellow came out. Why not give Mew out now? 2: There is a Coliseum 2 in the game, which is like the Pokémon Tournaments in the Mall Tours. Mew isn't allowed in Coliseum 2. If you couldn't get Mew, why would they outlaw something you couldn't get? 3: Pocket Games magazine said all 152 Pokémon were catchable. This includes Mew and another one. Missingno. isn't in Yellow, so who's #152? Togepi?! CONFIRMED: IF YOU HAVE POKEMON RED, BLUE, OR YELLOW, YOU CAN GET MEW! FOR ABOUT FIVE BUCKS! GOTO THIS SITE TO GET HIM: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170109084 THIS IS MY AUCTION AND IT IS SAFE!!! *=============================================================================* /ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ\ / /ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ\ \ | | Rumor List | | \ \_____________________________________/ / \_______________________________________/ Here are some rumors I've heard about: Rumor #1: You can catch Raichu in the game. Truth: You CAN'T find Raichu anywhere! You must trade for him. Rumor #2: You can catch Mew in the game. Truth: Who knows, yet. So far signs point to yes on this one. Rumor #3: Pikachu can learn Surf. Truth: Nope! Pikachu cannot learn Surf. Rumor #4: You can catch Togepi in the game. Truth: I cannot say you can't catch Togepi yet. Rumor #5: You can get Misty and Brock to follow you around. Truth: Nope, nobody follows you except Pikachu. If you know of any rumors that I missed, e-mail me. *=============================================================================* /ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ\ / /ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ\ \ | | Mailbag/FAQ | | \ \_____________________________________/ / \_______________________________________/ Here at the Q&A section, you ask a question, and I'll give you an answer!
