Closing 10000 ============================================================================= 1. Introduction pyspe_1000 ============================================================================= Pikachu's Beach is a mini-game located within Pokemon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition. However, activating this mini-game is very difficult. It can be highly addictive, especially when your high score gets beaten by your friend, which it just did (11/03/01) (Darn you Player Guy Forever). Now, I must try to beat him (I thought I retired as the best, but he showed me). ============================================================================= 2. Obtaining a Surfing Pikachu pyspe_2000 ============================================================================= There are three ways to obtain a surfing pikachu: ------------------------------------ Gameshark - (Easiest way to get one) ------------------------------------ 0154D7CF to capture a wild pikachu, put it in first slot and use 013975D1 to change the last attack to surf (be careful, this will erase the last move, so use select in-battle to move the attack you want to delete to the fourth slot). ----------------------------------------- Pokemon Stadium - (Harder way to get one) ----------------------------------------- Through a big long process, a surfing pikachu can be obtained in Pokemon Stadium: You have to have finish the R-2 Prime Cup Master Ball Division using a Pikachu as one of your chosen three in your team, I suggest you use a very strong Pokémon in your team such as Mewtwo. Then use your strong Pokemon to obliterate the other Pokémon, After beating all of the Master Ball division and after it shows the pokémon you used. A screen with Pikachu in front of a sunset background will appear and it will inform you that "You won using PIKACHU" and if your PIKACHU has a spare space it will learn SURF. If not, you may choose which move to overwrite. In Pokémon Stadium when your PIKACHU uses SURF a surfboard will sprout from under its feet and he will SURF! It's quite cute! The exact requirements for receiving a surfing Pikachu thanks to Potatao Boy are as follows: 1. You must be competing in the R-2 Prime Cup Master Ball Division. 2. You cannot use a rental Pikachu. 3. You cannot register your team, It must come directly from the Transfer Pak. 4. Pikachu must be selected as one of the three Pokémon used during each battle, you do not have to actually select him to fight, he only has to be one of the three. 5. You can lose battles. --------------------------------------- Nintendo - (Near impossible to get one) --------------------------------------- Nintendo has offered contests to win surfing pikachus. ============================================================================= 3. Game Basics pyspe_3000 ============================================================================= The goal of the game is to get as many points as you can. Two things determine your final points after one round. -> HP points -> Radness points --------- HP points --------- You start off with 6000 HP points, and your HP decreases as you surf. If you fall off your board while surfing you lose about 'momentum' which causes you to lose HP points. If it is your first time trying the game do not worry about falling. However, if you are going for a high score you never want to fall off your board because HP points are precious for achieving high scores. You can press select to exit the game and start over if you wish. -------------- Radness Points -------------- Pikachu moves along with waves coming at him from behind. Then when you ramp off the top of the waves you can attempt to flip. Flipping gives you points for being "Rad". There are 4 types of flips. Each flip varies in difficulty and the more difficult, the more points. The four types are: single flip, double flip, 180 flip, and triple flip. To flip you must press left or right just as you reach the top of a wave. Single Flip - 50 points. Double Flip - 150 points. 180 Flip - 180 points. Triple Flip - 350 points. -------- Momentum -------- As far as I can tell, Pikachu has some sort of momentum that must build up in order to do good flips. If you fall, you lose all your momentum and makes you progress through the round slower, and therefore you lose more HP. If you fall and lose momentum is makes it very difficult to do good flips for about 10 seconds. Throughout this FAQ, I will make reference to momentum. (If you play the game you will see what I mean by 'momentum') ============================================================================= 4. Legend pyspe_4000 ============================================================================= +-----------------------------+ | Legend | | | | _i_ = upright pikachu | | ___ | | ! = upside-down pikachu | | | | /or\= angled pikachu | | | | | = side-ways pikachu | | | +-----------------------------+ ============================================================================= 5. Flipping pyspe_5000 ============================================================================= You can flip to either the left or the right. Choosing which way to flip can be important when it comes time to land your flip. After you flip, you must line up your surfboard with the angle of the wave beneath you. For example, if you are landing on a wave angling towards the top-left, then you want your surfboard to be pointing to the top-left. And if you want to land on a flat wave, make sure your board is flat. You will land as long as your surfboard is parallel to the wave you are landing on. If you do not line up your board correctly, you fall off your board and lose HP points. As mentioned, for different flips can be executed =============== a. Single Flips pyspe_5001 =============== Single Flips are the easiest. Simply hold left or hold right until your surfboard turns completely around, then land it. Single flips can be attempted off nearly all waves. \ ___ | ! / _i_ / | _ \ / \ _i_ / _ \ _i_ / / \ \ _i_ ___/ / \ \___________________________ / \ >_i_< ___/ \___________________________ (flipping pressing left) --OR-- / ___ | ! \ _i_ \ | _ / / \ _i_ / _ \ _i_ / / \ \ _i_ ___/ / \ \_____________________________ / \ >_i_< ___/ \_____________________________ (flipping pressing right) =============== b. Double Flips pyspe_5002 =============== Double flips are fairly easy. Simply hold left or hold right until your surfboard turns completely around twice, then land it. Double flips can be attempted off most waves. ___ / | \ _i_ ! / \ | | \___ _i_ / ! / _ | / \ \ / _ \ _i_ / / \ \ _i_ ___/ / \ \________________________________ / \ >_i_< ___/ \________________________________ (flipping to the left) --OR-- ___ \ | / _i_ ! \ / | | /___ _i_ \ ! \ _ | / \ / / _ \ _i_ / / \ \ _i_ ___/ / \ \________________________________ / \ >_i_< ___/ \________________________________ (flipping to the right) =============== c. 180 Flips pyspe_5003 =============== 180 flips are not quite as easy as double flips. Hold left or hold right until your surfboard turns completely around then switch from left to right (or right to left) and go around the other way once, then land it. 180 flips can be attempted off most waves. ___ / | \ _i_ ! \ \ | | /___ _i_ / ! \ _ | / \ / / _ \ _i_ / / \ \ _i_ ___/ / \ \________________________________ / \ >_i_< ___/ \________________________________ (flipping to the left, then to the right) --OR-- ___ \ | / _i_ ! / / | | \___ _i_ \ ! / _ | / \ \ / _ \ _i_ / / \ \ _i_ ___/ / \ \________________________________ / \ >_i_< ___/ \________________________________ (flipping to the left, then to the right) =============== d. Triple Flips pyspe_5004 =============== Triple flips are extremely hard. Hold left or hold right until your surfboard turns completely around 3 times, then land it. Triple flips can be attempted off only two wave types, which will be discussed later (600 or 522). ___ /|\ _i_ ! / \ | | \___ / ! / _i_ | _ \_i_ / \ / / _ \ | / / \ \ \___ / / \ \ ! / / / \ \ | _/ / \ \______________________________\___ / \ >_i_< _/ \__________________________________ (flipping to the left) --OR-- ___ \|/ _i_ ! \ / | | /___ \ ! \ _i_ | _ /_i_ / \ \ / _ \ | / / \ \ /___ / / \ \ ! \ / / \ \ | ___/ / \ \______________________________/___ / \ >_i_< ___/ \__________________________________ (flipping to the right) ============================================================================= 6. Types of Waves pyspe_6000 ============================================================================= There are many types of waves. Each wave varies from one unit to six units in height. _ _ / \ _ / \ / _ \ _ / \ / _ \ / / \ \ _ / \ / _ \ / / \ \ / / \ \ _ / \ / _ \ / / \ \ / / \ \ / / \ \ __/ \_/ _ \_/ / \ \_/ / \ \_/ / \ \_/ / \ \_ _ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ __/ \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ \_ 1 2 3 4 5 6 More important than the types of waves are the combinations of waves. While surfing you encounter sets of waves that are formed from the 1 - 6 heights. Each wave combination will be discussed in terms of, what kind of flip to do and which way to turn. The combination can be read by the heights in a set of three. For example, 222 is three waves in a row with a height of two each, and 600 is one wave with a height of 6, and no other waves. (i.e. Zeros are no waves) =============== a.
