What is the Yellow version of Pokemon? A. The yellow version is loosely based on the TV show. Q. Are there any differences between Red/Blue versions? A. There are a few differences. You can meet and fight against Jessie and James from the TV show. Many of the Pokemon pictures are different, and at times a lot better. You can get Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle, play a surfing game, and a few more things. Q. I heard it also works with the Gameboy Printer, is this true? A. Yes, you can print out stickers of the Pokedex entries. Q. Does this game have GBC support? A. The American version seems to while the Japanese version does not. Q. Does Pikachu talk? A. Well he talks in his own language, so I guess, yes he does talk. Q. Can I catch all 151 in Yellow? A. No, the Pokemon missing (besides Mew): Ekans, Arbok, Electabuzz, Weedle, Kakuna, Beedrill, Jynx, Raichu (there are no wild Pikachus except for the starter one which can't be evolved), Koffing, Weezing, Meowth, Persian and Magmar. Q. Are there any new Pokemon in this game? A. No. Q. How do I get Bulbasaur? A. You must make Pikachu very happy. To do this remember not to evolve him, trade him, put him in the PC, don't let him faint, etc. And to build up his happiness pretty quickly fight a few battles with him (about 20 or more). Make sure that he is the first in battle though. ****************************************** III. Walkthrough ****************************************** %%%Pallet Town, Route 1, Viridian City%%%% Treasures found in Pallet Town: Town Map Pokemon Found in Pallet Town: # 25 Pikachu (one) Treasures found in Route 1: Potion Pokemon Found in Route 1: # 16 Pidgey # 19 Rattata Treasures found in Viridian City: Potion TM 42 You start the game as normal. Grab a potion from your computer before you leave. Now head out of the town, and Professor Oak will stop you, but this time a Pikachu will attack you. Professor Oak will capture it and you will head to his lab. He will then tell you to take a Pokemon. Head to the only Poke Ball and try to take it, Gary will push you to the side and take it from you. Professor Oak will give you Pikachu. Leave and Gary will challenge you with his Eevee. You should be able to beat him easily. You will also notice that Pikachu will follow you around instead of staying in his Poke Ball. -------Gary---------------- Trainer: Gary Pokemon: Eevee Lv.5 Prize- $175 This battle is very, very easy. His Eevee is pretty weak and with Pikachu to begin with you should have very little trouble defeating him. Just think of this as practice for the bigger battles to come. --------------------------- *Note- If you talk to your Pikachu you can see it's expression towards you. Now head to Route 1 and up to Viridian City, be sure to get a Potion from the guy on Route 1. Head to the store to pick up Oak's Parcel and give it to Professor Oak to receive your Pokedex. If you want go to Gary's House and get a Town Map from his sister. Before heading to Route 2 check the bush near the exit of Viridian City. You will find a Potion there. Now head up towards Route 2. %%%Route 22, Route 2, Viridian Forest%%%%% Pokemon Found in Route 22: # 19 Rattata # 21 Spearow # 29 Nidoran (F) # 32 Nidoran (M) # 52 Mankey Pokemon Found in Route 2: # 16 Pidgey # 19 Rattata # 29 Nidoran (F) # 32 Nidoran (M) # 129 Mr. Mime (trade) Treasures found in Viridian Forest: Poke Ball Potion x2 Pokemon Found in Viridian Forest: # 10 Caterpie # 11 Metapod # 16 Pidgey # 17 Pidgeotto It's optional but if you want head to Route 22 to the left of Viridian City. There you will find the Pokemon League, along with Gary and a different set of Pokemon to catch. If not head towards Route 2, and through Viridian Forest. Nothing too special here so just head on through. -------Gary---------------- Trainer: Gary Pokemon: Spearow Lv.9 Eevee Lv.8 Prize- $280 This battle is very easy. His Spearow, being prone to Electric attack, will quickly fall to Pikachu in no time. As for his Eevee any Pokemon you have at the time at about the same level should work quite well. Not too difficult, and a quick an easy way to gain experience and money. --------------------------- %%%Pewter City & Route 3%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Pokemon found in Route 3: # 19 Rattata # 21 Spearow # 27 Sandshrew # 56 Mankey # 129 Magikarp (bought) Treasures found in Pewter City: TM34 Old Amber Again the only thing real important is the battle with Brock. Be sure to stock up on items like Poke Balls and potions before heading on. Make your way through Route 3, and be sure to get your Pokemon leveled up. Also beware of the guy selling the Magikarp. It's not worth the money, and you could always get one for free later on anyways. -------Brock--------------- Trainer: Brock Pokemon: Geodude Lv.10 Onix Lv.12 Prize- Boulder Badge - $1188 - TM34 Geez, this battle is a lot tougher without Squirtle or Bulbasaur. Since just about any Pokemon you have will have little effect on Brock's Pokemon, try to build up your Pokemon's levels a few levels higher than his. A Butterfree at Lv.10 with Confusion, a Mankey at Lv.9 with Low Kick, or one of the Nidos with Double Kick will help you get through this battle much easier. --------------------------- %%%Mt. There is a hidden Moon Stone as well near the fossils. Before heading up the stairs make a right into a dead corridor and search the ground for a Moon Stone. Near the end of Mt. Moon you will find two fossils. You can only take one, and either one will result in a pretty tough Pokemon. Get the Helix for Omanyte and the Dome for Kabuto. This is also the first time that you will meet Team Rocket's very own Jessie and James. -------Jessie & James------ Trainer: Jessie & James Pokemon: Ekans Lv.14 Meowth Lv.14 Koffing Lv.14 Prize: $420 This battle is pretty tough. Team Rocket can actually put up a good fight this time. Since no Pokemon you have will have a complete advantage over Jessie and James Pokemon, just get your levels at about 2 levels higher than theirs, and you should have little trouble taking them out. --------------------------- %%%Route 4 & Cerulean City%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Treasures found in Route 4: TM04 Pokemon found in Route 4: # 19 Rattata # 21 Spearow # 27 Sandshrew # 56 Mankey Treasures found in Cerulean City: Rare Candy (hidden) TM11 TM28 Pokemon found in Cerulean City: # 01 Bulbasaur (one) The next stop is in Cerulean City. Stock up and be sure to get your Pokemon leveled up, before heading off to fight Misty. If you head to the guy who tells you about the badges, and search through his backyard you will find a Rare Candy. Another thing that is different in the Yellow version is that where the Police Officer use to stand, Officer Jenny is now there. Also if you head to the house next to the Poke Mart you will find a Bulbasaur which you can get! To get Bulbasaur you must make Pikachu happy. Do this by letting him battle first and NOT letting him faint, trading him putting him in the computer. -------Misty--------------- Trainer: Misty Pokemon: Staryu Lv.18 Starmie Lv.21 Prize- Cascade Badge - $2079 - TM11 From Brock to Misty this battle is 10 times easier than Brock. Pikachu will demolish Staryu and Starmie in no time. Just be sure that your Pikachu is at least as high as Lv.18 to make the battle even easier. You can try other Pokemon if you want, just to gain their levels. --------------------------- -------Gary---------------- Trainer: Gary Pokemon: Spearow Lv.18 Sandshrew Lv.15 Rattata Lv.15 Eevee Lv.17 Prize- $595 Well after fighting Misty this battle is pretty simple as well. They are pretty easy, and will quickly help you to gain levels. Defeating all 5 will also get you a Nugget. Another Yellow exclusive is that you can also get Charmander. Head straight up from the Nugget Bridge to find a trainer. He says that he cannot raise his Pokemon and gives it to you if you promise to take good care of it. Say yes, and you got yourself a Charmander. Route 24 & 25 has a ton of trainers running around which will net you quite a bit of experience. Head to Bill's house to get the SS Ticket. As soon as you get the ticket head back to Cerulean and go to where Officer Jenny was. The house can now be accessed, when you exit the house on the other side you will find a Rocket. You will also meet a girl who wants to trade a Cubone for a Machoke. If you do trade you will get a Machoke that will then evolve into a Machamp. When you step off the stairs going down take one step left and press A. You will find a hidden Full Restore. Now make your way to Vermilion City. Points of interest here are an Old Rod from the fishing guru. Grab the Bike Voucher from the President of the Pokemon Fan Club and head back to Cerulean to get your bike. Another great surprise awaits you here. Officer Jenny is in this town and will give you a Squirtle as soon as you beat Lt. Surge. But since his gym is inaccessible right now head to the SS Anne and fight all the trainers there, and get HM01 from the Captain. If you look in the kitchen and in one of the garbage cans you will find a Great Ball. With everything done in the SS Anne teach any Pokemon, that can learn it, Cut and head off to face Lt. Surge. You will find that Lt. Surge has some security in his gym. Search the garbage cans to find the switch. When you find one the other is right next to it, it is also appears randomly so just keep trying. -------Gary---------------- Trainer: Gary Pokemon: Spearow Lv.19 Rattata Lv.16 Sandshrew Lv.18 Eevee Lv.20 Prize- $1300 Well if you've been building your Pokemon evenly any one will be pretty good against Gary. Of course with Pikachu, Bulbasaur, and Charmander on your team, Gary should be a piece of cake. --------------------------- -------Lt. Surge----------- Trainer: Lt. Surge Pokemon: Raichu Lv.28 Prize- Thunder Badge - $2772 - TM24 A Lv.28 Raichu and it's a monster! Do not use any Flying or Water type Pokemon that you may have, they will all die almost, if not instantly. A ground type has some advantage over Raichu, but because of Raichu's power it may not matter. I suggest you build your Pokemon to at least Lv.30 or you may have a difficult time defeating Surge. Diglett's or a Geodude/Graveler/Golem would be most effective against Raichu. Use Diglett's Dig or any of Geodude's moves and you will have an easier time against Surge. --------------------------- %%%Route 11 & Diglett's Cave%%%%%%%%%%%% Treasures found in Route 11: Escape Rope (hidden) Pokemon found on Route 11: # 16 Pidgey # 17 Pidgeotto # 19 Rattata # 20 Raticate # 96 Drowzee Pokemon found in Diglett's Cave: # 50 Diglett # 51 Dugtrio On Route 11 you will find your way blocked by a sleeping Snorlax. You cannot do anything at the moment to wake it up so just head to Diglett's Cave. In the meantime if you've caught at least 30 kinds of Pokemon head to the building at the end of Route 11. There one of Professor Oak's aide will give you the itemfinder. Before heading to Diglett's cave be sure to have a Pokemon with the CUT skill. You will need it to get through the area. Also if you have an extra Clefairy a boy will trade it for a Mr. Mime. Also in another building one of Professor Oak's aide will give you HM05 which will help in the Rock Tunnel. While you're at it head back to Viridian and use CUT to get TM 42. Then head back to Pewter and grab the Old Amber from behind the museum. Now head back to Cerulean City and CUT the bush that blocked the path to Route 9. %%%Route 9, 10 & Rock Tunnel%%%%%%%%%%%% Treasures found on Route 9: TM30 Pokemon found on Route 9: # 19 Rattata # 20 Raticate # 21 Spearow # 22 Fearow # 29 Nidoran (F) # 30 Nidorina # 32 Nidoran (M) # 33 Nidorino Pokemon found on Route 10: # 19 Rattata # 20 Raticate # 29 Nidoran (F) # 32 Nidoran (M) # 66 Machop # 81 Magnemite Pokemon found on Rock Tunnel: # 41 Zubat # 66 Machop # 74 Geodude # 95 Onix Another basic route for you to quickly gain levels. Although it may be tempting to catch a ghost at the Pokemon Tower, you will be unable to without the use of the Silph Scope. And since there isn't anything else to do at the moment, head towards Route 8. Route 8 is another one of your basic routes so just head to the building in the upper corner. This will allow you to reach Route 7 as well as Celadon City. %%%Celadon City & The Game Corner%%%%%%% Treasures found in Celadon City: Coin Case TM 13 TM 18 TM 48 TM 49 Pokemon found in Celadon City: # 37 Vulpix- 1000 Coins # 40 Wigglytuff- 2680 Coins # 63 Abra- 230 Coins # 123 Scyther- 6500 Coins # 127 Pinsir- 6500 Coins # 133 Eevee # 137 Porygon- 9999 Coins Celadon City is home to the biggest stores in all of Pokemon. Here you will also find the rare, but versatile Eevee who can evolve into 3 different types of Pokemon. Head behind the Pokemon Center and go through the back way of the Celadon Mansion. Reach the top floor and Eevee will be yours. If you want more water give it the Water Stone and evolve it into Vaporeon, a Thunder Stone will evolve it into Jolteon, and the fire stone will evolve it into Flareon. Take your pick, they are all great Pokemon to have on your team. Now head to the Celadon Dept. store. Talk to all the people behind the counter, (even if you're not buying anything), a man will give you TM 18 for free. Be sure to buy a Poke Doll, you'll need this later. Finally head to the very top floor. A girl there will say she is thristy. Go to the vending machine and buy 2 Fresh Water, 1 Soda Pop, and 1 Lemondae. Give here 1 of each and she will give you some TMs for your trouble. Finally head to the left of Celadon. You will find a Snorlax blocking your way. You can't do anything yet so jut Cut the bush and enter the house on the other side. There you will find HM 02 (Fly) which will save you a lot of trouble walking from one city to another. Here you will also find the Grass gym leader Erika. See the strategy below, if you need help in defeating her. Now head to one of the houses in the lower part of town. There you will find someone that will give you the coin case. With the coin case in hand head to the Game Corner, which should be the house right above where you got the Coin Case. Head to the Game Corner. You will find a Team Rocket member acting suspicious. Talk to him, and beat him in battle. When he disappears press the switch that he was guarding and you will enter Team Rocket's secret base. You need to find a lift key in order to reach the boss of Team Rocket. It is on the fourth basement. Go down and defeat the boss to receive the Silph Scope. With this you can know identify ghost and capture them. -------Erika--------------- Trainer: Erika Pokemon: Tangela Lv.30 Weepinbell Lv.32 Gloom Lv.32 Prize- Rainbow Badge - $3168 - TM21 This is another pretty easy battle. A fire type like the Charmander you received, or if you've leveled him to a Charmeleon or a Growlithe or Vulpix will make this battle a snap. Her Pokemon are all pretty easy to defeat, and you probably don't even need help on her. If you have no strong fire type, a psychic Pokemon like Mr. Mime or Alakazam will make short work of her. --------------------------- %%%Pokemon Tower%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Treasures found in Pokemon Tower: Awakening Elixer Escape Rope HP UP Nugget Rare Candy X Accuracy Pokemon found in Pokemon Tower: # 92 Gastly # 93 Haunter # 104 Cubone Pokemon Tower is pretty simple or hard depending on what Pokemon you bring. Before entering make sure you have the Silph Scope with you. Before you can search Pokemon Tower Gary will challenge you. He's still pretty easy, check the boss strategy at the bottom if you need help. If you have any Psychics with you they will wipe out the ghosts in no time. Just remember that physical attacks (mainly Normal and Fighting) are totally useless against them so come prepared. As you make your way up the tower you will find a heal point at the half point, a perfect opportunity to gain levels. As soon as you reach the final floor you will face Jessie and James once more. They're just as bad as their anime counterparts and you should be able to take them down in no time. Once you beat them talk to Mr. Fuji and get the Poke Flute from him. Now head to Saffron City. -------Gary---------------- Trainer: Gary Pokemon: Fearow Lv.25 Shellder Lv.23 Vulpix Lv.22 Sandshrew Lv.20 Eevee Lv.25 This battle is way too simple. Gary's Fearow and Shellder are both weak to Thunder (Pikachu), Vulpix and Sandshrew both weak to water (Squirtle), and his Eevee can be taken down with just about anything else. However this is only a sample of things to come. --------------------------- %%%Saffron City & Silph Co.%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Treasures found in Saffron City: Nugget TM 29 TM 31 Treasures found in Silph Co.: Calcium Card Key Escape Rope Full Heal HP Up Hyper Potion Max Revive Protein TM 03 TM 09 TM 36 X Accuracy Pokemon found in Saffron City: # 106 Hitmonlee # 107 Hitmonchan Pokemon found in Silph Co. # 131 Lapras You will spend quite some time in Saffron. So if you feel that you may not be strong enough (I recommend being around Level 40 or higher), head back to Pokemon Tower or any Route and level up. Now you will probably notice that Team Rocket blocks the entrance too most if not all of Saffron City, including the Gym. For now head to one of the bottom houses and get TM 29 from one of the citizens. Next head too the gym that is not being blocked off. Inside will be a gym full of fighting Pokemon. Not too difficult and beating the leader gives you a free Pokemon (much better than a badge if you ask me ^_^). Choose between either Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan, they're both good choices and you can't really go wrong with either. Now head to the center of town into the Silph Co., it's the biggest building there so you can't miss it. The Silph Co. is practically a maze so if you want to get this over with (I recommend beating everyone in the building for money and exp.), just follow these steps. Take the elevator to the fifth floor. Now head all the way to the left and then head down. Enter the teleporter tile, and then head back onto the teleporter tile. Head down, beat the rocket and then head right and grab the Card Key. Now head back to the elevator and go to the 3rd floor. Head down and open the locked door and enter the tile teleporter. You will meet Gary once more and his Pokemon and all evolved this time, however you should still have little trouble against him. Defeat him and you will receive a Lapras from one of the employees, just keep heading forward from there and you will reach Giovanni in no time. Defeat him to receive the Master Ball. With Team Rocket gone head to the gym and prepare to fight Sabrina. She is a monster in this game so be sure that all your Pokemon are strong enough to take her on -------Gary---------------- Trainer: Gary Pokemon: Sandslash Lv.38 Ninetales Lv.35 Cloyster Lv.37 Kadabra Lv.35 Vaporean, Jolteon, or Flareon Lv.40 Now this battle will be a bit tougher than the last one. The same water Pokemon you used last time and Pikachu can easily take out Sandslash, Nintales, Cloyster, Vaporean, and Flareon. However Gary's Kadabra and Jolteon are a different story. For Kadabra just pound on him with any attack (except Psychic) and hope you take him down quickly. Jolteon can be pretty tough, but using a Ground type Pokemon (Diglett, Dugtrio) can easily defeat Jolteon. --------------------------- -------Sabrina------------- Trainer: Sabrina Pokemon: Abra Lv.50 Kadabra Lv.50 Alakazam Lv.50 Prize- Marsh Badge - $4950 - TM 46 This will probably be your hardest battle yet. All of Sabrina's Pokemon are at Level 50, one of the strongest type in the game, Psychic, and overall can be just plain difficult. I highly suggest that you raise your Pokemon's level to at least 50 or around 50 to have a good chance. Sabrina's first two Abra and Kadabra are actually not too difficult I just took my strongest Pokemon and attacked. A few turns later they were both down. However Alakazam is a different story, if you can try putting him to sleep, that's what I did and had very little trouble. Just beware of Alakazam's recover or you may very well lose this match. --------------------------- %%%Route 16-18, Route 12-13%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Pokemon found on Route 16-18 # 19 Rattata # 20 Ratticate # 21 Spearow # 22 Fearow # 77 Ponyta # 84 Doduo # 85 Dodrio # 143 Snorlax Treasures found on Route 12: Iron TM 16 Treasures found on Route 15: TM 20 Pokemon found on Route 12-15: # 16 Pidgey # 17 Pidgeotto # 43 Oddish # 44 Gloom # 48 Venonat # 49 Venomoth # 69 Bellsprout # 83 Farfetch'd Well from here you need to travel to Fuchsia City. There are two ways too reach the town and you can take any route you wish to go to first. I will be explaining Route 16-18 then Route 12 & 13 Route 16-18 is the bicycle route (in that you need a bicycle to travel this path. You will also notice a Snorlax blocking your path. Play the Poke Flute to wake him up and begin the battle. Snorlax is a little tough to beat, considering that he can refill his energy. However he is also very difficult to catch. I had considerable trouble trying to catch him with a Great Ball, but had little problems with an Ultra Ball. Don't worry if you don't catch him, you still have one more chance. Considering that you go straight down and the game practically pushes you down, this is probably the fastest way there. There isn't much else to discuss about this route so I'll go on about the other two. Route 12-15 is the long way to Fuschia, but should still be visited. Another Snorlax blocks the path and if you didn't get it the first time this is your last chance. You will also find the Super Rod here, the best fishing rod in the game, and is probably the best reason to visit this route. Also on Route 12 & 13 you will find a Farfetch'd. One that doesn't have to be named "Dux". %%%Fuchsia & The Safari Zone%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Treasures found along Fuchsia City: Good Rod HM 04 TM 06 Treasures found in the Safari Zone: Carbos Full Restore Gold Teeth HM 03 Max Potion x2 Max Revive Nugget Protein TM 32 TM 37 TM 40 Pokemon found in Safari Zone: Entrance: # 29 Nidoran (F) # 32 Nidoran (M) # 33 Nidorino # 46 Paras # 47 Parasect # 102 Exeggcute # 111 Rhyhorn # 114 Tangela # 133 Chansey Section 1: # 29 Nidoran (F) # 30 Nidorina # 32 Nidoran (M) # 102 Exeggcute # 104 Cubone # 105 Marowak # 123 Scyther # 128 Tauros # 133 Chansey Section 2: # 29 Nidoran (F) # 30 Nidorina # 32 Nidoran (M) # 111 Rhyhorn # 102 Exeggcute # 104 Cubone # 111 Rhyhorn # 115 Kangaskhan # 123 Scyther # 127 Pinsir Section 3: # 29 Nidoran (F) # 32 Nidoran (M) # 33 Nidorino # 102 Exeggcute # 104 Cubone # 105 Marowak # 114 Tangela # 127 Pinsir # 128 Tauros The Safari Zone is what makes Fuchsia City stand out. You will probably have to make a few trips in order to get all the treasures and catch all the Pokemon they have there. The most important thing you need is the Gold Teeth and HM 03. HM 03 is the valuable Surf skill. One of the more useful HMs considering that you will need Surf from here on, and it's a pretty powerful skill as well. HM 03 is located at the very end of the Safari Zone, you will need to get there before your time runs out. The Gold Teeth is along the way as well. Now head to the warden's house. Give him the teeth and you will get HM 04, which will teach your Pokemon the Strength ability. Next door to the Warden is a guy who will give you the Good Rod. But if you took Route 12, you probably wouldn't want it. Now head for the gym and battle the leader Koga. There are invisible walls all over the place, so you may have to stumble your way through in order to find your way. Defeat Koga and you will receive the Soul Badge along with TM 06. With this badge the defense of your Pokemon will increase. When you are done head west to Route 18. A boy there will trade you a Slowbro for Lickitung. -------Koga---------------- Trainer: Koga Pokemon: Venonat Lv.44 Venonat Lv.46 Venonat Lv.48 Venomoth Lv.50 Prize- Soul Badge - $4950 - TM06 This battle is a whole lot easier than the battle with Sabrina. If you do not the water will pull you back to another part of the cavern. While down here you will also discover Articuno. It can only be found here, so again be sure to save before taking him on. He can be quite difficult to catch so try putting him to sleep to increase your chances of catching him. %%%Cinnibar Island & The Pokemon Mansion%% Pokemon found in Cinnibar Island: # 138 Omanyte # 140 Kabuto # 142 Aerodactyl Treasures found in Cinnibar Island: TM 38 Pokemon found in Pokemon Mansion: # 19 Rattata # 20 Ratticate # 58 Growlithe # 88 Grimer # 89 Muk # 132 Ditto Treasures found in Pokemon Mansion: Calcium Carbos Escape Rope Full Restore Iron Max Potion Moon Stone Rare Candy Secret Key TM 14 TM 22 Cinnibar Island is where research on extinct Pokemon takes place. Here the scientists will bring back to life Aerodactyl and either Omanyte or Kabuto. Just give them the Old Amber and Helix/Dome Fossil to get these Pokemon. The gym here will be locked, and you need to find a key to unlock it so head to the abandoned Pokemon Mansion. As you search the area, you will also learn things about Mewtwo and Mew, two of the strongest and rarest Pokemon in the game. Once you have found the key, head over to the gym. Also there is a hidden Moon Stone on the first floor. Look behind the third block in the right for it. The gym will also be blocked each step of the way. You can either defeat the trainers or go up to the machine and test your knowledge of Pokemon. When you reach the end you will meet Blaine. Defeat him to receive the Volcano Badge and TM 38. With this badge your Pokemon's special attack will increase. Now head north of Cinnibar to Route 21. -------Blaine-------------- Trainer: Blaine Pokemon: Ninetales Lv.48 Rapidash Lv.50 Arcanine Lv.54 Prize- Volcano Badge - $5346 - TM38 This battle is pretty simple. Heck any water Pokemon you have will quickly put out Blaine's flame. You could also throw in some Rock types on your team, considering that Fire is practically ineffective against Rock types. However with the trip to Seafoam Islands you should have enough water Pokemon to easily defeat him. --------------------------- %%%Power Plant%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Treasures found in the Power Plant: Carbos HP Up Rare Candy TM 25 TM 33 Pokemon found in the Power Plant: # 81 Magnemite # 82 Magneton # 88 Grimer # 89 Muk # 100 Voltorb # 145 Zapdos The Power Plant is relatively simple. As you make your way through you will discover that Team Rocket's very own leader is the gym leader. This isn't the toughest battle you will ever face, but be sure to build up your best Pokemon. When you defeat him, you will receive the Earth Badge. With this badge any Pokemon will obey you. Now with all eight badges, prepare yourself for the Pokemon league. -------Giovanni------------ Trainer: Giovanni Pokemon: Dugtrio Lv.50 Persian Lv.53 Nidoqueen Lv.53 Nidoking Lv.55 Rhydon Lv.55 Prize- Earth Badge - $5445 - TM27 For the last gym leader, Giovanni isn't as hard as you think he would be. If you have a Psychic, like everyone else seems to have, you should have very little trouble. However if you don't have any, or didn't raise them high enough, just use the same Pokemon you did for Blaine. Giovanni's Ground type Pokemon are very weak to water, so just use something like Surf over and over. --------------------------- %%%Route 22, 23 and Victory Road%%%%%%%%%% Pokemon found in Route 22: # 19 Rattata # 21 Spearow # 29 Nidoran (F) # 32 Nidoran (M) # 52 Mankey Pokemon found in Victory Road: # 41 Zubat # 42 Golbat # 67 Machoke # 74 Geodude # 75 Graveler # 95 Onix # 146 Moltres Treasures found along Victory Road: Full Heal Guard Spec. As long as you have all the badges, he should not bother you much. As you reach the end of Route 23, you will enter Victory Road. Victory Road is filled with some of the greatest trainers in the world (or so they think). You will need a Pokemon with Strength to get your way through this maze. Also in Victory Road is another legendary bird, Moltres. He's not as great as the other birds, but you should catch him anyways. You should use just about the same tactics you used against the other birds. When you finally exit Victory Road head up to the Indigo Plateau and prepare for your greatest challenge yet. -------Gary---------------- Trainer: Gary Pokemon: Sandslash Lv.47 Exeggcute Lv.45 Ninetales Lv.45 Cloyster Lv.47 Alakazam Lv.50 Vaporeon, Flareon, Jolteon Lv.53 Again your rival comes quite prepared. If you do not have a diverse team you will have some trouble against him. Sandslash, Flareon and Ninetales are easily taken down with a Water Pokemon. Cloyster and Vaporean with Electric Pokemon. Ground for Jolteon, Fire for Exeggcute. The Alakazam may be the toughest one in this. If you have a Jolteon with Pin Missile this guy is pretty easy. But if not I suggest an all out attack. --------------------------- %%%Indigo Plateau%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Entering the building above the Indigo Plateau. This will be the last shop before you take on the Elite Four. Buy a few heals and revives, you are really going to need them. Once you begin the challenge against the Elite Four, you will not be able to go back out. You need to assemble a well-balanced team in order to beat the Elite Four. You will need to counter mainly Ice, Fighting, Ghost, and Dragon type Pokemon. Once you have assembled this team head off to face the first of the Elite Four Lorelei. I suggest Pokemon like Jolteon, Zapdos, Articuno, Alakazam, Dugtrio, Blastoise, or Gyarados. ---Elite Four--- -------Lorelei------------- Trainer: Lorelei Pokemon: Dewgong Lv.54 Cloyster Lv.53 Slowbro Lv.54 Jynx Lv.56 Lapras Lv.56 Prize- $5544 The first member of the Elite Four, Lorelei deals with Ice and Water type Pokemon. So you should have a powerful Electric or Fire Pokemon that can easily defeat them. I suggest having a Jolteon for this battle that is, if you evolved your Eevee into it. If not just use Zapdos. --------------------------- -------Bruno--------------- Trainer: Bruno Pokemon: Onix Lv.53 Hitmonchan Lv.55 Hitmonlee Lv.55 Onix Lv.56 Machamp Lv.58 Prize- $5742 I'm not sure how Bruno got into the Elite Four. He seems to be the easiest member to beat. The two Onix can easily be taken out with a Water type like Cloyster or a Grass type like Venusaur. His fighting types are even easier to take out. If you still have Zapdos from the first battle I would suggest his Drill Peck to totally annihilate Bruno. --------------------------- -------Agatha-------------- Trainer: Agatha Pokemon: Gengar Lv.56 Golbat Lv.56 Haunter Lv.55 Arbok Lv.58 Gengar Lv.60 Prize- $5940 Agatha can be pretty difficult to beat. Her ghosts are immune to physical attacks (which is why I lost the first time around), but with a Pokemon like Alakazam or Zapdos by your side, Agatha will go down pretty easily. Add to the fact that she doesn't fight very well, and you should have an easier time than I did the first time around. --------------------------- -------Lance--------------- Trainer: Lance Pokemon: Gyarados Lv.58 Dragonair Lv.56 Dragonair Lv.56 Aerodactyl Lv.60 Dragonite Lv.62 Prize- $6138 Lance, the Dragon trainer, supposedly have the strongest type of Pokemon in the game. However they aren't exactly the greatest Pokemon in the game. The dragons seem to be very weak to Ice attacks, so if you have a powerful Ice Pokemon on your team with a move like Ice Beam or Blizzard this battle should give you no trouble. Aerodactyl and Gyarados can be beaten with very little effort. --------------------------- If you finally manage to beat all four you will have one more challenge ahead of you, before you become the greatest Pokemon trainer in the world. Gary will be your final challenge. His team will vary depending on what Pokemon he has chosen for himself. -------Gary---------------- Trainer: Gary Pokemon: Set 1 Set 2 Set 3 Sandslash Lv.61 Sandslash Lv.61 Sandslash Lv.61 Alakazam Lv.59 Alakazam Lv.59 Alakazam Lv.59 Exeggutor Lv.61 Exeggutor Lv.61 Exeggutor Lv.61 Cloyster Lv.61 Magneton Lv.61 Ninetales Lv.61 Ninetales Lv.63 Cloyster Lv.63 Magneton Lv.63 Jolteon Lv.65 Flareon Lv.65 Vaporeon Lv.65 Prize- $6435 Gary is probably the hardest trainer you've faced in the entire game. And with good reason, his team is pretty damned balance, and you will need a balanced team yourself to defeat him. The team I suggest above is a pretty good balance, and should let you defeat Gary with very little problems. Also you may have noticed Gary's different lineup. Well it all depends on your action at the beginning of the game. (Check out the Yellow section for the full details.) Anyways you should know which form his Eevee is, giving you a slight advantage over him since you know what his Pokemon will be. --------------------------- Now that you've defeated Gary, pat yourself on the back. You have just become a Pokemon champion. And now one more journey stands between you and becoming a true champion, the Unknown Dungeon. %%%Unknown Dungeon%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Pokemon found in the Unknown Dungeon: # 28 Sandslash # 42 Golbat # 44 Gloom # 47 Parasect # 49 Venomoth # 70 Weepinbell # 75 Graveler # 108 Lickitung # 111 Rhyhorn # 112 Rhydon # 113 Chansey # 132 Ditto # 150 Mewtwo Treasures found in the Unknown Dungeon: Full Restore Max Ether x2 Max Revive x3 Rare Candy x2 Ultra Ball x4 Once the credits finish, you will end up back in Pallet Town. About the only thing that has changed is that on the computer you can now see what team you used to beat the Elite Four and Gary. Something else has also happened though. Head back to Cerulean City. Then head to Route 24. Use Surf near the water and follow the water until you find a cave. Enter the cave. *Note that if you did not beat the Elite Four and Gary you will not be able to enter the cave. In this cave live some of the strongest Pokemon you have ever seen. But if you managed to make it to the very bottom of the cave you will meet Mewtwo. He is the strongest Pokemon that has ever lived. If you still have the Master Ball use it on him. If you do not you are going to have a tough time defeating him. To catch him just use the same strategies you used against the birds and you should catch him in no time. Congrats, you've just conquered the game. Now all you have to do is either fill your Pokedex or wait for the sequel. ****************************************** IV. Pikachu & the Yellow Version ****************************************** Well if you notice there are quite a few things different in the Yellow version. That is because Yellow is loosely based on the Anime show Pokemon. They include things such as: - Different title intro. - You now start off with Pikachu and follow you around. - Many new and improved pictures for Pokemon and trainers. - You now see Jessie and James from the Anime. - Other characters include Gizelle from the Tech School - And AJ who had the 100 win streak - You can get Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle in Yellow. - Codes & glitches don't seem to work in Yellow. (or they are different) - Pokemon learn different TMs and HMs. - Pokemon learn skills at different levels. And quite a few more. Plus Pikachu has been upgraded in this game. He is one of your more powerful Pokemon. He follows you around instead of staying in his Poke Ball. If you talk to him you can see his current facial expression (sad, happy, etc.) To make him happy (which you will need to do to get Bulbasaur and do various other things) is by putting him first in battle, not letting him die, not trying to evolve, trade, putting him in the computer. Also you can evolve Pikachu, the way to do this is to first trade him to someone else's Red and Blue game, than evolve him in their game. Now trade the now evolved Pikachu back to your game, and you will have a Raichu. (Note- if you do this you will not be able to play the mini-surfing game with Pikachu, nor will you be able to do other things that involve your Pikachu like getting Bulbasaur) Plus you may have heard that Pikachu can surf. Well that is true, but to get it you must win some tournament from Nintendo or use him in Pokemon Stadium and get Surf as a prize for him. The Surf ability is actually a mini-game, and as soon as I can get it I will have more info on it. Another difference you may have seen in the game is the added feature of Colosseum 2. If you've been to any of the Pokemon League training tours you will know what all these are about, if not basically there are 3 cups, Poke, Pika, and Petit Cup, each with special rules and stipulations. However you can only use this cup if you are fighting against someone with another Yellow cart. One of the major differences in Yellow is with your rival. He has an Eevee which evolves depending on two major events at the beginning of the game. He will evolve Eevee into: Jolteon- If you win the battle against him in Professor Oak's lab, and beat him on Route 22, near the Pokemon League. (This is done early in the game) Vaporeon- If you lose to him at Professor Oak's lab. Flareon- If you beat him at Oak's lab, but lose to him at Route 22. (It's considered a loss if you do not fight him there.) ****************************************** V.
