Hello, i hope you enjoyed your 10 year nap. Pokemon is an extremly popular series of games in where you train cute, and not so cute pokemon, trade them, and fight them with other trainers. Currently there are 3 games on gameboy, Red, Blue, and yellow. Others will follow soon, there is also a TV Show, 3 N64 games, and various other merchandise. You have probably seen pokemon SOMEWHERE before, if you haven't, get a life. How do i catch pokemon? You can get new pokemon in many different ways. You can trade with a friend using a game link cable, you can trade with in-game characters as well. However, the most common way to catch pokemon is to find them in the wild and catch them. To catch them you will need: At least one pokemon At least one pokeball, great ball, ultra ball, or master ball. Once you have those two things, look around in the tall grass, once a pokemon comes up, you must do a few things to catch it. First off, pokemon that are paralyzed, sleeping, and\or weakened are MUCH easier to catch, also it is easier to catch a pokemon if you have a better ball to catch it with. You will want to weaken the opposing pokemon to about 1/4 it's health, then go to the item menu, select pokeball, and press Down+B(this makes it easier to catch the pokemon usally). Now you will either catch the pokemon, or it will escape. after much practice, this becomes very easy. How do my pokemon learn new moves? At different levels, pokemon learn new, more powerful moves. Some pokemon learn their moves quicker than others, so much training is neccesary befoer you pokemon learn their best moves. How do i make my pokemon stronger? If you've ever played RPGs before, than you will have no problem understanding how to strenthen your pokemon. The higher a pokemon's level is, the more powerful. The more experience points you get, the higher your pokemon's level will be. You can also use certain items to make your pokemon stronger. Check out the 'raising weak pokemon' strategy in the walkthrough. ======================================================================= 2) Info ======================================================================= So What Is So Different About Pokemon Yellow? Well, there are a few differences that i am aware of currently, they include: Pokemon evolve quicker, and are found earlier. Pikachu follows you around, and you can talk to him! (sorta) Trainers have different pokemon (E.G. Gary starts off with Eevee) The game follows the TV show storyline somewhat, Jessie And James are in the game with their signature Pokemon. Pokedex pictures redone, look better. Pokedex entries changed. All pokemon that were in Red\blue can now be found in yellow. (Except for a few) Pokemon Learn new moves ======================================================================= 3) F.A.Q. ======================================================================= Q. How many masterballs are there? A. One, as usual, use it on a one-time pokemon, i suggest Mewtwo. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Q. Throughout the walkthrough i will outline SEVERAL strategies, i suggest you follow them. Oh and don't complain about the crappy artwork. C O L L E C T I N G T H E B O U L D E R B A D G E *********************************************** COLLECTING THE BOULDER BADGE *********************************************** C O L L E C T I N G T H E B O U L D E R B A D G E *********************************************************************** ************************** PALLET TOWN ******************************** *********************************************************************** Pokemon: Eevee, Pikachu(catch) ------------------------------ Items to find: Potion --------------------- Allright, here we go. First go to the computer and withdraw the "Potion", you'll need it soon. Now exit your house and go north, attempting to walk into the tall grass. Dr. Oak will stop you, and take you to his lab. Here you will meet your rival, Gary. Gary will knock you out of the way when you try and get Eeeve, and run off, so...Oak gives you your very own(and only) Pikachu! Now walk out of the house, Gary will stop you and fight you. ********************************************************************** TRAINER: Gary This is an easy fight, he uses Eevee, you use Pikachu. Just keep using thundershock until Eevee faints. If your HP gets low, use the Potion you withdrew from the computer. You will win $175, and Pikachu will grow to Lv. 6 Pokemon: Eeeve. ********************************************************************** Now return to your house, and talk to your mom, she will give you both a rest for free (How nice...) Now exit your house and head north to the grassy area. *********************************************************************** ****************************** ROUTE ONE ****************************** *********************************************************************** Pokemon: Pidgey(catch), Rattata(catch) -------------------------------------- Items to find: Potion --------------------- Enter the grassy area north of pallet, and walk until you see someone. Talk to him, and get a potion. Train pikachu against the various pidgeys using thundershock, and when you either run out of PP or your health gets low, head north to the PC. When Pikachu is around level 10, head to Viridian. *********************************************************************** **************************** VIRIDAN CITY ***************************** *********************************************************************** Pokemon: None ------------- Items to find: Potion, Oak's Parcel ----------------------------------- Nothing to do here yet, go to the Pokemart, get the parcel, and head back to Pallet Town. There is a potion next to a tree, that is hidden to the left of it. *********************************************************************** ***************************** PALLET TOWN ***************************** *********************************************************************** Pokemon: None ------------- Items to find: Pokedex, Town Map -------------------------------- Return to Oak's lab, and give him the package, he will then give you and Gary his invention, the Pokedex, which holds information on pokemon you've seen\caught. After that, go to Gary's house, and talk to his sister for a Town Map. Fight some more until pikachu is at level 12, then head north to Viridan. *********************************************************************** ***************************** VIRIDAN CITY **************************** *********************************************************************** Pokemon: None ------------- Items to find: Pokeball ----------------------- First, go to the Pokemart, and buy about 10 Pokeballs. Then, go to the Pokecenter, and heal your pokemon. Now go south to Route One again, and catch a Pidgey and a Rattata. Then return to Viridan, and head west to route 22. *********************************************************************** ******************************* ROUTE 22 ****************************** *********************************************************************** Pokemon: Rattata, NidoranM(catch), NidoranF(catch), Mankey(catch) ----------------------------------------------------------------- Items to find: None ------------------- Only catch the 2 nidoran if you want to 'catch em' all', that goes with all the other pokemon, unless noted. Be sure to catch a manky. Train it until he learns low kick, then go west and Gary will challenge you. ********************************************************************** TRAINER: Gary Bring out pikachu against spearow and T-wave it. Then t-shock until it dies. Switch to Manky now and low kick eevee to his grave. Simple! Pokemon: Spearow, Eevee ********************************************************************** Your team should now consist of: Pikachu Lv. 13+ (Quick Attack, ThunderShock, Thunderwave, Growl) Mankey Lv. 13+ (Scratch, Leer, Low Kick) Any other pokemon you may have caught should be placed in the PC. *********************************************************************** ****************************** ROUTE TWO ****************************** *********************************************************************** Pokemon: Pidgey, Rattata, NidoranM, NidoranF -------------------------------------------- Items to find: None ------------------- Train for a few moments if you wish to, otherwise, continue to Viridan Forest. *********************************************************************** **************************** VIRIDAN FOREST *************************** *********************************************************************** Pokemon: Pidgeotto(catch), Pidgey, Caterpie(catch), Metapod(catch) ------------------------------------------------------------------ Items to find: Potion, Pokeball, Antidote ----------------------------------------- Here you will first fight bug catchers, which are trainers. They are very easy to beat, and this isn't exactally a maze either, get the 3 easy to get items, and grab a Pidgeotto, Caterpie, and Metapod. If by now you are wondering how to raise your weak pokemon i will tell you, only once, so pay attention. By moving your weakest pokemon to the top of the list, he becomes the first one to fight in battle, instead of making it fight, switch to a stonger pokemon, and when\if you win, the two pokemon will split the EXP. This works extremly well with the very weak Metapod, who evolves into butterfree at level 10, and Magikarp. Beat the 3 trainers, gain levels for Pika and mankey, and if you want, raise a butterfree. Then head to pewter. *********************************************************************** ***************************** PEWTER CITY ***************************** *********************************************************************** Pokemon: Pidgey, Rattata ------------------------ Items to find: Boulder Badge, TM - Bide --------------------------------------- Heal your pokemon at the PC, buy a few more pokeballs, and sell any un-needed items you may have. Deposit all pokemon besides Pikachu, Mankey, Butterfree and head to the local gym. Fight the worthless Jr. Trainer, using Mankey's low kick or butterfree's confusion, then talk to brock. *********************************************************************** Gym Leader: Brock Boulder Badge Simply use Mankey's low kick to wipe them both out. If onix uses bide, use leer, and his attack will do 0 damage. By the time your done with brock, your team should be at 15+, for all members. Pokemon: Geodude, Onix *********************************************************************** Brock will then fork over the boulder badge, which allows you to control higher-leveled pokemon, raises the power of your pokemon, get's you 1/8 closer to the elite four, and it also does the laundry...ooooohh. Also, brock hands over the TM - Bide. It's pretty useless, except for in-game use. Since this is an in-game strategy guide, save it for later. C O L L E C T I N G T H E C A S C A D E B A D G E ************************************************ COLLECTING THE CASCADE BADGE ************************************************ C O L L E C T I N G T H E C A S C A D E B A D G E Now that Brock is defeated, you can go east of pewter city, finding a trail leading to a large mountain... *********************************************************************** ******************************* ROUTE 3 ******************************* *********************************************************************** Pokemon: Mankey, Sandshrew(catch), Spearow(catch), Magikarp(buy), Rattata. Items to find: None ------------------- Here you will find your first test of patience and skill. You will fight 8 or so trainers in this area. If you have built a strong team so far, you should be able to get through all 8 trainers without needing to return to a Pokecenter. This is a good area to build up Pikachu, i suggest you train him to level 16-20 before your finished. Be sure to get the new pokemon here as well. Also, there is a man that will sell you Magikarp for $500 inside a Pokecenter. Buy it! Put it at the top of your list and use the training weak pokemon strategy. At level 20 it evolves into Gyarados, a powerful water pokemon. At the end is the entrance to Mt. Moon. Right now your pokemon team should consist of at least: Pikachu(18+), Magikarp(10+), Sandshrew(10+) and Mankey(18+). Soon you will begin building your main team of Pokemon! *********************************************************************** ****************************** MOUNT MOON ***************************** *********************************************************************** Pokemon: Zubat(catch), Sandshrew, Geodude(catch), Clefairy(catch) ----------------------------------------------------------------- Items to find: Moon Stone, Escape Rope, Potion x2, HP Up, Rare Candy, TM - Water Gun, TM - Megapunch, Fossil x2. Navigating this Cave isn't that hard, ignore the first two stairways, at the end is a dead-end and a stairway, go down it, then you can easily navigate through the rest of the cave. Make sure to pick up the items along the way, collect all the new pokemon, AND fight the trainers. At the end you have your choice of two fossils, I usually go for the dome one. You will then fight Team Rocket for the first time... ********************************************************************** TRAINER: Jesse & James These guys use their signature pokemon, and aren't that hard at all. Use Pikachu on Ekans for an easy KO. For meowth, Mankey's Low Kick for a one-hit KO. And for Koffing use Pikachu again...This is an easy fight, as most of them will be. Pokemon: Ekans, Meowth, Koffing. ********************************************************************* Also note that you will fight TONS of wild zubats, this is as good a chance you'll ever get to train Pikachu easily. His thundershocks kill zubats in one hit. Also remember to train the weak Magikarp. After you exit, continue west to Cerulean... *********************************************************************** ****************************** ROUTE 4 ******************************** *********************************************************************** Pokemon: Rattata, Pidgey, Spearow. Items to find: TM - Whirlwind. Route 4 has nothing new to offer, there are just a few crappy pokemon here, which you allready have. There is a TM Whirlwind which you can equip to a bird pokemon, however, whirlwind itself stinks, so you should only pick it up to sell it later. At the end of route 4 is Cerulean City! *********************** CERULEAN CITY *********************** Pokemon: None. Items to find: Rare Candy, Cascade Badge, TM - Bubblebeam. First heal your pokemon, then go to the backyard of the man that tells you about the badges. You can get a rare candy back there, it's in the center of the yard. Give this to pikachu! Speaking of pikachu, he should be at Level 20 by now, if so, stop at there for now. Otherwise, train him to level 20. Also, your magikarp should be at level 10 at the LEAST! You can either go into the gym here, or go north to nugget bridge. Head north to nugget bridge. Before getting to the bridge you will fight gary. ********************************************************************* TRAINER: GARY This is simple! Use pikachu's thundershock for a 1 or 2 hit KO. on spearow. Use mankey on sandshrew, use low kick. For rattata, and Eevee, Nidorina, Nidorino will take them out in one hit (use double-kick). Gary will then run off, giving you access to Nugget Bridge. Pokemon: Spearow, Sandshrew, Rattata, Eevee. ********************************************************************** *********************** NUGGET BRIDGE *********************** Pokemon: None. Items to find: Nugget. This is a good place to build up Magikarp if you haven't allready. By the time you are done with the 5 trainers and the rocket guard at the end you should have a level 17-19 Magikarp. Stop training it at level 20, which oddly enough, is when it evolves into Gyarados! Anyway, at the end is a person who will give you Charmander. Then continue east to routes 24 and 25. ************************** ROUTES 24 AND 25 ************************** Pokemon: Pidgey, Oddish. Items to find: TM - Seismic Toss, S.S. Anne Ticket. This is just like other routes, with about 15 trainers. Just fight them all, when you get to the end you should DEFINETLY have a Level 20 Gyarados, Pikachu. If not, you haven't been fighting at all! Enter bill the pokemaniacs house above you. You will find he has been turned into a pokemon, talk to him, and help him out by using the PC when he tells you to. Then he will give you the S.S. Ticket, exit, the re-enter, and look at the 4 pokemon on his computer to add a few pages to your pokedex! Then return to cerulean. Now enter the gym, fight the 2 mini-trainers. Then talk to Misty. ********************************************************************** GYM-LEADER: Misty TM - Bubblebeam This is easy, just use your level 20 Pikachu to take misty out before she can use bubblebeam on you! Such a short strategy for the second leader...oh well! Pokemon: Staryu, Starmie. ********************************************************************** She will then give you the Cascade Badge, you can now control Level 30 Pokemon, and use Cut outside of battle. She will also give you the TM - Bubblebeam. Save this for later. Then go through the house the guard was once blocking. C O L L E C T I N G T H E T H U N D E R B A D G E ************************************************ COLLECTING THE THUNDER BADGE ************************************************ C O L L E C T I N G T H E T H U N D E R B A D G E Exit the house, and fight the rocket guard, he will retreat and drop the TM - dig when you defeat him. Then continue southeast until you reach the Pokemon Daycare Center. Put your Level 11 Geodude in here for now...then enter the underground path to route 6. ***************** ROUTE 6 ***************** Pokemon: Abra, Pidgey, Rattata, Jigglypuff. Items to find: There are 5 or 6 trainers that you should fight here, a guard house, and lots of grass, just keep going south until you reach... ************************ VERMILION CITY ************************ Pokemon: None. Items to find: Bike Voucher, Old rod. Get the old rod from the fishing dude, the bike voucher from the pokemon fan club president, heal your pokemon, buy items at the pokemart if you wish, then head back to cerulean city. *********************** CERULEAN CITY *********************** Pokemon: None. Items to find: Bicycle. Go to the bike shop, and get the free bicycle. This makes traveling on land MUCH faster, and makes the game much less boring because you don't have to walk around. Using the bicycle counts as steps for the daycare center also! Head back to route 5... ***************** ROUTE 5 ***************** Pokemon: None. Items to find: Go to the daycare center, and get geodude back, depending on how much you walked, he should be around level 15 or higher. Put Abra in here for now, you'll come back much later for him. Then head back to vermilion, go east, and down the dock to the S.S. Anne. Show the guard the ticket, and hop aboard! ******************* S.S. Anne ******************* Pokemon: None. Items to find: HM - Cut, TM - Body Slam, TM - Rest, Great Ball, Max Ether, Ether, Rare Candy. By now, your team should consist of Gyarados(Lv. 20), Pikachu(Lv. 20), Geodude(Lv. 15). Pikachu should have Thundershock\bolt, Slam, Bide, Thunderwave. And geodude should have the tm DIG. Now is a great time to build all 3 of their levels equally. Make sure you don't go any higher than 30 however. By the time you exit the ship, you should have Pikachu AND Gyarados at level 24+, and geodude at level 19+. Now, to the walkthrough. There are plenty of trainers here, easy enough, also in the various rooms you can find easy to get items, the only hidden item is the great ball, which is in a trash can in the kitchen. Getting to the end of the ship isn't hard, before you can make it to the final staircase, Gary will come along... ********************************************************************** TRAINER: Gary This is a fairly easy fight, hopefully your pokemon are all healthy. If not, you may want to return to a pokecenter before this fight. Spearow and pidgey will easily go down in one hit from a thundershock\bolt from pikachu IF it is at level 24+ like i told you to do. Rattata goes down quickly with pikachu's "Slam" attack, or DIG from geodude. either works well. For Eevee, use any normal attack from a high-level pokemon. E.G. Pikachu's Slam. Pokemon: Spearow, Rattata, Pidgey, Eevee ********************************************************************** Go through the staircase, talk to the captain, and he will give you the HM - CUT. Which can cut down small trees. Equip this to Oddish. Then exit the ship, watch it steam away, and return to vermillion. Your Main Pokemon team should now consist of: Oddish(Lv. 10), Gyarados(Lv. 24+ - Body Slam, Bite, Tackle, Splash), Pikachu(Lv. 24+ - Thunderbolt, Slam, Thunderwave, Bide), Geodude(Lv. 19+ - Dig, Tackle, Rock Throw, Defense Curl). ************************ VERMILION CITY ************************ Pokemon: None. Items to find: Cascade Badge, TM - Thunderbolt. Cut down the tree, and enter the gym. Put Geodude at the top of your pokemon list. You will fight 3 trainers in here, you can either use Pikachu's slam move, or geodude's Dig. However, pikachu should be at level 30 right now, and geodude should be at level 19 or so. So use geodude to boost his EXP. a bit. After that you will need to solve a mini-puzzle. Keep searching through the trash cans until you find a switch, then search the trash can to the LEFT of that to find the 2nd switch. Now the doors will open, walk up, and talk to LT. Surge ******************************************************************** GYM-LEADER: Lt. Surge. TM - Thunderbolt How dissapointing...you must have been hoping for a hard fight. Well, too bad, Lt. Surge has ONE Lv. 28 Raichu for you to defeat. Just use geodude, he won't even get scratched by Raichu's electric moves. Oh well, at least the next gym is moderatly hard. Pokemon: Raichu ******************************************************************** After his defeat, Lt. Surge will fork over the Thunder Badge, which makes your pokemon faster, and lets you use fly anytime you wish. Also, he will give you the tm - thunderbolt. Pikachu should allready have this, so store it away for now! Then go the the pokecenter in Vermilion... C O L L E C T I N G T H E R A I N B O W B A D G E ************************************************* COLLECTING THE RAINBOW BADGE ************************************************* C O L L E C T I N G T H E R A I N B O W B A D G E Heal your main team of pokemon at the pokecenter. Speaking of your main team, it should now be: Pikachu(Lv. 30) Gyarados(Lv. 25), Geodude(Lv.20), Oddish(Lv. 10), And and abra in the daycare center...anyway, go to the middle of town, talk to officer jenny, and you'll get the newest(and permanant) member of your team, Squirtle! He starts at Lv. 10, so you'll need to train him hard. Also, you can get your very own bulbasaur! Go to cerulean, and into the house with the injured pokemon, talk to the girl, and you get a bulbasaur! You should now have a 6-member team. Now head back, any way you wish, to Viridan Forest. ************************ VIRIDAN FOREST ************************ Pokemon: None. Items to find: Moon Stone, HP UP, HM - Flash. Using the cut ability, you will be able to get on the other site of the forest, there is a building here, inside is DR. Oak's Aide, if you've caught 10 or more pokemon (You should have at least 26), he will give you the HM - Flash. There are others items scattered around if you want them, then head back to Cerulean. ************************ CERULEAN CITY ************************ Pokemon: None. Items to find: Cut down the tree on the east side of the city, which leads to.... ***************** ROUTE 9 ***************** Pokemon: Nidoran(M), Nidoran(F), Spearow, Magenmite. Items to find: TM - Teleport. Route 9 has about 8 trainers, fight them all, using Gyarados if possible. There is also the TM Teleport here, but it sucks. Pick it up for later...you can sell it for some easy cash. At the end is a pokecenter, one more trainer, and the entrace to Rock Tunnel. Fight the trainer, heal your pokemon, and enter Rock Tunnel. Also note that BOTH Pikachu and Gyarados should be at Lv. 30 even. ********************* ROCK TUNNEL ********************* Pokemon: Zubat, Machop, Geodude, Onix. Items to find: This is just a extra-long versin of mount moon basically. A few trainers here and there, and some good rock pokemon as well. Your newly caught squirtle and it's Bubblebeam TM will clean up this place in a hurry, speaking of squirtle, i usally have him at level 22 by the end of rock tunnel. At the end is another route... ****************** ROUTE 10 ****************** Pokemon: None. Items to find: Max Ether. There are 5 trainers, and a Max Ether hidden in the bush to the right, other than that, this place is just a small area with a pokecenter. Heal your pokemon, fight the flukes, and head south to Lavender Town. *********************** LAVENDER TOWN *********************** Pokemon: None Items to find: Could this town BE any smaller? Take the west route from here, again, the WEST route. Don't even ask what is south... ***************** ROUTE 8 ***************** Pokemon: Pidgey, Pidgeotto, Abra. Items to find: Here is a good chance to get Pidgeotto. Why? Because pidgey sucks, and you'll probably not train him at all. You can pick up an abra here if you didn't get one earlier as well. There are also a few trainers, so keep leveling up Squirtle. At the end is a guardhouse, and an underground path. Take the underground path to wind up at.... ***************** ROUTE 7 ***************** Pokemon: Rattata, Pidgeotto, Pidgey. Items to find: Either you go to the next city or through a guardhouse...take the city route, obviously. ********************** CELADON CITY ********************** Pokemon: Eevee, Jolteon. Items to find: TM - Tri Attack, TM - Rock Slide, TM - Ice Beam, Fresh Water, Coin Case, Rainbow Badge, TM - Counter, TM - Mega Drain. (Note: Game Corner Pokemon\Items will be in a seperate section to come later in this FAQ) Welcome to Celadon City! This is the biggest(not to mention one of the coolest) city in the entire game! There are 4 main areas to Celadon; Game Corner, Exchange Corner, Pokemart(6 levels), and Game Freaks INC. First go around to the BACK entrance of Game Freaks. Up a few flights of stairs, and into some classroom. There is a pokeball just laying there on the table, get it, inside is Eevee! This is a unique pokemon, and can be evolved into Jolteon, Vaporeon, or Flareon. Eevee starts at level 25, and will soon, and temporarily replace Pikachu. Time to say by-by pikachu, unless you are some pika-lover. However, i HIGHLY suggest you train eevee to level 30, then evolve him into Jolteon... Now let's talk about the Pokemart, the biggest store in the game, period. You can buy virtually anything and everything here. However, all you will want to do is buy One Thunder Stone, and go tot he VERY top floor. Buy one each of the 3 drinks from the vending machine and give them all to the thirsty girl there. In return you get 3 different TMs! Ice Beam, Tri Attack, And Rock Slide. The best one would be Rock Slide, which should be IMMEDIATLY be equipped to Geodude\Graveler. Graveler should now have Dig, Rock Slide, Rock Throw, Tackle. Ice beam is also a average ice attack, the other one sucks, but you might use it anyway. Get one additional fresh water, you'll be needing this soon. Now you can go over to Game Corner! This place is a slot machine playing house. There are coins laying on the floor, and people will give them to you. You can also buy coins in the back. This is all optional of course, and requires skill, and a coin case, which can be found in a resturaunt to the south. If you get the big score you can exchange your coins at the Exchange Corner next door. Now, heal your pokemon, and enter the Gym. There are SEVERAL OPTIONAL trainers you can fight here, and i suggest you take the time to beat each one IF your gyarados is below level 30, if not, skip as many as you can. Eventually, you will meet Erika, the Gym Leader. ********************************************************************* GYM-LEADER: Erika TM - Megadrain There are a few ways you can attack this GYM-LEADER, so depending on what you did, here are your options: You followed my advice, and pumped up gyarados to level 30, and use Bite to destroy her pathetic team in a few turns. You didn't follow my advice, but you DID get Charmander, and use his high-level fire attacks to burn her pokemon to ashes. You didn't do any of the above, but did get a fire-type pokemon, and trained it so you can beat erika. You did none of this, and you A) Die, B) Run off to get new pokemon. Isn't it nice to see a long walkthrough for a Gym Leader for a change? Pokemon: N\A ********************************************************************* She will then fork over the Rainbow Badge, which allows you to control Lv. 50 pokemon! Time to level up those little monsters...You will also get the TM Megadrain, give this to a plant pokemon. Your Main Pokemon Team should be: 1) Graveler Lv. 30 Dig, Rock Slide, A, B 2) Gyarados Lv. 30 Body Slam, Bite, A, B 3) Jolteon Lv. 28 A, B, C, D 4) Wartortle Lv. 30 Bubblebeam, Ice Beam, Bubble, Water Gun. 5) Oddish Lv. 10 (Just for cut, Oddish sucks!) Easy enough, yes? Go to the pokecenter, heal your pokemon, buy a few ultra balls to catch new pokemon, and head to Rocket Game Corner! C O L L E C T I N G T H E M A R S H B A D G E ********************************************* COLLECTING THE MARSH BADGE ********************************************* C O L L E C T I N G T H E M A R S H B A D G E Remember rocket game corner? Go to the back wall, and talk to the rocket next to the poster, he will fight you, you will win. Hit the poster to find a switch, press it, then walk right to enter Rocket Game Corner Basement! ************************************* ROCKET GAME CORNER BASEMENT ************************************* Pokemon: Items to find: Lift Key, Escape Rope, TM - Razor Wind, HP UP, Rare Candy, TM - Double Edge, Moon Stone, Nugget, Iron, Silph Scope. There is a TON of stuff to do and find here, first of all, let's talk about the items. There are tons of them, as you can see, i would get as many as possible, they aren't exactly hard to find. The TMs here aren't that big of a deal, but get them anyway. Now onto the walkthrough. There are about 30 different rocket guards\trainers here, and this is a great place to get EXP for Gyarados\Wartortle\Jolteon. Anyway, go down the stairs to your immediate right, fight the rocket guard, and take the stairs to the north. Go left to find some moving tile platforms...so easy i need not explain. Then go up the stairs, north, the west to fight another rocket guard. He will drop the lift key. Go back to the first rocket guard, and go left to find more moving platforms. At the end is the elevator, set it to B4F. As you exit the elevator, you will be greeted by Jessie And James ********************************************************************** TRAINER: JESSE & JAMES Could this be any easier? Jolteon will take care of Koffing in one Thunderbolt. For meowth, use Graveler and dig to send kitty flying. And for Ekans, just use Thunderbolt, courtesy of Jolteon. I told you Jolteon was good! I hope you listened... Pokemon: Koffing, Meowth, Ekans. ********************************************************************** Head west, get the Iron, give it to one fo your pokemon, then go back north to find an extremly disturbed individual named: ********************************************************************** TRAINER: GIOVANNI Wondering when Wartortle would be of some assitance? Ask no longer, use bubblebeam on the first two. Then use Graveler on the third. Pretty easy if you ask me, that is, if you trained your pokemon. Pokemon: Onix, Ryhorn, Persian. ********************************************************************** He will drop the Silph Scope, which allows you to see ghosts in pokemon tower, and runs off. Since you now have the silph scope, it would be a good time to head back to lavender town. *********************** LAVENDER TOWN *********************** Pokemon: Items to find: See the nice, shiny tower? Uhh yah...go in. *********************** POKEMON TOWER *********************** Pokemon: Gastly, Haunter, Marowak. Items to find: Elixer, Awakening, Rare Candy, Escape Rope, Nugget, HP Up, X Accuracy, Poke Flute. This is a simple, straightforward level, so i won't bother writing up a walkthrough. You will fight Gary and Jesse\James here. They are so pathetically easy i won't even bother writing a strategy. Although i will say Jolteon will kill everyone easily. He should be near Level 35, anyway, at the end is Mr. Fuji. Follow him home, and you'll get the Pokeflute. Before you leave, catch Gastly\Haunter. By the time you leave you should have Haunter one way or the other...Now you can take the south route from Lavender...Not yet though! ;) Head to Saffron. ********************** SAFFRON CITY ********************** Pokemon: Hitmonlee *OR* Hitmonchan. Items to find: Enter the fighting dojo, fight the 4 pushovers, then talk to the Karate Master. ********************************************************************* GYM-LEADER: Black Belt Hitmonlee *OR* Hitmonchan. Ok, here is the walkthrough for this HARD gym-leader. Gyarados, Wartortle, Haunter can kill both of them easily. Hard isn't it? Pokemon: Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan. ********************************************************************* After you win, he will let you have one of his prized fightin pokemon. Whichever one you pick, it is the best of it's type. I suggest Hitmonchan, since it can learn Ice Punch, Fire Punch, Thunder Punch, Mega Punch. (4 different types of attack? Sweet...) It's up to you though... Head to SILPH CO..... **************************** SILPH HEADQUARTERS **************************** Pokemon: Lapras. Items to find: TM - Sword's Dance, TM - Take Down, TM - Self Destruct, Hyper Potion, Max Revive, Full Heal, Escape Rope, HP Up, X Accuracy, Calcium, Protein, Card Key, Master Ball. As you can see this place is huge. Just explore EVERYWHERE. I suggest 45 minutes or so, that's about how long it took me to find everything. After all of this, you may be wondering... "When does this end and how do i get the card key?" Well, here's a not so hard to follow walkthrough: Up the first 4 flights of stairs, then left, you'll see a scientist and some trees if you are in the right area, head south, step on the warp tile, then back on the warp tile you just used, you can now go south 1 square of the warp tile. Fight the pathetic rocket guard...then go east, to find the card key! Find and elevator, set it to 3F, the go east, south, and west through the card key "door". Step on the warp tile and you've run into..... ********************************************************************** TRAINER: GARY For sandslash, a dig or two from graveler will work. Wartortle will also take care of it. A rock pokemon can quickly take care of NineTales. As for Cloyster, and Kadabra your EXTREMLY powerful Jolteon will take care of them in three Thunderbolts. (1 for cloyster, 2 for Kadabra) And then there is Jolteon, yes HE has one now! Unfortunate for you, yes? Actually, no. Wondering why you have Graveler in your party? Wonder no longer... Pokemon: Sandslash, Ninetales, Cloyster, Kadabra, Jolteon. ********************************************************************** After you defeat him, talk to the guy next to him to get your very own Lapras free of charge! He comes at a high level, and if you train him medium-hard, becomes a VERY powerful water pokemon. But you allready have Wartortle....oh well. Step on the warp tile, then head south, and you'll be confronted once again by... ********************************************************************** TRAINER: JESSE & JAMES Isn't it sad how each fight with this idiots gets easier and easier? Anyway, one Thunderbolt for Weezing, one Thunderbolt for Arbok, and one Thunderbolt for Meowth. Aren't you glad i told you to get Jolteon? Pokemon: Weezing, Arbok, Meowth. ********************************************************************** They will whine about how much they suck, "Blast off at the speed of light", and now you can go south, then east, and north to fight yet ANOTHER main trainer. I guess since all 3 are easy they needed 3 trainers in one area, oh well. Bet you can't guess who it is.... ********************************************************************** TRAINER: GIOVANNI I hate to make this so short and pathetic, like the fight with Giovanni, but that's the way it is i guess. A single thunderbolt kills Nidorino, and Persian. Wartortle can whoop Rhyhorn's butt, and for variety, you can use Pin Missle Via Jolteon to take care of Nidoqueen in 2-3 turns. Too easy... Pokemon: Nidorino, Persian, Rhyhorn, Nidoqueen. ********************************************************************** Walk up and talk to the president, he will give you the Sacred Master Ball! Deposit this is the PC so it doesn't tempt you...then head back to Saffron. ********************** SAFFRON CITY ********************** Pokemon: Items to find: Pokedoll, TM - Mimic, TM - Psycic, Marsh Badge, TM - Psywave. First grab a pokedoll, then give it to the girl in the house that one rocket guard was blocking. She will give you TM 31 - Mimic. Also you can get the all-powerful TM Psycic from the...Psycic... Now that Team Rocket has fled, you can enter the gym and gain LOADS of Exp. from the fighters, which is a good idea. However, if you want to find the leader, here are the correct tiles to step on. Step on the first one you see...then the one in the lower left corner, then the one to the very right of you, then finally the one in the lower left corner. You will now meet Sabrina. (Original names they come up with...) ********************************************************************** GYM-LEADER: Sabrina TM - Psywave This battle CAN be annoying and hard. Abra is no problem, ONE Thunderbolt from Jolteon will kill it, sadly. 3 Thunderbolts will kill Kadabra, and he doesn't damage you much usally, as a matter of fact, it only attacks once (you get the first turn,Sabrina uses X defend, you use thunderbolt again, it atttacks, you kill it) Get it? Now she brings out her All-Star Alakazam! This is VER FRUSTRATING! 3 Thunderbolts WILL kill it, however you MIGHT run out of health before you get off 3 of those, AND it uses Recover a lot usally, which is very bad unless you can do more damage with a thunderbolt than it can recover. This will test your patience as a trainer and will also tell you how good you are at leveling your pokemon. Pokemon: Abra, Kadabra, Alakazam. Marsh Badge ********************************************************************** After the LONG fight, you get the TM - Psywave, which is unrealisticly powerful. You also get the Marsh Badge! Yay! You can also now control level 70 Pokemon, which is great, because your Team should now be: 1) Jolteon Lv. 50 Thunderbolt, Pin Missle, Agility, Double Kick. 2) Wartortle Lv. 35 Bubblebeam, Skull Bash, Ice Beam, Water Gun 3) Graveler Lv. 35 Rock Slide, Dig, Rock Throw, Tackle. 4) Gyarados Lv. 35 Bite, Body Slam, Tackle, Your Choice. 5) Gloom Lv. 21 Sleep Powder, Stun Spore, Cut, Poison Powder.* *You really only need a level 10 Oddish with Cut and sleep powder, but i usally have Gloom anyway! Now head to Lavender Town! C O L L E C T I N G T H E S O U L B A D G E ******************************************** COLLECTING THE SOUL BADGE ******************************************** C O L L E C T I N G T H E S O U L B A D G E Remember that tempting southern route from lavender town? ****************** ROUTE 12 ****************** Pokemon: Snorlax, Water Pokemon. Items to find: Good rod, TM - Payday. Get the 2 items, and keep moving along until you reach a sleeping snorlax. Wear it down to nothing, put it to sleep, and throw and Ultra Ball! (Use gloom to put snorlax to sleep, and Jolteon because his speed should be near 100) ****************************** ROUTES 13, 14 AND 15 ****************************** Pokemon: Items to find: TM - Rage, Calcium, EXP. All. Here you will fight about 2 trainers, and i am not joking! Your Jolteon SHOULD be at level 50 by now, so put him at the bottom of your list and start training Wartortle\Graveler\Gyarados. Forget training gloom, unless you want to! By the time you are done those 3 Pokemon should have gained 5-7 levels EACH. so keep on training! Eventually you will reach Fuchsia. ******************************* ROUTES 16, 17, AND 18 ******************************* Pokemon: Items to find: HM - Fly. Or...you can go THIS way to fuchsia. The HM - Fly is here, but you should allready have grabbed that up, teach that to some pathetic level 2 pidgey you caught much earlier! In case you were wondering, this is cycling road, and you need the bicycle here. There are about 15 Poison-type trainers here, so train Graveler a bit more, upping his levels by two or three. Eventually, you'll reach fuchsia. ********************** FUCHSIA CITY ********************** Pokemon: Items to find: Rare Candy, TM - Toxic, HM - Surf, HM - Strenth, Super Rod, Soul Badge. Ok, here you will find the SAFARI ZONE. This will be covered in the "Optional Areas" section to come later in this FAQ. You DO need to get the gold teeth\Surf here though. So here is a SHORT walkthrough. Keep pedaling (yes use the bicycle) to route 4, there will be an item ball there after a sign that says "the secret house is still ahead", it's the gold teeth, get those, then go into the house to the left and get the HM Surf. Now run out of time, and go to the warden's house, get the HM Strenth. Teach this to Rhydorn which can be caught in the safari zone. Teach surf to Gyarados and your set. Get the rare candy in the warden's house by using...strenth! You can also get the super rod here, which is a must if you want to catch every pokemon. When you are done fooling around enter the Gym. Fight all the Jugglers\Tamers and then talk to Koga. ********************************************************************** GYM-LEADER: Koga TM - Toxic. I hate to say this but Your Lv. 50 Jolteon will CREAM his pathetic poison pokecrap. One thunderbolt a piece will be sufficient. Plus, Jolteon is so fast they won't get off a single move! Easy, yes? If you didn't train\get jolteon, you are SCREWED. Your best bet would actually be a Lv. 50+ Graveler, or a Powerful Grass\Sleeping pokemon. Pokemon: Venonat, Venonat, Venonat, Venomoth. ********************************************************************** Then he will hand over the SOUL Badge, which increases the defense of your pokemon. It also let's you surf outside of battle, which is what you need to do next convieniently. Fly to pallet town, heal your pokemon, and get ready for the Volcano Badge... C O L L E C T I N G T H E V O L C A N O B A D G E ************************************************** COLLECTING THE VOLCANO BADGE ************************************************** C O L L E C T I N G T H E V O L C A N O B A D G E Note: You can now go and catch 2 of the ledgendary birds, Zapdos, and Articuno. This is of course optional, and WILL be found in the "Optional Areas" section to come later. ********************* PALLET TOWN ********************* Pokemon: Tentacool, Staryu. Items to find: Are you shocked you are back at the start? I must say i am not. Get your butt in the water and surf south fighting endless amounts of trainers until you reach... ************************* CINNABAR ISLAND ************************* Pokemon: Omanyte, Kabuto, Aerodactyl, Rhydon, Dewgong. Items to find: TM - Metronome. Head to the lab on the left. Get the TM from a scientist, and trade Golduck\Growlithe if you want for some evolved pokemon. Now go to the 3rd door on the right and talk to the scientist there! Give him the Dome\Helix Fossil and the Old Amber. He will revive them and you will get Omanyte\Kabuto and Aerodactyl. Heal your pokemon, then enter Pokemon Mansion. ************************* POKEMON MANSION ************************* Pokemon: Growlithe, Grimer, Muk, Rattata, Raticate, Ditto. Items to find: TM - Blizzard, TM - Solar Beam, Carbos, Calcium, Iron, Rare Candy, Max Potion, Full Restore, Escape Rope, Secret Key. This place is huge, so i will leave you to explore. There are switches you must hit, but they are easy to figure out. When you need to fall off one of two cliffs, choose the left one. Besides that just keep exploring until you find every item and fight every trainer. You should have a powerful Gyarados and Blastoise by the time you leave....Then Enter the Cinnabar Gym. ********************** CINNABAR GYM ********************** Pokemon: None. Items to find: Volcano Badge, TM - Fireblast. Here you will face a quiz in each room. Get it right, and progress, get it wrong, and you must face the trainer to progress. Here are the correct ansewers, although they are easy: 1) Yes 2) No 3) No 4) No 5) Yes 6) No ...Then you will meet up with some weird old guy named Blaine... ********************************************************************** GYM-LEADER: Blaine TM - Fireblast Graveler, Blastoise, Gyarados, or Jolteon can easily defeat his 3 pokemon. I suggest Blastoise because he will be at relativly low levels. Pokemon: Ninetales, Vulpix, Arcanine. ********************************************************************** He will then give you the Volcano Badge, talk for a bit, and give you Fireblast. Your Main Pokemon Team should be: 1) Jolteon Lv. 52 Thunder, Thunderbolt, Pin Missle, Agility. 2) Graveler Lv. 48 Dig, Earthquake, Rock Slide, Strength. 3) Blastoise Lv. 48 Bubblebeam, Skull Bash, Blizzard, Water Gun. 4) Gyarados Lv. 48 Dragon Rage, Hydro Pump, Surf, Bite. 5-6) Kadabra\Artitcuno\Zapdos\Aerodactyl. Now head to Viridan......... C O L L E C T I N G T H E E A R T H B A D G E ********************************************** COLLECTING THE EARTH BADGE ********************************************** C O L L E C T I N G T H E E A R T H B A D G E ********************** VIRIDAN CITY ********************** Pokemon: Items to find: Earth Badge, TM - Fissure. Remeber the gym that wasn't open earlier in the game? It is now open, go in, fight all the trainers, and make your way along via the moving tile paltforms. Then you will fight the final GYM-LEADER, talk about an easy badge.... ********************************************************************** GYM-LEADER: Giovanni TM - Fissure Are you suprised? I'm not. Giovanni is easier than before now, as all of his pokemon will die before your mighty Blastoise. This shouldn't even be called a fight. Oh well. Pokemon: Dugtrio, Persian, Nidoqueen, Nidoking, Rhydon. Earth Badge ********************************************************************** He will then give you the EARTH BADGE, which makes ALL pokemon obey you. He will say a bunch of crap, and also give you the TM - Fissure. Equip this to a pokemon if you want, but all your pokemon should have MUCH better moves by now. Your team should now be as follows: 1) Blastoise Lv. 52+ Hydro Pump, Skull Bash, Bubblebeam, Blizzard. 2) Jolteon Lv. 52+ Thunder, Thunderbolt, Pin Missle, Agilility. 3) Gyarados Lv. 52+ Hyper Beam, Dragon Rage, Surf, Hydro Pump. 4) Graveler Lv. 52+ Dig, Earthquake, Rock Slide, Strength. 5) Articuno Lv. 52+ Ice Beam, Blizzard, Swift, Peck. 6) Haunter Lv. 37+ Night Shade, Dream Eater, Hypnosis, Confuse Ray. OR 6) Kadabra Lv. (Depends) Psywave, Psybeam, Psychic, Recover. Now you are ready to fight the ELITE FOUR, so head to Pokemon League. Gary will fight you once before you get there, but he is so pathetically easy. Just use attacks that are effective. E.G. Jolteon vs. birds. Graveler VS. Jolteon...you get the idea. At pokemon league you just have to show your badges to the guards, then it's off to Victory Road! ********************** *****VICTORY ROAD ********************** Pokemon: Moltres, Graveler, Geodude, Zubat, Golbat. Items to find: TM - Mega Kick, TM - Submission, TM - Explosion, TM - Sky Attack, Guard Spec, Full Heal, Rare Candy, Max Revive. Let me say right now that this is my least favorite area in the game. I hate caves in general, but this one is especially bad because you can only go 6-7 steps before engaging in some random battle. Anyway, to get through here just push boulders onto switches, nothing special. You can also find Moltres, the ledgendary bird of fire here. Unfortuantly, he is of little to no use to you. Still, you have to catch him! At the end is Indigo Plateau. ************************ INDIGO PLATEAU ************************ Pokemon: Items to find: Revive(s), Max\Hyper Potion(s). This is it, the last area before you face the elite four! Heal your pokemon, buy plenty of Max\Hyper potions and revives, and head to face the elite four! ************************ THE ELITE FOUR ************************ First up is..... ********************************************************************** TRAINER: LORELLI This is easy with the right pokemon. Jolteon kills them all easily. If jolteon is 63-65+ thunderbolt kills them in one hit! Otherwise you'll need to use your precious Thunder move. This is a pretty easy fight. Pokemon: Dewgong, Cloyster, Slowbro, Jynx, Lapras ********************************************************************** Onto... ********************************************************************** TRAINER: BRUNO For the two onix, and Machamp, Blastoise can take care of them easily. However, don't waste hydro pump on onix since it is a 100% rock type. Use that only on Machamp, since it is part fighting. For Hitmonlee, and Hitmonchan. You'll need to use haunter to put them to sleep, then use dream eater! easy, yes? Pokemon: Onix, Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, Onix, Machamp ********************************************************************** Next up is... ********************************************************************** TRAINER: AGATHA Thunder seems to work well against the ghost pokemon, and thunder EASILY kills Golbat and Arbok. Guess which pokemon you need to use... Pokemon: Gengar, Golbat, Haunter, Arbok , Gengar. ********************************************************************** ...finally, the most powerful trainer... ********************************************************************** TRAINER: LANCE Lance uses dragons, dragons are bad, evil, powerful creatures. Thankfully you have Articuno. Although you can use Jolteon or any other thunder-type pokemon on Gyarados and Aerodactyl. This isn't as hard as it should have been. Pokemon: Gyarados, Dragonair, Dragonair, Aerodactyl, Dragonite. ********************************************************************** Now you must face 'The Most Powerful Trainer In The World: Gary' ********************************************************************** The Most Powerful Trainer In The World: Gary Sandslash - Not too hard, Blastoise and Hydro Pump can clean up here. Alakazam - For him, i would use your most powerful pokemon, probably Jolteon. Thunder works well, also haunter can screw him up a bit. Then again, why not just use Pin Missle? Exeggutor - Gyarados...Hyper Beam...mmm. Cloyster - Just as easy as Lorelli's Cloyster, Jolteon\Zapdos kills it easy. Ninetails - Blastoise will prevail here....Hydropump kicks butt. Jolteon - Graveler OR Articuno BOTH work VERY well here. Wasn't that easy? Pokemon: Sandslash, Alakazam, Exeggutor, Cloyster, Ninetails, Jolteon. ********************************************************************** Now you can watch the nice ending, however, it's not over yet! no, no, no! onto the optional areas! ************************ OPTIONAL AREAS ************************ -SEAFOAM ISLANDS- Pokemon: N\A (please send info on this!) Items to find: N\A (please send info on this!) This is pretty basic, although a bit harder than victory road. All you need to do is push FOUR boulders into the water at any point. If you mess up, simply exit to reset the room. Afterwards, you can SURF in the rapids using Gyarados. Then you will meet up with articuno. Articuno was the hardest one to get for me anyway, nothing exremly difficult though. First use Zapdos to reduce it's health to almost NONE. Then bring in a weak pokemon, and watch it die. Then bring in Haunter\Drowzee\Etc and put articuno to sleep. Now bring in Jolteon, whose speed should be VERY high. Throw a few ultra balls and he's yours! -POWER PLANT- Pokemon: N\A (please send info on this!) Items to find: N\A (please send info on this!) I won't make these any harder than it should be, so this isn't going to be a long, comlicated walkthrough. Just walk till' you reach the end, and at the end is Zapdos! This is a very powerful electeric pokemon, so you'll want to get it. Simply weaken it to almost no health, and use haunter to put him to sleep. Then throw an ultra ball! Easy! -UNKNOWN DUNGEON- Pokemon: Graveler, Ditto, Chansey, Ryhorn, Rhydon, Staryu, Mewtwo. (probably others) Items to find: N\A This is the last area in the game, so i'll leave it to you to find Mewtwo. He is easy to find though, just follow the path. Once you find him, use the masterball and he is yours! Also here is a good place to build up weak pokemon as the give out 1000+ EXP per fight! Catch a chansey here too, you can teach it almost any TM, and it's HP is extremly high! Used as a 'first aid' for your team usually. If you can catch mewtwo, then all that is left is to get all 150 pokemon. And then there is geetting them all to Level 100. If you can "catch em' all", you are truly a pokemon master! -SAFARI ZONE- Pokemon: Nidoran (F), Nidorina, Nidoran (M), Nidorino, Venonat, Venomoth, Psyduck, Slowpoke, Doduo, Krabby, Exeggcute, Rhyhorn, Chansey, Kangaskhan, Scyther, Pinsir, Tauros, Dratini. Items to find: HM - Surf, Gold Teeth, Various Other Items (see gamefaqs.com for a map of where they are) This is really fun. You get 500 steps, and 30 balls to catch all the pokemon you can! You'll want to pick up a dratini, Chansey, And Venonat here if you can catch them - as they are extremly powerful. See the various FAQs at gamefaqs for expert advice on the safari zone, as i am no expert safari hunter! ======================================================================= 5) Best Teams\Suggestions ======================================================================= ~Undergoing A Complete Overhaul, Check back later~ ======================================================================= 6) Pokedex ======================================================================= Pokedex entries straight from the yellow edition.... #001 - Bulbasaur Grass\Poison HT: 2'04" WT: 15.0 lb Pokedex: It can go days without eating a single morsel.
