I had previously attempted to write a FAQ for both Fire Emblem Thracia 776 and TearRing Saga but never got around to finishing them (I have two websites: http://fe.gaban.com and http://ts.gaban.com dedicated to both games). Now that the latest Fire Emblem game is out, i've decided to put my efforts towards making a somewhat comprehensive FAQ of the game. This FAQ will also appear in HTML format on PlanetGameCube, a website I work for. I'm hoping to gear this FAQ towards people who are importing the game. NOTE: In order to serve as a visual guide for the game, you will definately need Japanese text support to view the japanese text in this file. If you are using Windows XP, it should be built in. If you are using Windows 2000, you can install it off your Windows 2000 CD. If you are using Windows 98, you can DL Japanese text support off Microsoft's website. It's strongly recommended that you do this so you can compare the text in this guide with that in the game. -------------- II. Basics A. Starting a Game The opening menu will have the following options: - 中?から始める - Load auto-save - 記録から始める - (kiroku kara hajimeru) Load save game - 記録を写す - (kiroku o utsusu) Copy a save game to another slot - 記録を消す - (kiroku o kesu) Delete a save game - 最初から始める - (saisho kara hajimeru) Start a new game - エクストラ - Extra The initial menu will only have Start a new game and Extra when you first load up. Once you start a new game, the other options become available. Once all 3 save slots are full, the Copy a save game option disappears. Also, if you have no Auto-save, the Load Auto-save option will not appear. NOTE: If you reset the game, your auto-save will still be active. If you want to clear the auto-save, select Load save game and you will start from the beginning of the scenario. This is important to know if your main character died and you happen to keep getting the Game Over screen whenever you load the auto-save! After selecting new game and choosing which file, a dialog pops up asking you if it's ok to start a new data file in this slot. The two options in the blue box below are "Start" (hajimeru) and "Stop" (yameru). Choose Start to begin the game. These options will appear every time you load the Auto-Save or a regular save file. From the Extra menu, you have 2 options (at first): - 通信闘技場 (tsushin tougijou) - Multiplayer Menu - チュートリアル - Tutorial The tutorial will help you learn some of the game's basics.. if you can read japanese that is. If not, there's always this FAQ. :) The Multiplayer menu will be discussed in its own section. B. Game Flow After the introduction, the game will flow like this: 1. World Map - Shows your party's current location and gives some general background story on the situation. 2. Party organization - This is where you manage your party, selecting which units you will bring into battle, equipping them, and viewing the map of the chapter. You will only get this in chapter 6. This will be explained in-depth in the Menus section. 3. Chapter Title Screen - The title screen will flash, showing which chapter it is. 4. Intro cut-scene - A cut-scene will occur, complete with backgrounds and all. 5. The chapter - The chapter starts! Hurrah! See Game Mechanics on how to play. After beating the chapter, the cycle repeats. C. Game Mechanics 1) Overview This game plays similar to Advance Wars and obviously is similar to previous Fire Emblem games. You basically control a group of units and the objective of every mission is to beat the boss and conquer the enemy's castle or throne with Roy (your hero). Your characters will each belong to a class. The class determines what weapons that character can use, give it various terrain advantages/disadvantages, and others. Each character has their own set of statistics. Stats are important since they affect how much damage the character will inflict and receive. Lastly, since Fire Emblem is a story-oriented game, there are many situations where you must have certain characters talk to some enemy characters in order to convince them to your side. 2) Classes ロード Lord - The main character's starting class. Lords can use swords only and have no specific advantages. They typically start out weak but can become strong by gaining levels. Lord is the only class that can use the Rapier and the Sword of Seals. ソシアルナイト Social Knight - A unit on horseback. These units gain the advantage of large movement range, though they cannot move very far on certain terrain (desert, hill). They can use spears and swords and are weak against the Knight Killer and rapier weapons. アーマーナイト Armor Knight - A foot unit wearing heavy armor. As a result, he doesn't have much movement range. These units typically have slow speed as well, but heavy defense. They can only use spears. They should be used primarily to shield weaker units. They are weak against the Armor Killer, rapier, and hammer. アーチャー Archer - foot units that use bows. Bows are 2~3 range weapons, so archers can never attack directly. This is both an advantage and a disadvantage. 僧侶 (souryo) Priest - these units can only use staves. So their only function is as support units who heal characters or inflict various status conditions on enemies. 傭兵 (youhei) Mercenary - Foot units who use swords. They primarily gain strength. 戦士 (senshi) Fighter - Foot units who use axes. Yusotai/Transport Unit - This is Merlinus' unit. It's a horse cart. The only thing you can do with this thing is to store and take out weapons/items. ペガサスナイト Pegasus Knight - a female-only unit on a pegasus (horse with wings). Their advantage lies in their movement range that is unaffected by terrain. They can only use spears. 魔道士 (madoushi) Magician - Mages can cast neutral spells (fire/wind/thunder). 盗賊 (touzoku) Thief - thieves are generally weak but with great speed. Their special ability is that they can steal items (but not weapons) from enemies, and they can use the thief key which allows them to unlock doors and open chests. They can only use swords. 剣士 (kenshi) Myrmidon (note: the japanese name actually literally means sword fighter) - These foot units specialize in swords. They get high skill and speed. トルバドール Troubadour - Female units on horseback that can only use staves. 遊牧民 (yuubokumin) Nomad - A unit on horseback that can only use bows. 海賊 (kaizoku) Pirate - foot units that can traverse water terrain. They can only use axes. 山賊 (sanzoku) Bandit - foot units that can traverse mountains. They can only use axes. 踊り子 (odoriko) Dancer - a female unit that uses its Dance skill to allow another unit whose turn has ended to move again. Cannot use weapons. バード Bard - a male unit that uses its Song skill to allow another unit whose turn has ended to move again. Cannot use weapons. シャーマン Shaman - a mage that uses dark magic only. ドラゴンナイト Dragon Knight - flying units that have great strength and defense. They ride dragons. Once a unit of the above classes (with a few exceptions) hits level 10. He can be promoted to a higher level equivalent with the correct promotion item (see section VI). The following are the higher level classes: マスターロード Master Lord - the Lord's class change. Occurs by event. ジェネラル General - class change for armor knights. Allows them to use axes. スナイパー Sniper - class change for archers. 遊牧騎兵 (yuubokukihei) Nomadic Trooper - class change for nomad. Allows them to use swords. ウォーリア Warrior - class change for Fighters. Allows them to use bows. バーサーカー Beserker - class change for pirates and bandits. +30 CRT 賢者 (kenja) Sage - class change for mages. Allows them to use staves. 司祭 (shisai) Bishop - class change for priests. Allows them to use light magic. ドルイド Druid - class change for shaman. Allows them to use staves. パラディン Paladin - class change for social knight. Allows them to use axes. ヴァルキュリア Valkyrie - class change for troubadours. Allows them to use magic. ファルコンナイト Falcon Knight - class change for pegasus knight. Allows them to use swords. ドラゴンマスター Dragon Master - class change for dragon knight. Allows them to use spears. ソードマスター Sword Master - class change for myrmidon. +30 CRT 勇者 (yuusha) Hero - class change for mercenary. Allows them to use axes. 3) Weapons There are 8 different types of weapons, and items. A character carry up to 5 of anything. His class determines what kinds of weapons he can equip and use. His weapon level also determines which weapons of that type he can use. A weapon that the character cannot use will be grayed out in his inventory. The different weapon types are: Swords - Quick and agile, but inflict low damage. Strong against axes. Weak against Spears. Spears - Medium damage and medium speed. Strong against swords. Weak against Axes. Axes - Strong damage, low speed. Strong against Spears. Weak against Swords. Bows - Ranged weapons that have attack range 2+.. Magic - Standard magic spells used by mages/sages. Strong against Light Magic. Weak against Dark Magic. Dark Magic - Spells used by shamans/druids. Strong against Magic. Weak against Light Magic. Light Magic - Spells used by priests/bishops. Strong against Dark Magic. Weak against Magic. Staves - Used for support (healing, status conditions, etc.) D. Menus The following menus are what you must pay attention to and learn: 1) The turn menu - Shows up when you hit the A button on the field during a scenario. 2) The unit's turn menu - Shows up when controlling a unit and hitting the A button 3) Party organization - The screen that takes place before starting a chapter (after Chapter 5) Turn Menu: When you bring this up, there should be a window with 5 options, they are as follows: 1) Party status menu 2) Scenario conditions 3) Options 4) In-game Save (resets game after saving) 5) Turn End Party Status Menu: When you load this up, you should see "Importance data" in english in the top left. Then the sort (default is name) then the page number (there are 6 pages). On page 1, the items listed are: Name, Class, Level, Experience, HP/MHP On page 2, Name, Strength/Magic Strength, Skill, Speed, Luck, Defense, Magic Defense, Element On page 3, Name, Equipped Weapon, Attack Power, Hit %, CRT On page 4, Name, movement range, build, carry, unit that the particular unit is carrying, and condition On page 5, Name, followed by weapon levels On page 6, Name, followed by 3 spaces that will be filled in with friendship conversations Scenario Conditions: This screen simply gives a brief overview on the scenario and your progress. The top titlebar contains the name of the chapter. The text immediately below displays the victory condition (usually capture the castle/throne), then on the right, the turn count and current party gold is displayed. Below that are two boxes. The top blue one contains the name of your party, how many units you have active, and Roy's name (since he's the leader). The bottom red box contains the name of the enemy party, the number of enemy units you can see on the map, and the boss's name. At the bottom is the total playtime of the game. Options (Configuration): They are as follows: -Battle Animation - 1 (no background) 2 (background) Off (map animation) Changeable (takes you to a menu where you can set the battle animation individually for each unit) -Game Speed - Normal Fast -Message Speed - Slow Normal Fast Interruptable -Terrain Window - On Off -Unit Window - Panel Bubble Off -Scrolling Help - On Off -Auto Cursor - On Off (sets whether the screen will automatically focus on Roy in the next turn) -Auto Turn End - On Off -BGM - On Off -Sound Effets - On Off -Window Panel - 1 2 3 4 (various types) In Game Save: Saying yes (first option) will save your turn where it is and exit the current game. Turn End: Use this once you're satisfied with your moves and want to end your turn. 3) Party Organization Menu To be completed in next version of FAQ. III. Walkthrough 1. Chapter 1 : Pherae Castle Roy, your hero, is out on an expedition with his retainer Marcus and three of his loyal knights when a fellow knight from his home town of Pherae brings news that his castle is under attack by bandits. Roy must hurry to the castle and defeat the bandits! Marcus - old man on horseback Level: 1 Class: パラデン Paladin Items: てつの剣 Iron Sword, ぎんの槍 Silver Spear アレン Alen - red haired knight Level: 1 Class: ソシアルナイト Social Knight Items: てつの剣 Iron Sword, てつの槍 Iron Spear ランス Lance - green haired knight Level: 1 Class: ソシアルナイト Social Knight Items: てつの剣 Iron Sword, てやり Hand Spear, きずぶすり Medicine ウールト Wolt - green haired archer Level: 1 Class: アーチャー Archer Items: てつの弓 Iron Bow, きずぶすり Medicine ボールス Bors - guy in big thick armor Level: 1 Class: アーマーナイト Armor Knight Items: てつの槍 Iron Spear, きずぶすり Medicine Treasure: 5000G - Send a unit to the house in the lower right corner. Strategy: Being the first chapter, this is a fairly straightforward chapter designed to get you used to the game's mechanics. Don't try to just throw any unit at the enemies. Pay attention to who your strongest characters are and use them to go up and strike first, or position them in front. Then have your weaker units attack from behind (such as Wolt, since he is an archer). Try not to rely on Marcus too much. Using him to kill enemies takes away valuable experience that your other units could get. You can use medicine to heal yourself. See the Menus section for how to do this. End Chapter: Roy finds his father alive, but ailing, and he finds out that his friend Lilina has been kidnapped. He sets out to find her. 2.
