Final Fantasy Tactics Advance Japanese Dialogue Translation Guide - *v1.00* Written by Elaine V.! - elainenara@yahoo.com Work Begun: February 15th, 2003 Previous Update: May 5th, 2003 ----------- What's New? ----------- v1.00 - 05/08/2003 - "God bless video recorders" is all have to say, because it took me seven or eight times to copy everything down in the ending. This puppy now has the whole main storyline, all the way through the ending! - Expect updates to be sporadic if they happen at all after this. After all, we should find out the official English-language release date soon enough, right? (And then on that day we can laugh at what I flubbed up on...) - Tossed in two lines at the end of Chapter 22 that I forgot to input the first time. Whoops. - Corrected footnote order, as promised. Also added a few more footnotes while I was at it. This guide is encoded in Shift-JIS format. If you don't have Japanese support on your computer, you will still be able to read the important stuff - the English translation. You simply won't be able to see the original Japanese. :> ********************LEGAL NOTICE - PLEASE READ!***************************** This FAQ is for personal use only, and is not to be sold or reintergrated into any other guides for this game or any other game, or translated into another language without explicit consent from myself. If you are looking for strategies on how to beat certain battles, or are looking for translations of menus, items, and/or skills, you WILL NOT find them here. For that, I suggest that you peek at Astroblue's excellent FFTA FAQ on www.GameFAQs.com, which contains that information. I've had about three years of Japanese at university and have been living in Japan for nine months as of this writing, so my Japanese has finally gotten to the point of intermediate level competency. Each section of the guide is roughly divided into the major battles of the game - Quests 1-24. Subquest (Quests 25-112) texts will be translated as I get around to them, but they are far from a priority on my to-do list. Non-battle quests are not translated here, for the simple reason that there's nothing to translate besides the Quest descriptions. :> The Prelude and Chapter 0 are called such so I could label the progression of the main in-game text in rough sync with the actual Quest numbers. Footnotes for the entirety of this document are contained at the bottom, and are labeled as such in the text by the designation [FN#]. All Subquests, to the best of my knowledge, do not require that Marche or Montblanc be in your party. Thus, the 'Lead' is the first character you choose to put out for that particular mission. If it's a Moogle, their speech in this section will be 'kupo'fied from what I have written here. Banga speech will be rough, Viera speech will be feminine, N'mou will be uh...something, and Humans will be normal. If Marche is put into the party, however, he will supercede all other party members and be the one to speak for the Clan. I will update when I get through a transcription of an area and have scribbled down/translated it in its entirety to my satisfaction. No sooner, no later. E-mailing me about it will not encourage me to translate faster. In fact, it will probably have the opposite effect, simply because I like being contrary. There are a few do's and don'ts I expect folks to follow in using this guide. Most normal, law-abiding human beings can skip numbers 1-4. Those are in big capital letters and in brief, for those with short attention spans: 1) DO NOT POST THIS DOCUMENT, IN PART OR IN FULL, ON ANY OTHER WEBSITE. If and when it goes up on other websites, it'll be by my choice, since I wrote the document. I get plenty of exposure for my work on GameFAQs and IGN alone; if I want to expand it, I'll do so at my leisure. I know I already said this above in the Legal stuff, but it's worth repeating. 2) DO NOT DUMP MY TRANSLATION INTO A PATCH FOR THE ROM. It will be very obvious that you did so if you do, since in some cases I didn't translate precisely from the Japanese text. If you want to be cheap and download the ROM, that's your own misguided prerogative. Don't expect me to make your life easier by letting someone put it into a patch. 3) DO NOT E-MAIL ME ASKING WHERE TO GET THE ROM. I will laugh at you. 4) DO NOT TAKE ANY TRANSLATIONS FROM THIS TEXT WITHOUT MY WRITTEN PERMISSION. Again, if you do, it'll be abundantly obvious that you did so. And the nicer stuff now. :> 5) DO send me corrections if you see any that need to be made. Since my Japanese still has (a lot of) room for improvement, I won't take any offense by you e-mailing me on any corrections that you see need to be done here, so as long as you give something resembling a good explanation as to why your thoughts on what they're saying is more accurate. Likewise to the above, if you see any spots where I can clean up my English and make it more natural, send it in. If I agree, I'll toss your name on the credits list and make the change. Just remember to send me mail with a subject line that says 'FFTA' in it, as opposed to say, 'FFTA ROM', since if you did that I would forward it on to a representative of Nintendo, since Nintendo is a big fan of software pirates. 6) Any submissions of in-game event text, provided it is in kana and not in romaji, will happily be accepted and translated even if I've not gotten to that point in the game yet. The game I'm actually playing on is considerably further along than this script - it's just taking me forever to transcribe the beginning of the game due to a severe lack of permanent save points. x_x If you don't know the difference between kana and romaji, you aren't going to send me any writing bits anyways, so don't worry about it. 7) Warm fuzzies are always welcome in e-mail. I luv warm fuzzies. ^_^ And now, without further ado... =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- THE TEXT ff_text =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ============================================================================ Prelude ff_prelu ============================================================================ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Prelude A: Opening Sequence ff_prelA ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lyle: Ewwww, this sucks! That team has all the weak morons on it. Maaan, being put together with these guys is going to be so boring. Lyle: Hey, Mewt, you don't have your precious Teddy with you today? Mewt: ... Corin: Yeah, he doesn't! I bet you didn't want to get your precious Teddy dirty in our snowball fight, huh? Guinness: Since you got it from your Mommy, it's reeeally important, ain't it? Lyle: What'll it be, new kid? [FN01] Guinness: Don't bother. He's not going to answer back. He's just like a girl. Ritz: Would you guys STOP IT? That's sexual harassment! That's total contempt for women! [FN02] Lyle: Uh...uh, come again, Ritz? Ritz: Is it so bad to be on the same team as them? If so, let's change places. Ritz: Does that work? I want to hurry up and get started. Ritz (to Marche): Go on and say your name. You don't want to be called 'new kid' forever! (At this point, you will get to select Marche's name. The six screens that you can choose from at the top are Kana pages 1 and 2, Katakana pages 1 and 2, English characters, or numbers. 'A' is input, 'B' is erase, and Start is 'Decide'. Marche's name defaults to katakana: 『マーシュ』. The final Check message asks, "Are you sure about your decision?" The first selection, はい, is yes - いいえ is no.) Mewt: Sorry, Marche. Marche: Eh, what are you apologizing for? You haven't done anything wrong. Mewt: ... Ritz: Mr. Lesley, we're ready! Let's start the game! Lesley: Okay, in that case, let the snowball fight begin! Get Ready! *Check: When you need command information displayed, you can use the Online Help. If there is a command you don't understand, try pressing the Select Button. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Prelude B: Battle #1 and the Fight ff_prelb ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Your side: Ritz (リッツ), Marche (マーシュ), Mewt (ミュート), Extra Girl. Their side: Lyle (ライル), Corin (コリン), Guinness (ギネス), Extra Girl. Judge: Lesley (レスリー) Only available attack: Throw Snowball (雪玉を投げる) -- After Ritz's second snowball: Lyle: Better bust your butt and run away, Mewt! Corin: Heh. The only thing Mewt's good at is running away. Mewt: ..... Ritz: Hey, stop that! Lyle: Look, we're just having a real snowball fight here. Ritz: So you say, even though you've only been aiming at Mewt! Marche: Mewt, you okay? Mewt: Yeah, I'm fine. Guinness: Hey, look! Mewt just said it's fine by him! Ritz: No kidding! If it wasn't fine by him, what would you guys do then? ((Corin throws a snowball at Mewt.)) Mewt: OW!! Marche: Hey, you guys cut him on the forehead! Mewt: Uhhhnnn? Marche: There was a rock inside...! Corin: Look, I don't know squat about no rock. All I did was throw a snowball. Guinness: Man, Mewt's sure dense. Lyle: Of course we were aiming at him. To win a game, you've gotta get points somehow, right? Ritz: You mean that to win, anything's fine? You guys are utter scum! THIS is exactly why I hate boys! Lyle: What did you say, you white-haired brat? Ritz: Who are you talking about!? Guinness: Even if you're dyeing it, your head is totally white! Corin: Yeah, Granny! You're always putting on airs! Ritz: Wha...WHAT did you SAY?! Mr. Lesley: All right, that's enough! The snowball fight's over. Lyle, Corin, Guinness, you're coming with me. Mewt, how's your injury? Mewt: Uhhh, it's okay. Mr. Lesley: That's all for today, everyone. Let's return inside. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Prelude C: After School ff_prelc ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mewt: Uh, ummm...th...thanks. Ritz: I hate bullies who pick on weak people. They're such JERKS! Mewt: What are you going to do from here, Marche? Marche: Hm? Why do you ask? Mewt: I think I wanna buy a book... an old book. What do you think about going (to buy) it together...? Marche: Sorry, I can't today. My little brother's coming home from the hospital. Ritz: Coming home from the hospital? Is he sickly? Marche: Yeah, his body's been weak since he was born. He can't walk, and so he has to go back and forth to the hospital. Ritz: Wow, that's really a shame. Marche: What sort of book is it? Mewt: Uh, I dunno, but it looked like it was about stuff like magic and monsters. Marche: Hey, bring that book and come on over to my house. Doned...my brother would probably be thrilled. Mewt: Is it okay? Marche: Ritz, what about you? Ritz: Hrm...sure. I don't have anything today, so yeah, I'll come. Marche: Good, it's decided. You know where my house is? Ritz: Isn't it the yellow house? Mewt: Once I buy the book, I'll be right over. Marche: Yeah, we'll be waiting. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Prelude D: Outside the Pub ff_preld ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cid: Hic! Ritz: Yeesh, you get drunk at lunchtime? Cid: Oohh, is thash Mewt? It'sh Daddy. Cid Randell. Mewth, what are you doing here now? Shchool? Oh, oh, Mewt! Wanna drinksh witsh Daddy? Mewt: Nah, that's okay. But Dad, you can hardly walk at all. Can you return home by yourself? Cid: Sake'sh soo good. You forget everyone and everyshing drinkingsh it... Mewt: If that's the case, are you going to do that with me tomorrow? Cid: Yesshh. Together. Then afterwardsh, we'll have a bit more. ((Cid hobbles off in a drunken stupor, wobbling to and fro.)) Mewt: Since Mom died he's always like this. Pretty bad, ain't it? Marche: Your parents must've been really close, Mewt. Well, I'll be waiting at my place for you guys. ((Marche walks down the stairs.)) Ritz: Mewt, how much do you know about Marche? Mewt: Huh? Ritz: I was a bit surprised at your dad, Mewt, but you've heard that Marche doesn't have a dad {since they're divorced}... [FN03] Mewt: ... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Prelude E: Marche's House ff_prele ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marche: Doned! Doned: Welcome home, big brother. You're late. Marche: There was a snowball fight at school. It went back and forth and everyone got covered in the white stuff. Doned: A snowball fight...yeesh, Marche, aren't you just going to be hit all the time? Stupid... Marche: I'm just not used to the snow. Doned: Marche, you're totally uncoordinated... Ms. Radiuju: Marche, your friends! Marche: Send them up here, please! Doned: Your friends? Did you call them over? Marche: Mewt found a cool book, so we decided that he should come and bring it over. Doned, you like books, right? Doned: I don't do anything but stay at the hospital, read books, and play games. Ritz: We're heeeerrre. Hi, you're Doned? I'm Ritz, your brother's classmate. That's Mewt. Glad to meet you. Doned: Nice to meet you. Marche: Mewt, the book? Mewt: Here it is. The old man at the shop said he didn't know this book's title either. Marche: Huh...that must mean it's a lot older than you thought. Here's a good wide spot on the floor. Doned, you can see it too, right? ((They open the book, and see pictures of the five races: Human, Banga, N'Mou, Viera, and Moogle.)) Marche: What's written here? I can't make heads or tails of it. Are these words a magic spell? Ritz: That sounds pretty close. Didn't this seem to be a magic square? Originally I thought it was Latin, but this book's been marked up; afterwards someone added in a translation. Mewt: 'Alta Olon.' 'Sondos Kamira'...it certainly sounds like magic. Doned: Magic's so cool. If I could only use it too... Marche: Doned, you certainly seem to be pleased. Doned: If I could do magic, Marche, I could walk all over the place! Marche: Don't say such dumb things, Doned. Doned: Ahahaha, I know it's not real. Mewt: You know, though, when I read the book, I wondered, "What if the book's world was real?" Ritz: I did too, and then I thought, "Nah, no chance that could happen." Still, there's definitely some sort of pattern in here to those pictures. Marche: What do you think it is, Ritz? And no saying, "It's like a comic book." Ritz: Hrmmm...I'd say it looks like a game. Lots of swordfighting against strong monsters. Don't you guys think that'd be cool? Marche: What kind of game? Ritz: Hrm. Good question. Mewt: If you ask me, I'd say it's like "Final Fantasy." Ritz: Wow, time really flew, didn't it? I gotta get going. Mewt: I have to go home, too. Later, Marche. See you at school tomorrow. Ritz: Marche, Mewt, today was a lot of fun. Doned, see you later too! Doned: Buh-bye, Ritz. Marche: I'll go see you guys off. Doned, I'm headed outside for a sec. Doned: If I could use magic... Ms. Radiuju: Doned, it's time for your medicine! Swallow it all down! Doned: Yeah yeah, Mom! ============================================================================ Chapter 0: A Whole New World - Ivalice ff_chap00 ============================================================================ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 0A) Lizardmen? ff_sec00A ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marche: Huh...where am....Oh! Excuse me. Rune: You weren't looking where you were goin'. Marche: A...a LIZARD? Rune: Whaddid you say, runt? WHAT did you say? Marche: Huh? Rune: Did you call me a lizard? Huh? Didn't you jus' say that, boy? Don't you DARE ever call us Banga 'lizards'! [FN04] Montblanc: Kupo! Finally found you, kupo! [FN05] Rune: Moogle, is this brat yours? Montblanc: He's from the boondocks, kupo. He doesn't know about you Banga at all, kupo. Marche: ... Montblanc: Look, he'll apologize, kupo. Marche: Oh, yeah, got it. I'm really sorry. Montblanc: Now, if you'll excuse us, kupo... (Marche and Montblanc walk away.) Rune: Hey! You! Wait! Montblanc: Kupo? Rune: I just got a good look at you. Your outfit...yer a Soldier, ain't ya? [FN06] Marche: A Soldier? Rune: Yeah. If you are, we can Engage here, and there won't be no more complaining outta me over your sorry rear. [FN07] Marche: What? What are you talking about?? Montblanc: ENTERING ENGAGE, KUPO! Victory Condition: Defeat all enemies! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 0B) Battle #2 ff_sec00B ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- (After Rune's first attack.) Marche: I get it...'Engage' is to enter a battle! Montblanc: Kupo! Any other brilliant insights that you want to share, kupo? The Judge is also here, and he decides today's Law, kupo! [FN07] Marche: Judge? Law?? Montblanc: Even though you're in the middle of an Engage, you're so oblivious, kupo. Today's Law is "Item Prohibition", kupo! If you don't follow it, the Judge will nail you, kupo! See, there's the Judge, kupo~! *CHECK! : You can access the command "World Law" from the Main Command list. Marche: Uh, okay. I think I get it..."Engage" is battle, "Laws" are the rules. And then, the "Judge", the armored knight, observes the Engage... Montblanc: Kupo, it's your turn! Since I'll be supporting you, let loose with that sword at your hip and with your Abilities, kupo! Marche: Gotcha. Lemme try them out. ^^^^^^^^^^ Opponents: Rune(ルネ): White Monk Yuber (ユーバー): Warrior (Suikoden III, anyone?) ^^^^^^^^^^ (After you kill your first enemy:) Judge: To the slayer of this incompetent, I grant you a Judge Point! Marche: Judge Point? (JP?) Montblanc: Gather Judge Points, kupo! If you do, you can do a cooperative attack, "Combo", kupo! They're great for when you're Engaged, kupo! Marche: So me defeating the enemies is a good thing? Montblanc: ((nod))! (When you win.) Marche: Wow, we really made it through this...didn't we? BATTLE CLEAR! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 0C) Battle #2 Aftermath ff_sec00C ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rune: Damn it....! Medicine...a potion.... ((Rune uses a potion. The Judge blows a whistle.)) Judge: Violation of Law #R2-4601: Item Prohibition! The perpetrator of this crime shall now be transported to prison! Montblanc: Kupopo...transported to prison, kupo. Aaaha...don't want to go there, kupo. Marche: Prison...? Montblanc: The place where people are sent temporarily if they break the law, kupo. It's daaark. It's a really bad place, kupo. Judge: Prison transfer complete. Those who wish to speak with him can go to the Mountain Peak City Spurom Prison. Marche: Spurom? A prison's there? Where the heck am I...? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 0D) Conversation with Montblanc ff_sec00D ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marche: Thanks for saving me. Montblanc: Don't ever call a Banga a "lizard!" Even a baby knows better than that, kupo! Marche: I really didn't know, honest... Montblanc: You say you didn't know... No way! This is really the first time you've seen a Banga, kupo? Marche: Seeing a real one, yeah... what the heck are you? Montblanc: Kupo? That's a strange thing to say, kupo. Where are you from, kupo? Kadoan? Muscade? Marche: That...I don't understand anything that's going on. Everything's messed up...Why is a stuffed animal talking? Montblanc: A STUFFED ANIMAL!? I'm a Moogle, kupo! [FN08] Marche: But...Moogles... Montblanc: Kupo. I understand your confusion totally, kupo. You need to calm down and adjust, kupo. First, this town's name is "Cyril". It's one of the towns in Ivalice, kupo. Marche: Ivalice? That's the same name as the town I live in. Montblanc: Town? Not country, kupo? Marche: Yeah. There, there aren't folks like you and the liz...Bangas. Only people. Montblanc: In other towns too, kupo? Marche: There aren't any in the entire world. We have dogs and cats, but that's about it. Montblanc: But you said earlier that you'd seen us before, kupo. Marche: Yeah...I did say I had, but not for real. I'd seen you guys inside video games. Montblanc: Kupo? Marche: They're called "Final Fantasy"...anyways, this is definitely not the real world. 'Video games' are a kind of game... they have heroes, and have a story, and you get to freely go about and adventure... Montblanc: It's a game, kupo? [FN09] Marche: Exactly. That's what a video game is... Montblanc: So if that's the case, you think you're in the middle of a game now, kupo? Marche: I dunno...I really don't. Montblanc: Wowie, that'd be a great story, kupo!! Marche: It's the truth, darn it! Montblanc: Even if you say it like that, I can't suddenly believe you, kupo.. Marche: What do you think I should do? Montblanc: I want to hear all the details of your story, kupo. Let's go someplace where we can talk more freely, kupo. Marche: Thanks. I'm Marche. You? Montblanc: I'm Montblanc, kupo. Good. Come with me, Marche, kupo! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- OE) Are You Nuts?! ff_sec00E ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marche: So here is...? Montblanc: This is the place where everyone gathers, kupo. I think this pub is really convenient for a Clan, kupo. Marche: Wow...everyone looks really strong. Montblanc: The work the Clan undertakes has a lot of rough spots, kupo. Marche: Yeah, I also need to find a way to return to my old stree... Montblanc: I think that'll be easy, kupo. Marche: How do I enter the Clan? Montblanc: Simple, kupo. Once I introduce you, you'll be a member of my Clan, kupo. Everyone, I'd like to introduce a new recruit, kupo. His name's Marche. Marche: Hello, everyone! Montblanc: I, and everyone else, will help you, Marche, kupo~. But in order for us to find a way for you to return home, you've gotta work hard too, kupo. Marche: Hrm, Montblanc. Doesn't this Clan have a name? Montblanc: Since our Clan's small, we haven't taken one, kupo. Kupopo! Marche, think of a good name for our Clan, kupo! Marche: ME?! Montblanc: In commemoration of your joining, kupo! Please, think of a cool one, kupo! (Here you again enter in a name for your Clan. The default is ナッツクラン, or Nuts Clan, a virtual self-fulfilling prophecy. Help these poor guys out by giving your clan a REAL name! You can enter up to eight characters. To keep things simple, I shall simply call them the Nuts Clan.) Marche: So, what do you think of "Nuts Clan"? Montblanc: Kupoooo! We're now the Nuts Clan, kupo!! First, we need to start getting you acclimated, kupo. Right now, we're in Ivalice, kupo... Check: When you clear a quest, you can possibly get a new 'symbol'. Put it in your favorite spot, then go start a new quest at a pub. If you put treasures in a fixed line, you can also go on a treasure hunt. Try and test lots of different ways! Info: Choose where to place the new symbol: Mountain Prison City Spurom. (At this point, you can finally do a perm save for the game. Whew.) ============================================================================ Chapter 1: Gathering Herbs (薬草とり) ff_chap01 ============================================================================ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1A) At the Pub ff_sec01A ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- (After you select the quest.) Barkeeper: Well, well - Marche, did you get a quest item? A quest item is an item that you need to undertake a quest. If you do a commissioned job properly, you can probably receive one. Since this one doesn't require that you need one, just go on ahead and select 'OK'. (Examine the quest conditions.) Barkeeper: This is the procedure for doing the quest. If you understand everything and are fine with it, go on ahead and sign. (Confirm here that you want to take the quest. You'll pay 300 Gil.) Barkeeper: All right, I've gotten 300 Gil as payment for this information, so... Good luck! Montblanc: Kupo? Did you get a good quest, kupo? Marche: Yeah. It seems like a quest even I can do, so I'm going to try it. Montblanc: When do we leave, kupo? Marche: As soon as possible! Montblanc: If that's the case, we'd better get equipped, kupo. We don't want your first job to be a failure, kupo... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1B) Battle on the Geeza Plains ff_sec01B ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marche: Before we gather the herb, what should we do about those monsters? Montblanc: I told you that Clan work has a lot of violent spots, kupo... (After the battle) Marche: Hrm, good enough, eh... Montblanc: So, what was that thing that we're searching for called, kupo? Marche: It's a type of herb...medicinal herb. Errr...Muskmaloi! Montblanc: Muskmaloi? That's growing all around us, kupo~. Marche: Eh? That? Montblanc: That 'n that, all of it, kupo. When I was a kid, one of the chores was to gather it, kupo. Muskmaloi gathering is something you can do all year round, kupo. Hey, Marche...was the information for this work really cheap, kupo? Marche: Uh, yeah...amazingly cheap. Montblanc: Oy, since it's your first job, they do that to you, kupo... Oh well, once we gather up these herbs, the job'll be done, kupo. ============================================================================ 2) The Vanished Dissertation (消えた論文) ff_chap02 ============================================================================ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2A) Which Dissertation, Again? ff_sec02A ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marche: Hey, Montblanc. Montblanc: Kupo? Marche: Do you have any idea what bandits would want with a dissertation? Montblanc: Kupopo? Kinda, kupo. But bandits don't limit themselves just to stealing money, kupo. Marche: Yeah, really... Huh? It looks like there's someone up there. N'mou: That's not it! That's Darilei's dissertation! I asked you to get Coleman's! Bandit: How was I supposed to know? You told us to steal a dissertation. N'mou: ...I'm halving your pay. Bandit: Like hell you are! It took a lot of effort for us to grab this! Montblanc: Marche, you shouldn't drop your hunches, kupo. Ooo, it's the masterminds, kupo... Marche: Stop admiring them, already! More importandly, we gotta get that dissertation back! Marche: Hey! Return that stolen dissertation! Bandit: What the...? Isn't that just some snot-nosed kid? N'mou: It's not a child. It's a Clan Member from someplace. Assuredly, a clan that Coleman has asked to recover his dissertation, feh. Bandit: Deals are made everywhere. Even if we're only fighting against a kid, why don't we see what these guys can do, huh? (After the battle) Marche: I think I'm finally getting used to this Engage thing... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2B) Clan Conflicts ff_sec02B ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marche: Hrm...this is the Table of Contents. Montblanc: Are all the pages there? Marche: Yep. It's okay. It's all here. Once we take this back and get off this mountain peak, we can call this mission a complete success. Montblanc: Kupo! You really did it, Marche. Great investigation. You really nailed this quest, kupo! Marche: Eheheh, guess I did, huh? Montblanc: Hold on. I thought we did it before, but we're probably going to enter into Clan Conflicts shortly, kupo... Marche: Clan Conflicts? Montblanc: Simply put, battling with other clans over territory, kupo. If we expand our sphere of influence, we can get information cheaply and get lots of merit, kupo. It'll definitely make searching for clues easier than it is now, kupo. Marche: So, this battling over territory means that we'll be Engaging other Clans? Montblanc: Once in a while, kupo. Marche: ...I'm not a bother to you, am I, Montblanc? Montblanc: Kupopo! Don't think that for a second, kupo! Marche: Thanks, Montblanc. Montblanc: Anyways, we're going to be busy from here on in, kupo. Time to go prepare, kupo! *Check: The World Map's Main Command "Clan" has been added. You can examine information on clans, quests, and a lot of other things! ============================================================================ 3) Greenwood (グリーンウッド) ff_chap03 ============================================================================ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3A) Cheers! ff_sec03A ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- (This scene is triggered when you first go to a town after the previous chapter.) Barkeep: Whoa, Marche. Looks like you put in a hard day's work. How was the investigation? Marche: Not bad at all! Barkeep: Not as bad as what? Recently, due to the Clan Conflicts, things have gotten worse and worse around here. Marche: Oh, really? Barkeep: I wandered all over the country, and it seems like the number of Clan engagements have been increasing. Even if they expand their fields of influence, it just means more and more death. If you're not preoccupied with something, make sure they aren't nearby. Even if you take them out one by one, there's no end to 'em. Sigh. At least there does seem to be one clan that listens to this old man, eh? Marche: Thanks for the head's up. Take care. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3B) Newbess Forest ff_sec03B ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ritz: At last, the Swindler Gang shows its true colors! Archer: Shit, persistant bastards! Ritz: If we weren't, we wouldn't be able to catch you! Ritz: Shara? What is it? Shara: Ritz, someone has come. Marche: Ritz!? Ritz: Marche? Shara: An acquaintance of yours? Ritz: From the "Other World." Marche: Ritz, these guys are... Ritz: The villains who made this vicinity into their hideout. This was their aim from before. It's dangerous here, so it's fine if you want to get away. Marche: No, we'll help. We also came here to capture these guys. (Before Marche's first turn.) Marche: I didn't think I'd meet you here, Ritz. Ritz: Me neither. I'm surprised to find you do doing Clan work. Marche: You're surprised? Is it that strange? Ritz: Well, in the Other World, you wouldn't even say your name, never mind attacking someone. Marche: ... Ritz: I don't think that's a bad thing. Are you planning on changing this world as well also? (After you win.) Marche: Ritz, are you okay? Ritz: Fancy that... are you worrying about me? Nonetheless, thanks. You saved us. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3C) Shara's Introduction ff_sec03C ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ritz: Let me introduce my fellow Clanswoman, Shara. Marche: My name's Marche. Pleased to meet you. Ritz: I told you about him before, Shara. He's a friend from the "Other World". Marche: Hey, Ritz...what do you think this world is? Ritz: Hrm. I think you also know, but... I think this is the Final Fantasy Game World. At first, I thought, "Oh no, I'm in a video game!" but I was a bit off the mark. Our town itself has become this game world. Marche: Why did this have to happen to us? Ritz: I... I've not really looked on this as a bad thing. Marche: Huh? Ritz: Err, never mind. Shara: You said to Ritz, "Let's go back to our old world," but she doesn't think the same as you at all. Ritz: Yes, what Shara said... I'm terribly sorry. Marche: No way...! You think the world is fine like this? Ritz: I like this world. You think that this whole situation is bad? Marche: I... Ritz: If you want to go back to that world, do so on your own. I'm not going to assist you. If you remember nothing else, remember that! Shara, let's go. Marche: Ritz! Ritz: Marche, I think we shall meet again, but for now, farewell. I was really glad to have seen you. Marche: ...Ritz, why? I don't understand at all. ============================================================================ Chapter 4 - Desert Wild Game (砂漠の野獣) ff_chap04 ============================================================================ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4A) Pubbin' ff_sec04A ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Montblanc: Kupo, Marche. What are you thinking about, kupo? Marche: Errr... about the next quest. What we're gonna be doing next time. Montblanc: Something that looks like fun, kupo. Marche: Yeah, fun! Only that I can't go back to my world. I can use magic, I can fight monsters, I can do all the things I've always dreamed about doing. Montblanc: Weeell, since this world's all that's left, we should aim to be the top clan, kupo. You're great when we get into Engagements, kupo. You're really getting good at it, kupo. Marche: Top clan? Hahahah, that'd be great. Montblanc? Montblanc: Marche, you're a good kid, even if you are discouraged, kupo. It's the 'Other World' that's consuming your thoughts, kupo? Marche: Eh? Montblanc: Can't you put a bit of faith in me, kupo? Marche: It...It's not that at all. I'm really grateful for you, Montblanc. Montblanc: If you don't want to worry me, that's fine, kupo. Your thoughts are full of worries, and I understand that, kupo. Marche: ...I...when I saw Ritz in Newbess Forest, I wanted to go back home, and all I could think was, "Can I go home here?" I thought, "Ritz and I can search for clues together for sure!" However, Ritz didn't... Montblanc: You're you. Other people are other people, kupo. You can't determine anything except for your own decisions, kupo. Kupopo? Marche: Yeah. My head gets that. I get that, but...can I go back home? If the world's going to be stuck like this, what should I do? Montblanc: Don't rush things. Take things one step at a time, kupo. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4B) Iruto Desert ff_sec04B ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Before Battle) Animal: Grrrr! Guuggarrrruuu! Marche: !! What was that howl? It sounds like those stories about animals working themselves into a frenzy were true... (After Battle) Marche: Is something causing all these monsters to go crazy? Marche: Do monsters get riled up like that frequently? Montblanc: Kupopopopo. These sort of jobs sometimes fall in our laps, kupooo. Marche: Ah, okay. Does anyone know what causes them to go haywire? Montblanc: There are a number of hypotheses, kupo. I, incidentally, buy into the Crystal Theory, kupo. Marche: Crystal? Montblanc: It says that the Court [FN10] created magical crystals [FN11], kupo. They say their awesome magical power results in the surrounding plant and animal life going slightly batty, kupo. Marche: So that's what they say has been going on around here. Montblanc: I don't really know, kupo, whether or not it's fact or fiction, kupo. Then after that, there's also a story about how they can make a dimensional gateway, kupo... Marche: A dimensional gateway and a Crystal, huh... ============================================================================ Chapter 5 - Crooked River (ゆがむ川) ff_chap05 ============================================================================ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5A) Yulay River ff_sec05A ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marche: It looks like a normal river. They said it looks crooked, but what did they mean by that? Marche: Was that just my imagination, or... ((A dimensional vortex flickers briefly in.)) Marche: The river!? ((A dimensional vortex flickers briefly in.)) Marche: What's happening?! ((Marche finds himself in another place.) Marche: Uhh...uhnnn. Wha...what happened? I felt myself swallowed by a blackness at the river. Where.... where am I? Ivalice? Some sort of ruins? What's that? ((He walks over to look at the crystal.) Marche: Is this... the Crystal? The river looking crooked must have been because of the Crystal's magical power... the rumor was true. ((The screen will darken.)) Voice: Ye who approach the Light of the Point of Binding. [FN12][FN13] What is thy name? Marche: Who's there? Divine Beast: I will ask thee this but once. Ye who approach the light of the Points of Binding. What is thy name? Marche: I...I'm Marche. Who are you? [FN14] Famfreet: I am called "The Divine Beast" Famfreet. The guardian of those who use this power. Marche: Divine Beast? The Crystal's Guardian? Hey, wait a sec! You think I'm here after the Crystal!? Famfreet: I regard thee as an intruder, mortal! Marche: I don't know anything about those Crystal things! Famfreet: My master's orders have called for the elimination of all intruders! Marche: I'm not an intruder! Stop! I said I'm not an intruder! ((Enemies and a Judge appear.) Marche: A Judge...an Engage, then. It's like all the other battles I've been in here in Ivalice. [FN15] Fighting you scares me a lot, big guy, but my fear's not going to come into play here! Don't think I'm going to go down without a fight! (After defeating Famfreet) Marche: We did it... he's defeated. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5B) Aftermath of the First Great Battle ff_sec05B ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marche: Please, tell me the meaning of the Crystal! Why have you had to guard it until now? Famfreet: The Points of Binding are what holds this world together. We were born to protect this world with the aid of the White Ones... Marche: The White Ones? Famfreet: The source of my power, the White Ones excel in the mechanical arts... Marche: ...Moogles? Famfreet: If they desire it, I shall lend thee my strength. ((Famfreet vanishes. A brief image of Mewt appears.) Marche: Mewt...? Voice: When the Points of Binding vanish, this world will dissipate, and the Other World shall appear. Marche: Who is that?! Is this "Other World" my old world!? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5C) Mewt's New Abode ff_sec05C ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cid: Yeesh, Mewt, this place is a pigsty. Mewt: Papa... Cid: Babus had a strange look on his face and he ran into my room. He was incredibly confused about something. Mewt: Babus is...? Cid: What's gotten into you, lad? Mewt: Papa, I just remembered something really bad. At school, everyone was tossing snowballs at me, and, and there were rocks inside of 'em, and... Cid: SCHOOL? Mewt, what are you babbling about? Mewt: Oho... I'm this country's prince. Its Royal Prince. Everyone listens to me. Everyone does what I want them to. This is my country, and there aren't any bullying jerks here.... MAMA! [FN16] Cid: Babus, thank you for finding her. Babus: Pardons, m'lord. Remedi: Mewt, everything's fine now, sweetie. Don't have any more of those scary thoughts. Mama's here now. I'm Queen Remedi. Papa's here too. Your Papa is this country's most brilliant Judge. All the Judges are here to protect you, so everything's fine, you see? Mewt: Mama? Can we strengthen the Laws? Is that okay? Remedi: Of course it is. I'll do anything that you desire, my precious son. Cid: Milady, it is not wise to indulge in such frivolous requests... Remedi: One of the Crystals has been shattered. Cid: WHAT!! That cannot possibly... I understand, my lady. There will be no objections from the Judges on the strengthening of the Laws. Remedi: I rely upon you, Judge Cid. Cid: By thy will, milady. Mewt: Ma...mama, mama... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5D) Soliloquy ff_sec05D ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marche: Whew, I've gotten back here safely. Famfreet said that the Crystals are what hold this world together. "If the Points of Binding vanish," he said, "the other world will appear." There must be other places in this world where Crystals are stored. When all the Crystals are destroyed, I might be able to return back to my own world. I gotta try and find 'em, but I don't have anything but clues... * Check! - Moogles are now able to use the Battle Command "Divine Beast"! ============================================================================ Chapter 6 - Anti-Laws ff_chap06 ============================================================================ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6A) New City ff_sec06A ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Voice: Why did the Laws get strengthened all the sudden? N'Mou Sage: The Palace has always frequently changed the Laws, haven't they? Human Archer: Dang, the Queen must be having heat flashes or something. [FN17] N'Mou Sage: Hey, hey, don't even allude to stuff like that. You don't want anyone to hear you. Do you want this hot tip or not? N'mou: Are you also concerned about the Laws' strengthenings, kid? Don't worry - it's not going to do a bit of good soon. Marche: How can you say something like that? All of Ivalice is underneath the power of the Laws. N'mou: Oh, if only there was a sure-fire way to get around them, hrmmm? N'mou Sage: Hey, do you know about that rumor? Human Archer: Anti-Laws... Ezel Berbier? Blue Mage: I think that's a load of crap. Rendering Laws ineffective? Human Archer: But, if someone could actually do that... Marche: Rendering Laws ineffective? N'Mou: As they said. Marche: Do you know how to find this Ezel Berbier person? N'Mou: You want to meet him? Oh, they say that's impossible. He's always being followed, being the busy sort he is with all those people and all. You're better off giving up. Marche: You know an awful lot about Ezel, don't you? N'mou: I love learning everything I can about famous people. Welp, best be off. Have a promise I have to keep. Marche: Anti-Laws... Ezel Berbier. I better see if I can meet him. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6B) Anti-Law - Revisiting Oasis ff_sec06B ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This scene triggers the next time you go to Oasis. Marche: It's that guy! Female Human Illusionist (FHI): Do you think you can run forever? Just give up quietly now! N'mou: Oh, ever since I was born, I was horrible at keeping still and quiet. FHI: To snag you, the "Brilliant Ezel", would be a savory victory. Ezel: You're singing that song again today? You only think about success. That's such a booo-ring way to go about life. FHI: CAPTURE HIM. Don't worry about not injuring him! The only important thing is his head! Ezel: Oh, that's too harsh. If you have to capture me, gently's the way, gently, deary. Marche: HE'S Ezel? We'd better save him! (During Marche's first turn.) Marche: So you really WERE Ezel Berbier! Ezel: Chipper, aincha? Seems like you're the only one who'll listen to me, kid. Marche: Who are these guys? I don't know about the Judges, but why would they want to get their hands on you? Ezel: There was a little bit of trouble during some business. They were SO stingy. When they requested 100,000 Gil, I said that was a total ripoff. They were really tight-fisted. Marche: 100,000 GIL!? Ezel: That's the bounty on my head for being able to overturn Laws. Insultingly small, ain't it? Marche: ... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6C) A Brief Visit ff_sec06C ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ezel: Well, I'd better introduce myself. Ezel Berbier, at your service. Marche: I'm Marche. Ezel: I want to do you a favor, Marche, but unfortunately I'm a bit short on free time at the moment. Marche: Who were those folks that were chasing you? Ezel: Oh, that. You know how I'm the "Brilliant One"? I'm just that popular. Off-screen Voice: Within the N'Mou Tribe, they refer to you as the "Strange One", don't they? Ezel: If you want to put it bluntly. It is my destiny to be known as the 'Talented One' someday as well. Cid: Ezel Berbier, at last. Marche: That fellow... Mewt's papa is the Judge Master? Cid: I want you to tell me about these 'Anti-Laws' you've created. Would you indulge me? Ezel: Accept my sincere apologies, but I have to refuse. It's a shame, but I deplore awkward situations like that. ((Cid flashes forth a card.)) Ezel: Ah, the Judge Master's Advanced Law. That one sends one to Prison, doesn't it? How scary, how scary... Cid: If you know what I want, say it quickly. I deplore violence. Marche: Ezel! Ezel: Oi, oi. I didn't want to use it here. Cover your eyes, lad. GO, Anti-LAW! ((They vanish as Ezel throws a card up into the air.)) Cid: It cancelled the Advanced Law... they weren't kidding when they said he was the "Brilliant One". Return, men! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6D) Can't You Guess By Now Where They Are? ff_sec06D ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- (At the Bar, in case you haven't figured out the pattern to this game yet.) Marche: Ezel... was that an "Anti-Law" just now? Ezel: Yep. Cancels out a Judge Master's Laws like a charm. I can seal them out via that technique easily. Marche: Wow, that's incredible. Ezel: Yes, I am incredible, if I do say so myself. Ha ha ha. Marche: Ezel, it's really oaky if you do that sort of thing? Ezel: Those guys ignore what we want and change the Laws on selfish whims. It's pretty much a necessity. It's a trip to whip out an Anti-Law on those arrogant bastards. Anyhow, Marche, I'll tell you the location of my shop. Marche: A... shop? You have a shop? Ezel: I'm a specialist in the exchange of Law Cards. Don't let anyone else know, got it? If there's a card you want, come on by and take a peek. Marche: Sure. I'll definitely drop by! =========================================================================== 7) Crystalized Rain (水晶の雨) ff_chap07 =========================================================================== Marche: The rain has really started coming down hard. I better keep a look out for what's under my feet. (After battle) Marche: Even after we killed those things off, the rain's still coming down! Marche: I thought for sure that this crystalized rain had some sort of connection to the Crystals...? The rain's shimmering? Ah, it poofed. What was that? It wasn't a crystal, nor was it snow. Does this rain really have a connection after all...? =========================================================================== 8) The Mountain of Awakening (目ざめる山) ff_chap08 =========================================================================== Marche: Is it my imagination or are things REALLY hot here? Yeesh, this investigation is also dangerous. An earthquake! Amazing... not a single eruption! A portal? There's gotta be a crystal here also! ((Marche enters the portal, and sees a room with a big crystal in the center, curiously enough engraved with the astrological sign of Virgo.)) Marche: Butterflies? Butterflies are flying all over the place. This place definitely has a different ambience than the last one. It must be because there's a different crystal here. I need to break it. If I do, the world will return to normal for sure. Huh, it doesn't look like there's a Divine Beast here guarding it... ((Red crystals start appearing)) Marche: Wh, what?! That's also a Divine Beast? This place's crystals are the Divine Beast? (After Battle) Marche: The Divine Beast's presence has disappeared... Marche: The Divine Beast Famfreet said it was born alongside the Moogles. Do these crystals also have a connection with a Tribe? If that's the case, which Tribe? It looks like there's a magic square surrounding and protecting the Crystal here... "Those whose magic runs deeply through their beings"...the N'mou Tribe? ((The Crystal shatters.)) Voice: WHAT! WHO IS THERE? Image of Mewt: I don't wanna remember those awful things! Stop it, STOP IT! Marche: That voice... Mewt!? Image of Mewt: Mama didn't die! Mama's alive! She's always been with me! Who's there? Who's trying to destroy my world!? Stop ruining things! Don't enter my wooorrrld.... Marche: Mewt... a prince? "My World"? So this world must've been envisioned and created from Mewt's hopes and desires. His mother's alive, everything is going the way he wants it...this world is Mewt's dreams made reality. Returning the world to normal means breaking Mewt's dream... I... I really am ruining things for Mewt, huh. * Check! - N'mou are now able to use the Battle Command 'Divine Beast'! =========================================================================== 9) The Forest with the Hidden Magic (魔力を秘める森) ff_chap09 =========================================================================== Moogle Thief: This tree looks pretty good, kupo. Summoner: It does, doesn't it? Its size is also suitable. Let's chop it down. Moogle Thief: After we cut it down gently, we'll be saved, kupo. When we had allies, things didn't go this well, kupo. Summoner: Truly. If we sell this, it'll fetch a handsome price, and we'll have found a definite income from now on. Marche: There they are! They're trying to cut down the tree! Moogle Thief: Crap, we've been found, kupo. Summoner: Pheh, this isn't a problem. You're about to learn about the virtue of silence! (After win) Marche: Yeah! Let's turn these guys on in. Judge: Walk ahead quietly. Archer: Thanks for your cooperation on this matter. Marche: A forest with a great magical power, eh... I bet that's because of the influence of a Crystal. ============================================================================ 10) Emerald Fortress (エメラルドの砦) ff_chap10 ============================================================================ Marche: The Great Emerald crystal...I wonder if that is a Crystal. Voice: So you're also searching for the Emerald? Babus: And just as the Academy finally left, too. Sheesh, you Clan people are regular hyenas. Marche: Who are you?! Babus: I am the Magician to the Court of Prince Mewt, Babus. By the Prince's royal orders, I am investigating this area. Marche: Mewt's retainer... Babus: Do you know something? Marche: I... I don't know anything. I don't know anything about what was hoped for this world or why it was born. Babus: ?? You, what did you say... Marche: I said I don't know why Mewt wanted the world to be this way! Babus: Impossible, you... you're trying to attack Prince Mewt! Is that it?! Marche: No, it's not because I want to hurt Mewt! I just want the world to return to normal! Babus: Return the world to normal? HA! You claim you don't know anything? That doesn't matter. Capture him! (Before Babus's first move.) Babus: You said, "I want to return the world to normal." What did you mean by that? Marche: Ivalice isn't a country of desert! It's a little town in the middle of nowhere where it snows all the time! That town suddenly changed to this. Mewt wanted the world to turn into the world of Final Fantasy! [FN18] Babus: HAHAHAHAH! The world changed, you say? If only I knew what to respond to that with! Marche: I'm telling the truth! Babus: If that's true, what is this world, then? A fanciful 'fantasy' land created solely for your amusement? I've served the Prince since he was a babe. You honestly expect me to be able to believe that load of rubbish? Marche: Mewt isn't a prince!! He's a normal kid! Babus: You insolent whelp! Now on top of everything, you dare suggest that the Prince was ever with a commoner like YOU? (After defeating Babus) Babus: Ugh...I was ill-prepared for this. I have no choice but to retreat. Whatever your reasons, boy, the one thing that will not change is that you are an enemy to the Prince that needs to be eliminated. There is one truth here in my opinion - you aim to hurt him. Marche: That soul from before...? ((The Divine Beast appears.)) Marche: Another Divine Beast!? You absorbed that soul! Beast: Intruder! I shall not allow any save my master to approach the Point of Binding! Marche: I've come to destroy the Crystal! Don't hold out some hope that I'm going to change my mind and turn back now, because I'm not! Beast: My power was granted to protect the Point of Binding. My name is Adrammelech, and I shall destroy all intruders! (After win) Marche: Those souls were probably the source of the Crystal's power. I heard before that the Crystal was a magical stone, but that was not magic. Some sort of strong power seems to have spawned the Divine Beasts and the Tribes. (Upon returning to the Caverns) Babus: !! YOU!!! Marche: Babus! Babus: What did you do here? The feeling I got around this cave was not normal at all! Were you trying to harm the prince? Voice... ma, Ma...where ar...? Where are.... y...u? Babus: What in Ivalice...!? Marche: A portal... did I leave something behind by mistake? Image of Mewt: Babus! Babus: Prince!? Image of Mewt: No one's here...where are you? Huh? Babus, where are you!? Babus: You're searching...for me? ((The image vanishes.)) Babus: So it's as you said...there are two worlds. Your 'real world' is what sort of thing for you? What do you have there in that world? Money? Power? Do you have to continue hurting the Prince to get back? Marche: Well... Babus: You can't answer that, can you? For that pitiful purpose you cause the Prince anguish... pathetic. The Prince clearly needs me [FN19], so I'll leave for today. Nono: Kupopo? Big brother, who's he, kupo? Montblanc: Kupokupo. I just forgot to introduce him, kupo. This is my new friend, Marche, kupo. Marche: Pleased to meet you. Nono: Nuh-uh, I'm pleased to meet you, kupo! Marche: Anyhow, going back to your story...did something bad happen to you? Montblanc: No, he's... Nono: I was in a hit-and-run accident, kupo! Marche: A hit-and-run? Montblanc: Nono is an engineering apprentice, kupo. Making an airship is his dream, and he about completed it, kupo. Nono: We were christening it for its first voyage, kupo. But... Marche: ...someone stole it, huh. Wow, that's terrible. Nono: I worked so hard, day in, day out, and fiiiinally built it, kupo. That was my ship, kupo! Marche: You don't have any idea who did it? Nono: They're from the Yakuto, kupo! [FN21] The guys who did it are in the Dolusa Yakuto, kupo! Marche: Uh. If you already know where the bad guys are... Montblanc: It's not that simple, kupo... no one's given you an explanation about the Yakuto yet, have they, kupo? Marche: No, no one has. Montblanc: The Yakuto are places where the hands of the Judges just don't reach, so they are Lawless lands, kupo. Marche: You mean that even if we violate laws there, it's fine? Whoa. Engages ought to be a lot easier there. Montblanc: Tsk, kupo. Right now, Yakuto are swarming with clans, kupo. Marche: So it's not going to be easier? Montblanc: Rather, it's going to be harder, kupo. Marche: What? Montblanc: Like I said, Yakuto are places where laws are totally ineffective, kupo. However, there is one twist to that, kupo. Marche: One twist? Montblanc: Death, kupo. Marche: ... Montblanc: In an Engage, the Laws and Judges ensure that the dead don't leave this world permanently, kupo. The Judges and Laws came and they sealed the penalty of death. Marche: So you're saying that if there are no judges, you can really die? Montblanc: Ayep, kupo. Anyone with half a brain knows better than to go anywhere near there, kupo. Marche: We can't just leave Nono like this, though. Montblanc: Yeah, I agree on that, kupo. Montblanc: Marche, I don't mind going into the Yakuto, kupo. However, I want you not to forget to be REALLY REALLY careful when we go there. Nono: You're really going to go to the Dolusa Yakuto for me, kupo? Marche: I don't know whether or not we can capture them, though, but we'll try. Nono: Sorry about this, Marche, kupo. It's all right to take it, kupo. Nono: Once the ship's repaired, I'll be really in debt, kupo. I think I'll make the ship into a trading ship, kupo. Montblanc: Kupoooo? A trading ship!? Marche: Isn't your ship small? How do you plan to do trading? Nono: To do things on a large scale will be impossible, kupo. I'll probably do small and intimiate trades with individual merchants, kupo. Montblanc: Kupooo. When you get your airship moving, that'll work great. Nono: You really think so, big brother, kupo? Marche: ...yeah, I think so. He's convinced I'm a threat to his existence. Ritz: Prince Mewt is well aware deep down that he was a weakling totally bullied all the time as Mewt. Marche: Mewt hates the real world. I really think he's happy here. Since I'm trying to destroy it, though, I'm his enemy. I'm the harbinger that's off to destroy his dream. Ritz: I know that you're trying to destroy his dream. The question is, "Why?" There must be something here that you think is much better here than in the original Ivalice. Marche: Something that I think is better? Ritz: Hasn't something changed for you at all? You're not called 'new kid any longer.' Don't you have some situation that you wanted changed in the real world... like at home? Marche: ... (Marche's first turn) Marche: Ritz...you really don't want to go back home? Ritz: Look, Marche, no matter how many times you ask, my answer'll be the same! I have no desire to go back. Marche: Why? Why don't you? Ritz: What do you mean, "why don't I?" Marche: Why do you want things to remain like this? I understand what Mewt's probably thinking... but what reason do you have? Ritz: I...it has nothing to do with you!! Shara: They were only trying to drag you to the Court. Ritz: Yeah. I think they only wanted you. Marche: I better get going. Ritz: Yeah. Good luck. After this, I'm probably going to have to ally myself with Mewt, which means I'm going to be your enemy after this. I hope you understand that! ((Marche walks off.)) Shara: He was concerned about you. Why didn't you want to cooperate with him? You have no love for the Court. Ritz: That's a first...you, Shara, being worried about something. Shara: If what he said was true, your friends and family are also in the "Other World". Ritz: I...I definitely don't want to get it back. My hair. My no-longer white hair. Shara: Your...hair? But, what with the Judges and the bounty and all, everyone's on your tail. Marche: ... Ezel: Anywho, have you looked outside lately? There's a certifiable uproar all over. Marche: Huh? What do you mean? Ezel: It's only a rumor, but the Judges seem to be checking out all the Clans in the area all the sudden. Marche: Clans? Ezel: Yeah. There's no doubt it's to get you. Since they totally haven't been able to get a hold of you, they've had to resort to those sort of vigorous measures. The Court also seems to be getting antsy. Marche: Ezel, don't you think that they're going to try to capture some bad guys? Ezel: Nah, I don't think that. Those folks who are chasing you are probably allied with the Court. Keep yourself on the straight and narrow for now... just like I am. Marche: Ezel... Ezel: Don't let those bastards grind you down. Anyways, take care of yourself. Marche: Got it. Thank you, Ezel. Marche: Wait! The other folks in the clan have nothing to do with this! Cid: I suppose they had nothing to do with hiding you as well? Marche: Oh no! Famfreet, Ultima, Adrammalech...I defeated them all. Cid: It seems you're telling the truth. The names of the Divine Beasts should only by the innermost members of the Court. Marche: Everyone in the Clan will come to save me. I just want to go back to my original world. Cid: Your... original world? Babus: He's said before that his hometown in the middle of nowhere was transformed into our country of Ivalice. Marche: I'm not lying! I wasn't the only one who lived there! Mewt did, and so did his dad, you... Babus: How dare you! Cid: The destruction of the Crystals will result in chaos across Ivalice. However, their destruction seems to have a different meaning for you. Returning to your original world... right? Are there any other ways you can accomplish this? Marche: ... I don't know. Cid: If that's the case, then you must abandon your quest to return home. The Crystals are the crystals that protect the world's balance. If the Crystals are destroyed, that will mean that this world will collapse. Marche: ... Cid: At the moment, it's simply a story that you entered this world. What you can do about that is not hard at all. Forget what you know about Marche: Forget my world... Cid: From my sources, it seems your clan is on the strong side, isn't it? Power, friends, rank, money...you can get them all here. What do you want beyond those things? Marche: ... Cid: This is not your problem alone. You're also hurting Mewt. Marche: Mewt...no! You have no friends to help you. Even in that sort of disadvantageous situation, though, you'd probably say, "Let's fight!", eh. Do you believe that you can hold your own? Marche: ...no, I don't. I don't have confidence in myself. I always go, "Can I really do this?" But, you know, if I just pretend to not see bad things, nothing moves forward at all, does it? I really like this world. I can use magic and all the Clan stuff is really cool. I've had times where I didn't know whether or not I really wanted to go home. However, this place isn't real. It's a Game. This is where I'd go to forget my real life for a little while whenever something bad happened. I have to go home! Open your eyes already, Mr. Randell! [FN27] I AM breaking the Crystal. I'm gonna go back home! (After declaration of battle.) Marche: Judge Master...no, Mr. Randell! [FN27] Don't you remember the real world? Cid: ... Marche: I met you on that day in town! Babus: If those things will happen if you returned home, you definitely won't be returning! Marche: If you understand that I'm trying to go home, why are you coddling Mewt? Babus: Totally off the mark! I'm saying that if you return, you'll do the Prince in! Eh, wait... the Prince isn't scared of you! If you try to return to your so-called reality, you shall fail! After she died, I stopped working, and I only drank alcohol... Babus: The Queen died? Marche: Mewt didn't want to believe that his own dad had become a slob. Thus, in this world Cid was remade into a mighty Judge Master. Or... maybe I was the one who wished for that. Babus: Lord Cid... Cid: Babus! The Judges shall become independent from the Court from now on! Babus: Heavens! You wish to leave the Court? Leave the Prince!? Cid: He should not have a false creation of a father by his side. So for Mewt, no, for me also, this is the best decision. I shall return to the palace. Release those who've been captured unjustly. Including him. Marche: Including... me? Babus: Lord Cid! Cid: Whether or not this boy is a danger to Mewt and this country is not something I am capable of deciding right now. Babus: ... Cid: Even if we separate from the Court, the Court will...Mewt will probably continue to follow you. However, the Judges will shortly not be participating in this hunt. Hey, what do you mean by saying, "You cannot win?" Llednar: You can't beat me. Marche: Huh? Llednar: You can't beat me. At all. Marche: Why, you...! [Start of Marche's third turn.] Marche: I can't even phase him! It's just like the Judge Master said...how are you totally brushing off my attacks? Llednar: I told you earlier. "You can't beat me." You're finally understanding that. ((Llednar prepares his Omega Attack again.) Marche: No, not again with that... Llednar: You are an obstacle. You shall be eliminated! Cid: You forgot the Law, Llednar! ((Cid red-cards Llednar. It's about damn time the opposition gets red-carded on their own! - and preemptively, too!)) Marche: Is it...over? Cid: It is finished. The victory is yours. What are you going to do? If you want to go back, I'll escort you to the portal outside. Marche: I've gotta find the last Crystal. ((Another portal opens. You enter.)) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18B) Divine Beast Matias (神獣マティウス) ff_sec18B ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cid: I cannot stop you. Feel free to go ahead. ((Marche advances forward. The Divine Beast appears.)) Marche: The Beast that overseas the Human Tribe... Divine Beast: Why are you trying to break the Crystal? Marche: !? ((The Beast transforms into Ritz.)) Ritz: This is no good at all. Marche: RITZ!? Ritz: I want to stay here. Marche, don't you want to, too? Marche: No, I don't... Ritz: Look, you're not lost here. Stop what you're doing! You keep saying, "Let's go back to the real world," but you'll just go back to being a normal boy there. ((Ritz turns into Doned.)) Doned: She's right, big brother. This place here is fun! We can do anything here! Marche: Doned! Doned: We can be warriors, beat up on monsters, and use lots of magic. I'm just like a main hero in a game! Didn't you always wanna be one? There are lots of exciting things to do here! We can go on big adventures beyond anything we ever thought of back in our home in the middle of nowhere! ((Doned turns into Mewt.)) Mewt: What do you expect to happen if the world returns to how it was before? Something good? Marche: Mewt... Mewt: Do you want your dad to come back? Marche: !! Mewt: Whenever your Mom and Dad opened their mouths, all they ever did was fight! Your dad only thought about work, and your mom devoted herself to Doned. You were always alone at school and at home...same as me. We're pretty similiar, you and I, so I understand how you feel. Marche: ... Mewt: Don't you think it a good thing that we came here? I'm no longer lonely, and I'm able to finally LIVE a little. Marche: I DO like it here! However, I don't think we should continue to stay here at all...! ((And finally, in a nice echo of Final Fantasy IV...)) Image of Marche: Amazing, Marche. You are strong. That strength is what's driving you to try to leave here. Marche: ...stop. IOM: We don't need people like you here in this world. Folks who don't need magic...indeed, indeed. You are someone who can actually face yourself. Marche: I said stop already! I'm not strong! I'm not strong at all! IOM: If only you could do the same with your feelings. Not only do you have a brain that you're willing to use; you have a ridiculous ability to endure. Even more than an honor roll student. Marche: SHUT UP! GO AWAY! You are NOT me! You have no idea what I really think! You're a Divine Beast! ((Matias and the previous three - Ritz, Doned, and Mewt - materialize.)) Marche: I'm going to return the world to how it should be. I WILL return back to the real world! [After win.] Marche: Time to return. Everything should go back to how it was before. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18C) The Shattering ff_sec18C ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marche: What? Why didn't anything happen? Are there still some other Crystals somewhere!? Cid: To the best of my knowledge, that's all of them. Marche: Then why isn't anything happening!? Voice: Because this world is still desired. Remedi: Even with the Points of Binding gone, the world remains. This world is the expression of one's desires. Marche: Who are you? Cid: That's Remedi...Queen Remedi. Marche: So that's...Mewt's mom... Remedi: Mewt wished for this world. Mewt still needs me. Therefore, the world remains. Marche: Oh no! Remedi: It's not just Mewt. Beyond him... there is something you wish for, as well, from here... [Back to the Desert.] Cid: Even though you broke the Crystals, you didn't return to your world. What do you plan to do now? Marche: I think I'm going to try to meet Mewt. Meet him, talk to him... from there, who knows? Cid: Mewt does not ever leave the palace. Are you sure there isn't something else you can do? Marche: ((head shake)) Cid: I'm sorry I could not be of more assistance. Marche: It's okay. I still need to figure out my own feelings. Cid: Indeed...it would be a good idea to find your own answers to fuel your self-understanding. *CHECK! - Human Tribe members can now use the Battle Command "Divine Beast"! ============================================================================ 19) Materia Crystal Gathering (マテリア水晶採取) ff_chap19 ============================================================================ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19A) Serendipity Strikes Again ff_sec19A ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hunter: Man, those guys just keep getting closer and closer, huh? Blue Mage: The Court is also gonna be holding a big event. Illusionist: I went once before. It was swarming with people. Terribly crowded, it was. Marche: Montblanc, what are they talking about? Montblanc: Kupo...probably about "Present Day," kupo. Marche: Present Day? Montblanc: It's the day that court audiences are granted, kupo. On that day eeevveryone goes and brings a really extravagant gift to the Court, kupo. Marche: Are you saying that we could get inside the Court? What sort of people can do this? Montblanc: Anyone who wants to can, kupo. Moreover, if you've got the proper connections, you can definitely enter the Court, kupo. Marche: Is it tough to get in if you don't have them? Montblanc: Kupokupo~. Then it becomes a match as to has the best gift, kupo. Marche: If we do, though, we'll get to see Mewt. Let's do it. Montblanc: Okay, then I'll ask Nono for help, kupo. He's really deft with working with his hands, kupo. He'll be able to make a good gift for sure, kupo. Marche: Really? Thanks, Marche!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19B) Materia Forest ff_sec19B ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marche: Hrm...all that's left to do is to give this to Nono and to do the grunt work. I wonder if this Materia [FN31] is big enough? Nono ought to be able to make something really fantastic out of this. Shaman: Hmmm...seems that the boy from the tipster's been unexpectedly useful. My, what a large piece of Materia! Assasin: It looks it would fetch a decent price. There's been such a lack of Materia Marche: You're after the Materia? Oh no... that means the kid from the tipster's is...! Shaman: Give us that Materia! [After Battle] Marche: Doned? Are you around here? Doned! It's really you! ((Doned does a cool filching move.)) Marche: You...hand that... Doned: Wow, this is really cool, Marche. Thanks for finding such a big one like this. Marche: Doned, give that back to me. Doned: I recognize this. Are you going to make Mewt a gift out of this Materia? Marche: ... Doned: What were you going to make? A "True Magic Gun"? "Calbrena"? [FN32] Spiffy. I want it, too. Marche: Give that back, already. ((Doned throws the stone to the ground, breaking it.)) Marche: Agghh! ((Marche chases after Doned.)) Marche: Doned! What do you think you're doing!? You sold information on me to bounty hunters, you shattered the Materia...! Doned: You're trying to return this world to how it was, Marche. That's why you're trying to meet Mewt. Marche: And your point? Doned: I won't let that happen... I won't let you return this world to normal! NEVER! That's why I've been stopping you. Marche: Doned...? Doned: Everything's fine for you! If the world returns to normal, you'll still have everything! You can run, you can go to school and make friends...you'll be able to do everything! Marche: ... Doned: You still don't get it. You have EVERYTHING. Don't you get how I feel!!? ((Doned runs away.)) Marche: Doned, wait!! You think I have everything? Yeah, right...don't you have something I don't, Doned? You just don't know it... you're the one who has the power to endure... ============================================================================ 20) Present Day (贈り物の日) ff_chap20 ============================================================================ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20A) The Gift ff_sec20A --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Montblanc: Marche, don't be all jittery, kupo. Act normal, kupo. Marche: Montblanc...the Court put a bounty on my head... varying the way I act is not going to work all that well. Montblanc: At best, all they know is your face, kupo. Act confident, and you won't be discovered, kupo. Marche: Moving along... Nono's great, isn't he? Even though Doned nearly destroyed the Materia, he was still was able to make an amazing gift. Montblanc: Kupopo! He's great at overcoming adversity, kupo. Marche: This "Lugae Borg" [FN33] will definitely please Mewt, too. [Inside] Marche: He's sure taking his time, isn't he? Everyone else has already been called out of here. Montblanc: Kupo...this probably means something's up, kupo. Marche: Like? Montblanc: Like if there's trouble during an audience, or maybe... ((Several guards enter.)) Montblanc: ...that your cover's blown...kupo. Temple Knight: Apprehend that boy! Montblanc: We made it all the way here, but we were still found out, kupo! Temple Knight: A good Samaritan gave us a lead that you were here! Marche: That's gotta be Doned's doing...! Temple Knight: Capture him! [After win.] Marche: We've finally managed to enter the Court. I've gotta find Mewt. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20B) And There's More Where That Came From ff_sec20B ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marche: Oh no! If this keeps up, we're had! ((Babus appears, then casts a spell.)) Marche: Babus...aren't you here to capture me? Babus: Come! I'll take you to where the Prince is. Didn't you want to meet him?! Marche: Uh, yeah. I did, but...Babus, why are you helping me? Babus: Don't misunderstand. I'm not here to help you. I want to know the Prince's wishes. I need your power. Marche: I...your power? Babus: I understand nothing about the "Other World". It's unfortunate, but I need you, you who were in the same world as him... Marche: Babus... Babus: ...we've no time. We go. ((They teleport off.)) Mewt: Babus, where did you go! Babus: I was calling on someone. Mewt: Oh...okay... Were you calling on Mama? Marche: Mewt! Mewt: Marche...! Babus, you weren't going after Mama!? You're also betraying me!? You're just like Papa! Marche: You're wrong, Mewt! Babus was only thinking about your well-being! Mewt: Yeah, so why did he bring you here in front of me if he wasn't? I said to him to kidnap you! Marche: Babus wants to find out the truth! Mewt, you're trying to run away from yourself! Mewt: Babus, spit it out! Babus: ...I heard that this world was created as an escape for you. If that's so, I think that what you feel yourself continues on in this Ivalice. Have you truly not thought about how you must face the truth, this "Other World?" Mewt: SILENCE! That's enough! Babus: Be patient a bit longer. I think I can come to understand the existence of this world. Mewt: Shaddap, shaddap! What do you know about me, huh? Babus: ...I see. While you're like this, I can't understand your sufferings. Hence, I have brought HIM here! Marche: Mewt... Mewt: Marche is okay...you're going back? There? Not me. I need this place. I DON'T want to go back, you hear me! Not to that place, never! Marche: I'm the same way. I think somewhere in my heart I've always wanted a place like this. If I hadn't, the breaking of the last Crystal would've caused the world to go back to normal. Mewt: If I go back, everyone'll bully me again! Papa'll just down sake. There'll be no magic...I'll be alone...nothing'll have changed...! Mama, why haven't you hurried back! Papa, I...I still need you, Mama... Remedi: Mama's by your side. If you wish for me, I'll always be here. ((Remedi embraces Mewt.)) Mewt: Mama, Mama...! Marche: No, Mewt! That person's not your mother! Remedi: Why are you trying to take Mewt back? That's not nice at all. Marche: I think Mewt doesn't want to escape! Babus and I are trying to help Mewt! Remedi: Aren't painful thoughts awful things? Enjoyable ones are far preferable. Marche: Don't listen to her, Mewt! Decide for yourself! Mewt: I... don't wanna go back. I wanna be with Mama. Take me away, Mama!! Remedi: I shall. Come with Mama, sweetie. I'll always be with you, Mewt. ((Mewt and Remedi vanish.)) Babus: Prince! ((Llednar appears.)) Babus: Curses, Llednar! If you're a retainer of the prince, follow the Prince and Queen! Llednar: I'm me. I wish, and I am here. Babus: You...what did you... Marche: Babus! I'll take things over here. You follow them! Babus: Cid went off on an errand. I'll leave here immediately. Until he gets here, hold out here. Cid'll come to help you. Looks like it's been decided you're going to cross swords with him. However, you're not going to be able to do so for long! Marche: Got it. I'll do my best until then. ((Babus vanishes.)) Llednar: You shall be eliminated, insect! [Endure until a certain turn!] Marche: This is just like before. Man, I'm getting a funny feeling in my stomach. You... what are you? Llednar: No matter how many times you face me, things won't change. You can't win against me. [Occasional Special Attack during the fight.] Llednar: Power of eradication, gather upon the tip of this blade! Hoist yourself to the brightest light, then plunge into the deepest darkness...Omega! [After about four or five turns.] Marche: Judge Master! You made it! Llednar: Tsk, what a shame. I thought I'd get to do it this time. ((Llednar poofs.) Cid: Is Mewt...? Marche: ((shakes his head)) Cid: I see... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20C) If You Haven't Already Guessed... ff_sec20C ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cid: ...Babus went after the two of them, didn't he? Marche: Judge Master, who on Earth is Llednar? He's an attendant like Babus, but the two of them seem to have totally different positons. How can I say it...he gives me a funny feeling in my stomach. Cid: He's Mewt. Marche: !? Cid: To put it bluntly, he's a puppet borne of Mewt's persona. He only contains Mewt's violent side, however. Marche: God... Cid: He's the same as the Divine Beasts. Llednar was created in order to protect the Crystals and Mewt. Originally, I did that, but because things are as they are now... Marche: ... Cid: I'm going to also see where Mewt went. Marche: I'm going to bow out on this one and leave it to you and Babus. In the meantime, I'm going to try to meet with my brother and my friend...Ritz. I really need to talk with those two. Cid: If I find them, I'll let you know. Marche: Thanks. ((Cid poofs off.)) Blue Mage: They say she took the Prince with her. Hunter: And the Judge Master, too? Illusionist: It didn't look like they left together from this side. Blue Mage: They didn't let anyone know what their destination was? Hunter: Nah. The Court keeps those things under tight wraps. Marche: Well, Babus and the Judge Master are looking for them for me. I better go do what I have to do... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 21B) In Search of Siblings ff_sec21B ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Triggers when you purchase the information for the next quest.) Montblanc: Marche, what's the next job, kupo? Marche: Searching for mithril ore. Montblanc: Kupokupo. You chose a huge job again, kupo. Marche: I wanted to choose a job that was really major. Montblanc: Kupo. If we find the orb, we'll really increase our fame a lot, kupo. Marche: Err, sorry. That's not the reason I picked it. The truth is that I think something like this will lure in Doned. Montblanc: Kupo? Marche: Normally, if I just said, "Let's meet up," Doned probably wouldn't show up. Montblanc: So you're trying to coerce him to actually meet up with him, kupo? Marche: If he knows I'm searching for mithril, he'll try to figure out some way to stop me for sure. Montblanc: Like when he broke the Materia, kupo. Kupopo~. That's why you chose such conspicuous work, kupo. You've changed, kupo. You've become a lot more promising from when we first met, kupo. Marche: Really? Montblanc: Kupo~. I really think so, kupo. Marche: When we were about ready to go back then, I was nervous. "What'll I do if I can't return home?" I've still got a lot of anxiety over that. However, I no longer feel the rush that I have to get home right now. Taking my time to get home is okay, too. Montblanc: Hrm, Marche. It might be better if you made up with your brother sooner rather than later, kupo. Marche: Hahaha, yeah, seriously. Let's get going. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 21C) Into the Caves ff_sec21C ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Voice: Stop, you thief! Marche: Thief!? What are you talking about!? Moogle Knight: We understand that you're trying to steal the mithril veins, kupo! Marche: But we just came here to find whether or not there WAS any mithril veins here! Sage: Don't play innocent with us! We bought the scoop on you! Marche: The scoop...? Aha, this is Doned's doing! Moogle Knight: Capture him! [After win.] Marche: Seems Doned has fallen for it. He's bound to be hiding nearby. Marche: Doned, come out! Are you here? Doned: You've always been the one who calls for me. Clever, Marche. ((Marche nods.)) Doned: ...despite you saying, "Let's go back to the real world!" I don't want to return at all. I'm different from you, Marche. You've got everything! I don't! Marche: Doned, that's not true. Doned: What's not true? You're the one who can run, right? You haven't had to enter the hospital, have you? You've got friends. You can go out and do snowball fights on snow days. You can do anything, can't you!? I came here, and I became able to do stuff. There are tons of Clans around if I want friends. I can't do so yet, but I'll be able to later participate in Engages. There's only new and exciting things to do here. Do you expect me to allow you to take that away from me!? Marche: I don't think the world returning to normal would result in those things being taken away. Doned: You're only saying that because you have everything! Marche: I don't have everything. Doned: You don't have what? What do you NOT have!? Why isn't that enough?! What do you want above all that!? [Music stop.] Marche: I couldn't ever say that I "wanted" anything! You were the only one ever allowed to say you "want" something or that something's "ewwwy"! [Restart music.] Marche: Because you always got pampered to, I couldn't say anything. I always thought to myself, "Be patient, be patient..." Doned: ... Marche: Wasn't it like that? You were the sickly one, not me. Even though Mama was always busy nursing, if I had something selfish, hell broke loose. I was envious of how you always had Mama's attention. Especially once Dad left and we moved, I was pretty much always alone at home. Doned: Marche... Marche: ...but I'm not doing this because I don't have everything. When you came here, you really happy, weren't you? I understand that. This place is really cool, because you CAN do anything. Doned: Yeah. I...I know this isn't real at all, but...but...it's fun. Running is fun. I didn't want to ever go back in that stupid wheelchair... Marche: Didn't I say earlier that I wasn't doing this so I could swipe away your ability to run? It's okay. You'll get to be able to run in the Real World...'cause I'll also help you. ((Doned hugs Marche.)) Marche: Earlier, the Judge Master said, "Mewt doesn't leave the Court." I've been mulling over where Mewt might've gone, but I'm still clueless. Doned: What about Ritz? Were you able to come into any Clan information? Marche: I haven't been able to get information on her at all thanks to all the Clan Conflicts. Doned: Phht. Can't do anything but wait after all, huh? Temple Knight: Marche? I've come with a message from Lord Cid. Marche: From the Judge Master? Did he find Mewt? Temple Knight: The Queen and Prince seem to be in Amber Valley. He said that because he wants to give tell you more details, come to the Deetey Plains. Marche: Deetey Plains? The Judge Master's there? Temple Knight: Yes. Marche: Got it. I'll be there as soon as possible. Doned: Amber Valley...I think that place is also called the Royal Valley. Marche: Do you know where this is, Doned? Doned: It's the prettiest place here in Ivalice, they say. It's said that there's a palace there that belonged to an ancient king. Thus, it's called the Royal Valley. Marche: The Royal Valley... Doned: If you're going, go quickly. The Judge Master's waiting. Take care. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 22B) Deetey Plains ff_sec22B ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marche: This looks bad, but we've got to hurry to Amber Valley. I had something I had to do first...someone I had to meet with. Marche, I have a favor to ask of you. Marche: What is it. Cid: I want you to go to Sienna Gorge and find some amber. Marche: Amber? Cid: It's an order from the Brilliant Ezel. He's going to craft it into a powerful Anti-Law. Marche: An Anti-Law...you're going to use it? Cid: I believe it will be necessary in Amber Valley. Marche: ...will you be okay? A Judge Master neutralizing laws... Cid: I am prepared for the possible censure. Marche: All right. I'll go and look. Cid: I'll head off as well. I'll meet you again there. Shara: It seems like Marche is going to Sienna Gorge. Ritz, what should we do? Follow them? If I'd ever thought of him back then as being someone who could confront and fight someone, I would've thought it hilarious. Shara: He's not bullied any more, is he? Ritz: No, he sure isn't. Not at all... Marche: Ritz. Ritz: You finally became one. Marche: Ritz, I... Ritz: Stop your story there. This is as far as you're going to go, Marche. I'm not going to withdraw. Marche: Neither am I, Ritz. I have to see Mewt, so I'm going to cross through this valley. [Select Allies] Ritz: Let's go, Shara! Shara: ((nods)) [Shara's First Turn] Shara: Ritz, we don't have to do this. You don't have to stay here. Ritz: It's all right. I'm not going to be made into a liar. We're going to stay here until the end. Shara: If that's the case, so be it. If that's how you've decided. Sorry for asking so much. I'll stay silent. [Marche's First Turn] Marche: Ritz, from the start you've stated you have no desire to return home. Ritz: Sort of. Don't all games have to come to an end, though? The game's fun ends after a while. However, my wanting it not to end is another story entirely. Marche: I understand where you're coming from, Ritz. Ritz: I want to do everything that I can here. Even though you're gung-ho about returning the world to normal, I oppose it. I don't want to have any regrets. Marche: Ritz! Will you hate me if the world returns to normal? Ritz: ...no, I won't. I don't think what you're trying to do is wrong. I just think that I want to stay here. ((Marche leaves.)) Ritz: He'll return the world to normal, won't he. Shara: You think so? Ritz: He's changed a lot...I think he'll definitely do it. But me... I haven't able to change like him at all. Cid: This was built as a symbol of the previous prosperity and peace of the Kingdom of Ivalice. It's probably more accurate to say that this was a sanctuary rather than a separate palace. Marche: Mewt's gotta be here... ((They walk forward, and see Babus's body before them.)) Marche: Babus! What the heck happened! Answer me! Voice: He's not dead. But his life remains by only by a thread. Marche: Llednar... Cid: We came to meet the Queen and Mewt. Let us pass. Llednar: I'm under orders not to let the Judge Master go forward from here. Cid: Marche, what shall we do? Marche: ...I'm going. I want to get to Mewt ASAP. Cid: I see...then I shall lend you a hand to achieve that task. Marche: Judge Master, that card... Cid: It seems that bringing that card was a good idea indeed. If I use this, Llednar will be brought down to our level. Oh, Law that protects Llednar's body...BEGONE!! Llednar: What was that? This card... Cid: The Law granted by the Queen, "Fortune", has been neutralized. It seems that you're no longer invincible. Llednar: ...this is not good. If only that accursed Judge wasn't here, you'd be toast. [Llednar's Initial Turn] Llednar: What a pest. Even though you're weak, you stroll about as if you own this place. You are an eyesore. Marche: This is Mewt...? Cid: Yes. But it's only the violent side of his personality. Llednar: I won't be defeated. I will stick to my orders. Marche: Who gives you your orders? The Queen? Mewt? You think, "I got it!" but in truth you obtained not one thing. Aren't you able to accept that? ...No, you still desire something. A household without fights, where your parents love each other deeply...and to have power. That is who you are in this world... that is your real identity. Am I wrong? Marche: I certainly did desire those things... but that's not who I am. Remedi: Mewt, what do you want to do, sweetie? Mama's on your side. I'll do whatever you ask of me for you. Voice of Mewt: Mama...I... Marche: Mewt, where are you!? ((Mewt materializes in the statue's hand.)) Cid: MEWT!! Remedi: Do you want Mama to go away, Mewt? Voice of Mewt: No...noooo... I don't wanna leave you, Mamaaaa...I don't wanna be alone... ((Mewt vanishes.)) Marche: MEWT! Remedi: Stand down. This is Mewt's wish. ((Remedi goes into battle gear.)) Cid: Remedi... are you the expression of Mewt's will? Remedi: I am she who materializes desires. I exist because of Mewt's strong desire to have me here. They still exist, however faintly. Marche: I... I can't argue with a thing you've saying. However, don't expect to be able to escape into those hopes. Get lost!!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 24D) Le Grimoire (リィ・グリモア) ff_sec24D ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Remedi: Mewt... ((Mewt reappears.)) Marche: Mewt, it's me! I came here to see you! Cid: Mewt!! Mewt: I don't wanna be bullied... hold on, Papa... Mama, I don't wanna be alone... Marche: Mewt! Let me be your strength, Mewt! [FN34] Let's go home together, Mewt! Mewt: I hear you [FN35]... you're saying, "Let's go home together!" But I still want...if I start thinking like you, the world'll...! Remedi: I shall gather these desires and express them all. When this world was originally wished for, that power drove that world into this one. ((Remedi is engulfed in a flash of white light. In her place is left a blue crystal floatie thingie.)) Marche: That freakish thing is...? Cid: That is no longer Remedi. It's the symbol of both escaping and wishes. Perhaps...this world is the composite creation of every person's wishes and intentions. [FN36] Marche: A composite of all the world's wishes...if we destroy that, we can return to the real world...! [Certain turn of Marche's - maybe only if you revive him in battle or when you get Remedi past half her HP?] Marche: Mewt! Open your eyes, Mewt! I can't do this by myself! If you don't help me on this, destroying her is meaningless! Mewt: ...Marche....? Marche: Mewt! Can you hear me? Mewt: Marche... I... return... Marche: MEWT!! [After defeating Remedi.] Mewt: Mama... ((Remedi vanishes, then so does Mewt.)) Marche: MEWT!!! ============================================================================ ENDING ff_ending ============================================================================ [Shara and Ritz travel across some of the plains of Ivalice.] Shara: Snow. Here...? Ritz: I guess the world's trying to return to normal. The day the world changed, it snowed like this, too. Looks like Marche pulled it off after all. Shara: Is that all right? Ritz: Uh, what do you mean by, "Is that all right?" Shara: The world's returning to normal. You're still gloomy. Ritz: I can't just dispel those feelings with a wave of someone's hand. I really... I really don't want to lose my hair being like this. Shara: So it's bad to have white hair? Ritz: I didn't say that! Shara: My hair is white as well. Did you think that my hair is strange? Ritz: Shara...no, I didn't. I think Vieran hair is absolutely gorgeous. But, you know, I'm different from the rest of your friends... I'm human. Shara: Then you are favored by the Vieran spirits. White is the most beautiful color bestowed by them, because it's the best. Ritz: White is...pretty? The best color? Shara: Other people do not have it. You're the only one that was given it, specially. That has to be it. You were chosen by the spirits. Ritz: ...is that a bad thing? Shara: You'll be fine. It means that you also possess a great strength. I know that for sure. On top of that, if you laugh, your mother no longer has a sad expression on her face. When you were sad, so was your mother. That's what I think, anyways. Ritz: Shara.... Shara: I want to see your hair's REAL color. It must be as white as that snow. I doubt that even a Vieran has prettier hair than you. [FN37] Ritz: ...thank you. I think I'm ready to return now. [Outside of the Amber Valley Palace] Babus: Lord Cid! The prince...he's not with you? Marche: He vanished...just like that. Babus: WHAT!?!?! What is that supposed to mean!! Cid: Calm yourself, Babus. Yelling at Marche is not going to change things. Remedy...no, Mewt's desires seems to have caused him to vanish. *** Babus: ...Prince...however, this world is still here. If that's the case, shouldn't the Prince be nearby...!? Voice of Mewt: Babus...Papa, Marche...I'm going there now... Babus: Prince! Mewt: You were worried about me, Babus? I'm still okay. Babus: Prince... Mewt: ...I said farewell to Mama...I said I had to go back. Mama said she's gonna leave my upbringing to you, Dad... Cid: I see... Mewt: Marche, I... Marche: You wanna return together? Mewt: Marche... Marche: There's no need to hurry. I understand that your Mom's really important to you. Don't get worked up and just take your time. I'm in a similar fix. Mewt: Okay. Marche: Just like when we came here, we'll be sent back in no time flat. Mewt: Yeah, seriously... Marche: We can't even say "goodbye" to everyone, or even "thanks". Montblanc: Kupoooo. Leave that to me, kupo! I'll convey that in your place, kupo! Marche: Thank you, Montblanc! My getting this far is all thanks to you! Mewt: I'm afraid I'll come to forget you, Babus...even though you were the one who always thought about me before anything else. Babus: Even if you forget me, I'll always remember you. I'm your retainer, after all. Mewt: Babus... thank you. If we return home... will this Ivalice vanish forever? Marche: ... Cid: Hmmm. We wished it, and this world changed, and now because we desire it, this world will return to how it was. If this world's masters wanted this world to continue, it wouldn't necessarily do so. Cid: We probably won't be able to set foot here again. However, perhaps Babus and Montblanc and everyone shall continue to live on... Mewt: Yeah. They probably won't go away, will they, Papa? Marche: Farewell, this other Ivalice. Farewell... everyone. [In the bar.] Nono: Why, kupo? Doned: I gotta go. Bye-bye, guys! It was fun! [On the Streets of St. Ivalice.] Girl: Wow, Ritz, your hair is really as pure white as snow. Didn't you dye it before? Ritz: If my mood changes, I'll probably dye it again. What do you think about green-colored hair? Girl: Heee, eww, no! This time, let's just leave that as is. Cid: Don't you want to drop in for a bit? Man in Green: Eh? Randell, didn't you say earlier you'd stop drinking? You said it was because your kid'd get upset if you did. Cid: Hah, he'll overlook one drink for a man coming home from work. But that's as far as I'll go. [Hospital Courtyard] Boy: Doned, did you finish Final Fantasy? How do you beat Adrammelech? Doned: You should use Mindbreak and Two Swords against him. Show me your save. I'll show you a good combo to use against him. Boy: Sure. I've got pretty much all the abilities. [Outside school.] Lyle: Eh? Marche: Mewt, are you okay? Mewt: Yeah, I'm fine. Guinness: Aww, isn't the new kid being nice? Corin: He's sooo sweeeet. Marche: My name's Marche. Get it into your heads. Do you need me to say it one more time for it to get through your thick skulls? Guinness: Huh. Corin: You, you... Mewt: Hey, Mewt. If we... ((Mewt and Marche make snowballs and throw them at the three boys.)) Corin: Aagggh. Guinness: He, hey! Lyle, Corin! Mewt: Later, guys. See you at school tomorrow. Marche: Let's go home, Mewt. ~~~~~~~~~~THE END~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ============================================================================ Miscellaneous Quests ff_chapXX ============================================================================ ------------------------------------------------------- 25) Follow the Fugitive! [After the Battle] Lead (B): Did you really expect to defeat us quickly with that degree of force? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Footnotes ff_foot =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- After reading so many works in translation in college, I feel it tantamount to sacrilege to not include a set of footnotes in my own translations. As I noted at the beginning of this guide, no translation is ever perfect. I know for a fact that things I say here are going to be totally different from how they'll eventually be translated, partially because of errors from my end, errors from their end (anyone remember the original FFT?), and just different takes on different words. To help combat that, here are my reasons for translating certain things certain ways, and just some cool notes about some of the things that ended up getting lost in translation. FN01) Prelude A - Lyle with newcomers. When Lyle says this, he actually says, "What it'll be, transfer student?" FN02) Prelude A - Ritz In this section, Ritz uses the Japanese loanword "sekuhara", which is an incredibly in-vogue Japanese abbreviation for sexual harassment. This rolls off the tongues of American children with ease, but for a Japanese girl of Ritz's age to use this shows a bit of precociousness - it has much the same know-it-all pow as a kid using Latin terms. She then follows up with "josei besshi", another ridiculously hard, native Japanese phrase that means "derision of women". FN03) Prelude D - Mr. Radiuju It becomes somewhat clearer during the course of the game, but since they do say it flat out in volume 1 of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance's Radio Edition in a similar scene here, I'll say as much here - Marche's and Doned's parents are divorced. FN04) Chapter 0A - The Banga Race Banga could be translated as either Vanga or Banga, since Japanese uses the B sound due to the absence of 'v' in their native language. All official Square material that I've seen so far, however, indicate that 'Banga' will be the official English version. Personally, I like my friend Rob's translation: "Bangers". FN05) Chapter 0A - "Moogles" For the record, Moogles in Japanese are known as Mogri, Mogli, or Moguri, depending on what mood the transliterator is. The 'Mogli' translation appeared in FFT as one of the Summoner spells. The Moogles in FFTA continue with the fine Moogle tradition of 'kupo'ing everything. I for one, before I learned any Japanese, thought Square was trying to make the Moogles like the Smurfs. I wasn't too far off. Kupo is used as a final polite emphasis particle, and it's also used as an all-purpose exclamation. I was not trying to be deliberately annoying with all the kupos. Montblanc really does say, "Kupo!" at the end of virtually every sentence, kupo. FN06) Chapter 0A - Rune (the Banga) I had SUCH a hard time resisiting translating Rune's "You're a soldier, aincha?" to "You're SOLDIER, aincha?" Regardless, Rune is merely referring to the Soldier profession, and not the elite fighting force from FFVII. :> FN07) Chapter 0A - "Engage" and its ilk. The words "Engage", "Law", and "Judge" are all direct transfers from English, instead of using their native Japanese equivalents (tatakau, houritsu, and saibankan). This is done to give the concepts a cool, exotic flavor. To emphasize their importance, these words will always be capitalized throughout the text. FN08) Chapter 0D - "I" Any introductory student in Japanese knows that the Japanese use a variety of words to express the word 'I', and the characters in FFTA are no exception. Ritz, a young girl, uses "atashi"; Marche sticks with the young male variant "boku". The Divine Beasts in the Game usually refer to themselves as "ware", which is about as old-fashioned and archaic as you can get. Moogles refer to themselves in the FF exclusive version, "mogu", as in the following made up example: モグ は かわいい モーグリ、クポ~! Mogu wa kawaii mohguri, kupo! = I am a cute moogle! Do NOT use this word yourself in actual speech - I am dead serious when I say that only Moogles in FF use it. It was made up deliberately for Moogles. The Japanese will think you are a complete and utter idiot if you do use it in actual conversation. FN09) Chapter 0D - Games No, Montblanc isn't being totally stupid. There are two different words in Japanese being used here in this passage, and both really deserve to be translated as 'game' in this context. One is a loanword from English, geemu, and the other is a native Japanese word, omocha, which is much closer to 'plaything' or 'toy' otherwise. In this passage, 'game' means any such toy, and video game refers to, well, video games! FN10) Chapter 4B - The Court The Court, or kyuutei, could also be translated as 'palace', but I opted for this translation because of the word's association with law and judges, which play very heavily with the Royal Family in FFTA. FN11) Chapter 4B - Crystals Again, another example of those pesky Square writers using both a Japanese loanword from English (kurisutaru) and a native Japanese word (kesshou) to express one concept - crystals. When Montblanc mentions it in the footnote, he's referring to the native Japanese kesshou to explain to Marche what a kurisutaru is. Every other incidence of crystal in this passage uses the loanword. FN12) Chapter 5B - Formality Level As alluded to in footnote #6, the Divine Beasts in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance take archaic Japanese and run with it. The only time I've ever heard anyone speak like they do in real life here are the politicians in the Diet when they're making grandiose, formalized statements (which, as of this writing on March 19th, 2003, they're doing quite a lot of on NHK given the upcoming war in Iraq). I have tried to portray that here with the use of thees, thous, the Queen's 'We', and heavy usage of the passive tense, but I probably screwed up on the Elizabethan English front. o_0 Sorry to all of you genuine English teachers out there. FN13) Chapter 5B - Point(s) of Binding Wow. THIS was a real PITA to find a decent translation to. The original Japanese was "kusabi no hikari". I could've translated this as 'the light of the link', 'the light of the wedge', or 'the light of the linchpin', but all of them sound incredibly... dumb. The concept that 'kusabi' expresses is a pivotal something that keeps two or more things together. Expect something TOTALLY different to be used here in the English edition of the game. FN14) Chapter 5A - No, Marche is Not a Pansy. Marche starts off this line speaking a bit unconfidently, but he rediscovers his moxy towards the end, which comes off a lot more clearly in the original Japanese text. FN15) Chapter 5A - Marche's Reflection. In case it isn't clear, Marche is having a long conversation with himself, then immediately after the footnote marker, goes into a vocal declaration to Famfreet. FN16) Chapter 5C - Mewt's Inner Child. Mewt initially has more of an internal dialogue with himself, then moves to an outer one immediately with Cid after his 'oho'. He realizes that he's no longer in Ivalice here. Took him a goodly bit of time to come around, didn't it, compared to Ritz and Marche. FN17) Chapter 6A - The Queen I took a lot of liberty here with the original text. The Japanese here literally translated to, "The queen is also out of sorts, isn't she?" but that sounded way too... prissy. FN18) Chapter 10 - Mewt Wanted What? Here, Marche literally says, "Mewt hoped that this would become a Video Game world." I decided to take some editorial liberties with that; Babus would hear the 'world of Final Fantasy' as the same amount of gibberish as 'geemu no sekai'. FN19) Chapter 11 - Babus Actually, Babus says here, "The Prince is worried." FN20) Chapter 12A - Terms of Respect Removed from the translation since an exact equivalent does not exist in English was what Nono called Montblanc: Montblanc-niisan, or Big Brother Montblanc. Two lines later, he uses simply Niisan, so I did remain faithful to the original Japanese text there. FN21) Chapter 12A - Yakuto I've kept it as 'Yakuto' here, that being a direct romanization of the original Japanese kana, but in AstroBlue's FFT-A guide, he refers to the Yakuto as the Jagd, which is German for 'hunt'. Considering the Yakuto areas are totally lawless, this seems closely appropriate. FN22) Chapter 12B - The Unwimpification of Marche Literally translated, Marche says here, "We will not go [back]! It's your fault that our friend is troubled!" Look at troubled as 'in trouble', not as Nono being mentally deranged. I spruced up the text here into its present version for what should be obvious reasons. Likewise, the previous line originally read "otonashiku kaeru n da na!" or "Return quietly now!" FN23) Chapter 12B - Random Silly Stuff from Me. FFT Propositions: "I got a good feeling!" FN24) Chapter 14B - Shara It's reassuring to see that the other characters in the game aren't taking Ritz's pubescent whines about the hair on her head very seriously. It's interesting to note that while the game always shows Ritz as a redhead, in the commercial for FFTA that aired in Japan, the actress depicting Ritz wore a white wig. FN25) Chapter 14C - Mewt I pull no punches on how whiny Mewt is here, either. FN26) Chapter 15A - Ezel Ezel calls Marche, more accurately, "Mr. Celebrity", but as celebrity usually has a fairly positive connotation, I went with a word that more accurately reflects the fact Marche has a big fat bounty on his head. FN27) Chapter 15E - "Mr. Randell" In the original Japanese text, Marche doesn't refer to Cid by this at all, but I figured that if he was trying to get Cid's attention, he would be more likely to use this instead of by going, "Hey, Mewt's Dad!" as he actually does in the second incidence of this particular footnote in the text. FN28) Chapter 16B - Llednar Twem For anyone who doubts the authenticity of this anglicization of his name, recall Square's obsession with reversing and anagramming phrases throughout the Final Fantasy series. First were the brooms in Matoya's Cave in FFI, then there were the gravestones in Daryll's tomb in FFVI, and most recently the total rearrangement of Japanese syllables seen in the Song of the Fayth in FFX. I'm probably forgetting about two or three other incidents of this sort, but I'm sure someone will e-mail me to clue me in on them. Many kudos to Mike Sacco for letting me know about that 'feature' in Llednar's name. FN29) Chapter 18A - Llednar's Borg Impression. Yes, I know that the Star Trek-esque RPG series is Star Ocean, not Final Fantasy, but the original Japanese's curtness and Llednar's general manner just reminded me of the Borg from Star Trek. Llednar says, "Omae wa inakunare," to Marche, which, when literally translated, means something like, "You will be no more." This, frankly, fails to inspire anything other than laughter in English. For those five of you who don't know who the Borg are, the Borg is an alien race of cyborgs seeking to assimilate every life form in the galaxy... or kill them off if they don't want to join in. Resistance being futile and all that, you see. Llednar, possessed of a one-track mind, would fit rather neatly into the Borg mold. FN30) Chapter 18A - Sephiroth Jr. Originally, Llednar says, "You. Vanish." FN31) Chapter 19B - Materia Materia, for those of you who didn't play Final Fantasy VII, is a magical substance that endows its user with magical powers. The original Japanese in FFTA - I haven't played FFVII in Japanese to see if they do the same there - has Marche saying "materia shouseki". Shouseki, in this case, is a made-up kanji compound using the 'shou' in suishou (crystal) and stone, seki, which roughly translates to a sparkly crystal. Normally, shouseki would mean saltpeter. I chose to just render this as 'Materia'. FN32) Chapter 19B - Gifts Aplenty from FFT Calbrena, or Kalkobrina as they were called in Japanese, are the little dolls you fight behind the Dwarf King's throne before you fight Golbez in FFIV. This is fairly correctly rendered in the English language version of FFT as Calcobrina. The Machine Gun was a random item you could pick up during a random proposition in the original Final Fantasy Tactics. It was translated in FFT as M. Machinegun in an attempt by the translators to reflect the pun in the original Japanese. The item name is written entirely in katakana (phoenetically) save for the first character, which is written with the kanji 'ma' from 'mahou', magic. So, the item is a 'magic' machine gun. FN33) Chapter 20A - Lugae Borg Dr. Lugae was the name of a character in Final Fantasy IV who opposed Cecil et al in the Tower of Babil. He was very fond of robots. After you beat up upon his robot, Balnab, he turns into a cyborg - Lugae Borg, rendered in the PSX version of FFIV as "Lugaborg." The Lugae Borg also appears in the original FFT as an item you can get in propositions, but like so many things in that game, it was mistranslated as "Yurgeivogue", which obviously doesn't even come close. FN34) Chapter 24D - "Earth to Mewt": Marche A closer and even hokier translation would be "I will become your strength, Mewt." FN35) Chapter 24D - Mewt There was no way to put this in brief in English and prevent Mewt from sounding like a bad actor. What Mewt says here is closer to "I, who am always alone, understand." FN36) Chapter 24D - Cid on Remedi I strongly suspect that this is a vague reference to the speeches your characters give right before the fight with Lavos's Core in Chrono Trigger (Lavos has the features/DNA of every creature ever created, etc.). Not having a copy of the original Japanese text, though, I can't verify it. FN37) Ending - Yet another random comment. WHY couldn't Shara have said this back in Chapter 14B?! ARRGGGHHH. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Old Version Notes ff_ver =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- v0.90 - 05/05/2003 - Added in Chapters 21 & 22. - Re-kupo'fied more of Montblanc's text. - Note - it will be a bit before the complete storyline version 1.00 is out. Why? Three words - Ending Text Scrolling. The rate at which the text windows cycle in and out during the ending has absolutely no correspondence whatsoever to what's actually inside said windows, so it's going to take me a few times of beating the game to manage to scribble down the entirety of the final game text. Blessedly, the ending's short, so it should only take three or four times through... theoretically, anyways. v0.82 - 05/01/2003 - Added in Chapters 19 & 20. - Inserted a couple of footnotes out of order. These are designated with letters instead of numbers. After version 1.00 is released, the footnote numbers will be rectified. - Small revisions to the Introduction section. - Re-kupo'fied some of Montblanc's text. - Changed Altima to 'Ultima', as this seems to be the official transcription that will be used by Square-Enix for that enemy, judging by the FFTA: Radio Edition's liner notes. - More minor tweaks in the text. v0.75 - 04/25/2003 - Added in Chapters 17 & 18. - Corrected Llednar's name from Lledonar to Llednar. v0.66 - 04/17/2003 - Added in Chapter 15 & 16.
