Pokemon Gold/Silver FAQ Version 3.4 by Joji Halim - Pidgeot76@hotmail.com Last Update: 1/05/00 (People's Republic of China Date) ++++++++++++++++++++++ Welcome to my first attempt at FAQ writing. This is a walkthrough for the game in Japanese right now, Pokemon Gold/Silver. As you know, Pokemon Gold/Silver are the Gold/Silver versions of the game, Pokemon (Duhh...). There's a total of 251 Pokemon in here, although you can't catch _THAT_ much. Also, this walkthrough's based on Gold. The latest revision of this walkthrough can be found at: - GameFAQs: http://www.gamefaqs.com/ - About.com VG Strategies: http://vgstrategies.about.com/ ++++++++++++++++++++++ Contents I. Revision History II. Changes from Red/Blue/Yellow IIb. Pokedex III. Differences from Gold/Silver IV. Walkthrough V. Item List VI. Miscellany VII. Move List VIII. Rumors IX. 3 Legendary ???? Pokemon X. Disclaimer XI. Credits XII. Black List! +++++++++++++++++++++ I. Revision History Version 3.5 (3/05/00) -The lady is a reporter. You know, the one that comes at the end of the game. Thanks to DiasSR388@aol.com. And I got several more mails on that one... did it really matter? -Some more corrections, this time from jokerman5000@yahoo.com. o The 5 questions for the Radio. It's YES, YES, NO, YES, NO o There's 4 puzzles in the Unknown alien dungeon, with the 16 tile puzzles. There's a Houou one, and an Aerodactyl that I mistook for a Charizard (well, they do look alike) o To get the 6th Gym leader (Steel Onix), you'll have to talk to her then go to the 5th city and get some medicine or something, then go talk to her again. o Koga's apprentice is actually Koga's sister. o How to get the train station to work. Go talk to the Pokemon Fan Club guy that gives you the bike ticket in Red/Blue/Yellow. Then afterwards go talk to the man beside the Clefairy, and he'll give you a Clefairy Doll. Give the doll to the Mimic Kid in Saffron City to get a train ticket that leads to the 3rd gym city. Version 3.3 (1/05/00) -FINALLY pulled off an update, almost 3 months of no update, actually. Been ignoring my mail. -Yes, for those of you wondering why I changed the date to People's Republic of China, I moved. -Some corrections here and there, from MaGoo720@cs.com: o Small Hitmonchan/Lee IS a different pokemon. Geez, did my way of calling it make you think that it's Hitmonchan? o Added some ????s to the Pokemon. The main reason why I didn't put them in is because 1) I didn't want to put in a japanese name and 2) because of lack of knowledge of any names. -Added how to get an Eevee, in Milktank Gym City. Thanks to the above person. -Some wiseguy (no offense) named Phil Nicholls told me a few stuff: o It isn't your mother that comes when you win vs. Lance. Sure, so I'm playing the game on a Gameboy Pocket. o Steel Onix is weak against fire. For no apparent, logical reason (like why birds are weak to electric when all they do is fly high? If they stay low then they would be as resilient as fire or grass elementals). o That Lugia isn't in the Ash Cave. Oh goody. o That the Oil tower is actually a radio tower. o That Pidgeot sucked bad. Well I went half-berserk and broke the left computer speaker. Thanks a lot. -Been playing too much Star Ocean: The Second Story lately, so no Pokemon in the house. Probably one last update in May 31, my birthday (also smoke-free day or something). -Steve Kenaga can't find Houou. Man, I'm tired of that stuff. Go ask Donphan. Go ask Lickitung. Go consult another FAQ. No, just kidding, anybody help? -Started the Black list! Version 2.5 (9/02/00) -The 3 Pokemon sold in Celadon's Coin Exchange are Mr. Mime, Eevee and Porygon for 3333, 6666 and 9999 respectively. -Added some general Info. about the Pokedex (Dex for short) -Is it just me or does Gary's GYM looks like it's made out of LEGO and almost nothing else? -Hotmail was down yesterday so I couldn't send in my FAQ :( Version 2.2 (7/02/00) -New info about Pichu, thanks to vjmv (vjmv@mpx.com.au). It evolves at around Lv 55. -BIG things discovered thanks to Hammy Hamster (sir_hammy64@yahoo.com): o Magmars. They can be caught around the place where the three legendary 'cat' Pokemon appear after they shuffle off. o Pikachus. They can be caught in the remains of Viridian Forest. o Foot Prints. The symbol in the Pokedex beside the Pokemon are their foot prints. o Aerodactyl. To get Aerodactyl, go east of Fuschia City, and catch a Chansey. Then, go farther left, and up. You'll see a guy standing next to a cutable bush. Beat him up, and then go in the grass patch. There, a girl will trade you her Aerodactyl for your Chansey. -Almost ALL of the TM names thanks to Dinng@aol.com. Also a new name for Joker Death :) -TM 50 is NOT Substitute :( Okay, so I admit I was just re-calling the TM names from Blue/Red, but so? Version 2.1 (5/02/00) -First update in a long time (2 months, to be exact). SORRY for the late update. -The Poison ?????? item is the Poison Nut/Antidote Nut. Thanks to Yadira Camacho (ycamacho@reacciun.ve). -TM 08: Cracked Rock breaker. I know you'll have found it in Donphan's Gold/Silver Walkthrough. -Started up the RUMORS section. -Note: THERE ARE NO SHOPS THAT SELL STONES in the city with the third gym. You'll have to go to this guy in the city where you fight the leader with Steel Onix. Show him certain Pokemon and you'll get certain stones... I've done it with my Vulpix and got something (Probably a Magikarp). -Revamped certain strategies. -I got an EEVEE!!! I got it for 6,666 (Ooo) coins in the Cow Gym City Game corner. -Added 3 Legendary ???? section. -A few additions here and there. Version 1.3 (5/12/99) -Added how to get the Itemfinder, coutesy of dennisctp@hotmail.com. He also found Lugia in one of the Sea Caverns... -I've revised the walkthrough a little, plus fixed the breeding info. Also I've added more Breeding combinations. Version 1.0 (3/12/99) -Okay, dennisctp@hotmail.com told me a LOT of info on: o Hand Phone o Mother's Question o More Breeding Info o Radio -Found out about the Togepi Egg. -Added more items to the Item List. -Started Move List!! There's also Attack Power, because the game actually tells you the attack power!!!!!! -Added the Challenge Building in the miscellany Check them out in the miscellany and walkthrough section. Version 0.8 (2/12/99) -PowerZombie9000@aol.com and Paul9950@aol.com asked me how to get the Radio. Well, I don't remember getting it, because I never really bothered looking at the 'Time' menu. Can somebody help me?! -Many thanks to RyuujinNeo@aol.com and JLVegeta@aol.com for information on Breeding and the 9999 item, although both is unconfirmed. -ALL E-MAIL ASKING WHERE THEY COULD GET A ROM WILL BE DELETED. -Revised the walkthrough a little. -Added more Items to the item list. -Does anyone know how to get something to smash the cracked rocks? Version 0.3 (1/12/99) -FINISHED THE WALKTHROUGH!! -Started the Item List Version 0.1 (30/11/99) -First Release. +++++++++++++++++++++ II. Changes from Red/Blue/Yellow -The Pokemon have been re-drawn again (But IMHO, the ones in Yellow look better). -The world's TWICE as big. -There's another world, connecting to the Old World (Pokemon 1). -The Trainers have been re-drawn too. -The Trainers have different Eyesight AI: some of them will spin around and if you cross their line of sight while they're spinning, you'll have to fight. -251 Pokemon. IIb. The Pokedex If you press SELECT you can choose from: THE NEW ORDER THE OLD ORDER Also if you press START you can SEARCH for Pokemon. Choose its first and second type and it'll list up all the Pokemon that match under that category (With the Slowpoke reading a book icon). +++++++++++++++++++++ IIb. Differences from Gold/Silver -The Pokemon look different than in the other version. -The default names are different than the ones in the other version. +++++++++++++++++++++ III. Walkthrough The game starts with a lot of .... and then it asks you to set the clock: There's the times: Morning, Daytime, Evening and Nighttime. NOTE: The FAQ made by Lickitung says that you can choose to be a guy or girl. Can somebody confirm this?! ********************************************************************* CONFIRMED!! Actually, Lickitung got a Proto-type version of the game that allows you to choose whether to be a guy or a girl. Problem is, if you choose girl, the game crashes. Hope that clears up any confusion!! ********************************************************************* Afterwards, Prof. Oak will give you his lecture on Pokemon, showing a Pikablu/Marril. Afterwards, you can name your character. For Convenience's Sake, I'll call him Silver and your rival Gold, although I won't be using much of them. You'll start in your room. The PC can't be really used right now (As there's no Potion inside). Just head down, and meet your mom. She'll give you 2 things and open up a new command in the menu. The 2 things appear in those two menus. The first one looks like a U-turn sign, and the second one looks like a cellphone. NOTE: Throughout the game you'll be pestered with NUMEROUS phonecalls. This is really annoying, too. Also, she lets you choose a few things - I don't know what they do, so... She's actually asking what day it is, Monday thru Sunday. I dunno what it does though. Leave your house, and go to the professor's lab (It's the one beside your house - there's a guy beside it facing right). You can choose a Pokemon as your starting: A Fire, Grass or Water-type. Choose whichever you want - it doesn't really matter. Afterwards, try to leave and an Aide will give you a free Potion. You're now free to explore the route west of town. You'll find Pidgeys, Rattatas, Squirrels in the daytime, and Rattatas and Owls nighttime. Get your starting Pokemon up to about Lv10, then go back to the professor's lab and heal your Pokemon. Then, make it across the route and then heal your pokemon again if needed. Then, talk to the old man and he'll give you a short tour of the town and more importantly - The World Map, which can be viewed in the new command that your mom gave. Afterwards, go north and you'll find: Caterpies, Metapods and Bellsprouts in the daytime and Spiders in the nighttime. Get to the house on the north end, and you'll meet Professor Oak, which will give you your Pokedex, which looks worse than the one in the Blue/Red versions. Afterwards, he leaves and the other guy lets you rest for a while. Afterwards go back to the starting place and in the way, your Rival (Named as ??? right now) will show up and battle you. TRAINER- Gold (Rival) POKEMON- The one strong against you This is easy, especially if you got your Pokemon up to a higher Lv than her's. Just use an offensive attack, and it'll go down in no time and you get quite a lot of Exp. Afterwards, your rival leaves. Head back to the starting place, and talk to the Police (Looks like a bellboy). You get to name your Rival, and then when you leave the Professor's Aide gives you 5 Pokeballs to use. Also, Pokeballs show up in all the shops for you to buy. Get to the route and capture a Pidgey and Squirrel. Pidgey, IMHO, evolves into Pidgeotto and then Pidgeot, my *favourite* and *best* Pokemon in the game (In My Humble Opinion)... If you use it like 90% of the game, it can waste the Elite Four if coupled up with a few Revives and about 10 HyperPotions. Anyways, get your Pidgey up to Lv10 and the Squirrel about Lv7 (For an easier time raising levels, try the bait and switch method on the route with the house with Oak, and do the switch if it isn't a Metapod. If it is, then let your weak Pokemon waste it). The two boys fighting with their Pokemon (conveniently blocking the road) are gone now, but they're up for another fight with you! Also, be careful with spinning trainers. The trainers here have mostly Lv2 Pokemon so you won't have any trouble at all... Anyways, when you reach the next town, you should heal up your Pokemon and then beat up the Gym Members, but NOT the Gym Leader (Especially if you're not at least Lv13). Instead, go fight all the trainers in previous routes and go to the Pagoda Tower in town. The Bellsprouts there can be easily defeated with Pidgey's Gust/Whirlwind attack in one shot - A great opportunity to level up! Once you reach the top, Gold will be beating up a Monk. When she sees you, she'll leave. Talk to him afterwards and he'll challenge you to a match, and when you win you'll get your copy of HM 05, Flash. You won't probably have a Pokemon suitable for it yet, though. Get back to the gym. The leader here (I'll call him Leader 1) uses Pidgey and Pidgeotto (yay!): TRAINER- Leader 1 POKEMON- Pidgey, Pidgeotto Pidgey should be able to storm through them with Gust. The only thing in my mind left is, How was he able to evolve Pidgey so early, and 2, how on earth can a Pidgey use TACKLE?! After defeating him, you get your first Badge (looks like a pair of wings) and TM 31. The TM contains a technique that spits out black stuff - it's pretty weak, so don't waste your time on it. Afterwards, if you haven't done the Tower quest yet, do so, and afterwards heal up your Pokemon. Also, there's a professor's Aide in the Pokemon Center, by the counter. If you have 5 or less Pokemon, he'll give you an Egg. This Egg can't be used for a while and counts as a KO'ed Pokemon. After a while this egg hatches into Togepi! Looks like you need around 2,000 steps for it to hatch. You'll be open with two choices: Go left, then south to the Egypt Maze, or go directly south. I recommend going left then south if you want to catch one new Pokemon (that can only be captured there). There's three Puzzles: A Kabuto one, a Charizard one and an Omanyte one. They all lead to the same room, so I don't get the point of solving all three Puzzles. The Puzzle's like a Jigsaw puzzle... Move the pieces to make the picture clear. Afterwards, go south (it was blocked earlier) and then enter the short Tunnel. There's one good item here - it's TM 39, which teaches Swift. It's good, so use it on Pidgey (May have evolved into Pidgeotto). Also, you can catch an Onix here but it's pretty hard to. Once you leave the cave, walk around a bit to enter the second town... Team Rocket has taken over! The Gym is blocked here. Use the Pokemon Center, then go to the northmost house and talk to a man here and he'll leave. Go back to the entrance, and find the 'well', which was blocked previously. In here, you'll find Zubats, which are easy to swat down, but isn't worth capturing. Fight the Rockets in here, and afterwards you'll have saved the town. Talk to the man, which is in his house and he'll give you something. The gym is accessible now. The leader (Leader 2) has a Metapod, Kakuna and Scyther: TRAINER- Leader 2 POKEMON- Metapod, Kakuna, Scyther This is very easy. Pidgeotto can take care of all three, although you might want to pull out your starting Pokemon and get it a few levels up by beating Metapod and Kakuna (They're quite easy, but unfortunately can attack). Scyther should'nt be much of a problem too. After winning, you'll get the second badge. Your rival also shows up somewhere here too. TRAINER- Gold (Rival) POKEMON- Gastly, Magnemite, Starting Pokemon The Gastly will be easy enough to take down with your starting pokemon's Ember (Or probably Pidgeotto's Gust), and ARRRGH! Magnemite! Magnemite and Magneton are Pidgeotto/Pidgeot's worst enemy, as they're hard to take down. The Starting Pokemon also shouldn't be a threat. Afterwards, go left to the forest. You'll see a Farfetched in here, who keeps running away from you. Block it from running the way it came, and after a while it'll run into the cops and the cop will give you HM 01, Cut. Teach it to Squirrel and cut your way through here, to the other end. In this route, there's the daycare center in here, which can house up to 2 Pokemon at a time. Also, the Drowsees in this route give quite a sum of Exp. and the Abras are easy to take down, so take time to level up, as there's a SUPER HARD Gym coming up. My Lv25 Pidgeotto wasn't enough to take it down, so I came back at Lv33 and still won with 7 HP left... Around this time, the egg that I got hatched into Togepi, at Lv5. The city with the Normal Gym also resembles Celadon, Cerulean and Saffron in one, actually (Bike shop, Big Market and company which is later invaded by team rocket). Looks like The Gym, specializes in Normal Pokemon... Duhhh. The Leader uses a Clefairy (some people said she uses two) and a Cow Pokemon. TRAINER- Leader 3 POKEMON- Clefairy, Cow The Clefairy is pretty easy to take down, although Metronome will cause some problems (sometimes). Here's the problem: The Cow. Cow uses Rage, which increases attack power. That's why you need to lay the smack down on it as FAST AS POSSIBLE or you're dead meat with a Cow Pokemon with it's attacking power to ass-kicking proportions. Afterwards you need to talk to some of the gals in here to actually get the badge. After winning, go to one of the houses and a lady gives you an item which you will need. It's actually the house next to the gym. Also, you can get the bike here in another building. It's not required, and the theme music sucks too. You can get an Eevee here. In some house, if you have space on your lineup you can get an Eevee Lv. 20. According to dennisctp@hotmail.com, there's a black building here. Is it the oil tower? An old woman here will ask you five questions - Get them all right and you'll get the Radio Pokegear!! Hope this clears up any confusion. Also, if you fail you can just talk to her again so don't worry about screwing up. North of here is another route filled with opportunities to get Pidgeotto up to a Pidgeot. If you enter the building and talk to the guard, sometimes he'll let you have 20 Pokeballs to use in the park and just one Pokemon to use. This is like the Safari Zone, except that sometimes I get kicked out of the competition in 5 seconds?! You can catch some old timers (Venonant, Caterpie, Scyther, Pinsir) and a new one (Looks like a cactus with a sprout). Also, the Pikachu Fan Trainer here has a Raichu, which is quite deadly (to Pidgeotto or Pidgeot, actually). East of it, there's a tree blocking the way. Use the item you got, and it'll 'wake up' and fight you. Catch it if you can, and continue to the next town. The town's Gym is accessible, so why not beat it after you use the Pokemon Center? This gym uses Ghosts. Note: DON'T use Tackle or Swift. They will miss. But actually, Wing Attack also works (Pidgeotto learns it at Lv33, Lv31 in the Blue/Red versions) because it is a Flying type attack. The Leader here uses Gastly, Haunter, Gengar and Haunter: TRAINER- Leader 4 POKEMON- Gastly, Haunter, Gengar, Haunter This is quite hard, because Gengar and Haunter has a move where it stabs itself for big damage, then you GET that damage every turn until you faint. Better take them down FAST or you're toast, or just bring some extra bug Pokemon. After winning, you'll get your fourth badge. Afterwards, go to a house that looks like a stage performance, and challenge all the dancing girls. When you win, a man will give you HM 03, Surf. Teach it to Squirrel. Now, go West, and to the Seaside Town. The Gym here is empty, but your rival shows up and doesn't fight. A man in the cafe in here gives you HM Strength. Surf around the waters until you encounter a Stingray Pokemon. Catch it, then surf around until you get to another seaside town. There's the Gym in sight, so go beat it. In the gym are three blocks of stone: Push the right and left ones up, then push the middle one left or right to solve the mini-puzzle. The leader here uses Primeape and Poliwrath. TRAINER- Leader 5 POKEMON- Primeape, Poliwrath This is easy enough to take down. He's boring. Primeape goes down with a Kadabra if you have one, and Poli can be taken down with any grass/electric Pokemon you might have. Pidgeot also works good. Afterwards, a lady in this town gives you HM 02, FLY!!! Teach it to PIDGEOT!!!!! FLY back to the first seaside town, and then go up to the lighthouse. At the top, (You need to jump down a level - use the hole by the girl trainer) you'll meet the gym leader and her pokemon. Now she usually just talks, but strangely one time she left! I'm guessing you have to talk to somebody in the second seaside town and the first one. Try talking to everybody. Go back to the empty Gym and challenge her to a match. TRAINER- Leader 6 POKEMON- Magnemite x2, Hardnail (steel onix) NOO! 2 Magnemites are worse than 1. Well, take them down with Fly, and here's the HARD part... The Steel Onix, which is a Steel Type, is weak to grass and water. If you have a strong water/grass Pokemon, USE IT! The Stingray might be good if you trained it up. Make sure it's at least Lv25. You might want to use a Machop (if you've got one) for the Magnemites. After beating her, go back to the Ghost Gym Town, and head east through the cave. In this town, go north until you reach a lake (Use the grassy path instead of the building to save $1,000). There's a Red Gyarados in the lake - Surf in and catch it. Afterwards, by the signpost is a familiar face to those Blue/Red players - Lance! Talk to him and he'll leave. Go back to the town before and enter the store. Lance will scruff up some guys and discover a secret staircase. It's a Team Rocket base. Defeat the trainers here, and pick up the items (two of 'em are Keys). Enter the room with the guy and the bird Pokemon and you'll fight him. Afterwards he escapes. Wander around some more and open the generator room and Lance shows up and you'll fight a female Team Rocket member. Afterwards, you can stop the generator by defeating the three Electrodes. Afterwards Lance gives you HM 06, Whirlpool Dissolver. Afterwards, you'll be able to fight the Seventh Gym Leader! He uses Ice Pokemon. TRAINER- Leader 7 POKEMON- Seel, Dewgong, Mammoth This is easy. You should be able to bust through them. Try a Fire type against them (Fire melts Ice). The toughest Pokemon here is Dewgong with its strong Aurora Beam (if he gets to pull it out). Before you can go to Gym 8, you'll need to make a stop at the third gym, which was taken over by Team Rocket! Go to the building that's like an oil tower or something. Bust through the Rockets. There's a big gate that's locked in here. Now, go to one of the houses with a staircase going down. Go down, and then right and open the door. You'll find a prison-like thing here. Your Rival shows up and fights you. TRAINER- Gold (Rival) POKEMON- (I forgot), Starting Pokemon This should be pretty easy with Pidgeot. Afterwards, solve the puzzle by hitting the switches and fight the members, and up the stairs (You'll end up in the department store). Now head back to that oil tower, open the big door, go up and fight the female team rocket. Afterwards, beat the male team rocket and you've saved the town! Afterwards, go to Gym 7 and go east and into the ice cavern. You can catch a Jynx in here! Also, be sure to get HM 07, Waterfall Climber - It's the one after the first big ice slide puzzle. You'll need to push rocks with Strength to make stops in order to reach the center stairs. The final gym is a dragon gym, and it's hard too. TRAINER- Leader 8 POKEMON- Dragonair x3, Evolved Seadra This is pretty hard, but Pidgeot should be able to defeat them if he's at Lv50 up (If you've been using him the whole time, that is also good). Also, a Raticate should be good. Afterwards, use surf to the cave behind the gym. Go down and use HM06 on the whirlpool, search around for a Pokeball. FINALLY The 8th Leader will come in and give you... the final badge!! To get to the Elite Four, go back to your starting place and surf right. Use HM07 to climb the waterfalls and battle your way through the trainers, and afterwards you'll reach an easy-to-get-pass Victory Road. At the end your Rival shows up for the final time! TRAINER- Gold (Rival) POKEMON- ?????, Starting Pokemon This should be easy. If not, then you're not ready for the Elite Four. Enter the Indigo Plateau, and buy a few Revives, Hyper Potions and stuff. Heal your pokemon and enter the stairs... NOTE: You're facing the elite four right now. Save first, because you can't go back after you've gone in. TRAINER- Elite #1 POKEMON- 2 Penguin-like Pokemon, Exeggutor, Jynx, Slowbro, ??? Pidgeot's Fly can cut through them, just be sure to have Hyper Potions. Also, you might want to try a Fire-type against Exeggutor and a Fighting type (I found out that it was good against him) like Machoke against Slowbro. TRAINER- Koga!! POKEMON- ????, Venomoth, Evolved Golbat, others, Muk Yep, this is Koga, the 5th/6th Gym Leader. Apparently he got a promotion. His pokemon are easy to defeat, although the brown clam-like thing will require 2-3 hits before you kill it. Also Double Team is annoying!! You'll MISS so often that you end up getting killed trying to attack! TRAINER- Bruno POKEMON- Small Hitmonchan/Lee, Onix, Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, Machamp If you have a Water/Psychic Pokemon, use it. Pidgeot can kill the fighting Pokemon in one blow (even Machamp) at Lv70+. Note that he has less muscle or looks slimmer than the one in Red/Blue versions. Note that the Onix has a Blizzard-like attack that continues on to the later rounds, but it sometimes damages the opponent too. Have a few Hyper Potions at your ready. And the small Hitmonchan/lee is a completely different Pokemon. TRAINER- Elite #4 POKEMON- Vileplume, Gengar, 3 others ???? TAKE OUT THAT GENGAR WITH ANOTHER POKEMON THAT'S NOT YOUR STRONGEST. It has the annoying Stab move, which makes you take major damage for each turn! I used my starting Pokemon at Evolution Level 3, Level 55 and took it down, and it died while fighting her second Pokemon. Pidgeot kicked the rest, but the Bone Dog thingy is pretty annoying too. POKEMON LEAGUE CHAMPION- LANCE POKEMON- Dragonite x3, Gyarados, Charizard, Aerodactyl The Dragonites are annoying. The Wrap attack does decent damage 3 turns in a row. Be sure to have REVIVES!! AND HYPER POTIONS!! Also, a Water pokemon can do good against Charizard (My Seaking Lv49 did well against it) and Aerodactyl is pretty easy to take down with Pidgeot. Overall, not too hard compared to Elite #4, if you're prepared, that is. And also the Hyper Beam's too strong to handle for most Pokemon!! Afterwards, Oak and another woman arrives and Lance takes you to the Pokemon League Chamber!! And your pokemon and you gets introduced like in the Red/Blue version. Afterwards, the credit rolls and the game finishes... And you start back in your hometown. If you want to go to the First Pokemon World, then go to the town that has the lighthouse. Somewhere in there earlier, there is an underground passage that in the end is blocked by 3 men. Now, the men have moved away and you're free to board the ship!! Fight the trainers in here, and afterwards go to the captain (it's past the man that blocks your way). Talk to the little girl, and afterwards go to the business man (her father) and the ship will arrive... in Vermillion City!! The gym is here. You can either Cut down the bush or Surf to get to it. NOTE: The Electric Door is gone!! TRAINER- Lt. Surge POKEMON- Raichu, Magneton, Electabuzz, 2 Electrode NOOO!!! He has Magneton!!! Well, if you have a Grass-type, you can easily take it down... He's pretty easy to beat. If you followed my suggestion of getting a Machop way back when you fought the Hardnail, you can use it again if it's around Lv50 or so (Machoke/champ). Also, you might want to try Ground types as they're immune to lightning. After you win, go north (use the passage building, not the underground tunnel) and you'll reach Saffron City. You'll notice a few things here: o The Silph Co. Building Floors 2-11 isn't accessible. The Lobby has been changed a little. o The Fighting Gym in town is closed, although there's an item in here... Not sure what it is though. o Sabrina still rules the gym in town. Beat her. TRAINER- Sabrina POKEMON- Effie, Mr. Mime, Alakazam Not too shabby, although they easily fall down to Ghost Types (A Haunter is good) and Bug types (Butterfree). If you can't knock it down in one hit, though, you can just say goodbye as Alakazam is POWERFUL. After defeating Sabrina, leave the gym, heal up your Pokemon and go west to Celadon City. You'll notice these things here: o YOU WILL NOT GET EEVEE IN THE DEVELOPER BUILDING!!! NOOOOOO! o The Team Rocket base here doesn't exist. o There are now a total of 2 Casino in the world (and the other in the other Celadon City in the other world). o You can still trade coins for prizes, but they have different Pokemon. You can get these Pokemon here: Mr. Mime for 3333 Coins Eevee for 6666 coins Porygon for 9999 coins o There's a new Casino game. Dunno what it does though (It's the two cards one, and flips over and random Pokemon with Lvs 2-5 come out). o Erika is still in the Gym business. Take her down. TRAINER- Erika POKEMON- Tangela, Victreebel, 2 Pokemon Unknown A Fire type can defeat their day, and Pidgeot will be able to take them down easily too (Grass Pokemon = Weak Vs. Flying Pokemon). Just use your fire starting Pokemon if you have it (if its levels are pretty low but not TOO low). After beating Erika, you can either take the 2 old-fashioned routes to Fuchsia City: Cycling Road, or the Back Route. CYCLING ROAD: The Snorlax here is gone. Just head down the slope and head east to Fuchsia (Note that you can't STOP by pressing both A and B now). BACK ROUTE: Head east from Celadon City to reach Lavender Town. Alternatively, you can go from Saffron to Cerulean to Rock Tunnel to Lavender. Either route, you still end up in Lavender. Go south from here and follow the main path south (The docks), west (The fenced maze), south and east (the brick road). It's still filled with Trainers. Once you reach Fuchsia City, go heal your Pokemon and head to the gym. The leader here is in the bottom left corner, apparently Koga's Apprentice. TRAINER- Koga's Sister POKEMON- Forgot, I think there's 2 Weezings and the Evolved Golbat She's as easy as Pie. Use a Hypno/Kadabra and you'll be fine. Kill the Pokemon, and head to Cerulean city. The Cerulean Gym is empty. Go to the Power Plant, talk to the man by the machine (I'm not sure, just talk to everybody) and before you leave the bellboy or something will go talk to another man. Now head to Cerulean Gym and you'll find a Team Rocket member! Chase him to Nugget Bridge, and defeat his Golbat. Afterwards he'll leave. Beat Routes 23 & 24 (To Bill's Cottage) and go inside and talk to the old man. You'll see on the bridge Bill and Misty!! She'll leave after a talk with him. Now go back to Cerulean Gym and you can challenge her! (NOTE: Walk around the outer lanes and surf to Misty to avoid any battles with other Trainers). TRAINER- Misty POKEMON- Golduck, Lapras, Starmie, ?????? Some of the Pokemon need 2-3 hits before they actually go down, and Pidgeot is weak to Ice, so you may run into a few problems. A Magneton will do good against them. The worst attacks to get hit by are Hyper Beam (Golduck), Aurora Beam (???????) and Blizzard (Lapras). I found a strange item in the Cerulean Gym. It's near the square Pond in the gym: __________| | | __ _____| |*|~~| |~~~~~ | |~~| |~~~~~ |____ |~~~~~ ~~~~| |~~~~~ ~~~~| |~~~~~ Check the spot there facing right with NO pokemon that can learn Surf. Apparently you can take this to the man in the Power Plant and you get TM 07. And after this, go to Lavender Town and talk to a Business Man somewhere and he'll upgrade your Radio Pokegear! It's the frequency that's the highest, and sounds like the pokeflute. You know what to do with it, eh? Go to Vermillion, and wake up the Snorlax. Catch it (There's only one in the game) and go through Diglett's Cave to Viridian City. The Gym here is empty, so just go north to Pewter via Viridian Forest. Brock's still in the gym here. TRAINER- Brock POKEMON- Omastar, Kabutops, Graveler, Onix, Rhyhorn A Water/Grass will take care of him easily, so does Pidgeot with Wing Attack/Fly. Note that for Omastar you might want to use a Grass type instead of a Water. After winning, go to Pallet Town and surf south to Cinnabar Island. Gary Oak is here! Talk to him and he goes away. Afterwards, surf left and enter the 'building' and you'll meet Blaine. TRAINER- Blaine POKEMON- Rapidash, Magmar, ???? Use a Water Pokemon here, but make sure it's pretty strong to survive Fire Blast!! Also, you might want Pokemon like Rhyhorn or Donphan as a Damage Magnet. After beating Blaine, head back to Viridian City and enter the gym... Gary got promoted!! And he builds his gym out of LEGO blocks too :) TRAINER- Gary POKEMON- Pidgeot (!!), Exeggutor, Arcanine, Alakazam, ????, ???? Well, he's got Pidgeot. It will be weaker than yours though (probably, if he's not your main pokemon). Altogether, probably easier than his lineup in the final battle of Red/Blue. Exeggutor will fall to a Fire type (Growlithe or Arcanine), Arcanine will fall to Manta Ray, Alakazam will fall to Bug type (Butterfree) and do your best for the rest. All of his Pokemon are Lv 50+. After beating Gary, you have one more goal: Beating Ash Ketchum. To beat him, go to Pallet Town and talk to Professor Oak. Then, go to Viridian City and head west to Victory Road. The two men that were blocking your way right and left (once you enter the building before Victory Road) is now gone. Well, head left from here and you'll be in a cave. Just go north whenever possible and you'll meet Ash at the end. TRAINER- Ash Ketchum POKEMON- Charizard, Venusaur, Pikachu, Effie, Snorlax, Blastoise Ash has all three starter pokemon, and that annoying Pikachu. Also, apparently he caught the second Snorlax in the world. He's not that hard if you have the right pokemon that has advantages against his at Lv 60+. You'll WANT TO HAVE SOME FULL HEALS or PARALYZE HEAL. After defeating Ash, he'll leave and the second credits roll up (although it's the same as the first one)! YEAH! You've beat Pokemon Gold/Silver!!!!!!! If you want to beat Ash again, you'll have to go boot out the Elite Four again... Easy task, no? That concludes the walkthrough... for now? Probably not. This may be the final version of the walkthrough, but I've still got the Item List and a Pokemon List to finish. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ V. Miscellany o Capturing Houou/Lugia!!! After getting at least 7 badges (probably earlier) you can go to the Ghost Gym town and enter a building with an underground passage to a Pagoda Tower, and at the top is Houou (Probably Lugia in the Silver Version, can't verify it). You'll need at least 15 Ultra Balls and a Pokemon strong enough to last the battle. Apparently you can catch Lugia in another place (one of the Sea Caves, probably the one with Ash Ketchum). Strangely, he wasted my Pidgeot and starter Pokemon, and I had my Red Gyarados out at 17 HP left. He had full health (No thanks to his Recover) and I decided to throw an Ultra Ball at him. Strangely, that captured him!!!!!!!!!!!! Once, he had like 1mm of health left and it missed. Are you supposed to throw the Ultra Ball right away or what?!! o Hand Phone Dennisctp@hotmail.com told me that after you beat trainers, some of them will ask for your phone number. After this, sometime in the game they'll call you back. This means they've healed their pokemon and is looking for a re-match. You can do this as many times as you like to earn extra Exp. and Cash. And they'll tell you what Route they're in. But it'll be a bit hard since it's all in japanese... For them to call you back, just cut a bush, rest at a Pokemon Center, etc. o Rods Rods are kinda useless, as you can Surf any waters and encounter random Pokemon that you could've meet if you fished. o Challenge Building In Viridian City, north of the Pokemon Center is a long building with a sign. You've entered the right building if it has a Growlithe statue on a desk. Head downstairs and talk to the clerk and you'll fight... YOURSELF!!! Your copy has all three starting Pokemon (Leaf-Head, Fire Hedgehog and Gator) on their Lv 3 evolution forms and all at Lv 50. You can get like 2,000+ Exp. and $5000 when you win, and you can always go back to the Pokemon Center and fight again and again. o Miscellanous Item There's an item that says japanese text and the number 9999. When I use it, it says japanese text and number 237. JLVegeta@aol.com says this is the coin case. Can anybody confirm this?! Yes, the item is the Coin Case. Probably it's like this: "You can carry up to 9999 Coins. You currently have: 237 coins" or something similiar to that. o Breeding Okay. HOW in the world can you breed?! Can anybody help? RyuujinNeo@aol.com and JLVegeta@aol.com e-mailed me about this. Apparently you have to leave two Pokemon of the same species but different sex (Male and female). Afterwards a man will be there holding their egg. Also, it seems like you can drop off different species and they will still breed. Apparently ONLY a FEW DIFFERENT SPECIES CAN BREED WITH EACH OTHER (eg. Like a Rattata and the Sheep Pokemon). Also, you can get new Pokemon if you breed 2 Pikachus, 2 Clefairies or 2 Jigglypuffs (To get their pre-evolved forms). I tried 2 Rattata, male and female. Even after 2 straight hours of playing the egg won't come out!?! Also, you can breed Pokemon of the same type but different color (like the Red Shiny Gyarados with a normal one), and the result is just a normal pokemon. Actually I think the only purpose of breeding is to get the pre-evolutions of Pokemon. o Safari Zone Prizes Apparently you can catch pokemon until you run out of balls or when you talk to the guards. You'll get some kind of Fruit if you scored 3rd position. you'll get another item if you scored 2nd position, and 1st prize is a Stone (probably an evolution stone). o Casino Prizes In the Gold Version, you can buy a: Abra 200c Ekans 700c Dratini 2100c In the Silver Version, you can buy Abra and Dratini at their respective prizes, but you can buy a Sandslash instead of an Ekans (Still at 700c). o Attaching Items to your Pokemon HAHAHA! I've probably figured it out! Apparently you can attach an item to your Pokemon for it to use, like if you attach a Potion to one of your Pokemon after almost getting beaten it'll use it to restore Hp. You can apparently attach any item, most doing no effect. Here's a small list on what each item does (some unconfirmed): Potion Heals 20 HP when almost dead Super Potion Heals 50 HP when almost dead Hyper Potion Heals 200 HP when almost dead Revive Instantly revive with 1/2 HP when dead? (Unconfirmed) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ VII. Pokemon In the town with the 4th gym, there is a tower with holes in it. If you go down you can see a glimpse of a cat/dog-like statue (3 of them). How do you get to them, you ask? Use TM 08 to get to them, and when you're up close they'll spring to life and go away. Now here's the good and bad part: You can capture them in various places (both worlds). I've caught Pokemon No. 244!! It's a red-like dog creature with fangs and a red mane... I first encountered it in the area around the 3rd gym, I Gusted it leaving it with around 1/2 HP before it escaped. Bummer... Well, I continued playing (wandering) around before I found it again in the area south of the 8th badge. I used my second Pokeball this time, and before it closed in, a sparkle covered it and I caught it!! YAHOO!! On the other hand... It might've been the Master Ball I used (DOH!!). Well, it's not so good, at Lv44 with 164 HP, 115 Attack and around 80+ of the other stats... It'll be better once I get it up. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ X.
