Duel Monsters 4 is the fifth Duel Monster game by Konami. This is the fourth Yu-Gi-Oh! title for the Gameboy Color system and the eighth title out of eight for all systems. Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters is based on one of the many games featured in the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga. The basic game plays a little like Magic: the Gathering. Each player has a deck limited to 40 cards. No more and no less. Each card has a number of points which it uses. One might take 15 points while another 200. You have a maximum number of points as well to limit which cards you can play with. Each player takes his/her turn by setting out one monster card out of five cards in the players hand. There are also Magic and Trap crads which can be played as well. You attack each other until one player loses the 8000LP (Life points) given to them at the start of the battle. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) Characters ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yuugi Mutou ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yuugi is a freshmen at Domino High School. Yuugi loves to play and solve games. Aside from that, Yuugi lives with his grandfather above his grandfathers gaming shop. Yuugi is a very smart boy (How smart exactly? We don't know.), like everyone else in his classes though, he has time to play many games. His grandfather gave him the long lost Egyptian "Millennium Puzzle", knowing that the power within would help Yuugi in some way. After Yuugi put the puzzle together, Yuugi's life changed. He changes into an "invincible" gaming king (It is and actual transformation of his body). During this transformation Yuugi will sometimes breifly grow a third eye in the middle of his forehead. Once the transformation is complete, he will play whichever game it is and beat the crap out of his opponent. He'll set up opponents, sometimes even while playing by their own rules, and he, of course, beats them at their own game. Since Yuugi is weak in his normal state, he has some strong friends. Katsuya Jounouchi, possibly his best friend, and Hiroto Honda. Yuugi has a crush on Anzu Mazaki, but he's shy so he doesn't act upon his feelings. However, what Yuugi doesn't know is that Anzu likes Yuugi's other side, the Game King. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Katsuya Jounouchi ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Freshmen at Domino High School. Jounouchi is sort of a gangster type of guy. He's the hardcore beat-em-up kind of guy. Although he's is a tough character, he is still a good guy. He cares about his friends and would go out of the way to help them. He usually takes matters into his hands if he spots something that he doesn't like. When Jounouchi and Honda first met Yuugi they used to pick on him. That quickly changed once Yuugi said that he considered them his friends. Jounouchi has a soft spot for Yuugi because he knows how vulnerable he is even though Yuugi tries to act like he's not. Jounouchi and Honda are the best of friends often spotted hanging around together at school and other places. Jounouchi is a great duelist, but he's still no match for Yuugi nor Kaiba. His constant goal is to prove himself a worthy duelist to "Game Master Yuugi", instead of Yuugi always getting Jounouchi out of sticky situations. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anzu Mazaki ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anzu is a freshmen at Domino High School. She's very cute. Her dream is to visit New York and study dance. While that's not happening, she spends her free time at school with her friends. She worked at a burger place called "Burger World", but a criminal there stopped that. Yuugi had saved her from getting shot down. That was when Anzu started wondering about the game master that had saved her, and her friend Yuugi. She is often found with Yuugi and is sometimes mistaken for his girlfriend. Yuugi would love that to happen, but perhaps Anzu finds safety in the fact that their just friends. Anzu cares a lot about her friends and shows it on a regular basis. Anzu can't stand Mai. She only puts up with her because she's another duelist. Later down the road Anzu and Yuugi find themselves together, accepting each other for who they really are. (Yu-Gi-Oh! manga Vol. 10) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mai Kujaku ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mai is commonly known for her use of feminine wiles to get her way, and her continuous use of her most favorite card in "Magic & Wizards", Harpy Lady. Mai is a confident duelist, but she was shaken by Jounouchi when the two actually battled. Jounouchi won the battle and left her with some disturbing words to remember: "That's just it...you can see it, but this, you couldn't see!" She gets seriously humble when Yuugi fights on her behalf to get her starchips back. At that moment she realizes what Yuugi and Jounouchi truely are. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sugoroku Mutou ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A game shop proprietor and expert gamer all around. Sugoroku is Yuugi's grandfather. Not much is really known about Yuugi's parents, but we're shown that he is raising Yuugi. Sugoroku owns the game shop below where they live. Yuugi gets most of his games and other items from there. Sugoroku has his own mystery behind him. He's been to America and has several friends there. He has connections to Egyptian artifacts, mostly games, and he has friends in the universities in Japan and other places. We don't know what else Sogoroku has or where he's been or even what else he's gotten in his travels. Sugoroku is a great player of Magic & Wizards. He has a special card, the "Blue Eyes White Dragon". It's said that it can only be used by the person who's heart it belongs to. Seto Kaiba tried to steal it from Yuugi, and was succesful in his attempt. In the end however, the heart of the card was for Yuugi's grandfather and Kaiba couldn't use it. Sugoroku cares a great deal about Yuugi, perhaps that's why he gave Yuugi the "Millennium Puzzle". He knew what secrets it held, and perhaps he wanted Yuugi to become stronger. But strength comes at a price. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Seto Kaiba ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Seto Kaiba is rich. Uncle Scrooge from Duck Tales rich. He manages his own accounts, rides limos everywhere, and has an unlimited passion for Magic & Wizards. He even created the ultimate gaming place, "Kaiba Land". He can't live with the fact that Yuugi beat him, but he realizes that Yuugi changes when he starts to play a game. He also knows that Yuugi's pendent is the key to his transformation. However, if you take away the pendent Yuugi is still capable of transforming into the game master. His ultimate goal in life is to beat Yuugi using whatever means necessary. Seto has a younger brother named Mokuba. Mokuba shares the passion of gaming, and wants to see Yuugi humiliated for messing with his brother. Since both parents died, and both were sent to an orphanage, Seto promised Mokuba that he would take care of them no matter what. Seto challenged the president of the Kaiba Corporation, Gozaburo Kaiba, to a game of chess when he came to the orphanage to adopt. As a reward for the game, Seto and Mokuba became his adopted sons. However, Gozaburo treated Seto cruelly to train his successor. That is why Seto is so cold-hearted. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) Walkthrough ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3a) Starting a Game ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- At the title screen you have two options to choose from: New Game * Continue Start: ------ Starts a new game and asks you a question about old saved games (Not sure about that). Continue: --------- This option will continue the game that you have saved. There is only one save slot for the game. It will take to you to the exact spot you saved to. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3b) Main Menu ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you've started a game you'll be taken to the main menus with five menus. The orders are if you were to press down to access the menus. ?????? * * Trade Competition * * Results Password * ??????????: ----------- This menu takes you to your opponents for battle. This is where playing the game takes place. Select a person and they'll talk about something, then onto more menus! The submenu has three choices: A) Collection (Best word I could think of until I get translations for these menus) B) Deck C) Battle Competition: ------------ Lets you battle a friend if you have a game link cable. The submenu for Competition has three choices: A) Collection (Best word I could think of until I get translations for these menus) B) Deck C) How much life you start with (Not sure) Password: --------- Enter your card codes here. Card codes let you unlock the card which you own in the game. That way you can play with your deck at home...to a certain extant. Results: -------- Lets you view your progress in the game allowing you to view a number of things such as how many times you've won or loss to a certain opponent in the game. Trade: ------ Allows you to trade your cards from all four of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monster games. As you start the battle who takes the first turn is randomly decided. The basic layout for the game board is like this (please excuse my crappy ascii art): _____________________________________________________ | Enemy Life Points | Trap Card Area | Opponents Hand | |___________________|________________|________________| | Opponent's "Field" | |_____________________________________________________| | ??????????? | | |_____________| | | Card Name | | |-------------| | | Attack | | | Defense | Selected Card Picture | |-------------| | | Type | | |-------------| | | Rarety | | |_____________|_______________________________________| | Your Life Points | Trap Card Area | Your Hand | |__________________|________________|_________________| Basic controls are as follow: A: - Selects card to be played - Brings up menu for monster card in play The menus for this has four choices: Attack Sacrafice Defense Discard (Not sure) Attack: ------- Lets you attack your opponent to try and defeat him. The God cards are obtained by defeating 3 opponents: Dark Yuugi - God of Osirus Dark Bakura - God of Oberis Maric - God of Raa ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q. What are their (God cards) abilities? A. From Waninoko: God of Oberis - Destroy all enemy cards on field and damage 4000LP to opponent. God of Osirus - Increase power 500 for 1 card in your hand, but it can only add 2 cards. God of Raa - Revive card from opponent and your graveyard and control 1 enemy card. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5)Card Chart by Megaman X and contributors ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- \-------------------------------------------------------------------------/ | Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters Chart v0.1 | /-------------------------------------------------------------------------\ To the people who are new to the Card Code Chart series, this chart tells you what you get from the card code you enter into the password mode of the game, and what abilities or effects that card has. One more thing, if you try and enter all the codes at the start if a new game, some won't be usable until you until you win more battles. OH! This is a pain in the ass to edit from my card code chart into this pretty thing below, so this will be done a little slow since there are 900 cards. Enjoy. \----------------------------------------------------------------------------/ | Number | Card Name | Card Code | Ability or Effect | |--------|---------------------------|-----------|-------------------------| | 1 | Blue Eyes White Dragon | 89631139 | | | 2 | Holy Elf | 15025844 | | | 3 | | 76184692 | | | 4 | Baby Dragon | 88819587 | | | 5 | | 15303296 | | | 6 | | 41392891 | | | 7 | Fort Protect Pterodactyl | 87796900 | | | 8 | | 14181608 | | | 9 | Skull | 40575313 | | | 10 | Dragon of Darkness | 87564352 | | | 11 | | 13069066 | | | 12 | | 40453765 | | | 13 | Sea Bream Horse | 72842870 | | | 14 | | 18246479 | | | 15 | Knight of Flame | 45231177 | | | 16 | Time Magician | 71625222 | | | 17 | Sealed Exodia's Right Leg | 08124921 | | | 18 | Sealed Exodia's Left Leg | 44519536 | | | 19 | Sealed Exodia's Right Arm | 70903634 | | | 20 | Sealed Exodia's Left Arm | 07902349 | | | 21 | Sealed Exodia | 33396948 | | | 22 | Summon Demon | 70781052 | | | 23 | | 06285791 | | | 24 | White Skeleton | 32274490 | | | 25 | Harlot | 69669405 | | | 26 | | 05053103 | | | 27 | | 32452818 | | | 28 | | 68846917 | | | 29 | Mountain Warrior | 04931562 | | | 30 | Undead Warrior | 31339260 | | | 31 | | 67724379 | | | 32 | | 94119974 | | | 33 | Judge | 30113682 | | | 34 | | 66602787 | | | 35 | Black Magician | 46986414 | | | 36 | | 29491031 | | | 37 | Dragon Knight Gaia | 66889139 | | | 38 | Dark Knight Gaia | 06368038 | | | 39 | Curse of Dragon | 28279543 | | | 40 | | 55763552 | | | 41 | Knight of Elf | 91152256 | | | 42 | | 28546905 | | | 43 | | 54541900 | | | 44 | Holy Doll | 91939608 | | | 45 | | 27324313 | | | 46 | | 53829412 | | | 47 | | 80813021 | | | 48 | | 26202165 | | | 49 | | 53606874 | | | 50 | | 89091579 | | | 51 | Armored Lizard | 15480588 | | | 52 | | 52584282 | | | 53 | | 88979991 | | | 54 | | 15367030 | | | 55 | | 41762634 | | | 56 | | 87756343 | | | 57 | | 14141448 | | | 58 | | 40640057 | | | 59 | Mammoth's Graveyard | 40374923 | | | 60 | | 13429800 | | | 61 | | 49417509 | | | 62 | Harpy Lady | 76812113 | | | 63 | Harpy Lady Triplet | 12206212 | | | 64 | Tiger Axe | 49791927 | | | 65 | Silver Wolf | 90357090 | | | 66 | | 01184620 | | | 67 | | 48579379 | | | 68 | | 14977074 | | | 69 | | 41462083 | | | 70 | | 77456781 | | | 71 | | 14851496 | | | 72 | | 40240595 | | | 73 | | 76634149 | | | 74 | Giant Rock Soldier | 13039848 | | | 75 | | 49127943 | | | 76 | | 76512652 | | | 77 | | 02906250 | | | 78 | | 48305365 | | | 79 | | 75390004 | | | 80 | Tyrannosaur Rex | 01784619 | | | 81 | | 38289717 | | | 82 | Red Eyes Black Dragon | 74677422 | | | 83 | | 00062121 | | | 84 | | 33066139 | | | 85 | | 69455834 | | | 86 | | 06840573 | | | 87 | | 32344688 | | | 88 | | 68339286 | | | 89 | | 95727991 | | | 90 | Goddess of Reverse | 31122090 | | | 91 | | 68516705 | | | 92 | | 94905343 | | | 93 | | 30090452 | | | 94 | Land Crawl Dragon | 67494157 | | | 95 | | 93889755 | | | 96 | | 20277860 | | | 97 | | 66672569 | | | 98 | | 92667214 | | | 99 | Pumpkin King | 29155212 | | | 100 | | 55550921 | | /----------------------------------------------------------------------------\ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) Extra Codes ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These are codes found by Waninoko sent into me before the writing of this. The walkthrough will help you play the basic game, but I know there's a lot missing. Its on the way. Likewise the charts, particularly that for the card names and abilities, still lack their names and abilities! I'm pretty unclear in areas; and the only guidance you'll get for those parts are the words of other people (I haven't quite finished this game myself yet). There's a long way to go before I'd advise any player to rely on this guide to the exclusion of their own wit. Deltaflame since he translated a little bit of stuff in the game for my translation of it. Chris_Judah and Miryokuteki for translating some stuff also. They worked together. Waninoko for supplying me with a few card codes and the codes in the 'Extra Codes' section. If you submit stuff, I'm sure you'll make it up here. Megaman X - MegamanX@xtranslations.freeservers.com
