Ragnarok Online FAQ by Timothy Maus (halbarad@fnord.com) --------TABLE OF CONTENTS--------- Overview Basic Commands World Classes Spoils Herbs Potions Weapons Armor Monsters ------------OVERVIEW--------------- Ragnarok Online is a new MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online RPG) by Gravity Software. It is currently undergoing alpha testing on the Internet, and can be downloaded at www.ragnarokonline.com. (about 150 MB, so be prepared!) The system is somewhat reminiscent of Final Fantasy Tactics; your character begins in the world as a Novice equipped with a Knife and a Cotton Shirt, and by achieving various objectives one can change classes into one of 5 other classes, listed below. Even in the limited amount of the full game we've seen so far, it's a blast, so give it a try! --------BASIC COMMANDS------------- To walk, just left-click on the square you want to walk to. Holding down left-click will make you keep walking in whatever direction you're clicking. Use left-click also to attack. To rotate the screen, hold down the right mouse button and drag the mouse until you get the angle you want. Also, right-click on someone to either open a trade screen with them or add their name to your whisper list. To talk aloud, just type what you want to say and hit enter. To speak to your party alone, either preface your comments with a percent sign (%) or hit the left button on the chat bar and select "send to party" (which will make everything you say go only to the party.) To whisper to a particular character anywhere in the world, type their name (case-sensitive) in the left-hand box and your comments on the right. The small button next to the whisper box opens a drop-down which includes the names of everyone you've added to your whisper list and those who have whispered to you. (NOT a toggle) F12-opens the hotkey setup; drag usable items (the top tab on the Items window) to the boxes to set that item to that particular hotkey (F1-F9) --------------WORLD---------------- This section is a guide to various locations in the world (and how to get to various sites that may not be apparent, especially the job change guilds.)You begin the game in North Prontera, in front of a guide who will give you some VERY rough directions (which I'll improve upon.) Bear in mind, most NPCs who aren't shopkeepers or serve some other similar purpose (such as the soldier in the town hall in South Prontera who will escort you to the sewers, or the officers of the various guilds) have nothing to say at this time. Locations with "field" in the name always contain monsters; the pyramid, the Prontera dungeon, the Moroc jungle, and the Underground waterway also contain monsters. Area exits (into buildings, into the next area) are indicated in the game by a shaded circle on the ground. Going past approximately the center of a circle (you don't have to necessarily step ON the circle) will take you to that area. PRONTERA AREA Prontera north field | | Prontera Dungeon North Prontera \ | \ | Prontera west field--Prontera Castle--Prontera east field | | Underground waterway--South Prontera | | Prontera south field | | Moroc north-east field* MOROC AREA Pyramid Moroc north field Arches' village \____ | / \ \ | / \ Moroc Village--Moroc east field Moroc jungle | | Moroc Castle | | Moroc south field Prontera south field* \ | \ | Moroc north-east field ---AREA INFORMATION--- Non-dungeon --Prontera north field-- Monsters: Poring, Fabre, Chocho --North Prontera-- Cathedral (acolyte job change): Southwest side of square; entrance faces northwest. Graveyard save point: West side of square, behind the cathedral; talk to the guard just out- side the graveyard to set your save point there. Prontera Item Shop (Prize exchanger, Item dealer): Just southeast of the town square-the building with the giant telescope on the roof. Entrance faces east. Prontera Weapon Shop (Weapon dealer, Armor dealer): Building directly north of Item Shop; entrance faces northeast. --Prontera Castle-- Note on Prontera Castle: You must go through the castle to enter or exit North Prontera. Just head straight through. --Prontera west field-- Entrance to Prontera dungeon: Northeast corner of area. Look for a black dot on the map. Monsters: Poring, Fabre, Chocho, Wilow, Spore, Roda Frog (rare) --Prontera east field-- Monsters: Poring, Fabre, Chocho, Roda Frog (rare) --South Prontera-- Swordman Guild (swordman job change): Northeast corner of square, next to library (sign with 2 people on it outside) Town Hall (papers): Due west from center of square Merchant Guild (merchant job change): From inside the Town Hall, take the lower-right exit South Prontera save point: Inside inn; take the path due east out of the square; it's the building just south of the T-intersection., with the INN sign outside. Talk to the receptionist inside to set the save point there. Entrance to Underground waterway: From inside Town Hall, take the upper-left exit and speak to the soldier (NPC on far left) --Prontera south field-- Monsters: Poring, Fabre, Chocho --Moroc north-east field-- Monsters: Condor, Steel Chocho, Pecopeco, Wolf Exit to Moroc south field: southwest corner of map --Moroc south field-- Monsters: Condor, Steel Chocho, Pecopeco, Wolf Exit to Moroc north-east field: on the dark trail, east side of map --Moroc Castle-- The route through this area leads around the castle-rotating the map may help you see better. --Moroc Village-- Moroc Weapon Shop (Weapon dealer, Armor dealer): East side of map, just south of the exit to Moroc east field Moroc Item Shop (Item dealer): Southernmost open-air dealer in the area. (Sprite is young redhead.) -------------CLASSES--------------- These are the published classes in the game. The magician class is currently not yet implemented; it should appear in the beta test due in November. Remember, in this alpha test you can't change classes more than once, so be sure you've picked the class you want before you change it! SWORDMAN Job Change Requirements: Level 10, 10 Claw of Wolves, Letter of Residency, 200 zeny Location of Guild: South Prontera, northeast side of square (next to library) Pros/Cons (applies to Alpha only) +Can equip almost any weapon in the game +Can equip the most powerful armor in the game, Plate Mail -Has to close to melee range to attack, so this class tends to use a lot of potions THIEF Job Change Requirements: Level 6, 400 zeny Location of Guild: Pyramid in Moroc; keep taking the ramps that lead upward to reach it Pros/Cons +Highly versatile, can equip both bows and a good number of melee weapons +Can equip most armor -Fairly low hp; you're not very likely to get many MVPs with a thief -Can be hard to play solo; but a thief makes a great support character with a bow ARCHER Job Change Requirements: Level 8, 20 Feather of Birds Location of Guild: Arches' village, building in center of town Pros/Cons +Can equip bows, which means that against some enemies, you can kill them without taking a hit at all -Moderately low hp; coupled with its somewhat restricted defense (no way to equip a shield and a bow), most archers will never get MVPs MERCHANT Job Change Requirements: Level 5, 600 zeny, Resident Certificate, Business Certificate Location of Guild: South Prontera, in the town hall (west of the main square). Take the door that leads left when you first enter. Pros/Cons I'll fill this section out once I've talked with an experienced merchant. ACOLYTE Job Change Reqirements: Level 5 Location of Guild: North Prontera, southwest corner of main square (the Cathedral) Pros/Cons -Has a VERY limited selection of armor and weaponry; coupled with the lack of any skills (in alpha, at least) this is the single WORST class in the alpha test. DON'T PICK IT! -Low HP growth MAGICIAN (Not implemented in alpha) More info on this when the beta version is released! --------------SPOILS--------------- Spoils are items that drop from a monster when you kill it. Most are sold to shops to gain zeny; at the moment this is the only way to earn zeny. Prices listed are what you'll get paid for one of that item. Note: All spoils that restore either HP or SP do so in very small quantities. Don't expect to use them to heal yourself in combat.
