There he describes an efficient step-by-step procedure for obtaining the ultimate weapons and maxing your stats. Also see Section 5.5 for the best AP Trick I've ever seen. This guide is intended to demonstrate how to engineer the Sphere Grid in order to maximize your character's stats as much as possible. I say as much as possible, because you can't maximize all 10 stats simultaneously. But you can maximize 8 of them without help from special armor, and you can maximize 9 of them with help from special armor. It's not such a bad thing that you can't maximize that last stat, as you'll see below. Doing this is a very involved and time-consuming process. It's only for those who want to push the game that extra mile. I'm pretty sure I've got the sphere grid totals right this time. I've got Tidus with 255 on each core stat, 999 MP, and 68,020 HP. These stats correspond to the numbers in sections 3.2 and 3.4. ============================= 3.0 - SPHERE GRID STRUCTURE ============================= -------------- 3.1 - Basics -------------- For lots of detailed information on how the sphere grid works, see CB's guide on GameFaqs. Let me just mention a couple of key points. To clear nodes, you'll need Clear Spheres. These can be purchased from the monster arena for 10,000 gil each. You can only purchase them after unlocking Ultima Buster (capture 5 of each monster from each area). Clear Spheres turn a stat node into an empty node. You have to be next to the node you want to clear to do so, but the node you clear doesn't have to be activated. In fact, if it is activated by anyone, after you clear it, it's as if it never was activated. So if you clear a STR +1 node, everyone who had activated it will lose 1 point of strength. The general idea here is to clear +1, +2, and +3 nodes and replace them with +4 nodes. --------------------- 3.2 - Initial State --------------------- At the beginning of the game, the grid has the following nodes: 500 stat nodes 191 empty nodes 22 white magic nodes 19 black magic nodes 36 skill and special nodes 11 Lv1 locks 10 Lv2 locks 15 Lv3 locks 24 Lv4 locks for a total of 828 nodes. The white magic, black magic, skill and special nodes are not removable with Clear Spheres. There are 77 unmovable nodes, leaving us with 751 nodes to work with. Note that lock nodes become empty nodes when unlocked. ------------- 3.3 - Stats ------------- These are the stats with their corresponding maximums: Strength 255 Defense 255 Magic 255 Magic Defense 255 Agility 255 Evasde 255 Accuracy 255 Luck 255 HP 99,999 (or 9,999 without Break HP Limit) MP 9,999 (or 999 without Break MP Limit) Let's call the ones with maximum of 255 the 'core stats.' ------------------------------ 3.4 - New Sphere Grid Design ------------------------------ The best stat node for a core stat is a +4 Sphere. Dividing 255 by 4 and rounding up, we get 64. Taking Strength as an example, this means it takes 64 of the Strength +4 nodes to maximize Strength. However, as many of you pointed out, I didn't take the starting stats into account for previous versions of this guide. For all of the core stats except Luck, we only need 63 nodes to max out everyone. For Luck we only need 60. So the number of core stat nodes we need is: 63 * 7 + 60 = 501. These 501 nodes will be devoted to +4 stat nodes. This leaves 751 - 501 = 250 nodes to work with to divide between HP and MP. It's really up to you how you want to divide them, but I prefer to have lots of HP. Let's say we have enough MP nodes to give each character 999 MP. With the One MP Cost ability (which both Yuna and Lulu have on their ultimate weapons) this will let you cast almost a thousand spells, or nearly 500 if you are using Magic Booster. I can't imagine needing more than that. MP Spheres give you +40 MP (not +30 as I've seen in some other FAQS), so we need to allocate 25 nodes for MP. That leaves 250 - 25 = 225 nodes for HP! That's 225 * 300 = 67,500 HP! Now if you really must have 99,999 HP, just make an armor with the following abilities: Break HP Limit HP +30% HP +20% Note that you don't need that HP +10% as I said in previous versions, because of the new numbers for HP. This would give you just over 100,000 HP, but the max is 99,999 HP. This is what I meant in the introduction about maxing 9/10 stats with the help of special armor. And you still have 999 MP! ========================= 4.0 - BILL OF MATERIALS ========================= -------------------- 4.1 - Stat Spheres -------------------- Now of course we would like to do the minimum work possible to make this happen. This means keeping all the +4 core stat nodes and +40 MP nodes (unfortunately there aren't any +300 HP nodes on the default grid). Here's a list of how many good nodes we have on the default grid: Strength +4 23 Defense +4 12 Magic +4 17 Magic Defense +4 16 Agility +4 21 Evade +4 19 Accuracy +4 4 Luck +4 2 MP +40 7 for a total of 121. To figure out how many of each core stat spheres we need, just subtract the number above from 63 (or 60 for Luck). For example, we need 63 - 23 = 40 Strength Spheres. We need 25 - 7 = 18 MP Spheres, and a whopping 225 HP Spheres. Here's a list of what stat spheres we need: Strength 40 Defense 51 Magic 46 Magic Defense 47 Agility 42 Evade 44 Accuracy 59 Luck 58 HP 225 MP 18 --------------------- 4.2 - Clear Spheres --------------------- Of course we need to destroy all the crappy stat nodes already present on the grid. This means we need lots of Clear Spheres. Unfortunately we have to clear every single HP node too. Adding it all up, we need 390 Clear Spheres. Buy these from the arena. -------------------------------- 4.3 - Activation Spheres -------------------------------- We need 4 types of activation spheres: Power Spheres for the Strength, Defense, and HP nodes. Mana Spheres for the Magic, Magic Defense, and MP nodes. Speed Spheres for the Agility, Evade, and Accuracy nodes. Fortune Spheres for the Luck nodes. Here are the totals for each character: Power Spheres 351 Mana Spheres 151 Speed Spheres 189 Fortune Spheres 60 And multiplying by 7, we arrive at the total number needed for all characters: Power Spheres 2457 Mana Spheres 1057 Speed Spheres 1323 Fortune Spheres 420 Unfortunately you can't buy these. Get Fortune Spheres from Earth Eater. To get lots of Power/Mana/Speed Spheres, fight Kottos, feed him distillers, and overkill him. You'll usually get 40 spheres. Thanks to everyone who submitted this tip. ----------- 4.4 - Gil ----------- Now, besides the one or two you get from the temples, the only way to get stat spheres is to fight at the arena, and for these battles you must pay. It's very important to overkill the monsters, so that you can get 2 of them from one fight. Here's a table listing how much gil you need to spend for all of these fights, along with purchasing Clear Spheres. I've also included Fortune Spheres, since you can only get these from Earth Eaters: Str. Juggernaut 20 8000 160,000 Def. Tanket 26 8000 208,000 Mag. Jumbo Flan 23 8000 184,000 M.Def. One-Eye 24 8000 192,000 Acc. Hornet 30 8000 240,000 Agl. Fenrir 21 8000 168,000 Ev. Pteryx 22 8000 176,000 Luck Greater Sphere 29 15000 435,000 HP Ironclad 113 8000 904,000 MP Vidatu 9 8000 72,000 Fort. Earth Eater 210 15000 3,150,000 Clear (purchased) 390 10000 3,900,000 for a total of 9,789,000 gil. Of course, any battles where you win Dark Matter or fail to overkill the monsters will add to this total. As for the lock spheres, monsters at the Omega Ruins will drop Lv.1-3 spheres, and you can bribe Chimera Brain for 2x Lv.4 spheres for 196,000. I don't know of a better way to get money than fighting Mimics at Omega Ruins, coupled with Gillionaire. You can make it go further though. Because you'll be fighting so many arena monsters, they drop lots of nice weapons and armor which you can sell for extra money. One-Eyes drop especially nice items. ------------ 4.5 - Time ------------ If you've read everything up until now, you can imagine how much time this takes. It's quite tedious. I wish I'd kept better track of my time, but I would estimate that it took me about 65 hours in order to complete the sphere grid engineering, with 1 character activating the entire thing. But if you use Morph's strategy, described in the next section, you can do it much faster than I did, in 30 hours. Quick Hit and Auto-Haste are extremely important for saving time. ================================================== 5.0 - IN DEPTH GUIDE TO SPEED UBERIZE YOUR PARTY ================================================== -------------------- 5.1 - Introduction -------------------- You've finally arrived at near end of the game, but for some reason, you can't seem to beat Braska's Final Aeon. It just keeps killing you, then the realization hits you - you need to make your characters STRONGER! MUCH STRONGER! So strong that you will KILL whatever stands in your way in one hit. This is a FAQ compilation for those of you too lazy to go through different FAQs looking for the information you need. Everything here is not new, but just a regurgitation of what other authors have already said. The difference is that this guide is to make your characters strong AND complete, in the LEAST amount of time as possible. The guide will assume your characters are strong enough to fight "some" monsters inside Sin and Omega Ruins, but with difficulty. It will also assume you've never captured a single monster up till the very end, and it lastly assumes you don't have a single Ultimate Weapon. Speed is emphasized very much in this FAQ. In each area, I've tried putting down everything you'd need to do without going back later on. Airship isn't necessary, but the FAQ uses it extensively. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5.2 - The Beginning - Acquire Ultimate Weapons and Capture some Monsters ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The first thing you should try to do is get all the Ultimate Weapons, as well as try to capture at least 5 of each type of monster you encounter. It doesn't really matter what order you get the Ultimate Weapons in, as long as you get them all. Before you start this quest, make sure to visit the monster arena first and get capturing weapons for Tidus, Auron, and Wakka. If you haven't gotten BlitzAce yet -- as you are going around capturing monsters, use Tidus's OverDrive when you can. Why get the Ultimate Weapons and unseal their power? - The main reason is because you need to be able to Break Damage Limit and do 99,999 damage with each hit. It is the easiest way to get Break Damage Limit. The alternative requires you to get 60x Dark Matter. 60x Dark Matter is NOT easy to do. TOO expensive if you are bribing, and too hard in the beginning to win from Arena's Original Creations. So as you try to get Ultimate Weapons, capture 5 of each monster. If you get 5 of each, you'd get 99x Dark Matter at the end. I found it best if you have a piece of paper with names of the monsters that you need to capture, and mark it when you capture a type. So you know which you should flee from. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.2.1 - Celestial Mirror, Moon Sigil (Yuna), and Saturn Sigil (Kimahri) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Note: Don't equip No Encounter while you are looking for the Chocobo Lady. Fight all the monsters, and capture them all. Don't waste time capturing more than 5 monsters by running in a circle though. Just get them as they come. :: Monsters you need to capture in Calm Lands:: - Skoll, Nebiros, Flame Flan, Shred (Near NE), Anacondaur, Ogre (Near NW), Coeurl, Chimera Brain, Malboro :: Monsters you need to capture in Macalania Forest:: - Wasp, Murussu, Blue Element, Xiphos, Chimera - Note: due to the rarity of these monsters, if you encounter one, it is likely there are more around that area. DO circle around and see if you could get more. *** Step 1 - Go to the Calm Lands and find the Chocobo Lady. Ask her about training a Chocobo and proceed to go through the steps to train a chocobo. It doesn't matter what records you get in the first three types of training, just win them the best that you can. Don't try to win the last race with 0:00:00 yet. You should go acquire a cloudy mirror first. *** Step 2 - After acquiring a chocobo, tell her that you want to ride a chocobo. Ride the chocobo southward toward Macalania Woods (or if the chocobo lady is already near the Macalania Woods point just go east). From that point, if you ride further east, you'd notice a small yellow feather on the ground. This indicates that your chocobo could jump from that point. Proceed to jump down and you'd be on the platform leading to Remiem Temple. This is where you will race chocobo to chocobo. You just have to win to get the Cloudy Mirror. [Where to find tips on how to beat the Champion Chocobo] - On http://home.san.rr.com/circe/ (CB!'s homepage) - you will find a map of the racing course. Just follow the red line and you'll beat the Champion no problem. *** Step 3 - After winning the mirror (and other prizes listed on CB!'s page), go inside the temple and begin your battle against Belgemine's Aeons. You must have all the aeons other than Magus Sister to do this (You'll acquire Magus sister during this fight). You will receive the Moon Sigil after sending Belgemine to the farplane. *** Step 4 - Go back south to the Macalania Woods and keep going left until you see a mother and her child waiting in the middle. Talk with them until they mention the missing father. Now go back east and go up to the campsite to find the father. Lead the father back to them and talk to them until they mention their missing child. Now, go up the shiny path and head north on the fork until you find the child. Use the cloudy mirror to get Celestial Mirror. This place is where you'll return whenever you get Sigils and Crests to activate the weapons' power. You'll come back here after you've gone through all the sections. *** Step 5 - Go through the shiny path until you reach the northern area of the Macalania Woods. You will find a butterfly guy, standing beside a butterfly. This is where the butterfly game begins. You will have to capture 7 blue butterflies while avoiding the red butterflies, in both sections. [Where to find tips on capturing the butterflies] - On http://home.san.rr.com/circie/ (CB!'s homepage) - you will find the map to the Butterfly course. Follow the mapping of red line, and you will get it done eventually. It isn't very hard. - If you touch the red butterflies, don't frown. Capture the monsters! You need at least 5 of each. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.2.2 - Sun Sigil (Tidus), Caladbolg (Tidus), Nirvana (Yuna), and Rusty Sword (Auron) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ::Monsters you need to capture in Cavern of the Stolen Fayth:: - Yowie, Imp, Dark Element, Nidhogg, Thorn, Valaha, Epaaj, Ghost, Tonberry (green room before Yojimbo is best). *** Step 1 - Go back to the Chocobo Lady and start the last training option. The dreaded race with the Chocobo Lady. You must win with 0:00:00. Don't give up, it usually takes an hour or two of racing to do it. [Where to find tips on how to beat her] - There are many ideas on how to get 0:00:00, you can find them on GameFAQs.com's forum for FFX. - On http://home.san.rr.com/circe/ (CB!'s homepage) -- you can find Sidequests FAQ v0.5 by Morelock. It details very specific instructions on how to do this. *** Step 2 - After you win, you'll notice a guy standing around. If you talk with him, he'll say that it was a great race! Now, walk north (don't ride the chocobo unless you've captured all the different monsters in Calm Lands) and you will find a small path that is barely visible on the northwestern tip of the Calm Lands. Go down that path and get Caladbolg from there. Stay around this area to capture ogres if you haven't gotten 5 yet. *** Step 3 - Walk around the area until you've captured at least 5 of every monster here in Calm Lands. After you did it, go to the monster arena, and the guy should have a chest for you that contains the Nirvana. Open it for your prize. (You only need 1 of each monster, but 5 is a better number) *** Step 4 - Go north and then down the side path heading toward the Cavern where Yojimbo is. Keep going south then to the right (where all the people are standing around), and you'll find a sword sticking up from the ground. Pull it out to get Rusty Sword. *** Step 5 - Since you are in the area, go into the Cavern where Yojimbo is, and capture all the monsters (at least 5 of each). ------------------------------------------------------ 5.2.3 - Sun Crest (Tidus) and Saturn Crest (Kimahri) ------------------------------------------------------ ::Monsters you need to capture in Mt Gagazet:: Bandersnatch, Ahriman, Dark Flan, Grenade, Grat, Grendel, Bashura, Mandragora, Behemoth, Splasher, Achelous, Maelspike *** Step 1 - Use airship to land you in Zanarkand, and from there, proceed north and up to where you fought Yunalesca. Go up the stair or down the stair, until you see a chest on the northern stairs. Open it to get the Sun Crest. *** Step 2 - Fight all the monsters from where you got Sun Crest, down to where the Ronzos are (just go backward in the linear path). Near the place where you fought Seymour, go right to the next area, and you'd see a bunch of pillars. In between the pillars, a chest is hidden. It contains the Saturn Crest. *** Step 3 - Go down Mt Gagazet and capture more monsters. --------------------------- 5.2.4 - Moon Crest (Yuna) --------------------------- ::Monsters you need to capture in Besaid Island:: Dingo, Condor, Water Flan *** Step 1 - Use airship to get to Besaid Island. On the beach, you'll find Yuna's crest. I got this when I first got to Besaid. *** Step 2 - Go capture monsters! They are right around the area. ----------------------------- 5.2.5 - Onion Knight (Lulu) ----------------------------- *** Step 1 - Go to Baaj Temple. I'm assuming you know where, since you got Anima already in order to get Yuna's Moon Sigil in Section 5.2.1. *** Step 2 - Swim down and opposite from where the entrance to the temple is. You'll find the chest in a weird looking deep spot. Open it to get the Onion Knight. ---------------------------- 5.2.6 - Venus Crest (Lulu) ---------------------------- *** Step 1 - Go to Guadosalam, and head to the farplane area. Find the chest with Venus Crest near the area. After that, head north to the Thunder Plains. ------------------------------------------------------- 5.2.7 - Venus Sigil (Lulu) and Spirit Lance (Kimahri) ------------------------------------------------------- ::Monsters you need to capture in Thunder Plain:: - Melusine, Aerouge, Buer, Gold Element, Kusariqqu, Larva, Iron Giant (North Plain), Qactuar *** Step 1: Find a good spot, and start avoiding 200 lightning bolts consecutively. After that, head to Rin's Inn and check in. Then get your Sigil. [Tips on how to avoid 200 lightning bolts] - Concentrate! Don't even guess when the next bolt is coming. - There isn't any "trick" to it, just concentrate - it sounds harder than it actually is. - This is the time and place to use NO ENCOUNTER. And the only place =) - You can't go anywhere while you are dodging so don't go save after you hit 100. - The way I did it... I went up north from the Inn, and found a crater. At that location, I would watch for the flash, and avoid. Then a half second later, another flash. A break of about 3 second would happen then another flash followed by a quick one. The pattern repeats. *** Step 2: Find the little rocks that glow in the dark, and pray at those rocks. Then follow a barely (very barely) visible little green guy that's ghost-like, until he stops. Pray to the tower, and a chest will appear. Get the Spirit Lance. *** Step 3: While you were running around praying, did you capture monsters? I hope you did, because if not, stay here and get 5 of each type! ------------------------------------------------- 5.2.8 - Mars Crest (Auron) and Masamune (Auron) ------------------------------------------------- ::Monsters you need to capture on Mi'Hihen Road:: Mi'ihen Fang, Ipiria, Floating Eye, White Element, Raldo, Vouivre, Bomb, Dual Horn ::Monsters you need to capture on Mushroom Rock:: Thunder Flan, Gandarewa, Raptor, Lamashtu, Red Element Funguar and Garuda. ::Monsters you need to capture on Djose Highroad:: Bite bug, Garm, Bunyip, Simurgh, Snow Flan, Basilisk, Ochu *** Step 1: Fly to Mi'ihen Highroads and start walking north. Remember to capture them monsters! Keep walking north until you see a save sphere and bunch of cages. Now, make a turn to the right, and head south. This is Mi'ihen's old road. Keep going south until you see a chest (it's VERY FAR south). Inside the chest is Auron's Mars Crest. On this path is where you'll find Ipiria and Vouivre. *** Step 2: Go north from the crest, continuing to capture monsters as you leave (make sure you got 5 of each), and head north to Mushroom rocks from the cages. As you go north, capture monsters. You'll soon see two forks to the left. Go to the second fork and head up the platform to power up the Rusty Sword. You'll get Masamune for Auron. *** Step 3: Since you are in this area, keep going north as you capture monsters. You'll see a big rat tail looking thing in the next screen, go up and you'll arrive to the aftermath of the fight. Go north and around to arrive in Djose Highroad. Capture monsters here as you keep going north. Make sure you got 5 of each (remember to visit Moonflow if there is a monster you aren't getting). Simurgh is very rare, but could be found near the sign where the fork to the Temple or the Moonflow is. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.2.9 - Godhand (Rikku), Mercury Sigil (Rikku), and Mercury Crest (Rikku) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ::Monsters you need to capture on Sanubia Desert:: Alcyone, Sand Wolf, Sand Worm, Mushussu, Zuu, Cactuar *** Step 1: Enter the password "GODHAND" on airship to get to Mushroom Rock where Godhand is. Open the chest, and you'll get it. *** Step 2: Fly to Bikanel Island, and make your way north till you hit the area with huge sandstorm. At the south end of the sandstorm, is a rock with a picture of Cactuar on it. Talk to it to begin the quest for Mercury Sigil. Leave NO ENCOUNTER off, and welcome the random battles. Since you WANT to capture them =) 1) Tomay - Find him playing in a little teepee where you first came in from airship. The minigame is weird. When you see message on screen, you can't move. As soon as message disappears, run toward him. STOP, as soon as he turns around. Repeat until you reach him. Save before you talk with him to begin the minigame. 2) Rovivea - You can find him in the northwestern dead end section of the area north of where you found Tomay. 3) Chava - He is hidden behind a sign. You don't know where he is. You won't see where he is until you pushed (X) on the sign. The sign is the one southwest of where you talk to the cactuar stone. Just hit (X) on all of them till you find the right one. 4&5) Alek & Aloja - From where you found Chava, head west and south and you'll find them in the next area over running back and forth. 6) Vachella - From where you found Rovivea, go to the savepoint and save. Then, when you get out of the savepoint, he'll leap out at you. 7) Robeya - From where you found Alek & Aloja, go south and west till you find a box with a closed treasure chest. He is inside, hiding. 8) Isrra - He is hiding in the whirling sand pit near the Cactura praying stone. Just hop in and you'll find him. 9) Elio - Find him at where you found Tomay, then go up to the airship's roof (where you usually fight Sin). 10) Flaile - When you get Elio, and turn in the last stone, you'll meet him. After you got Flaile, go up and over to the right to the middle. Open the chest to get Mercury Sigil. *** Step 3: In the place where you found Isrra, just go west a bit, and you should find a chest with the Mercury Crest inside. *** Step 4: You got all the monsters? If so, good! Get outta there. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.2.10 - Jupiter Sigil (Wakka), Jupiter Crest (Wakka), and World Champion (Wakka) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ::Monsters you need to capture at Kilka Forest:: Killer Bee, Ragora, Dinonix, Yellow Element *** Step 1: Fly off to Kilika Port. Then from there, head to Kilika Forest and capture at least 5 of each monster. Then if you don't have Tidus's Jecht Shot, take the boat ride to Luca and get Jecht Shot now! *** Step 2: Arrive at Luca and proceed to Besaid Auroch's locker room to find the Jupiter Crest. *** Step 3: Play some blitzball. Here is the best way (in my opinion) to get Wakka's Jupiter Sigil FAST if you've only played 2 games of Blitzball up till now. First is to get Attack Reels. This is from the Tournament winning prize. - If the prize is set already, do reset team data. - If it's blacked out and not a selectable playing option, then do exhibition game then forfeiting. After you forfeit, do not continue playing -- but exit and save. so you can soft reset and keep checking for the Tournament prize. If the prize doesn't show up for 10 resets, do a reset team data again, and forfeit exhibition game. Eventually, it'll be there without you playing a real single game of blitzball. Second to get is Status Reel. This is from the League winning prize. - If the prize is set already, do reset team data. - If you had just won the tournament game, 99.9% chance that it would not be the status reel, do reset team data. - Just do reset team data if you are going after status reel and it isn't the prize. - Keep resetting team data till you get the sucker up there. Third to get is Auroch Reel. This is from the tournament winning prize. - Do what you did for the Attack Reel for Auroch Reel. Don't feel bad about resetting team data. just do it =) Fourth to get is Jupiter Sigil. Do the same as you did for Status Reel. - Now, you have to be thinking, ALL this reset, how am I suppose to win against the opponent? It isn't really difficult. Once you see the prize you want up on the playing option, cancel out the game and get up into your airship. 1) Go to Luca and recruit Wedge. He is guarding the stadium, right above the stairway leading to your Auroch's locker room. 2) In the airship, recruit Brother. He is the one piloting the ship. 3) In Luca, go down and travel to near the water fountain, and recruit Jumal. He should be sitting on a bench somewhere. With these three, you should not have a problem winning. Put Tidus on LF or RF, put Brother on MF, put Wedge on LF or RF, put Jumal on Goalie. Put whoever you want as defense. When game starts, you'll get the ball eventually no matter what. Whoever gets the ball, pass the ball over to Brother. Soon as he gets the ball, swim toward the opponent's goal. And swim up and over and back toward your own goal. This'll entice all the enemy to swim after him. Soon as you see the triangles lagging behind Brother, pass the ball all the way to Wedge. Wedge should be able to score against all the goalies except for Nimrook. After you score 2 points using the method above, you should be in the second half or... nearly there. This is where it is a bit different. You will place Wedge and Tidus as guards, and whoever you want as Forwards. Brother will stay as MF. Now, you will get the ball... pass to Brother. And as Brother, you will swim till the triangles aren't on top of you. Then, you will pass the ball over to Tidus or Wedge in the back. Swim Tidus or Wedge as close to your goalie as possible, and you will notice something special. The enemy will not come after you. If they do, you did something wrong =) But it shouldn't matter. Now, pass the ball back and forth between Wedge and Tidus, and just keep doing it until the game finishes. Tidus should now be leveled up enough to have a technique slot. Get Jecht shot going. Use the method above to get ball to Tidus without too many guards blocking, and you should be able to score no problem. If you are playing a League game, by the end, you should be able to score against Nimrook no problem as well. If you could, get Brother going with the passing game too. *** Step Four: To get the World Champion, head south from the save sphere when you come out of the airship. Continue east at the first fork, then keep going north at the park. You'll go through a door to see a bar. Talk to the bar lady and you'll get the world champion after you show her the mirror. *** Step Five: Pat yourself on the back, you've done it! To get all the ultimate weapons, it took me around 30 hours (Wakka took me 20 hours since I didn't know the above and kept doing tournaments after tournaments). If you are good, you could probably do this all in about a day's work. ---------------------------------------- 5.3 - Capture the Rest of the Monsters ---------------------------------------- *** Step 1: Board the airship and goto Lake Macalania. Capture the rest of the snow field section of the monsters there. They are - Evil Eye, Snow Wolf, Mafdet, Ice Flan. *** Step 2: Buy Empty Slot armor for Auron, Wakka, and Tidus at Wantz (O'aka's brother). - Customize them with Auto-Phoenix - Mega Phoenix x20. (You get it since you've captured all the bird type from Monster Arena). - Customize one or two with Confuse Proof - Musk x48 (Fight the Macalania Evil Eye and bribe it for 6,200 Gil). - Customize one or two with Poison Proof - Poison Fang x12 (You get it since you captured all the monsters from Kilka). - Customize one or two with Auto Med - Remedy x20. - Customize Wakka with Auto-Haste - Chocobo Wing x80 (You get it since you captured all the monsters from Thunder Plains). - Customize however you like really but leave a slot open on Tidus's armor. Refer to CB!'s Equipment Remodeling Guide found at http://home.san.rr.com/circe/. *** Step 3: Board the airship and head to Sin. The monsters right now, are still difficult, but you can kill them (since you've captured so many darn things, your Auron, Wakka, and Tidus should be moderately leveled up). Keep Auron equipped with his Masamune (First Strike). And have someone other than Wakka and Tidus learn Flee. When inside Sin, DO NOT try to capture 5 if your characters are weak. When I did it, it was a monstrous task to capture King Behemoth. After I got one, I fleed from them whenever I encountered them. No Encounter helps lot! Retreat back to the save sphere and save whenever you get a monster that you need. 1) Adamantoise - Use armor break, and pound away at it till it dies. Quick Hit and Haste are a plus. But he shouldn't be too tough. 2) Both Gemini - Armor Break, pound away. 3) Wraith - They do Doom, but, with only 22,222 HP, just pound away at it. 4) Barbatos - They do a weird thing called Mortar. Shouldn't hurt much, but be careful. They only appear in the city area, after you defeat Seymour. 5) Exoray - They counter with Sleep. A big pain in the butt. Cast on them till they are low on health, and then capture! 6) Great Malboro - These are difficult =( With first strike, Auron will have capability to always go first. I recommend summoning Anima to do a lot of hurt pain before attacking to capture him. 7) Demonolith - They counter with Pharaoh's curse. Use a summon to whittle their health down, then capture. You'll find a lot of them with Barbatos. 8) Behemoth King - They aren't very tough, but before they die, they do Meteor! Make sure your characters have full health. I'm not sure if Shell & Protect help, but smack them on just in case they do! *** Step 4: Board the airship and head to Omega Ruins. Search around the coordinate of X = 70 and Y = 35. In the Omega Ruins, before you do anything - SAVE. Venture out as far as you like, and begin capturing things. Soon, you'll find more Zaurus and Mimic boxes than you could imagine. If you want to, you can defeat the Mimic boxes now to get a lot of money, but it is not necessary. Just earn about 2 million gil if you can. Do the same as you did in Sin, capture one of each (Other than Floating Death, you need 4 of them), and flee from any that you've already captured. 1) Zaurus - Fast, but could be beat down easily. They stone you, so be careful. 2) Floating Death - High evade! Get Wakka to beat him down. You'll need four of them. Try your best to kill them. They might attack you with Confuse. 3) Black Element - These are not fun. They berserk you, causing you to lose control. They show up with Spirit too. And Spirit confuses and poisons you! But, if you get rid of the Spirits first, they shouldn't be very difficult. 4) Puroboros - A bit tough. You have to kill it for 20,000 hp before they blow up. I used Anima to whittle down their HP with one hit, and then dismissed her to get Wakka to capture. 5) Spirit - I hate them. I didn't customize my armor, so they were a pain. They retaliate with Poison Breath that will kill your entire party (because of Poison). Be careful around them. Once you capture one, kill it first before capturing whatever else is with them. 6) Machea - They aren't so bad =) Regular insects. 7) Master Coeurl - Kitties are always nice. Kill them fast. 8) Varuna - They'll Haste first. So Haste yourself too. Use Auron's Banishing Blade then smack him down. 9) Master Tonberry - Ugh, a pain to find 10. But, you'll find one during all this. He isn't hard to kill, so don't worry. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.4 - Getting Ragnarok, Heavenly Axis, and Blowout (Triple AP, Triple Overdrive, Overdrive -> AP) weapons ----------------------------------------------------------------------- - This section isn't necessary if you are willing to spend time getting Karma to hit one of your low HP character for 99,999 HP. *** Step 1: Go back to monster arena. *** Step 2: Fight One-Eye. *** Step 3: Repeat Step 2 until you get 7 different weapons, each with 3 slots (2 customizable). This took me 4 hours - Tidus's Durandal always showed up with 2 slots only. *** Step 4: Customize Tidus, Wakka, and Yuna's weapon with Triple Overdrive, and Overdrive -> AP. Thus, creating ultimate AP Gaining Weapons. ---------------------------------------------------- 5.5 - Getting 99 S. Levels in less than 30 seconds ---------------------------------------------------- :Note: You don't need to capture many monsters to do this. Just get Dingo and 1 of each monster in Sunken Cavern. Or you could capture 1 of each monster in Mi'ihen for Kottos. For AP, he is just as effective when the lamb has ultra low HP. *** Step 1: If you haven't gotten Overdrive -> AP ability on your weapon, do so now. You should've gotten 99x Door to Tomorrow after capturing so many darn monsters. If not, you could bribe for 2x for 74,000 GIL near Mt Gagazet. Customize your weapon with the ability. *** Step 1a: It is much preferred if you would kill One-Eye to get the good weapons as well as get +4 Magic Defense Spheres. But it is not necessary. *** Step 2: Pick the one person that have the lowest HP; I find Rikku to be the lowest in HP. From this point on, the one person will be referred to as the sacrificial lamb. * Note * - If you are clearing the sphere grid like in the next section, you'll end up with Rikku having 360 HP if you did not move her through the sphere grid +300 HP yet. - If all your characters already have really high HP, and they all are from HP+300 spheres, then you should be uber already and probably don't need to gain 99 S.Levels fast. - If your characters do have high HP but from +200 HP spheres, then capture 5 monsters from every area to be able to buy Clear Sphere from the Vendor. Use the clear spheres to clear up +200 HP Spheres that the sacrificial lamb has activated. *** Step 3: Go fight Don Tonberry, and hit him with the sacrificial lamb that you chose in Step 2. If Karma doesn't hit you for more than 50,000 HP, then you should whip out your turbo controller. If he does hit for more than 50K HP, proceed onto Step 5. If you don't want to bother with Step 4, use Kottos as the one you pick your fight with in Step 5. *** Step 4: Group your lamb with two other characters that are slow (low agility). Get First Strike ability on your lamb's weapon. If you want, give the lamb Auto-Haste ability. On the two other characters, give one Auto-Phoenix ability if you want (not necessary though). Now, go to monster arena. Select Fight Monsters, and tape down (X) on your turbo controller. - What this will do is, make you fight Dingo over and over and over. You will slaughter him each and every time. - After a few hours, test out how much damage Don Tonberry's Karma will do to you now. If it is above 50k, go to the next step. (I get about 15K ? increase every hour or so) *** Step 5: Put your sacrificial lamb with the other two characters you want to level up. Remember to equip weapons with Overdrive -> AP. Go fight Don Tonberry. Hit Don Tonberry with your lamb. Lamb will get killed. Do Guard with the next character, and then Flee with the last character. *** Step 6: Watch your S.Level increase to 99 if you have Triple AP, Triple OD, and Overdrive -> AP on the two other characters. [The Idea Behind This] - If you haven't figured out the basis of this trick by now, I shall explain. Section 1 - A brief history ---------------------------- After becoming ultra uber, my characters all had 80,000 HP, +255 in all stats but luck, I discovered that I'd forgotten to activate some nodes when I ran out of Power Spheres. But Tidus ran out of S.Levels, so without hesitation, I equipped Ragnarok and proceeded to execute the AP Trick as devised by CronoEye. But after 5 minutes of smacking him, I discovered that I've only gained 10 S.Levels! Something was dreadfully wrong. I thought -- maybe Karma only does 99,999 damage to Tidus on the surface, but the actual code behind Overdrive calculations actually take into effect of his defense and magic defense. To test this, I bought a bunch of clear spheres, and cleared out defense spheres. I went back to do it again with Tonberry, but it didn't work still. So I did it with magic defense. Didn't work. I pondered about this, and remembered my Shinryu trick, where Rikku was being used to power up overdrive for Tidus and Wakka. So, I tested the amount of Overdrive gained with their respective Ultimate Weapon. And to my shock, I found that when Tonberry retaliates with Karma, comrade mode was only giving 80% Overdrive to Wakka! I switch characters, did a couple of entrusts, and found that if I used Auron to attack, overdrive shot through the roof. I then equipped Wakka's and Tidus's Overdrive->AP weapons, and had Auron attack a couple of times. And bam, 99 S.Level instantly! Slowly, the realization hit me. Section 2 - The trick itself. ------------------------------ No one ever explained how each Overdrive mode really works. They just say, if you get damaged, your comrades will gain overdrive. So, one naturally assumes, the more you get hurt, the more Overdrive (AP) you'd get. Very not true. Comrade overdrive mode, along with Stoic over drive mode, work based on the ratio of the damage taken over the total HP you have. Overdrive = DAMAGE / HP So let us say, you got 50,000 damage, and you only have 400 HitPoints. Overdrive = 50,000/400 = 125 Doesn't seem like much, but you have to compare =) If you have 9,999 HP, which is Overdrive = 50,000/9999 = 5. The difference is very BIG. It might be hard to believe, but it is HOW the equation works. Here is the break down -- when Karma hits you for 99,999. And you have the following amount of HP, your friends will get the corresponding AP. AP < 5,000 - 100,000 hp (rounded the HP) AP 50,000 - 10,000 hp (rounded the HP) AP 500,000 - 1,000 hp (rounded the HP) AP 1,250,000 - 360 hp *I have tested the above. My Auron gets hit with Karma for 99,999. He has a measly 1000 HP. My Wakka also gets hit with Karma for 99,999. He has 80,000 HP or 9,999 HP, depending on the armor. I extrapolated the first data points. - With Rikku getting hit ONCE for 57,700 HitPoints from Karma when her HP is 360. I got approximiately 700,000 AP points with Tidus equipped with only Overdrive -> AP. If I had Triple AP & Triple Overdrive, Tidus would've gotten 6 million AP points. In laymen's term, 700,000 AP = 31 S. Level. And 6,000,000 AP points = 272 S. Level. - With Rikku getting hit ONCE for 99,999 HitPoints from Karma, got about 1,250,000 AP Points with Wakka equipped with only Overdrive -> AP. The above idea wasn't found in CronoRye or Gamepro2817/ORCA782's AP FAQs as of (2/4/2002). Their idea is simply to get hit over and over, and your AP will go up. It's true, but it isn't the smartest way to do it. So, now you know how to get AP fast, move on to the next section. ------------------------- 5.6 - Becoming UBER ^_^ ------------------------- The sphere grid contains many useless +1, +2, and even +3 nodes. And many more empty nodes that need to be filled with happy +4 nodes. But your stats can only max out at 255 (except for HP and MP). So you must learn how many nodes you should activate with what type, since there are already a certain number of +4 stat nodes pre-existing on the sphere grid. JungleJim have graciously studied the Sphere Grid and learned how many +4 of each stat already is on the sphere grid. And it is as follows (from Section 4.1). 23 - Strength +4 12 - Defense +4 17 - Magic +4 16 - Magic Defense +4 21 - Agility +4 19 - Evade +4 4 - Accuracy + 4 2 - Luck +4 7 - MP +40 0 - HP + 300 So with this in mind, the calculation goes as follows. 255 / 4 = 64. And 64 - (Whatever exists) equals to however many stat spheres we would need to become Uber. We will need - 41 - Strength +4 51 - Defense +4 46 - Magic +4 47 - Magic Defense +4 42 - Agility +4 44 - Evade +4 59 - Accuracy +4 58 - Luck +4 ??? - HP +300 ??? - MP +99 Please note that the numbers above take into consideration your starting stats. It might be possible that there are variations, so if one of your characters is missing one or two points, feel free to delete a +300 HP node and add in whatever is necessary. HP and MP are totally up to you. After the +255 stats, you can play around with numbers to see how many you need. Personally, I went with what JungleJim suggested. 18 more MP +40 spheres for 999 mana, and the rest goes to HP +300. And also, since I don't think Luck helps at all, the 58 spheres reserved for +4 Luck are also going to HP +300. So, without further ado, here is my way of doing it all. *** Step 1: Go back to Sin and Omega Ruin, and slaug.. I mean, capture them. Get at least 5 each. This time, don't let any Mimic boxes pass you by, slaughter them for good money. Make sure to have Rikku in your party. *** Step 2: Back at the Monster Arena, buy 99 clear spheres. If you haven't fully trained Wakka, and Tidus yet, do so now. *** Step 3: Start with Juggernaut. Don't try to fight him yet. As soon as you get into battle, summon the Magus Sisters, and have Mindy execute Passado. It should do a fair amount of damage now (more than fair really). Do this until you get 41 strength spheres. Then, using one of your characters (Tidus, Wakka, or Yuna), clear away all the spheres that don't have +4 in front of it, clear away all the +200 HP Spheres, clear away all the +20 or +10 MP spheres. Replace with +4 Strength spheres. As you are going along, replacing and putting in +4 strength spheres, activate them as well. When you are done with the strength spheres, get the other two to activate all the nodes as well. *** Step 4: Fight against Tanket next. Equip your ultimate weapons now, since you'd see a surprising difference in how much you can damage now that you have +255 strength. Smack the living crap out of Tanket with quick hits. He'll die before he gets a turn. Get 51 +4 Defense spheres. *** Step 5: Remember you fighting with One-Eye for those priceless AP Trick weapons? Well, while you were fighting them, you were getting +4 Magic Defense spheres (I got 99 of them before I received all the weapons I wanted). Use 47 of them. *** Step 6: Your aeons are now nearly invincible! You will fight against Jumbo Flan next to wrestle +4 Magic Sphere away from him. Add Haste, Slow, Reflect, and Dispel onto Anima's list of abilities. Now add Auto-Reflect ability onto any armor on any one of the three people. When you start battling against Jumbo Flan, cast slow onto the auto-reflected character, then summon Anima. Now, have Anima cast Haste on himself, and begin doing Pain on Jumbo Flan. It should do 99,999 each time. When Jumbo Flan retaliates with any spell (Ultima included), it'd do a pathetic amount of damage. If you forgot to slow in the beginning with your characters, have Anima reflect himself, and cast slow on himself. Get 47 +4 Magic Spheres. *** Step 7: Now fight against Hornet. Just smack him with quick hits till he dies. No problem here. You are already invincible =) Get 59 +4 Accuracy Spheres. *** Step 8: Fenrir is your next target. With +255 Accuracy rating, you should be able to hit him without any problem. Get 42 +4 Agility Spheres. *** Step 9: Pteryx the flying bird, will be slaughtered! Get 44 +4 Evade Spheres from him. *** Step 10: Start laughing at Vidatu and kill him with one hit. Get as many +40 MP Spheres as you need. *** Step 11: Now comes the hard part. Getting a crapload of HP Spheres from Ironclad. I don't have a fast way to do this. You just got to pound him down with 99,999 each time as he keep missing you in his retaliations. It takes me about 2 minutes to kill him each time. I got a turbo controller just for killing him! If you want to try another way (if you got bored), you could have Auron use Banishing Blade, then summon Magus Sisters to do Passado. Zemus from www.gamefaqs.com suggests having Auron in stoic mode with not a lot of HP and Wakka with Tidus in the group. Auron will execute Banishing Blade and get countered with a slash. The slash will boost Auron's overdrive to max again while filling Wakka and Tidus's overdrive as well. Allowing you to execute Attack Reel and BlitzAce. * Note: Redoing the grid took me around 30 hours. That includes Tidus, Wakka and Yuna becoming godly. It would've taken me 10 more hours I bet, had I tried to do Luck spheres. *** Step 12: The last step is getting Break HP Limit for each of your characters. You need x30 Wings to Discovery to customize your armor with the ability. If you are rich, you can bribe Malboros for them. If you are poor, you can kill Shinryu for them. I prefer to slaughter Shinryu since it's so easy. As you are going through, clearing spheres, your other 4 characters are becoming weaker and weaker unfortunately. This IS a good thing, because now, you will have weak Rikku in your party alongside with Tidus and Wakka. 1) Get Rikku Auto-Haste, Auto-Phoenix, and Master Thief ability on her armor. 2) Then, do the AP Trick with Rikku and move her to your +4 Agility section of the sphere grid. Get her agility up. 3) At the start of the battle, if Wakka or Tidus have their Overdrive up, execute Attack Reel or BlitzAce. 4) Get Rikku to mug from Shinryu. Shinryu kills Rikku. Wakka's and Tidus's overdrive meter shoots up. 5) Do Attack Reel and BlitzAce. 6) Repeat from Step 4. This should kill Shinryu in about 3 minutes or less. And you'll be on your way to x30 Wings to Discovery. * Note - If you are trying to get S. Levels while you have 80K of Hitpoints, you'll encounter some problems. Refer to my AP trick in the section above. ------------------ 5.7 - Conclusion ------------------ So now, Tidus, Wakka, and Yuna have +255 on all the stats but Luck (or if you choose to have luck, then you are probably still killing earth eaters). They also have +999 mana and around 80,000 hitpoints. What's next? -- Go kill Nemesis! Go laugh at Yu Yevon as it tries to attack you! Do whatever you like. You are already more powerful than mere mortals =) After you have your fun, it is time to power up your other 4 characters. *** Step 1: Killing Ultima Buster - He'll cast Ultima at you. Lets all go.. ooooo, and ahhhhh, at the 3000 hp it takes away from your 80,000 hp =) Kill his head, his two arms, and quick hit his body with turboed button till he dies. (He usually gets only 1 turn for me). You want him to drop Triple AP, Triple Overdrive, Overdrive -> AP weapons with another blank slot for your 7 characters. Even if he doesn't drop it, he drops Winning Formula x2 for you (which eventually becomes Triple Overdrive). *** Step 2: Go do AP Trick with the other 4 characters, power them up to godly status. *** Step 3: Pat yourself on the back. You are as strong as strong can be =) ------------------ 5.8 - Example of Gaining S.Levels in Action ------------------ The following example utilizes my actual character at 129hr 33min. So everything actually happened. The version of FF X that I have is the American version that I pre-ordered from Electronic Boutique. First, some background informations about the characters that I will use in the example. Tidus --------------- HP: 83920/83920 MP: 999/ 999 NEXT S.Lvl: 22000 Weapon: Ragnarok (Triple AP + Triple Overdrive + Overdrive -> AP) Armor : Genji Shield (Auto-[Phoenix, Med, Haste] + Break HP Limit) Overdrive Mode = Comrade Wakka --------------- HP: 84018/84018 MP: 999/ 999 NEXT S.Lvl: 22000 Weapon: Rookie Star (Overdrive -> AP) Armor : Super Goalie (Auto-[Phoenix, Med, Haste] + Break HP Limit) Overdrive Mode = Comrade Rikku --------------- HP: 360/ 360 MP: 999/ 999 NEXT S.Lvl: 22000 Weapon: Golden Arm (Triple AP + Overdrive -> AP) Armor : Buccaneer (Auto-[Phoenix, Med, Haste] + Master Thief) Overdrive Mode = Stoic ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Now we are ready to begin. I will say step by step, what I'm doing. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Got into Airship, flew to Calm Lands. 2) Talked to Chocobo Lady south of the save sphere, and rode chocobo to the monster arena. 3) Got off of the chocobo, went inside and talked to the Monster Arena trainer. 4) Picked option - "Fight monsters" 5) Picked option - "Area Conquest" then goto the next page 5) Picked option - "Don Tonberry" 6) Select Yes. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Now we enter battle against Don Tonberry ----------------------------------------------------------------------- * Preemptive Strike * (Round 1) Tidus active first - I hit (TRIANGLE) to guard. Wakka active second - I hit (TRIANGLE) to guard. Rikku active third - I hit (CIRCLE) to attack Don Tonberry. * Rikku hits Don Tonberry for 9,999 HitPoints. * Don Tonberry counters with Karma against Rikku for 99,999 HitPoints. * Tidus used Phoenix Down automatically on Rikku * Rikku revives with 180/360 HP. (Round 2) Tidus active first - I selected option "Special," then "Flee." * Battle finishes * AP Earned Tidus : 11,000,880 AP Wakka : 1,222,320 AP Rikku : 5,500,440 AP Items, equipment, and Gil earned. - No items found. ================================== 6.0 - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ================================== a.
