I don't know when the next update to it will be, so just wait and see what's going to come next! Oh, and if you want to use this script on your website, go ahead. There aren't enough Arc the Lad related sites as it is. Just be sure to link back to my website (http://www.cyber-genki.net). Spoken text is written like this: LUTZ Picking berries sucks. See, the speaker's name is in caps, and what they say is on the next line, in regular font. If the speaker says multiple things, LUTZ Picking berries sucks. Alec is going to be a Hunter! Each time you would press the button on your game controller, it continues to another line. Thoughts are written like this: ALEC {Why can't Lutz just keep his mouth shut?} and actions are written like this: [Alec walks across the screen.] Finally, anything I decide to add in, stuff I find funny or to clarify something, is written as follows: (I thought that was really funny.) That's it! -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- 1.) The Beginning! -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- [There is an FMV of a burning town. Young Alec is saved by a hunter from his hometown, and rides away on a wagon. He is given a sword by the Hunter. We arrive in his hometown, where he stands on a hill.] ALEC ...I often think about that terrible time. They call it the "Great Disaster" now. If it weren't for that Hunter who picked me out of the ruins, I would probably be dead. And that one kind act allowed me to grow up here, in this village I've come to love. In this place, we are all refugees of some sort from The Disaster. And, if that thought gets to be too much, I just go for a walk, like today. [There is a rustling noise.] LUTZ You're so weird! W...w...wah----! [Lutz falls out of the tree.] LUTZ Ow! Why'd ya have ta come along and blow my concentration with that corny speech? If I had just kept my balance a little longer... ...that Magic Apple would have been MINE! But, instead of the cheer of crowds and pull of seductive maidens... ...I get a sore butt. What're you doing out here, anyway? It's a long walk from the village. ALEC I remembered another fragment from when I was little. LUTZ Is this about the Hunter again? ALEC Yes, the Hunter... LUTZ ...I know, I know! "The Hunter snatched me from the fire." "Then the Hunter gave me this incredible sword." "The Hunter, The Hunter, The Hunter... blah, blah, blah, barble, barble, barble..." ALEC Are you mocking me, Lutz? LUTZ Uh... why? ALEC Because it sounds as if you are. it may not be important to you, but those memories are all I have. LUTZ Yeah, well, I've just heard it so often, I can pracically BE you. ALEC You could... IF you had the sword. But of course, you don't. I know you've heard it a thousand times, but one day, I will be that strong... that brave. VOICE Aahh--! LUTZ What was that? It sounded like... gunshots! ALEC It WAS gunshots. And, it sounded like they came from the front of the village! We've got to get over there! LUTZ I'm already there! [They run to the village, which is being held up by bandits.] WOMAN Ahhh! LUTZ Bandits! Great! Just what we need. ALEC They're holding up the village! But why? BANDIT Well, what do we have here? ELDER Alec, Lutz, look out! [They are punched out to be with the villagers.] LUTZ Ungh... BANDIT Now that we got that outta the way, back ta business. If you sniveling charity cases wanna see tomorrow, hand over your valuables! ELDER Sir, this is a poor village, everyone here lost all they had in the Great Disaster. Our village has nothing of value. BANDIT Well, if ya ain't got any valuables, we'll take whatever supplies ya got. ELDER Aah! BANDIT Alright. To the house back... all of ya, NOW! MOVE! [The bandits leave to go in various houses in the town.] LUTZ They're in our house, Sis! BANDIT There's nothin' in here we can use! This place is a dump! Move that... LUTZ N...no! They're gonna ruin my stuff! LUTZ'S SISTER Lutz, stop! We're no match for them. If you go in there, they'll kill you! BANDIT Hey! What? Do you brats think we wasn't talkin' ta you? Get movin' to the back house, 'fore I introduce ya ta the business end of this shotgun. [Alec, Lutz, and Lutz's sister move to the back house. Once inside...] LUTZ This is bad... those bandits aren't going to let us go free. ELDER If only there were a way to get word to the Hunters' Guild. A Hunter could protect us. ALEC A Hunter? ELDER They're the best kind of mercenaries... working for good. LU TZ Where's this "Guild?" ALEC Yes. If a Hunter can save us, I'll go hire one. ELDER The guild is too far away... in Itio. You'd never get there and back in time. LUTZ'S SISTER Besides, you'd have to cross Tohde Bridge to get there. The area around that bridge is crawling with monsters. ALEC We must do SOMETHING. I'm willing to at least try. LUTZ I'll go, too! Maybe I can get a little payback for the mess they've made of my house. ELDER Hmm... perhaps you're right. We haven't got much choice but to let you try. If we do nothing, these bandits will destroy our village at best. I shudder to think of what the worst would bring. LUTZ'S SISTER But... this is Lutz and Alec we're talking abo... ELDER Do you have another willing individual in mind? LUTZ'S SISTER Um, n...no... ... ELDER Well then, boys, it's up to you. You must hurry to the Hunters' Guild in Itio and ask a Hunter to run these bandits off. ALEC You can count on us! ELDER Here. Take this money. You'll need it as a bounty for the Hunter. ALEC I understand. TEXT BOX Bounty Money Recieved! ELDER Oh, and one more thing. Here... take this book. It's a battle manual I've hard since I was a lad not much older than yourselves. If you run into trouble, it might be of assistance. ALEC Thank you. LUTZ'S SISTER Here! Take these herbs, in case you need to heal a wound. TEXT BOX Herbs recieved! ALEC Thanks, Kuretta. (So, now we know that Lutz's sister's name is Kuretta.) KURETTA Listen... I'm going to distract that bandit over there so you can slip away. LUTZ But, Sis! KURETTA If I don't do it, you'll never get out of here alive. Wish me luck... ALEC Good... luck... [Kuretta goes over to the bandit.] KURETTA Oooh, what a nice, strong man you are. BANDIT Whad are ya doin'? Get back! KURETTA I just remembered where some treasure from the village was being kept... ...and I thought a big, strong man like you would be perfect to carry it. Then... maybe we could run off and spend some of it together? BANDIT Treasure? KURETTA Yes. Lots of it, but it's hidden. BANDIT If yer lyin', so help me, missy, I'll twist your neck in two! (...Owch.) KURETTA It's there, no lie. Let me show you... [They leave the house.] LUTZ Sis! ELDER Hurry... now! When he finds out he's been decieved, he'll fly into a rage. Before you leave, be sure to write in the journal in case you meet an untimely end. ALEC I will. Okay, Lutz, we need to get to Itio in a hurry! LUTZ I'm right behind ya! [They leave the house.] LUTZ Sis... ALEC Lutz... come ON! We need to hurry or she WILL be in big trouble. LUTZ Yeah... yeah, right. Coming. Hold on, Sis, hold on... [End of scene!] -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- 2.) Monsters at Tohde Bridge! -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- LUTZ ? Ahh! Monsters! ALEC Lutz, they TOLD us there were going to be monsters here! LUTZ But... uh, I was hoping they'd be sleepin' or somethin'. ALEC You were hoping for too much, I'd wager. But we have to get to Itio, so there's no choice but to fight. LUTZ Well, I guess... Wait! What about the book? The battle manual! ALEC Right. Perhaps it has something to help us win this fight easily. Man, this thing is OLD. The pages are really yellowed. Oh, here's the title. {Here is the Battle Primer section. There's nothing of major importance to the game here, so we'll just skip over it.) ALEC All right. Let's make short work of these pests. [They engage the monsters.] ALEC We did it! LUTZ Alec... do you... feel it? ALEC Feel what? LUTZ I don't know... like there's some kind of power in me. ALEC Yes, I felt it too. During the fight, it felt like I was invincible! Now I feel like we can do ANYTHING! Itio, here we COME! Okay, Lutz... we're going... we're going... [End scene!] -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- 03.) Hire a Hunter! -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- LUTZ Wow! This...is...amazing. There's no other word for it! Man, I think I like this city already. Nah... scratch that... I LOVE the city already! ALEC It certainly is much different from Sasha Village. We could easily get lost in here. LUTZ Who cares?! Where do we start? ALEC We have to get to the Guild. LUTZ I KNOW that. I meant, where do we look for the Guild? ALEC I don't know. this is my first time here, too. If we ask around, perhaps we can get directions from someone here. LUTZ Not brilliant, but worth a shot! [Lutz joins you to look for someone. When you reach the Hunters' Guild...] ALEC Is this the Hunters' Guild? HUNTER You got the right place. What's the trouble, kid? You're white as a ghost! ALEC Bandits! Our village... bandits have taken my village! LUTZ Yeah! And... and my sister's in trouble! They're gonna... HUNTER Whoa! Calm down, I'm sure we can help. Just tell the guy at the window... ALEC Y...yes... uh, thank you. [They go to the window.] ALEC Our village is being attacked by bandits. They have the whole village hostage. I need a Hunter to help. I...I brought some money for a reward. MAN Well, this looks like a big emergency, eh? We'll take care of ya, kid. Sit tight. I've got a request that needs to be taken immediately. We have a village under attack by bandits. Pretty standard fare, guys. Who's up for it? GUY I'll take it. MAN Leegle? I knew you'd take this one. Piece of cake for ya, eh? LEEGLE Should be no problem. Bandits won't know what hit 'em. I'll have this group bawling like babies in no time. Okay, kid. I've taken your request. Show me the way to your village. ALEC Okay, follow me! [End scene!] -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- 04.) Save the Village! -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- BANDIT No more lies! We're not going anywhere until I get a real answer. Now... we're gonna ask you one more time real nice, and I expect a straight answer. If you give me another lie, that pretty little throat of yours is gonna run red. BANDIT 2 You heard him. Where's the treasure? KURETTA Yes... um, well... ...it's in the feed. BANDIT This cow feed? BANDIT 2 You idiot! That's an OX! And, no! She'e lying! I already checked the troughs! KURETTA Oh dear...I...I... BANDIT That was your last mistake, you lying little sack of... LEEGLE Not another step! BANDIT Who do you think you are? LEEGLE A Hunter. Or, more precisely, a Hunter hired to stick a boot in your backsides. BANDIT I'd like to see you try! GET HIM! LEEGLE I love this part of the job... check this out. [He uses magic on the bandits, who are knocked down.] ALEC Amazing... LEEGLE Okay, now on to the main event. Who's next? BANDIT Uh...uh... we don't want no more trouble, mister. BANDIT 2 Yeah...yeah. Don't kill us. We'll give back everything we took! BANDIT 3 We weren't gonna really hurt anyone...honest! KURETTA Oh, you were wonderful! [The scene switches to back in the back house.] BANDIT We thought this village out here would be easy pickin's... We weren't lookin' to hurt anyone for real. We're starvin'. We needed to buy food. We thought there was a treasure here we could steal real easy-like to get some cash. But we never figured that you'd summon a Hunter to take us down. We learned our lesson. It won't happen again... you have my word. LEEGLE Well, there ya go. You got the word of a rouge and a scoundrel. What do ya want me to do with 'em? BANDIT H...hey! Uh, wait! These guys are gonna apologize, too! RIGHT, guys? BANDIT 2 We're sorry! BANDIT 4 My mother would be so ashamed... BANDIT 3 Uh... can you find it in your hearts to forgive us? ELDER Well, we can't be certain they are trustworthy, that is true. However, everyone should be entitled to a second chance. BANDIT that's mighty kind of ya. ELDER Tut! Tut! Don't thank me yet. I have one more thing to add. I was about to say... IF you try this again, we shall summon another Hunter, at which time you will not find us so forgiving. BANDIT We won't be tryin' none of this again! Thanks for bein' so understanding! Let's go, guys! [They leave the house.] ELDER You've certainly proven the value of the Hunters' Guild today, sir. You saved our bacon in more ways than one. LEEGLE Pshaw! Your reward was certainly generous for a job so easy. Those rogues were strictly amateur, and I was happy to help. ELDER You are most kind, and a welcome guest in our humble village any time. LEEGLE Thank you. KURETTA Mr. Hunter... LEEGLE Please, call me Leegle. "Mr." makes me feel so...old! KURETTA Well, Leegle, we'd be honored to have you as a guest in our home. Will you eat with us? LEEGLE That's certainly a kind offer, but... KURETTA You must come! It's the least I can do in return for what you did out there! LEEGLE Well... all right. KURETTA Wonderful! Come with me! [The two of them leave the house.] ALEC Okay Lutz, let's go. Your sister is preparing dinner. LUTZ Uh, I don't think that's such a good idea. I'm pretty sure Sis has her designs on that Hunter. I don't think she exactly wants us to rush to the house. ALEC ? ELDER Well, in any case, thank you both for working so quickly. Because of your brave journey to fetch a Hunter, our village is saved. ALEC Elder... There was one thing that happened on the way to Itio that was strange. We got into a battle with some monsters, and a strange power enveloped me. It made me... No, it made US stronger. We both felt it. LUTZ It enabled me to attack with a huge range! ELDER Hmm... curious. Curious, indeed. ALEC What happened to us, Elder? ELDER Well, there are tales of those that channel the power of the Guardians. But, I was under the impression that they were just that... tall tales. ALEC Really? ELDER Yes. And, more than that, I would never have guessed that you two would have such a gift. However, if it is true, you have a rare gift, indeed. LUTZ Alec, do you realize what this can mean for us? ALEC Hold on, Lutz! Nothing has been confirmed in the least. LUTZ Yeah, but if it IS true, we're gonna be heroes! Think abut it... dragons, monsters, babes, riches... it's gonna be GREAT! ELDER Hmmmm, well, it shall be interesting, at least. But regardless of your destiny, what you need most at this moment is rest. ALEC I hear that. LUTZ Say, uh, Alec. Can I crash at your place? Like I said before, I don't think Sis would look on interruptions kindly. ALEC ? Sure, let's go. [Lutz joins you. When you reach Alec's place...] LUTZ Boy, what a day this has been, eh? We start the day as ignorant peasants, and end it as seasoned travelers! And, WOW! What knowledge we have! This world is a lot bigger than I'd imagined. There's lots of adventure and... and...treasure just waiting for us! ALEC There are a lot more Hunters than I'd imagined, too. LUTZ Hunters are amazing. And that Leegle guy! Talk about readin' those guys their rights! POW! Right where it hurts! ALEC Hunters are an amazing breed. One day, I... LUTZ Yes, yes. One day, you will be a Hunter. Already ahead of you there. ALEC Lutz, let's go talk to Leegle. I bet he's got a mountain of great stories! LUTZ Uh...uh...yeah, I guess Sis will have finished wooing him with din-din by now. With a full belly, maybe he'll be more inclined to spill some great stories! ... Then again, with a belly full of MY sister's cooking, he might be spilling something else... ALEC Heh! Let's go find out... [Lutz joins you. When you get to Lutz's house...] LUTZ Sis! Your favorite brother is home! ALEC I came along. I hope you don't mind. KURETTA Oh, Alec! You're never a bother. My brother, on the other hand... LUTZ Hey, what's with the rock on the table? KURETTA Isn't it beautiful? Leegle gave it to me after dinner. LUTZ Wooo! What did you give him to EAT? All I can say is that must have been SOME supper. Let's get a better look at this baby. KURETTA Touch it and you die! I'm not kidding, Lutz. It's MINE. He said it was brought from a job he did across the ocean. LUTZ Wow! I have to have a better look at it now! KURETTA You are NOT going to get your grubby mitts on it. LUTZ C'mon, Sis! Please? ALEC Ummm. Sorry to interrupt. Speaking of Leegle, where is he? KURETTA Oh, he said he was going out for a walk. Left shortly before you came in. Lutz! Get away from the table! I said NO! LUTZ Aww! C'mon! Please? Pleasepleaseplease? ALEC I'm going to go find Leegle. Are you coming, Lutz? LUTZ Yeah, once I get that amulet. But, my sister isn't cooperating. KURETTA When I say no, I mean NO, you thick-headed oaf! ALEC Well then, you two have fun. I'll be back later. [He leaves. You find Leegle near the back of the village.] ALEC Leegle... LEEGLE Oh, hello. ALEC I've been thinking. I want to be a Hunter. LEEGLE A Hunter? Ha, ha, ha, ha. What put that idea in your head? ALEC I've been saved by a Hunter twice now. The next time there is saving to be done, I want to be that Hunter. LEEGLE Well, not to discount your feelings, kid, but being a Hunter is hard work. You're always just one door down from danger. ALEC But don't you see?! That's the kind of life I want! LEEGLE Ha, ha, ha... that's the kind of life you THINK you want. Dreaming it and doing it are two different things. Listen, the truth is, when I became a Hunter, it was because I felt just as you do now. But, a Hunter's go a load of responsibility to bear. They're expected to do all sorts of things normal people can't. Exterminating monsters, stopping bandits, crossing oceans, transporting valuables... ALEC Crossing oceans? But, I heard that wasn't possible sinec the Great Disaster. Have you been across the ocean... you know, off this island? LEEGLE Yes, I have. ALEC Tell me what it's like. LEEGLE Well, there's a desert in the west, for one. People who lost their city built a brand new one. ALEC In the desert? LEEGLE Yes. I must admit, it's quite impressive. To the north is a city half-submerged in the floodwaters from The Disaster. The people live in the part of the city that's above water. That, too, is quite an amazing sight. ALEC Wow... Say, um... have you seen a city surrounded by high walls in your travels? LEEGLE High walls? No... I can't say that I have. Why? ALEC Well, in the Great Disaster, my life was saved by a Hunter in a city like that. I don't really know where it was, though. All I can remember is the flames that were everywhere, and the smoke. It was pretty bad. Maybe the city was destroyed in the fire. LEEGLE It's a big world out there. That place could be anywhere. ALEC Yeah, I know. I just still hope that, one day... ...aw, I've wasted enough of your time. I won't bother you any more. LEEGLE Listen, kid. Being a Hunter is a noble dream. Don't let anyone tell yu any differently. I just... ALEC What? LEEGLE I just don't want you to go in thinking it's going to be easy... ...'cause it's not. ALEC I don't care! I'll do whatever it takes. I want to be a Hunter and see the world. Nothing is going to stand in my way. (ooh... dramatic change in music...) LEEGLE If you're serious, and I mean if you're REALLY serious... ...ou should go to the Guild in Itio and try the test. ALEC Test? LEEGLE Yeah. There's a registration test that will gauge your skill. ALEC ... LEEGLE Pass, and you'll get a Hunter's Crest. ... And, speaking of the Guild, I should be getting back. Good luck, kid. I hope you find your dream. ALEC Don't worry, I will. [Leegle leaves. The scene switches to where everyone is saying good-bye to Leegle at the main gate of the village.] ELDER Thank you for acting to save our village. Take care in your journey back. LUTZ Can't you stay just a little while longer? I wanted to hear stories of your journeys across the world! LEEGLE I have to go, Lutz. Sorry. KURETTA You are certainly welcome to stay here any time. LEEGLE So long! Oh! Alec, I almost forgot. Here, catch! ALEC ... Leegle... TEXT BOX Magic Apple recieved! LUTZ Wow, Alec! He gave you a Magic Apple! What'd YOU do? KURETTA Lutz, enough with the chatter. Time to get back to work. We've got berries to collect to make up for what those bandits ruined. LUTZ Berries? Awww, c'mon, Sis! I HATE picking berries. KURETTA No more than I hate hearing you complain. It has to be done, so let's get it over with. LUTZ Oh, all right. But, I don't have to like it... ELDER Well, at least we have a measure of peace once again. However, danger yet lurks beyond this fence, I'm certain. Secure the gate for the evening, Fulton. ALEC ...Good, I've decided!! [When you find Lutz and Kuretta] ELDER Oh, Alec, what good timing! Perhaps you can help Lutz with the harvesting. My back is beginning to ache, I'm going to rest. LUTZ Alec! You came to help! I knew you wouldn't leave me hangin'! ELDER Now Lutz, remember... this is YOUR task. Don't put it all on Alec. And, keep an eye out for bandits, boys. [He leaves.] ALEC ... LUTZ So, Alec. Ready to get your fingernails dirty? No? I didn't think so. This field work is for the birds! I mean, we saved our village, and here we are, picking berries again. ... Okay, well, at least I was picking berries. But you and I both saw what city life was like! There's a better way than this! I just can't imagine living my life in... ALEC ...Lutz. LUTZ Hm? ALEC I'm going to become a Hunter...! LUTZ Yeah, I know. I'm gonna be a great Hunter, blah, blah, blah... ALEC No, really. It's time to do it. Now. LUTZ What? Really? Well then, take my hand and we'll make it, I swear! (*Rika falls over laughing* This is actually a quote from a song, for those of ya that might not get the joke =^.^=) LUTZ You just met your new partner in crime-busting adventure. If I have a choice of berry-picking or high-seas adventure... ...sign me up for the adventure part. Berry-picking sucks. (*Rika has not stopped laughing*) LUTZ If we're heading out now, we better at least tell the Elder. ALEC My thoughts exactly. [Lutz joins you. When you reach the Elder's house...] ALEC Elder, you must open the gate. ELDER Alec, what's the rush? ALEC I want to go to Itio to become a Hunter! LUTZ That's right. And, I'm going with him! ELDER Hm... well, I can't say I'm surprised. You've seen what excitement the world past our gate has to offer. And, with the gifts you both possess in battle... ...this was only a matter of time. I suppose sooner is better than later. ALEC Thank you for understanding. LUTZ Whoohoo! We're outta here! ELDER But, Lutz, what of Kuretta? LUTZ ...Ooh. Uh... ...I can't tell her what I'm doing. She'd freak. ELDER I understand completely. I shall explain it all to her somehow once you've gone. Well, with that, I suppose there's nothing to do but open the gate. Take care of yourselves! I shall meet you at the gate. [When you reach the gate.] LUTZ Are you sure you can talk to Kuretta for me? ELDER I shall handle it for you. LUTZ But... I think she'll be really mad if... KURETTA Lutz! LUTZ D'oh! This is what I was talking about! KURETTA Lutz, how could you think of leaving without telling me? I'm yuor SISTER! What happened to "all for one"? LUTZ Um...well... KURETTA Don't get me wrong, I think it's wonderful that you're taking on responsibility. LUTZ You do? KURETTA Of course. And someday, if your mouth doesn't get you killed, you'll be a fine hero. So, I'll send you off with well-wishes and my contribution to the cause! Here... LUTZ ... Hey! A Recovery Tonic! TEXT BOX Recovery Tonic Recieved! KURETTA Use it wisely. And remember... watch your mouth, Lutz. I wasn't kidding about it getting you killed. LUTZ I know, I know. Don't worry. KURETTA Well, I can't help but worry a little, but I'll just have to trust you'll do what's best. LUTZ Thanks, Sis. I won't let you down-- you'll see! KURETTA And Alec, you do your best to keep Lutz in line, okay? ALEC I will, Kuretta... whether he likes it or not! ELDER Well then, I suppose all that remains is to open the gate. ALEC You ready for this, Lutz? LUTZ Are you kidding? I've been ready for this all my life! ALEC All right, then. Here we go. [End scene!] (Wow... that was long...) -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- 05.) Get Your First Assignment! -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- ALEC Ahhh... back in the city of Itio! LUTZ I could get used to this place, no problem. ALEC Now that the shock's worn off a bit, it's not that much different from Sasha. LUTZ What are you talking about? ALEC Oh, never mind... LUTZ Check it out... Have you noticed that even the clothing they wear here is much different than in Sasha? ALEC I wonder if we'll stick out too much. Will they even let me become a Hunter? LUTZ No way to find out unless we go to the Guild! ALEC You're right. Let's go. [At the Guild...] YELLOW HAT HUNTER Hmm... haven't seen you around here. Hey! You got a customer! MAN Hm? Hey, you're the two that came in for a Hunter earlier, aren't ya? ALEC Yes, we are. Thank you for helping us. MAN It was no skin off my nose. Leegle did the work. ALEC That he did, and very impressively. MAN So, kids, what can I do for you today? Ya need another Hunter? ALEC No, no. I wish to become a Hunter. MAN Become... a... Hunter? Ahhhhh... ha ha ha ha ha ha! LUTZ Hey! Stop laughing! He's serious! We want to be Hunters and travel the world doing cool jobs. MAN You kids are a laugh riot. I just don't think... HUNTER 2 Hey, did you hear them? This kid wants to be a Hunter! HUNTER 3 Ahhhh, ha ha ha ha! That's the funniest thing I've heard all week. Those little twerps want to solve other people's problems... that's rich! MAN Look, kid. I think it's great you have a goal, but at your age... ALEC I'm older than I look... LUTZ Yeah, and we already have experience fighting freaky monsters! MAN Okay, okay. That's all well and good, but that fact remains... ...in a world without goverments, being a Hunter has become very dangerous. Hunters have to possess more cunning and skill than ever before. You're just too young and inexperienced. Give it up for now, kiddo. ALEC But, sir! There must be a way! LUTZ C'mon, mister! We can't go back to our village now! We'd be the laughingstock of the area, 'cuz when we left... ...we told them we were going away to be important Hunters! MAN Look. I don't want to see anyone get hurt, especially kids. But if you're dead-set on this, I'll give ya a shot. I'm gonna give you an easy job... baby stuff. If you finish it perfectly, you're in. Fair enough? ALEC Thank you, sir! You have no idea... MAN Yeah, yeah... I think I do. LUTZ Now we can see the world, and... MAN Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Hold your horses, kiddo. You're not a Hunter yet. LUTZ I'm not sure I want to be a Hunter myself, but... ...can I help Alec on his jobs? MAN No problem here. Only Hunters can accept jobs, but anyone can go with 'em. Just try to stay out of his way, okay? LUTZ No problem. This is gonna be great! ALEC All right, then. Let's get started. MAN Okay, first things first. You need to get a job assignment. I'm gonna go sit over here, behind this window. Once I sit down, ou come over and I'll give you your first assignment. (Now you get your first assignment, and a menu comes up. Take the job.) MAN This is your big one, kid! Don't blow it! Before you go, you should probably rest at the inn. ALEC Thank you for the advice! LUTZ You can count on us! When Alec becomes a Hunter, it's gonna be easy street! We'll be living the high life off of all the bounty we'll collect! ... YELLOW-HAT HUNTER Heh, heh... You seem enthusastic, boy, but I don't think you're cut out to be a Hunter. ALEC What? YELLOW-HAT HUNTER There's a big difference between wishing for something and doing it. Being a Hunter's not as easy as it seems. You'll see. The Trial Cave is northeast of Tohde Bridge, towards the lake. I bet you get at least that far, but I doubt you'll bring back the crystal. LUTZ Shyeah, right, old-timer. We'll show you! Just wait! ALEC {Lutz, do you always have to shoot off your mouth?!} LUTZ C'mon, Alec! Let's get going! We have some Hunters to show up! We just gotta bring back that whatchamacallit crystal from the cave. ALEC I thought you'd never finish so we could go... Let's get this job over with. YELLOW-HAT HUNTER Okay, they're gone. Give me the ticket. I'll be back before you know it. [End scene!] -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- 06.) Get the Crystal! -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- LUTZ THIS is the entrance to the Trial Cave? ALEC I'm sure this is it, Lutz. What's with the cold feet? LUTZ Cold feet? I don't have cold feet! ALEC All right, then, do we have all the equipment we need? LUTZ If we're gonna go back to town for supplies, we'd better do it now. (I selected "Get in that Cave!" on the menu.) ALEC Let's go, Lutz! LUTZ Them's the words I wanted ta hear, friend! Now, then... uh, why don't you lead the way. ALEC Lutz, if I didn't know better, I'd say you were... scared! [They enter the cave. After you go through the dungeon, you reach a crystal door.] LUTZ Will ya look at that! It's some kinda door... made of crystal! The Ghost Dream Crystal must be behind these. Seems lie the obvious statement of the week, yeah. Whelp, what do we do, Alec? (Push on the crystal) LUTZ Okay, then... here goes nothin'! We need to push harder! [The crystal splits.] LUTZ I can scarcely believe my eyes! It opened! ALEC Let's go, before they close again! LUTZ Right behind ya, buddy. That crystal is close... I can feel it! [They go inside.] ALEC That's the most beautiful thing I've ever... ... LUTZ Oh great! The crystals closed again! ALEC It's no use, it won't budge. LUTZ That's not what I wanted to hear. Can't you just lie to me, Alec? Now we're stuck in this place, God knows how deep underground! I...I'm having trouble breathing... is it... g...getting hotter in here? VOICE Heh, heh, heh. Havin' a little trouble, kids? ALEC Who's there? [It's the Hunter with the yellow hat!] (Who'd of guessed. I mean, really.) YELLOW HAT HUNTER Welcome! It's about time you finally got here. I'm Tengaron, keeper of the Ghost Dream Crystal here. LUTZ Hey! You're the guy from the Hunters' Guild! How'd you beat us here? TENGARON Do not question my amazing powers! For I... am Tengaron! And I just happen to be the Guardian of the Ghost Dream Crystal, too. I have come to deny your quest to gather a crystal fragment. I can't let just anybody take fragments and become Hunters. Go home and suckle your mommies, little babies. You have a lot of growing up to do. ALEC Insulting manner or not, you won't make us leave without a crystal fragment. I've come here to follow my dream of becoming a Hunter. TENGARON And, you've failed. Face it, kiddo, your're the dregs of Hunter cantidates. I can't let you have a precious crystal fragment from this most holy of places. This crystal holds the hopes and dreams of all who survived the Great Disaster. It is a symbol of the hope that one day, the world will be as it was before that black event. And I am sworn to protect it with my power. Don't cross me, kid. ALEC But we want to make the world a better place, too! That's why I want to be a Hunter. LUTZ Besides, I'm not trudging back out of this rathole without the fragment we came for. TENGARON Have it your way. The only way to prove your worth is to take me on. Ya still game, kid? ALEC If that's the only way, then I'll do my best. LUTZ You're gonna be sorry you took us on! [They engage Tengaron.] ALEC ... LUTZ Guess we showed you, eh, buddy? TENGARON You've shown me your strength and resolve. And, you have revealed yourselves to be quite worthy, despite your clumsy demeanor. I shall permit you to take a crystal fragment. ALEC Fantastic! TEXT BOX Crystal Fragment Taken! LUTZ Whoohoo! We got the fragment, Alec! Let's get back to the Hunters' Guild, and fast! ALEC The sooner, the better. TENGARON This is just the beginning, kids. It gets much harder from here out... ALEC Well, thank you for the advice and vote of confidence. TENGARON Good luck! [End scene!] -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- 07.) Back to the Hunters' Guild! -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- MAN Say, kiddo. Did ya bring back the Ghost Dream Crystal fragment? ALEC Certainly! Did you have any doubt? LUTZ Here! Check it out! TEXT BOX Handed over the crystal fragment! MAN Yup. This is the real deal. Good work, kiddo. ALEC What now? MAN Well, let's see... I gotta get a plate and... LUTZ But.... we're not hungry! MAN No, no, you blabbermouthed fool! Not a dinner plate, a metal plate! I was pressing your friend's official Hunter's Crest. And here it is. Congratulations, Alec. Welcome to the Hunters' Guild. TEXT BOX Got the Hunters' Crest! ALEC It looks like... LUTZ Whoa! There are pieces of the crystal we brought in the Crest! MAN Yup. Standard issue Hunter's Crest, and you retrieved some of the materials to make it! ALEC I'll treasure it always. MAN Yeah, yeah. The new guys always say that. Just remember that goofy crap when you're facing down a 50-foot, fire-breathing Chimera. LUTZ That wasn't too hard at all! And now you're a Hunter, Alec! What now? Hmm? Hmm? MAN {That kid needs some medication...} Okay, guys. Listen up! I wanna introduce our newest Hunter, Alec, and his friend Lutz. Give 'em a hand, okay? HUNTER No problem! JAY Hi there, I'm Jay. My specialty is to track and take out Wanted Monsters. Most of the monsters they post over there are ones I collect the bounty for. I'm always up for a little friendly competition, so see if you can beat me! [He leaves, and Tengaron enters.] TENGARON Heh, heh, good job, kid. HUNTER 2 I hope you know what you let yourself in for... Bein' a Hunter is a world of effort. If you show yourself to be strong, civilization's best arrives at your feet. But, if you're weak and indecisive... well, let's not talk about that. ALEC {I'm really a Hunter now!} (That... seems to be the point we're getting at...} TEXT BOX -Guild Job 1- Hunter Registration Test Completed! ALEC Now that I've got the official Crest, we can take on Guild Jobs! LUTZ Great, Alec. Just get a job that will take us across the ocean! I can just see it now... beaches, treasure... women. Yeah! Come ON, Alec! TENGARON Ha, ha, ha, ha! You kids are a laugh riot! You think you can just get a job and float across the ocean to do it? LUTZ Uh... we can't? TENGARON No, no, no. You need lots of experience to get a job like that. The bad part is that Itio is pretty peaceful, so getting experience is tough. You'll be lucky enough to have enough experience by the time you're thirty, kid. LUTZ Uh... t...thirty? TENGARON Yeah. And, even then, a job where you can travel on a boat is rare. ALEC You just say that because it hasn't been done yet. I'll change that. If I take every job I can get and do it well, I know I can make it happened. I'm going to see that world across the ocean, one way or another. TENGARON Ha, ha, ha, ha-- good luck, kiddo. ALEC Besides... I MUST cross the ocean if I'll have any chance of meeting the Hunter that saved me. C'mon, Lutz, let's get started. MAN It's always nice ta see the new Hunters, so full of fire.
