Introduction ============================================================================= Ok this guide was just created for a couple of reasons. One because I wanted to help some people with relationships they might not have understood, and second I wanted to cover the overall story of the game, because there are some key points people don't get in that either. So I hope you enjoy the guide and it helps you some. ============================================================================= 2.) Character Analysis ============================================================================= ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - HIRO AND LUCIA ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hiro and Lucia are the characters that the story is really based on. They are the love interest in the story as well, with Ronfar and Mauri in the background. In the beginning Lucia sees Hiro as really nothing more than a tool to reach her goal of conferring with Althena. In the beginning Hiro thinks Lucia is very beautiful, but he is shy and doesn't immediately approach her with his feelings. More towards the middle of the game we get the impression that Lucia and Hiro are in love, but Lucia can't come to terms with it, because she has to get her mission done and go back to the Blue Star. This entire time, her emotions are developing and evolving, and they become closer and closer. At the end of the game she wants to stay with him, but knows she has to go back to the Blue Star, and is elated when he shows up at the Blue Star after her. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - HIRO AND RUBY ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ruby is with Hiro from the beginning of the game we don't really find out much about the relationship until a little later in the game. When we meet up with Nall and Ruby finds out she is the red dragon, then we find out a little more about her past with Hiro. She has been with him since she was an infant, kind of as a very important pet more or less. Now when they have to go and Lucia finds out that Hiro is in love with Lucia, she is kind of upset, that she is no longer the most important person in his life, as she is very protective of him. Ruby does end up with Nall, so I guess it's not all bad, them splitting up. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - HIRO AND RONFAR ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ronfar and Hiro meet up when Gwyn suggests that Hiro go find him to cure the sickness that Lucia contracts when Zophar attacks them at the Spire. Ronfar is thought of as kind of a sleaze in the beginning, but later and as the game goes on he shows his true colors. He is also known as somewhat of a womanizer, which is basically the complete opposite of Hiro, but they seem to get along very well. Either one would gladly give their lives for the other, as they almost do on many occasions. I would have to say Ronfar kind of thinks of Hiro as a little brother, as he is obviously a little older, and much more experienced in a lot of things, so he kind of looks out for Hiro, and in an odd sense, guides him. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - HIRO AND JEAN ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I don't really get the relationship with Hiro and Jean. They never seem to be real "pals" but they do seem to have specific moments. They both help each other with assorted wisdom, although Jean seems to get along a little better with Ronfar due to some of the flirting he does. I guess you could say in the end they are very close friends, they just don't show it as verbally as some of the other relationships we see. But I would have to agree that either Hiro or Jean would give up their life for the other, at the end of the game, because their bond was so strong. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - HIRO AND LEMINA ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hiro and Lemina have kind of an uneven relationship. Although Lemina contributes a enormous deal to the party with her magic, I mean don't get me wrong you couldn't complete the game without her, but her and Hiro just never really seem to click. They have their moments, but she has more of a dry sense of humor, where as Hiro was much more detached from her and was never really in the mood for her sarcasm. Although they both solved problems for each other, and a great deal is accomplished while in Vane, I just never really liked the chemistry between them. As for dying on behalf of the other, I would like to think they would, but I'm not really sure... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - HIRO AND LEO ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- This relationship became much stonger as the game evolved, probably more than any other. In the beginning Leo thought of Hiro as more of a pest and a barrier keeping him from what he called the "destroyer" which was really Lucia. Now once he became a part of their party, and Hiro defeats him and gets the Destiny, Leo's respect for Hiro goes up a great deal and they become much closer. As they fight together more and more they become like best friends, although Leo is always a guiding eye, not quite in the way Ronfar is either. With the valor of the two people, I would have to say I could guarantee that either one of these characters would give their life for the other, hands down. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - RONFAR AND JEAN ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ronfar and Jean have kind of a flirty friend's relationship. Ronfar is constantly making passes at Jean, and she takes them heartily in a very joking manor. They do not really talk to each other specifically a lot, but they are more silently linked, liked Hiro and Jean kind of are. In the beginning Jean didn't know Ronfar so she kind of didn't even pay attention to his attempts at her, but as they become friends later in the game, she starts to warm up to him and they are very good friends. If Ronfar and Mauri hadn't got back together, I was kind of hoping these two would hook up. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - RONFAR AND LEMINA ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lemina and Ronfar have a more sarcastic relationship, they are always going back and fourth with each other. They really are good friends, you just never really see it, and they are not quite as flirty as Jean and Ronfar are together, but his passes on her are there. It was the same case as with Jean, in the beginning of the game they were kind of cold towards each other, but then as they get to know each other they warm up a little more and she gets a little more flirty with his passes and sarcastic comments towards. All in all they're good friends. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - RONFAR AND LEO ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ronfar and Leo go, way, way back and they are still friends during the game. Ronfar was almost married to Leo's sister once, and they will be back together at the end. So needless to say they are very close, and very protective of each other. Leo and Ronfar kind of have a schism more in the beginning-middle part of the game, because Ronfar is on Lucia's side when Leo is not. Without Ronfar, Leo would not be as an effective character as he is, because he has very good point stats, but people tend to let him go because his attacks aren't as powerful as Hiro's and most of the time you end up healing him with magic, not items. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - RONFAR AND RUBY ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a very interesting relationship if you ask me. They are constantly cracking on each other, but then if you go back and look at it closely they are actually one of the tightest relationships in the entire game. Ruby is not that nice to Ronfar in the beginning of the game, but as time goes on she kind of has a crush on him, which them evolved into very good friends. Ronfar kind of looks out for Ruby during the whole "Nall" ordeal, and he is not really as sarcastic towards her in the ending of the game, although sometimes he just can't seem to help himself when he sees an opening... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - RONFAR AND MAURI ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mauri and Ronfar are the secondary love story in the game, which Hiro and Lucia obviously being the first. They were together once, many years before the story took place, but then when Mauri got sick and Ronfar, a priest at the time could not heal her, he thought it was his fault and they separated. In the end of the game get back together when Ronfar goes through a very cruel memory ordeal and shows her how much he really loves her, so at the end we assume they get married although it is never really shown. We also get to see one of the most touching cut scenes in the game based on their relationship as children. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - LUCIA AND RONFAR ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lucia and Ronfar have a friendly relationship. After all he is the one who saved her life when she was sickened by Zophar. Before she really learns all the emotions a lot of the things he says to her don't really make any sense to her so she doesn't really pay them any attention. But as they progress through the journeys together Ronfar kind of stops making his hits on her when he sees how Hiro feels, and they become the more "Best friends of a friend" relationship. So I think it is fair to say that they have a very protective relationship. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - LUCIA AND JEAN ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lucia and Jean star opposite each other as the two hottest female characters in the game. They don't really converse a whole lot, although they are not in contempt of each other, just kind of talk in a quiet way. Jean helps Lucia at times to deal with her more "feminine" emotions that she comes into contact with, especially when they get her new clothes at the circus, and she has no idea what fashion and stuff is. So it is safe to say that they are quietly close and don't really have a lot to talk about. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - LUCIA AND LEMINA ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I don't really like how Working Designs did this relationship, because it never even really develops. Every once in a while Lemina will say something to Lucia, but she did most of it when they were in the beginning of the game, so Lucia really had no idea what she meant anyway. Jean took the more female guiding role, I guess they just didn't have Lemina do it, because she is a lot more sarcastic. This relationship is very static, and I wish we could have seen more happen with hit. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - LUCIA AND LEO ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- This relationship gets off to a very rocky start and never really recovers. I mean it wasn't Leo's fault, he only thought he was doing the job Althena told him to, but he is heart broken when he realizes the truth. After they "make peace" so to speak, which by the way is not saying a whole lot. Leo would become one of her most fierce protectors. They rarely ever talk, and I actually cannot recall a time after they become friends that they talk. She was Hiro's girl and Leo didn't want a beat down, heh just kidding, but who knows... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - LUCIA AND ALTHENA ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- We actually don't have as much information on this relationship as we think, since the Althena we see in person is the false Althena. Now we do get to see the message that was left for Lucia, and we know Lucia greatly admires Althena and would even take her powers and her place when she finds out she is needed to replace her is she wants to. Althena serves as the only type of mother figure that Lucia has and really the only person almost as close to her as Hiro. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - JEAN AND LEMINA ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- You would think that they would be very good friends, but they actually don't seem to click like I figured they would when we picked up Lemina. I think it might have had something to do with how Lemina becomes a part of the group. Although as the game progresses you can see that they are friends, I just don't know why Working Designs didn't have them become "girlfriends." Now although this is not that important, to the story, I think it would have made for some interesting turns in the plot. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - JEAN AND LEO ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once again, we have another very static relationship that are just SO totally boring to type. Jean may give Leo some encouragement when he is feeling down, but they never really converse in the conversation manor. Now I don't think they really could after what happened when Leo was still the White Knight, and I almost feel bad for Leo because of his past with the characters, he really only has a couple, super close friends. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - JEAN AND RUBY ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sigh this is another one just the thing with Leo and Jean. They may talk a couple of time but they never really do anything worth noting. There was really no reason for Working Designs for develop this relationship, since Ruby's obnoxious sarcasm, and Jeans quiet wisdom are clashing with each other. Why must I write for every single relationship, bleh. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - JEAN AND LUNN ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lunn steals Jean when she is a very small child and turns her into a killing machine. However until she comes on the journey with Hiro she doesn't know that its Lunn that was the head of the shadow dragon cult. So then when she does and they fight in the tournament, which is easily won by Jean, they become good friends again when Lunn decides to become good again. This could have been shown a little more, since his lazy but never helps you after you save his soul... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - LEMINA AND BORGAN ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is kind of a comic relief relationship, but it also has some very serious implications towards Lemina's personality and the outcome of the Epilogue. Had Leminas mom not been with Borgan, we never would have found the scripture necessary to do the epilogue. Now Lemina doesn't like him, even after he apologizes, and now that her magic is stronger than his, after you beat him you find that out obviously, he can't just boss her around and do things anymore. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - LEMINA AND RUBY ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- These are two very clashing personalities. Now they are not clashing because they're different, its actually because they are the same sarcastic type of person. They kind of make some funny expressions, but nothing worth noting, nor are there any notable conversations. This relationship was not really necessary for the plot, and it just kind of adds to the little stuff. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - LEMINA AND LEO ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- My god this is boring for me to type, I hope you people appreciate how hard it is to BS some of these ;P Lemina and Leo might speak a couple time but they never become real close. Now keep in mind when I say this I mean that they're friends, they're just not chatting it up 24/7. If Working Designs had evolved this a little more, I think it would have thrown off some of the other plot turns. However, if they had possibly gotten together as a couple, that would have been VERY interesting. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - GHALEON AND ALTHENA ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- This was a very difficult relationship for me to understand for a while, but its actually very simple. Ghaleon was sorry for what he did in the time of the Dragonmaster Alex and Althena, so he comes back. Now at first were made to believe that he is working for Althena as a Dragonmaster, but then we find out that its not the real Althena, then we find out its not the same Ghaleon. Now although Althena doesn't say anything about Ghaleon helping them in the message she leaves for Lucia, I think her and Ghaleon are now at peace. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - GHALEON AND ZOPHAR ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- This relationship was not what I thought at all. First I figured, well why doesn't Ghaleon do anything to Zophar, since they're both super strong, but then we find out that Ghaleon is working for him, because Zophar supplies his life source. This is only after we find out he is not a Dragonmaster under the true Althena, only the false. When he helps Hiro and Zophar finds out Ghaleon was deceiving him the entire time, he stops providing Ghaleon with life, and we see the end of a valiant hero. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - GHALEON AND HIRO ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- This relationship is purely based on respect and Ghaleon's sorrow for what he did in the past. When we see Ghaleon we think back to Lunar when he was not a real nice guy. However, little do we know that he is actually helping Hiro on his quest by making sure he doesn't get soft or give up. Now, when Zophar has Lucia, and Ghaleon appears to fight him, I was thinking crap, now I'm screwed and he's gonna beat the hell out of me, but he actually was a very respectable foe and gives you his sword after, the final act of friendship, and closure for the converted Ghaleon. ============================================================================= 3.)
