Lady Stalker - The Apocalypse Engine SNES game produced by Climax and Taito. Released April 1995. FOREWORDS: This is just a basic guide to the game. I find the puzzles quite straight forward so I will not post the solutions. Those who need specific puzzle's solution please send an e-mail to me, I add the solution in the walkthrough section. STORY AND CHARACTERS ======================= STORY Long time ago, in a rich family, there was a girl called Lady. She was restive and created disasters wherever she went. Her father locked her in an isolated house in the courtyard. In addition, he sent 2 men to guard her: cook-and-bodyguard Corks and home-tutor-and-gardener Yoshio. With ability to cast spells, these 2 men were able to foil all Lady's attempts to escape. Today, their never-ending battle continues... Lady is studying enthusiastically with Yoshio. Yoshio gets suspicious and searches the room for bombs but finds none. He continues lesson with a book about mysterious Deathland island. She wants to read alone and send Yoshio out. Yoshio and Corks talk loudly outside the door and Lady chases them off. She cannot read ancient writing well but instinctively wants to go to Deathland. She tries to escape again but Yoshio and Corks know what she is thinking. Lady makes Yoshio uses his fireball spell. After a lot of misses, the house gets burned down and Lady escapes. CHARACTERS Lady Heroine of the game. Cute, young, wild and uncontrollable. Yoshio His wife left him because he is too skeptic. Strangely he can use attack spells and understand ancient writings. Corks Rumored to be a gay and transvestite. Weirdly he can use healing spells and possess great swordsmanship. Barbo A fellow adventurer from another land. Fully armored in red. Sajiku An explorer who discovers the Giant tomato fossil. Currently on an expedition and is missing. His home and family is in River town. Bob An information provider. He works closely with Zajiku, has a son and a father. All live in Rivertown. Dodohei A convict at Death Vegas, who accidentally discovered J.B. plan to destroy human. Kingbaron A mysterious ancient ruler of the island. He was obsessed with trapping monsters and feeding them to a machine he created, which made the monsters abnormally big. Surrounded by gigantic monsters, he was forced to use the machine on himself. The outcome and his whereabout remains a mystery till today. Jumbo Babybaron (prefers to be called J.B.) He is hailed as sucessor of Kingbaron. Ramusu He arrived in ancient times to liberated the island from Kingbaron's rule. Named the island 'Deathland'. =========== 2. Window background color in red, green, blue. FIELD MENU OPTIONS (left-right): -Items Press left/right to select character then confirm. Use directional key to select item. Options available for item (left-right) are Use, Transfer, Discard. -Magic Same as items. -Equip Same as items. A character can equip a weapon, head, body, hand armor and accessories. The weapon type determines the special attack. -Status Attack(weapon strength+power) Defend(armor strength+Stamina) Item equipped Power Stamina Intelligence Life/Total Life Alertness Spell/Total Spell Luck Experience Current level Press confirm to check special attacks and spells learned. -Command(top-down) Command determine Yoshio and Cocks general actions. "Do whatever you like" "All attack" "Don't die on me" "Magic prohibited" BATTLE MENU OPTIONS (left-right): Items, Magic, Escape, Commands. Usage is same as field menu's options. ===================== 3. SIMPLE WALKTHROUGH ===================== According to the direction sign in the port, North is top-right of the screen, the direction your character travels pressing the right directional button. Port-town (Minato-machi) There is an item shop, souvenir shop, inn and church in this town. -This is the 1st town Lady starts in. Main purpose is to get a Visa in order to explore the island. An adventurer called Bardo asked whether Lady is after the treasures the answer will not affect the story. -Exit North, talk to the girl behind counter, answer yes to both her questions, go through the opened door for simple trial. -Use dash to cross narrow gap. There are monsters appearing in a map. Feel free to gain 1 or 2 levels here. There is a simple dungeon to learn about carrying and placing objects. Final destination is the museum. -In the museum, talk to all men behind counters. After getting Visa, take a seat in front of the screen for a film show on lengend of Kingbaron. Exit using rope ladder. -Re-enter Port-town, talk to man in counter beside West exit, he will open the gate. Next destination is River town to the North. River-town There is an item shop, weapon shop, armor shop, church and store room. Whip special attacks has longer range, boots special attacks are more damaging. You can store item and money in storeroom, currently run by Sajiku's wife. -Next stop is Baron Castle to the North. Castle entrance (Shiro-iriguchi) The castle is actually a fake one serving as tourist attraction. There is a hot spring, completely heal all characters, church and a trader selling okusuri(medicine) and dokuchuwa(antidote). -Buy a ticket at left counter by the gate. Enter castle, talk to oldman there and take a free ride around the castle. Talk to oldman again after the ride to open the door. The Library puzzle: 1. Upon entering the library, make through a simple maze to get a green book left on a desk. Use it on a shelf with books missing to open a new section. 2. Check the 8 shelves in the following order, with the 1st one nearest to the entrance: 6th, 4th, 8th, 1st, 7th, 5th, 3rd, 2nd. A shelf will collapse to reveal another section of teh libray. 3. Go through another simple maze, check a shelf with books missing to turn on a switch that will release a rope ladder. Climb the rope ladder to get the chest containing a blue key for unlocking blue door. -In the middle of the castle, you will meet J.B. for the first time. He left after recieving a report that something is being dung out in the mine. -After clearing the castle, Lady reaches Waterway town. Waterway town (Suidou-machi) A modest town will inn, shop and church. The inn lady offers free lodging. -In order to get to the mine, Lady has to pass through the waterway. An oldman in a house Southen-most is holding on to the key to the door of the waterway, just talk to him to get the key. Pipe-dreams puzzle: This puzzle requires Lady to fill the missing joins with correct pipes, in order to pump the water out. At an isolated pipe at North-west of the map, there is a pipe joint that can be used. After putting in place 2 more joints found at East end of the room, turn on the switch on a panel beside the giant pool. -After emerging from waterway, go East towards the next town Death Vegas. Death Vegas This is a town of prisoners working in the mine. There is an item shop, weapon and armor shop, inn, church and casino. The weapon and armor shop currently sells nothing, but on later visits, they will be stocked with powerful equipments. Casino will open after Lady clears the mine. -Talk to an oldman behind counter in Southen-most house. He thinks Lady is a new convict, gives her a ticket to the cable car and send her off to work in the mine. -Exit East, talk to the 2 guards, they will let Lady in. Go to house to the North. Talk to the monster guarding the cable car, he will step aside and let Lady use the cable car. -Going farther in the mine, Lady will run into J.B. who is angry that Lady is prying into his plans. He orders Lady to be thrown in a jail. Yoshio is in the jail, talk to him and he will join Lady. Run into the wall Yoshio tried to break to escape jail. -Go after Corks using the mining cart. Press B to brake and slow down, directional keys to change tracks. The brake will get over heated if held down for too long. -There is a small camp in the niddle of the mine, where Lady can rest, buy items and visit the church. -Clearing the mine, Lady will reach an underground temple. At the bottom, J.B. is making an announcement to the monsters that the age of monsters is near. He will be using the ancient machine to make monsters bigger and smarter, then eliminate all human. He orders Corks to open a chest, Corks refuses and is knock out by J.B.. A follower(Mogukichi) open the chest revealing a stone tablet, J.B. left after reading it. Go to the platform to wake Corks up, he will join the party immediately. Take the stone tablet before decending the stairs J.B.'s follower exited earlier. -Lady will challenge J.B.'s follower using a special mining cart. Press A button to fire a fireball at the opponent. -After winning, Lady can exit the mine. There is a sudden explosion somewhere and the door to Snow valley will not open. Exit mine, go to Monster village to find out about the explosion. Monster village A village with inn and church. -At monster village, the monsters refuse to open their doors to human. There is a blue monster in the village distributing Spring for free. Jump to Death Vegas. Go to the house with a vault and check it to get unlimited supply of Monster elixir. Casino is open, weapon and armor shop is selling equipment now. -Return to Monster village and use the Monster elixir. Enter house to the South. The monsters need someone to go help a monster(Gemuko) trapped in the eruption. Exit South. There is a carcass of monster where Lady can pick up unlimited supply of Monster Elixir. -The dungeon is straight forward. Gemuko the giant tomato is trapped deep down. It is too weak to escape and he want Lady to warn other monster that being hugh accelerate the ruination of body, monsters should not follow J.B.'s plan to turn big using the machine. It petrifies soon after. Continue deeper and the party will emerge on surface. The door to Snow valley is open now. -Go to Snow valley. Sajiku is trapped in ice. After rescuing him, he tells Lady to look for him in River town's store room. Find open space to jump to River town. -In River town, go to store room's 1st floor and talk to Sajiku. He passes Lady an old map(Furui-chizu). Jump to Port town, go to the museum and get the white statue from display. Finally jump to the Ramusu tower beyond the Snow valley and use the statue from museum at front door. -At the top of the tower Lady will meet spirit of Ramusu. He revives a flying carpet to carry the party to Baron rock. -At Baron rock, Lady has trouble getting to the top. Yoshio suggest going back town and look for solution. Jump to River town, talk to Bob and Sajiku. Jump to Death Vegas, talk to Dodohei and get Rocket-gutsu. Also buy a Blackball from weapon shop. The stone tablet from underground temple is also needed. Equip with the Rocket-gutsu and jump back to Baron rock. -At Baron rock, step on the red gas to charge the Rocket boots, press A to hover. The amount of gas left is show top-right. Spelling out Kingbaron's name: After entering the door opened by placing the stone tablet, Lady is in a room with tile with alphabets. Lady is suppose to spell out Kingbaron's name using dragon statues. 1. Place the statues on 2nd row, 2nd, 4th column, all of 3rd row. 2. Finally use the Black ball at the diaz. -At top of Baron rock is Kingbaron hall, followed by Baron's tower and Hell cliff. finishing these 3 dungeons, Lady will get to challenge J.B. and finally the machine with Kingbaron's soul trapped in it. After that get ready for the game's ending. -The human world is saved after the destruction of the machine. The islanders decide to change the name of Deathland to Jajauma (jajauma means wild and misbehaving woman = Lady). It will become a pure amusement island. Fireworks followed by staff roll. If Lady took a picture in front of the castle entrance, it will be displayed at the end of staff roll. ================= 4. THINGS TO NOTE ================= -Special sets of equipment: China boots, China dress, China pad, China-boushi. Character will get bonus increase of 80 Attack and 80 Defend when equipped with all of them. -Hikaru-Bi-dama: Whenever Lady finds a Hikaru-Bi-dama, use it in the menu screen and the item will be automatically transfered to an unknown collector. After clearing the mine, in Death Vegas the collector will be hiding behind the weapon shop. He will give items in exchange for Hikaru-Bi-dama collected. Powered rod for 3, Tsu-kuracchi for 8, Holy knife for 10, Junkin-no-tate for 20. -During battle, attacking from side causes additional damage while backstabbing will double the damage. -Once Lady has more than one special attack, it is not necessary to charge power gauge fully. A lower-level special attack will be executed if the power gauge is not fully charged. -Gemu candy(Gemu-okashi): A yellow alien-like creature will appear in the museum after Lady reaches Hell cliff. He(?) will give Lady a Gemu candy, which can recover party's SP. -Unsolved: There will be girls appearing around the revisited places on the island. Rika in the hot spring at castle entrance, Mami at cliff near Ramusu tower. Their purpose is unknow ========================================================= 5. COMMENTS AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS ================================ Comments: This game is highly similar to Landstalker, an action role-playing-game released on Genesis, but is released at a later date. There is no evidence in the game to show that both stories are linked. -The world is in realistic 2D isometric view, same as Landstalker. -You control a character with 2 computer-controlled followers, a refreshing change. -Encounter has changed to random type while combat is still action based. -The map is bigger, but sadly resulted in more time wasted in moving from one spot to another and lost of graphical details. -The pace of the game is ruined by random battles and poorly-designed map. -Action-wise, jump is substituded by dash. It makes game play bit of funny as jump is one of the most basic moves in action games, not dash. -The characters still do not have a shadow. -Storywise Lady Stalker pales significantly compared to Landstalker, not much suspense or turns in plot and filled with irrelevant weirdos. -Music has not improve beyond Shining series and Landstalker. On the whole this is a average title from a company who has given us great games like Shining and the darkness, Shining force and Landstalker. Still worth a play if you can spare 10+ hours or is a Landstalker fan. Acknowledgement: GameFAQs - The unbelievable time and effort sacrifices made, which make mine looks like nothing in compare.
