Introduction ============================================================================ Hello and welcome to my Lunar: Eternal Blue FAQ/Walkthrough for the Sega CD game console. I decided to translate or convert my guide for the Playstation version (cut out incompatible parts and changed some stuff) so that people could use it for Sega CD as well, when I noticed there were only 2 guides there for the game. The same rules apply to this guide, question and email wise etc. Hopefully this guide will help you out if your stuck on the game. (note: using this for the PSX version might not be a good idea since I have edited some things). ============================================================================ II. Character Analysis ============================================================================ Hiro: The grandson of Gwyn, Hiro is very interested in exploring the ancient ruins near his grandfathers research keep. He and Ruby frequently go there even if his grandfather tells him not to, which he does quite often. We first meet him in the act of mischief as he narrowly escapes with his life! He wants to understand the future by learning all that happened in the past, and he is a pretty nice kid, not to mention he is skilled with a sword and boomerang. I now think there is more to Hiro than just an adventurer, he is truly starting to fall in love with Lucia he was willing to die for her against Leo. He is also starting to get more into the quest of saving lunar, instead of just an adventure as before, like when he really wants to save Maria in Zulan. Lucia: We first catch up with Lucia as she emerges from her sleep in whatever that class container was. She emerges into the cold and seems very worried, she says that it was not her time to awaken, but I don't think she had a choice. She forsees a terrible vision of a giant explosion, and I would guess Leos tale of the coming destroyer would have something to do with it. She is a very pretty, yet mysterious girl, she has secrets and nightmares she cannot share with Hiro. She is very strong with magic, but not attacks, naturally. She is having some changes now that are much more apparent and she doesn't know why, so we will watch as she progress's more to being like a human. I Ruby: This is Hiros pet cat, or as she says "baby red dragon." Hiro doesn't think she really is, but they don't care because they have been friends for a very long time. She can spit fire at enemies and she is a life saver sometimes as she can be the deciding factor in a fight when she decides to help out. She talks to you a lot, and is an entertaining addition to your party. Well, I personally and annoyed that ruby is trying to ruin Hiro and Lucia's chances, stupid little dragon, its not like she can marry him anyway, so whats up w/ her? Well, she has gotten more useless, because the enemies are stronger so her fire breath isn't much help now. Well, Nall has now told as that Ruby is the true Red Dragon but lost her Aura long ago, so we'll see if it is possible to get it back and restore it to her. Gwyn: Hiros historian grandfather, he is the most respected historian ever. When Leo comes to him asking questions he doesn't tell the truth, so then you and him go to try to find out whats going on. He does pretty good damage when he hits things with his cane. Gwyn wants to leave a huge mark on history to be remembered by, so hopefully this will turn out good for him. Ronfar: Once the wielder of very powerful healing magic, he gave it up after he was unable to use it to save his sick lover. He is now a womanizer, seeming to have a "magic" charm,, and is pretty unpredictable. He is thought to once have been Althenas Priestess and was once married to Mauri, hopefully more light will be shed on that later in the game. He is a gambling shark, with an obvious advantage that some would call "magic." After he meets with Mauri and sees the spell she is under he gets pretty upset, but can he save her? Lemina: She will join your party for better or worse. She is the Junio Premiere of magic at the Magic Guild of Vane. Her mother Maria was very cautious and a keeper of the trust and legacy of the great magicians, she is just a little spoiled kid who doesn't heed or understand the past, and not much care. Very rarely she will show that there is a good side to her, stressing rarely. Saddly, everything with her seems to revolve around money, and she plays a nasty trick on you when she gets you to go into the manor, but I think she is a very worth while member to your party, she has very strong magic. Her mom was kidnapped kind of, so now she must find her, that's her new quest. Jean: Said to have been trained as a fighter when she was a young child, this fan dancer, pretty I might add, is not one you want to mess with. She works in the circus, and they say she does not do well with relationships. It is said she has a overbearing over protective complex, but we'll find out in the game now won't we. Wow, who knew she was like Bruce Lee or something! She killed that vine with her bare hands before Hiro could even move, close to where they were. So she is a student, or was and is trying to forget, of the Shadow Dragon fighting clan... She finally got rid of the clan! Leo: The head of the Althena guard, sworn protectors of the goddess Althena. He is unmatched by any creature purely human with the sword, and is not very nice to Hiro and Ruby when we first catch up with him, and then continues to spread his bad attitude with Gwyn. He seems to be very dedicated and a good guy, but he really needs a chill pill. He is not 100% human and has been given use of the Dragonship Destiny to travel. Wow, he has now given up the destiny ship to Hiro after finding out that Althena is a fraud and the real one is trapped, he is gone at the moment. Lunn: The famous martial arts expert is said to have mixed intentions, but he is a good governor. he is the governor of Meribia, and he even created a town just to teach his martial arts, Horam. He is one of the four heroes, and is said to be the best, but he is humble and would never admit it. He ha a secret that he is keeping from everyone, maybe we'll uncover it... Well we sure did and he is the freakin leader of the Shadow Cult! Luckily Jean was able to stop him. Althena: The goddess is starting to get a bad reputation, people are now saying that she is to oppressive. She has never been seen since the death of Alex, the last of the Dragonmasters from 1000 years ago. Something is obviously wrong and I suspect we are going to find out later in the game. Hmm... somethings wrong because her magic cannot be sensed by Lucia, where is she anyway? Well the real Althena is trapped in the 5th tower in Pentagulia, while the fraud is trying to help Zophar come back to power. Mauri: The sister of Leo, she was once married to Ronfar, but that was broken off for unknown reasons. She is very loyal to the goddess as a Red Priestess. She is very shy and quiet yet pleasant, and not one to cross, because she has the power of the red dragon. Hopefully we will learn more about her in the near future. Well, we saw the cut-scene of her illness, she must be a very tough little lady. She is under a spell by the false Althena and not even Ronfars love can break it through, what will save her? Borgan: Said to have the strongest magic in the world, he is the black wizard. Not like the name he has been dealt and his looks, he is very nice. He has the power of the black dragon, which basically means never ending power. He is trying to restore the Magic Guild, will he succeed? How can he aid Hiro?... He to is in alliance with Zophar, and is under a curse, can he be stopped? Well Borgran turns out to not be as bad as everyone thought, in the end he wants to help out with the new Magic Guild, so that's good for Lemina. ============================================================================ III. The Walkthrough ============================================================================ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dragon Eye Ruins: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- You are going to start the game out with Hiro and Ruby as they are trying to steal the Dragons Eye Jewel, which they do. Then you will watch hem run from all the fire monsters until they exit the ruins. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- East Desert Pass: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, once you are out of the Ruins, you will be in the desert, and there are a lot of Dung Beetles and Sand Sharks roaming around, so you need to watch out. There is a statue of Althena that you can pray to and it will restore all of your HP and MP. Fighting all of the monsters (ALL of them) will get Hiro to gain up to Level 7, and now you will earn the Poe Sword Attack, it uses 6 MP but is much stronger than the boomerang. Now, you need to just go along with the path on your way to grandpa Gwyn's house, until the game cuts to an animation scene of "The Dragonship Destiny" which is captained by the head of Althena's guard, Leo. He will ask you what you are doing in the area tell you of the destroyer, which is why he claims you need to evacuate this area immediately. Once he starts sailing off for Gwyn's house (thanks for not giving you a ride...eh?) you will resume your walk. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gwyn's Place: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you arrive you will go up into the main house. Leo and Gwyn are talking, and Gwyn tells Leo that he knows nothing about the Blue Spire, and Leo finds it hard to believe but is forced to accept it. After Leo leaves, something very strange happens to the Spire while you are on the observation deck with Gwyn. Now you will decide to go to the Blue Spire, but first you have to go to the basement and get his ancient knife from the treasure chest. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Blue Spire ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you have departed from the house, you will head north to the entrance of the Spire. By the way, he has given you the Opal Jewel, which will be used to open the door, or that's what his book said anyway. So once you arrive there, the stone is put in and nothing happens! But luckily Hiro and Ruby managed to steal the Dragon Eye Jewel, so it fits in the other eye hole of the statue so now you can go in. Once you are in the tower, you will realize that there are four stone blocks buttons that need to be pushed down, which will create the ledge for you to walk along to cross to the next section. TO push down all of the buttons press X when standing in front of them. There are monsters just about everywhere in this place, but once you have pressed down all the button you will see that the walkway has appeared and you can cross. Now you are in the hall of ancient rooms. You will have to go in and power down all of the four Blue Labyrinths, one located in each room, again just press X infront of it. The rooms are the Sun, Star, Moon and Mystic. Once all of them are down, go and stand on the giant star emblem, it is blue and gold, and It will take you to the next level of the tower. Beware, when you are trying to power down the Labyrinths, there are monsters guarding the entrance to each room. Well, once you are teleported to the next level, your now in the Blue Spire Garden. Make your way along, cautious of the monsters (mostly mummies) until you get to the main corridor. Now this will get a little tricky and take a while, so take your time in this area. Crystal Knights and Bomb Angels are everywhere, so watch yourself. Basically, to make a long story short, your going to have to go through 4 levels of rooms, fighting through most of them. Then you will reach a beautiful hall and go to the door at the end of it. Now you will come to a room where Gwyn says he needs to find the secret passage, so go and look for it. Immediately just go to the earth orb floating over the Star emblem so you can be taken to the next level. Stand on it and light will appear and you will be "beamed up." Now your in Lucia's Room, where you will watch the scene of her coming out of the Spire Waterfall and through to the world that Althena created. She will tell you that you need to help her find Althena, and Ruby is a little jealous of how Hiro looks at her. So, she will take you back to Gywn and now its time to get out of here. Basically, once you try to leave you will find yourself in that big hall surrounded by 4 crystal knights! But then once you go to attack Lucia gets pissed and uses some very strong magic and that's the end of them. Now go back through the way you came, she will tell whatever you fight not to interfere and destroy them! Go until you have reached the gardens and now Lucia is very worried because Althena cannot be sensed. Then you will find out why, its Zophar the evil one! He will cruse Lucia and take away her magic, because she cannot fight, due to the fact that he has sealed away the four dragons! He will leave you to take care of Lucia, but you have some bigger problems coming. Make sure as you walk by the fountain that you pray and heal you and Gwyn, you'll need it. Just when you think your safe you will saddly find that the Guardian Statue has come to life, and its huge! So now make sure to use the order feature to get Hiro up front and Gwyn in the back of the party, so he doesn't get attacked. Use Poe Sword every time and have Gwyn use Broken Armor, or heal Hiro, and hopefully you'll defeat it this way, it took me a few tries. So make sure that you have saved before you go to where the Guardian is. Once you have killed the Guardian you just have to go back through the easy Labyrinth part, shouldn't be a problem. Now you will have some trouble, there are four more Guardians! Fight them as long as you can, and then you will see Ruby ready to die, then all of a sudden there is a brilliant flash and there all dead! It is the Dragonship Destiny and there beam cannon. Leo will ask some questions but you lie and hurry back to Gwyns house to try to heal Lucia. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sailing to Larpe: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- You are saddly going to find that the curse is way beyond the healing powers of Grandpa, so you and lucia are going to have to sail to Larpe, where there is a priest who can help her, he tells you to seek out Ronfar. Go to the dock that is due west of Gwyn's house and then use the O button to dock. Once you are docked and on foot again, travel until you reach the town of Larpe. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Finding Ronfar: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Upon entering the town you will see that it is a mountain town, and there is a lot you can do. First, I would go into the shop and buy some Herbs or what ever you think you'll need. Now, go to the Althena statue and talk to the man in front of it and then pray to it and heal yourself. Now, go up to the next level of the town and go to the house where you see two men standing outside. Read the note on the door then go back down to the tavern and talk to the man on the far right. Now, once your done talking to him go back up to the church or sanctuary and then talk to all the priests. Now go back down and talk to the man in the tavern again. Gamble with him, your choices don't matter you'll lose either way. Now after 2 tries, stop gambling and then Ruby will talk to you, then Lucia will faint. Ronfar will take you to his house and let her rest there. Then Leo comes to his house and almost finds you, but luckily Ronfar covers! Now you will roll dice with him to see if he will heal her or not, and you win this time! So now your going to take the back way to the sanctuary and through those caves Im sure you noticed before. Battle your way through the 2 caves and then take the hazardous jump (no one is hurt). Now you have to find the Althena statue, but make sure you avoid Leo. The first time he tries to heal her he fails. Then he tells you about Mauri and how he failed only once before. Then he tries very hard, really concentrating and heals her. He could not help her 100% but she is much better now. You will go back to his house to rest, everyone goes to sleep. The next morning you find that Lucia is gone. So go to the house with the baby and get the Bromide from the man then talk to the woman and watch the cut-scene. Now go to the mayors house and talk to him, it's the big one in the center of the mountain. He will tell you where she has gone, and you have to pay him her 30$. Now run down to the sand ship dock and talk to her. She thanks you and says she has to go to Dalton, then to the city of Parelguila, the holy city. She leaves, and then Ronfar finds you and tells you that Leo is heading there too! So now it is up to you guys to go and save her and luckily he decides to come along to! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rescuing Lucia: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok, once you leave Larpe, head over to Dalton, there might be a fight or so on the way there, but nothing major. Once you get there the scene will cut to Leo trying to capture Lucia with his men. She fights the soldiers off, but Leo and his magic blade of the white knight are just to much. Now, go into the town so you can board the ship. First, go into all the buildings and find the treasures because once your in it's a pain in the ass to have to come back out. So, also go to the sanctuary and pay the money too pray, buy TONS of herbs I had like 20 because you will need them. Once you are ready, go into the door connected to the bridge and then go to the right immediately once you get in, there is a 90% concealed passage. Board the ship and go to the door on the back. You are going to have to fight your way through the entire ship, but once you have killed all of the guards (Privates and Captains) your reward will be Lucia! You will find her in jail, with Leo interrogating. Once he is gone, free her, then he will come back and you guys lock him in, so Ronfar can talk to him. Now exit and go to the store and stock up again before you leave Dalton. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Through the Woods: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now you are going to have to travel north into the forests and you will come to the fork in the road, just get through either way it doesn't matter. You will have to fight a lot, see why you bought all the herbs? Eventually you will come to the Dragon Tower, where Hiro will have a long talk with Lucia while Ronfar's exploring a bit. She will come to the conclusion that you are different from the other humans and are not bad. He will come back and it will be time to go, but pray to the statue and heal yourselves before you go. Now you are going to have to find the gambling friend of Ronfar, and he wants to play dice to see if he will show you how to get through the illusion woods. Luckily you still have the loaded dice and Ronfar wins, so he shows you how to get through the patches by hitting X. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Illusion Woods: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Basically what the thicket thing is, when you come to patches of bush that are a different color, hit X to reveal a chest, a passage or a dead end. You will have to find your way through the forest passage by passage. Keep going and fighting and running through and finally you will come to a larger main way to go and it will open up into what appears to be more woods, but then you hear a strange noise... its music? Then you spot the dancer, and realize it's the carivan! Now watch the cool cut-scene and then meet the people! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Meeting the Carivan: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok, now you have been introduced to everyone and learned why they are stuck in the woods... stupid vines. Ruby wants to go talk to Jean, so follow her off an once you find her ask her all three possible questions. Then when she is askin you questions Lucia is snatched up by a living vine! Hiro is about to help but then Jean kicks the living crap out of it with her bare hands and saves Lucia! She then asks you to forget and never speak of this to anyone. Then you will see a neat cut-scene of her and her Shadow Dragon training. Now, the next day you wake up and Ronfar returns from the hot springs, so you and Lucia and Ruby decide to go. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Hot Springs: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Talk to the man at the door of the springs and he'll tell you that Hiro needs to go to the right and Lucia to the left. Well Ruby should go left but she goes with Hiro anyway. Then you see Hiro and Ruby splashing each other when Ruby let out a scream! Its Lucia! Hiro is so surprised he can't even speak, Lucia has no clue what they are upset about... I will let you find out for yourself how the cut-scene for this part goes! So anyway once your out of the water... with some clothes on mind you, Ruby gives Lucia a talk on, well you know. Then you hear this big noise and run back to the camp. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Plantela Vines! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- A Vine creature is all over the place grabbing people and pulling them into the ground. So naturally you have to go and get them out, with some persuading Jean decides to come with you. Once you are down there, fight with the enemies (goblins) until you reach the white and round area at the bottom of the tunnel. Ok, now once you go in you will see the Plantela itself, its very big and not very nice looking. Gabin will tell you to be careful, then the battle is on. I mean this thing is not that easy either! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Plantela ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok, against this thing you wanna use the best attacks you've got, and having a fighter like Jean with you is a very lucky advantage. Hiro should use his Poe Sword, I used the Anger Dice with Ronfar and have Jean use the Bee Dance and Sleep Step. Eventually you think you have beat it, but it is just transforming and the brown comes off. Now instead of vines it spits brown nuts at you. I would just keep using the same attacks and sometimes have Ronfar use his spell to heal members. Sometimes even Lucia pitches in with a Napalm Shot. Then once again it will transform after enough damage and turn into a woman. Keep up the fight and eventually you will kill it and free your friends. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Takkar Village: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok, now it is time for your party to leave the carivan, and we have great news because Jean decided to come with you! Well, once you depart you will travel to the small village of Takkar, and this is a very important part of the game. Go into the tavern (ale house) and talk to the cloaked woman at the table and she will tell you that she is from the Magic Guild and you can take the test to join, then Ruby says something and she leaves. Now go talk to the man who is guarding the _North Gate_. Talk to him and he will tell you that a monster is on the lose and that the Althena Guard says no one can leave. Luckily this stranger will show you another way out, if your up to the challenge. Now, keep going along the path, the bird thing will get to you almost right when you start. After you kill it, keep moving you have along way to go. Soon you will come up on a group of ape looking creatures, who throw rocks, do not get hit by the rocks, and you might as well not try to run, because you can't. Fight them until your path is clear, then soon you will come to a building and you should probably save before you enter it. Now once you go into the building you will find that there are a lot of new enemies, and some of them are a lot different, so make sure you check the monster bestiary. You don't know which way to go at first, so just start with the left side, and fight the monster guarding the chest. Now skip the next opening and then get to the other chests besides that passage. Now once you have got all the others go back to that one you skipped. Fight your way through, if you kill all monsters in the entire passage (I mean the whole thing) then you will gain some levels. One of which a very useful thing Jean will gain is the Butterfly dance. Once you are through the maze like passages I would save after replenishing health with either herbs, items and try not to use all your magic, you will need it. Now continue until Ruby see's the large statue in the middle of the room which she foolishly thinks is a ride. Well the "ride" is going to come to life, and its not exactly the most fierce looking boss, but he is going to give you a run for your money! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Boss: Magic Tester LXI ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This guy is a real pain in the butt, it seems like this fight just goes on and one forever. Have your order like this: Hiro on the top left so he takes most of the hits, Ronfar and Jean in the back and then Lucia is going to play a more important role than you would think. Keep her where she will be hit on ocassion but not enough to have to heal her. This way she will use the Napalm shot and get you some extra damage, if she gets feinted out, don't worry about reviving her, save them for the more important fighters. Have Ronfar heal you whenever you get into a range where Hiro will feint if he is hit again, and have Jean use her magic until it is gone. After a while his arms will come off, then his feet. He is a four stage boss, unlike the Plantela which was 3. But, once you manage to destroy him, that girl from the village comes out! And she is made at you for destroying her test robot! But, you passed the test to join the guild, to bad you can't join. So she decides to join you until you can come and sign up for the guild. Keep going down the mountain now, and once you get to her flying carpet she will start to take you down, then she sneezes and everyone falls down. Once your down pray at the conveniently located statue and then go and stock up on some supplies. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Trading Village of Nota: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok, come into the village and take your time shopping around, and make sure to look for the treasure chests! Now, I would recommend that you get some armor, you should have more than enough silver after all of the recent fighting. Once you have everything you think you'll need, and you have prayed at the statue (if you didn't when you came in) head to the bridge. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Run in with the Dragonship Destiny: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- You are only going to get halfway across the bridge when you hear a familiar rumbling noise, and once again it is that White Knight Leo. He will have his troops secure you on the bridge, but when he starts to get off the ship you make a run for it, and you decide that in order to get him away from there you will have to lure him from the city, then sneak back. So, head to the carnival up north, and once you get there go to the northern most area and talk to Giben and he will allow you to use the magic arrow to fly over Nota. First though, he says that Lucia has to change her clothes, so then there is a cut scene of her looking at outfits and Ronfar and Hiro sneaking a peak and getting beat up :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hiding in the Circus: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once Lucia has a suitable outfit everyone meets up again, and since Giben is so crafty will dealing with Leo, because wouldn't you know he shows up here right about now, but he gets rid of him. Then, when you are about to get launched you hear Leo yell that he found them and then you all jump in, but before you can take off he shoot the canon and turns it the other way, then you take off. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Ancient Ruins/Seal: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- You will land in the mountains somewhere in some very ancient ruins. After you make sure everyone is ok you see that there is a temple but cannot find a way to get in. Lucia can sense the magic seal of the door and opens it so you go in and what happens next is pretty cool. You will come up to an oddly shaped thing in the middle of the floor and then a cut-scene comes on and then after Lemina says that it was the destruction of Vane and Lucia tells you that the woman was Althena some time again, in the era of Alex the Dragonmaster and Ghaleon the evil man who tried to take over the world. Then you get to wondering how in the heck this got here, then you hear the voice... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ghaleon Lives!: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Then a figure will start to form out of the darkness of the above entrance and it is a strange looking man, who seems to know Lucia some how. He tells her he is Ghaleon! But how is this possible when Alex the Dragonmaster defeated him? Well, who knows... but he is back and he escpapes the ruins, saying something how they are destined to meet again. Now I want you to do something: Go to the leather instruction book and go to the last page of the character information and look at the mystery picture, where it says someone comes out of the past to form an alliance! Well guess what buddy, Ghaleon is actually on your side! (But keep in mind that Hiro and the gang don't know this yet.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Floating Maze: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, you still have to get out of this place, so go to the door and you will come to a maze of floating blocks, manuever yourself so that you make it to the door on the next side, but becareful, because there are monsters on most of the stationary platforms. Once you are through the entire maze you will come to a large sealed door and Lucia says that whoever that Ghaleon man was must have done this because it is VERY strong, but she unlocks it none the less and you head out. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stand at Dragonship Destiny: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once your back on the world map, head forward and all of a sudden you will once again hear that very familiar rumble and Leo has caught you once again and he's shooting at you this time! When he pulls up he tells you to give up and a cool thing happens. Lucia tells Hiro she is going to fight, even though there is no way they can win, and Hiro says he would fight to the death with her, then Ronfar joins in too! Leo doesn't like this so he tells them to shoot the canon, but then all of a sudden electric bolts ruin the canon and strike down Leo! You are so lucky! Your not gonna believe who it is, it is Ghaleon who saved you! After no one can figure out why he did, but they don't really mind it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mountain Town Zulan: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now travel through the snow covered mountains until you come to the town of Zulan, and go to the huge building and get the treasure upstairs, then talk to the woman there with the baby. She will tell you that a monster is destroying the village and that you have to help her daughter who went up to get medicene for the baby and hasn't returned, they fear the worst. When you agree to help Lucia wants no part of this, insisting that it will take to long and that she must find Althena, then when Hiro argues she leaves the group! Well, the rest of the group now needs to head to the entrance to the north mountain range. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The North Zulan Mountains: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The mountains are not a very fun part of the game at all. Ruby will melt the ice doors for you and you have to travel through the canyons and up the snow stairs to reach the next level of the mountain, but there are false doors and they contain monsters. Do not try to run away from anything once you are in battle because it won't work. Now, keep going up through the ice chambers and then once you get to the once with the chest on the right and then the stairs leading down and a door on the right it's the last one. When your out, you will hear a big monster noise, but no one can see it. Then all of a sudden you hear a rumble and think it's the monster, but no it's really a huge avalanche! The next thing you hear is Lucia begging Hiro to wake up, when he does he finds that he cannot move and she heals him. She will tell him that when she was away she missed him fiercely and felt an odd pain in her chest as she got further away, he says he missed her a lot to. Then he thanks her for saving him (lucky she came back eh?) and thanks her for coming back into his life, which makes her blush (smoothie). Then you will go and heal the rest of the party and she apologizes to them all. Now it is time to really fight the beast, but you have another nice surprise waiting for you, and no it is not Ghaleon here to kill it either! There will be a large change in battle now, because Lucia will be fighting! I think this will be a big help later when the monsters are more powerful, her Napalm Strike is better than not having anything, right? So anyway she is now like one of the gang kind of, and just in time for... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Boss: The Missing Link ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This was not nearly as hard as the Plantela was in my opinion. Just keep up the healing with Ronfar and have Hiro attack (Lucia will on her own) until they are feinted out, then it will just be Jean, Lemina and Ronfar. Lemina is by far the most important because it is her fire strike attack and other heat attacks that do crazy huge damage. When he does a whirlwhind around himself, don't even waste your magic just heal and revive feinted members because nothing will hurt him. Eventually he dies and then you are all very happy. Note: Watch out for his attack when he causes the avalanche, be sure to heal enough to survive it! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Resolution of Maria: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once the Link is dead, you still have to find Maria, luckily she is right there and Ronfar sees her, so you get her and take her back to her father. Once you have brought Maria back, she still has no memory and wants to come with you insisting she is of noble blood. Well, you cannot take her with you but what are you gonna do to stop her?! So then when she is about to leave her baby (she still doesn't remember it though) cries and they beg her to go and hold it so maybe she'll remember, she doesn't but decides to stay and to look after it for a while. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Visiting Mast Lunn ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alright, once you are in Meribia you are going to need to go into the very large castle looking building, it is actually Master Lunn's Dojo. When you get in you will watch a small cut scene of him instructing his students, and then when you speak with him he says he has never heard of the Shadow Dragon Fist (which is a load of BS). Now he will tell you that if you can go to the Taben's Peak and locate the cult, that he will lead an assault on it, so now you need to head to Taben's Peak. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Taben's Peak ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you arrive at Taben's Peak, you will see a white baby dragon, and Ruby chases after it, then a strange boy named Nall catches her. He will warn you to leave his property at once so he doesn't have t hurt you. Now, keep going through and up the mountain and eventually the kids will attack you again it is mainly towards Ronfar. Now, you will be captured by the Dragon Kids in a net and then everyone decides to go to sleep in the cell. Now, it is morning again when Hiro finally wakes up and he discovers all his friends are doing chores and stuff. He then looks for Lucia who is upstairs speaking to Nall. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Meeting with Nall ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- When Hiro gets up there, they talk for a bit and then there is a scream and Nall rushes out to the playground, you and your friends follow. When you get out there you will realize that it is the Shadow Dragon Cult trying to steal some of the Kids that Nall watches over. Well, they end up getting away with the kids and it is your job of course to go and rescue them. So, Nall says that once you has to stay so you can't just run off, and he picks Lucia so she can watch the children. Now, go down into the sewers of Meribia through the large store and off you go. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Meribian Sewers ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you are in the sewers you will notice that there are a lot of dead ends and there are raised bridges that you have to get down by going all over the place and hitting the little buttons. Eventually you will just keep going it happened to me, that I just wandered and came upon the Shadow Dragon Cult. I do not know if there is a real way that you have to go, or if that is the only way you can go, if anyone knows any more about this please email me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fighting the Shadow Dragon Cult ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alright, now that you have spotted the Shadow Dragon Cult with the kids you have to get them back. You will fight with the students that the masked man has with him (just use Poe Sword and other group attacks). Once you have defeated them, the masked man will try to talk to Jean but she attacks him and takes his mask. Now the Dragon Kids will leave, so follow them out, do not try to go back the way you came. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Revisiting Nall ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go back the Nall and he will thank you for rescuing the kids. Lucia is out in the playground singing for some kids, because they taught her lullabies. Now, when you are leaving the fortress, Ball will catch up with you and he will give you're the Dragon Wings, so you can go back to the entrance of a dungeon in the event of an emergency, these will come in very handy. Now go back, and start out for the city of Vane, and the path is now clear. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Onward to Vane ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- When you get to the entrance of Vane, Bordan the wizards men will not allow you to pass, because he is on some important business. Now, you are going to have to backtrack a bit, but go back to the world map and then go to the small pond. This is the spring of transmission, a way into Vane from the old world. Now, use it and you will end up in the cave of testing. Make your way through the cave and then into the city. You cannot pick up the treasure but you will be able to later. If you didn't use the statue at Nall's place use the one in the city. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Magic City of Vane ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, once you are into the city, you are going to want to go and stock up on anything your low on (herbs, fruit etc.) and then make your way to Lemina's house. Here you will meet her mother, and Bordan, who is not very nice. He's trying to get Lemina's mother to come with him to Neo-Vane. When Lemina does not agree he transports her mom to Neo-Vane with him and his men, and then there is a cut scene where Lemina thinks herself a failure, after you guys cheer her up, it is off to Avado to meet one of Ronfars friends and then to get a boat to Pentagulia. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Going to Avado ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you are in the city, go to the shrine and talk to the man next to the large statue, he and Ronfar will converse for a while and you will find out that the old High Priest has been thrown out and that his house is the only one with the red roof, so you can go and find it. When you get to the house you will talk to his son Poram, then the high priest will come out and you all go into his house and talk. After he says he can get you a boat, rest at his house for a while. When nightfall comes you will find out about how it is no longer safe at night because Mauri has a prophecy of fire to all those who are evil. So now head to the boat (the largest one) and once you board I would suspect you will immediately notice that it's the Dragonship Destiny. Now, Ruby makes some noise and then Leo and his men come up on deck and even after the fight you are captured. Just then fire shoots out all over the city and Leo thinks it is the work of Lucia the destroyer, but then Hiro shows him that it is the flame from the torch. Now, they tell Leo what the high priest told them about the evil chosen, so he decided he needs to hear it from them himself, so Hiro, Ronfar and him set off. Once you get to the house you will see a cut scene and the son trying to help the father. Now, talk to them and then go to the shrine. Use the entrance on the right once inside the shrine and keep going up. You will see the chosen causing the fire and Leo decides that you guys have to put it out. So now go into the door on the left and you will keep going until you reach the torch on the outside of the statue. Boss: Fire Phoenix Now the statue's flames are going to come alive and turn into the shape of a bird and lucky you gets to fight it. Leo should be the one who takes the one person hits because he has the highest HP. Have Ronfar use healing and have Hiro use Poe Sword. Leo should use the Flash Blade, or heal himself whenever he has to. It is a very long fight, but eventually you will kill it and the city will no longer be burning. Now you need to get back to the ship and get your friends. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Appearance of Mauri ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you get back to the ship Leo will act as if he is going to kill Lucia, but then he sets all your friends free! Just then Mauri appears and says if he will not kill Lucia and take out Althena's will, then she will. Leo then tells her if she does he will strip her of her power, because he can do that being the White Knight. Now, she will disappear and he decides that he has a little faith in Lucia, but not enough to free her. He decides you will all go to Pentagulia aboard the Dragonship Destiny, then you can seek what you wanted to with Althena, but if you start anything he'll kill you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Aboard the Dragonship Destiny ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- While your aboard the ship, Ronfar will go and tell you to check out the interior, you should remember it well, since you saved Lucia from the ship a while back. Once you see her below deck, she will ignore you, then find the door to go up to the deck, and when you see her Hiro will cleverly get Ruby away so he can talk to her. He goes up there and speaks with her, and she is an emotional wreck, it is obvious she wants to stay but cannot, and doesn't know why she feels this way, so she just gets really mad at Hiro. Once you get to Pentagulia the ship will dock and you say your goodbyes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Arrival at Pentagulia ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you get there enter the very large building and then you will find Leo waiting at the top of the stairs, and you are allowed to go in and see her. Ghaleon is inside and you have to wait in silence as she comes, but Lucia is trying to tell them that it is not really Althena and they hush her. Then she talks to Althena and yells at her for not really being Althena, she does attack her and Ghaleon blocks it. He then strikes her, and then it is time for Hiro and Ghaleon to get it on, because Hiro doesn't think he should have hit her. Boss: Ghaleon It should be apparent that you cannot win against Ghaleon, so just do as best you can, until the scene cuts, he will knock you out, and then Leo will ask if he can take care of you because you are innocent, but he does not care about Lucia. The next thing you know you are in jail. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rescuing your Party ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, you are going to be saved by Leo, but he is wearing a mask and calling himself Mystere. Now you have to go and get all of the others so that you can save Lucia, even though he doesn't know where she is. Once you rescue each one of them you will hear a different story regarding how they're mini quests turned out, here is what we heard: Jean: Jean went back to see Lunn who was in Pentagulia, and when she gave him the mask he got all defensive, and when she said that she knew she had heard the voice before but couldn't place it, he lets the cat out of the bag. He is the leader of the Shadow Dragon Cult! Now, she will challenge him to a fight and he accepts, knocking her out with one shot, then when she got awake she found herself in jail. Ronfar: He went to seek out Mauri, and upon finding her that had a little bit of an argument which resulted in Ronfar being taken away to his cell. You see he wanted her to change, and kept telling her she was under some spell, but then she says no it was his fault, then he gets all upset and we've got some tempers flairing, and he tells her he can't live without her. Then her true self gets through the curse just a little bit, and then he was sent away. Lemina: When she went to talk to Bordan the Wizard, he wouldn't bring back her mother, and he says that she is in the city of Neo-Vane, and she likes it and doesn't want to come back. Lemina doesn't believe this, so she says she will take him out, then he tells her that he plans to marry her mom and make her a daughter, she gets very made and he knocks her out and sends her to her cell. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Save Lucia ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you have rescued all the others, work your way through with Leo, now he is no longer Mystere, until you come upon a cut scene of Ghaleon talking to her, then when he is gone find the passage through to that room and set her free. Now that you have her she says that you must find Althena and runs off after thanking everyone... Leo meanwhile is in denial and runs off because he cannot believe it is the fake Althena. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The 5th Tower of Althena ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, when you catch up with Lucia, she will say that the presence of Althenas magic is very strong here and you need to go there. Of course the humans cant see the tower like Lucia, so they just jump in the water anyway. When you get there you see it, and Lucia tries to free Althena but finds that the seal is to strong. Then the fake Althena and Lunn, Mauri and Bordan appear... luckily Nall gave you that Dragon Wing, because he totally saves your butt! You are transported away to him, and Ghaleon is scolded for not being in time, then he is talked to by Zophar and told not to chase them anymore. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Returning to the White Dragon ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nall has brought you back and reveals that he is in fact the white dragon, after you left there Ghaleon came and took his Aura. Now he says you have to go and get it back, then set the white dragon free, in a cave surrounded by Ice Bergs which is northwest from here. He also tells you that before you can set him free, you have to fight with Leo to get the Aura. So first you need to go to Vane and stock up on supplies, and then go to the Dragonship Destiny and when you get on board Leo knows he has to fight you... Boss: Leo the White Knight Leo is not that hard at all, and it is very easy to figure out what attack he is going to do, so you will know when to heal or attack. All you have to do is wait out until he can no longer heal and then you will have defeated him. He gives you the Aura, and then a little surprise, he is leaving you in control of the Dragonship Destiny! He shows you how to navigate it and now you take it out for a spin! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The White Dragon Caves ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- These caves are not very fun at all, so I hope you brought a lot of healing and magic refillers. Basically fight all of the enemies and then go around the bottom and you will come into another section. From here you will have to run or fight from door to door, and keep in mind whatever you run from will still be there when you have to leave. So eventually you will get to a door with a set of stairs right in front of it and then a large open surface. Heal and all that stuff now, so that you won't have to waste battle turns. Walk forward and then you'll see what you up against. At first you thinks it's the white Dragon but it's a fake, and you have to kill it to unblock the door. Boss: White Fiend This thing is crazy strong, and JP Lee says that it is actually the weakest of the things you'll have to face! So you are going to need Lemina and Hiro to be the main attackers, with Poe Sword and Fire Shot, so have Jean stand in the front, because her magic is basically useless. Lucia will heal people a lot which helps, but Ronfar might have to as well. Keep attacking then once you do finally kill it, everyone will level up. Now head to the door that it was in front of and get this over with. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Freeing Nall (The White Dragon) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nall will be in there and he wants you to throw the aura at the crystal so that it can be set free, when you do he turns into the white dragon again! Then he tells Ruby not to be so obsessed with Hiro, and eventually she will have to turn into the Red Dragon! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Blue Dragon Aura ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now the next aura you need to find is the blue dragon aura which is in the possession of Master Lunn! Now, first you need to go to Horam, and stock up on a ton of supplies and heal yourself at the statue. Go to the large place that is actually the Dojo of Wong-Lee and speak with him. Now Jean will be the representative for their Dojo at Lunn's tournament. He will teach her to use the Blue Dragon Palm attack. Now head to the small place south of Horam. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Fighting Tournament ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- When you get there pray, and then show the man at the door the invitation so that he will let you in (Wong gives it to you). Once you get in, talk to the man next to the stairs of the wring (not the salesman the other guy). He will ask if you are ready to start, and if you are go and fight! FIRST! Before you fight you need to go and talk to Lunn first, so he promises to fight you if you win the tournament. Now, first fight some pretty weak guys you shouldn't have a problem with. Now you have to watch the Cult kill of some guys. Then talk to the man again and fight the Wolf Karate Clan. After beating then you will face the Shadow Dragon Cult. Just keep healing and using Batallion and Blue Dragon Palm, eventually they will die. Now, go and heal yourself at the statue outside and then confront Lunn. Boss: Master Lunn He will keep good to his word, and he will fight you. Use the Blue Dragon Palm and healing Nuts whenever you need to, and just wait out the fight kind of the way you had to do with Leo. When he is defeated he will denounce Zophar and he will give you the Blue Dragon Aura then he realizes he must retrain himself to be good and not evil, so now he is a good guy again. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Blue Dragon Cave ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok, after you have defeated Master Lunn, its time to put the Blue Dragon Aura to good use. You need to travel on the Dragonship Destiny all the way back to Horam and stock up on HP and MP healing items in the shop, also make sure to pray if you have not already done so. Now, go to the cave that is north of the city and it has a ring of tree on top of it, but you will be surprised to find that it holds ice inside. Now, once you enter you are going to have to fight your way through to the first door, some of the enemies in here are Tiger Sharks and Water Elementals so you need to be cautious at least. Now, once you get through to the next cavern, you are going to have to fight the Doom Rigger, and even though I have its strategy below, this is like a mini boss so here it is again: DOOM RIGGER - These are not that hard to fight but they do take away some MP that you are gonna wish you had against the Blue Feind. Usually they don't even attack, they just shoot off smaller things that attack. Use the Batallion Sword if you have enough MP tp get rid of most of the little ones at the same time. After enough damage the large thing will just run away, leaving you to get rid of its off spawns. Once you have defeated the Doom Rigger, you will jump across of the series of blocks in the middle of the water, don't worry about falling, the CPU does it for you. Get the hurricane staff out of the chest from near by, and don't even try to go into the waterfall because you cannot. Make your way through to the next door, and there is another chest, as well as another one of these stupid Doom Riggers. Once through the door enter the next room and then follow the same routine of getting the chest and then the next door. Once in the next door get the treasure chest, and enter the next door. You are going to have to jump across the blocks again, but you should be an old pro at this by now. Once you get to the next door there is yet another chest! And you might be surprised to find that in the next door there is another one! Ok, now that you have all that if you would kindly make your way to the left, you will see the Blue Feind. If you say to yourself how easy the last one was, he will totally beat the crap out of you. Make sure everyone is healed and ready to go before you engage in battle. Boss: Blue Feind This is a lot like the White Fiend, and it is a difficult fight regardless, use much the same strategy that you did with the White Fiend, and you should be ok. Remember there is nothing wrong with not killing it the first time, just keep trying and learn from your mistakes. More emails come in about this than anything, so just remember to save BEFORE you start to fight... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mining Neo-Vane ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Your going to have to find your way out of here and it is pretty annoying, use the save thing to look at what rooms your in, and it should help you out atleast a little bit. Your gonna have to find Ronfar and Jean, because they have no real magic and are seperated and sent to these mines when you try to enter the city. Once you have them both in the party again, it is time to confront Borgan. You are going to have to find your way into the palace by going through the mines, and this will take a while (almost an hour for me). But once you do get through you should have a chance to heal etc.. Once you get up to him, talk to him a couple times then fight with him. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fight with Borgan ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Borgan is pretty strong, but if I could beat him the first try, you should be able to as well. Have Hiro use his fire blade attacks, and Lemina is the biggest asset to your party. Have her use her more powerful fire magics too. Jean will just do Blue Dragon Fist/Kicks and have Ronfar heal when needed. I would count on it always, but sometimes Lucia will help out as well with her Napalm Shot, which doesn't really do anything, but what the heck. Once you beat him, you will have a heart to heart talk with him. Oh, also watch out for his shield, dot try to disable it with magic, just keep attacking it and it will eventually break. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coming to Terms with Borgan ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you have defeated Borgan, he is going to spill his heart out to Lemina and you will find he is not as bad as you thought. He will give you the Aura for the Black Dragon, now go and find your way back through the mines out of the city. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Mines of Zaback ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok now that you have defeated Borgan go back to the Zaback (the town) and then go into the house with the door leading to the mines. You will need to explore all of the rooms in the mines and get all the treasure chests. The bombs are very annoying but they can be avoided in most cases. Make your way through it all until you come to the last area, then go to the door leading to the Black Fiend cave, you will have to use the key Borgan gave you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: The Black Fiend ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Make your way through the Black Dragon cave and you will then find the Black Fiend. I thought the last Fiend would be the hardest, but I was very wrong. You are going to need to save before you fight this guy, cause odds are you won't kill it the first time. The hard part is that only magic will really do anything to it. So try to use all of your most powerful magics quickly and kill it before it has a chance to do the same, and use Jean and maybe even Ronfar as healers and item users if necessary. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Dragonship Destiny Returns ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you have defeated the Black Fiend, the Black Dragon will be freed and so will the Dragonship destiny which is good cause you are going to be doing some traveling. Go back to the ship and then find your way to Raculi where Mauri used to live. When you get their talk to Leo the White Knight (yes its been a long time). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mauri ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok once you get to the temple go through and you will come upon Mauri and Leo and you go up to them and Ronfar goes into Mauri, this is kinda weird. When you are using Ronfar, choose the second and then the middle Mauri, this is the easiest way to fight the monster. Eventually you will kill the flame head and then receive the Red Dragon Aura. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Mauri's ID ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a pretty fun fight actually, not very difficult like I imagined it being. All you have to do is use your higher end Magics and go for the head that is flaming, and you will have her killed in no time. Once you have beaten it, Mauri will be returned back to normal, as will all of the people in Raculi who had gone insane. Leo will then leave the party, and it is time for you to enter the Red Dragon Cave to face the last of the Feinds! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Red Dragon Cave ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you get the Aura, Mauri will tell you where the cave is and you will need to go there pronto. Make your way through the cave collecting as many of the items as you can. Remember you should have healed before coming to find Mauri, at the statue in the temple. This fight coming will be easier but not that easy so be careful ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Red Fiend ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the last of the trapped Dragons, and it is guarded by the Red Fiend. Use Hiro and Lemina's powerful magics to hurt the Dragon, while Ronfar is as always the healer and Lucia will chip in sometimes. Jean can make or break in this fight, depending on whether or not you can use the White Dragon Protect enough times. Figure out the pattern it will attack with (Or just go to JP Lees Guide which is great for Bosses). And use that when necessary. Once you have killed the Red Fiend, you will find out that Nall was right and Ruby was the Red Dragon, which she will turn into after that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Freed Dragons ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The four dragons are not very happy campers and are going to bust up that shield around the city of Pentagulia which Althena is trapped in. Make your way through the city and then to the Tower. Here you will do battle with a very evil person, The Fony Althena which Lucia Identified earlier. Ruby will return to the ship telling Hiro how they took out that shield like nobodies brother. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Holy City ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Fake Goddess Althena is very worried (you will see the scene later) about losing the city, and he reassures her that everything will be fine. The city is pretty run down, and there is no where to buy anything, so do that before you get here for gods sake! Now, once you get off the boat at the dock, its pretty easy to get by the zombie guys that are waiting outside their, as well as it will be easy to do when you have to come out too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: The False Althena ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok, now that your free to get into the city, your going to have to go through the Althena's Roads to get to the Goddess Tower. This is not that easy, as I started run out of MP about half way through. Now once you get to the 9th Road you will go into the Goddess Crossing. Here you can heal at a statue, and then keep going cause your gonna have to fight the Fake Althena. When you come upon here she will be blocking the wave to the real Althena's tower. She is pretty easy to defeat, especially if you have Triple Sword (I didn't at that point, and still beat her pretty easily.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Truth about the Goddess Althena ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, once you get past the Fake Althena and her Canon Angels, you will eventually come to Nall, who is at the top of the Goddess Tower. He will then show Lucia something very shocking that is going to change the outcome of the rest of the game as you know it. There is no Goddess Althena anymore! Back 1000 years ago, when she came to earth as Luna, she fell in love with Alex the Dragonmaster and chose to stay human with him, giving up her immortality. She explains to Lucia that humanity holds the power large enough to defeat Zophar, and that she can do it! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lucia Claims Althena's Power! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lucia is stunned by what has transpired about Lunar/Althena, and becomes almost frantic. Hiro tries to talk her down but she won't let him near her. She claims the power of Althena, which takes away the Magic of all the people in Lunar, except Zophar, and then rushes off to find and confront him. Meanwhile our heroes are left magic-less when the tower starts to crumble. Ronfar happens to the one to point that out and they make a break for it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Evacuating the Goddess Tower ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hiro is still pretty shocked by what happened with Lucia only moments ago but he still manages to lead them out of the falling tower. Luckily you don't have to fight anything on the way down, the AI just kinda lets you go. Now when you get out you will board the Dragonship Destiny and go up the steering wheel and hit X this will start the next chain of events, which is very important, so pay attention! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Zophar Revived! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- You guessed it that crazy rumbling and huge dark form coming out of the ocean can only mean one thing, "He's Back...". No but seriously this is a pretty crazy cut scene, the animators did a great job blending the computer graphics with the drawn in anime. ANYWAY, Zophar basically swallows the tower up like a giant jellyfish and it will later become Zophar's Lair, where the final stand will take place. Just as you think things can't get any worse, everyone is knocked out, then when you wake up you find Lucia confronting Zophar! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lucia vs. Zophar! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mills Lane: "Ok I want a good clean fight, Zophar, no black magic and Lucia watch the biting! Let's get it on!" SERIOUSLY, though Lucia stands in front of Zophar in open defiance because she HAS the power to destroy, although she won'' use it. Zophar tells the story of the destruction of the Blue Star, and how Althena had to use all the power in Lunar to do it, just as Lucia was about to use now, which would destroy Zophar, but Lunar along with him. Lucia had not told them this, and her friends are quite shocked but not out of it yet. Hiro yells in open defiance to Zophar, as Lucia is gathering the power to destroy him. Then she hesitates, and Zophar is annoyed and says he will destroy her distraction. So he send a huge ball of power hurtling at the Dragonship Destiny. Well Lucia holds her ground for a while then goes to save her friends. When she lets her guard down Zophar captures her and is about to destroy Hiro and the gang when she uses her last bit of magic to transport them away to safety. END DISC 2 - INSERT DISC 3 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Up on the Roof... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you get disc three in there, your going to find Hiro and Ruby on the roof of the Magic Guild. Ruby will start talking to Hiro who seems to have his feet on the ground and his mind in the clouds. Ruby will tell you that its been three days since the confrontation with Zophar, and that you need to start letting it go and think of a way to save the world. Hiro is reluctant to listen. That's when Ruby tells him Miria (Lemina's Mom) wants to see him. She is in the middle room downstairs with Borgan. Now, shes going to tell you to go find the rest of the gang before she tells you what she has to say. For now, ignore Ramus the salesboy, although don't waste money, you will need him later. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Finding the Gang... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- You are going to have to go find the three remaining heroes (Lucia is no longer with you). First go find Lemina, who is in the Cave of Trials. You can get in there by entering the very small building up by the front entrance to the city. Just keep talking to her until she has nothing left to say. Now its time to find Ronfar, who is in the Library (Big building on the left side of town) with Mauri. Talk to him, and get the two treasure chests in the library, theres on in the top left corner and one in the bottom right corner. Now you need to find Jean who is training with Master Lunn on the left balcony near the Althena Statue. Talk to her, and heal if necessary. Now head back to talk to Miria. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Miria's Message ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Miria sent Hiro off to find all of his friends hoping that he would see the common trait among them, every single one of them was getting ready to go fight with Zophar. And she tells him that he is the one who taught them to never give up and fight to the end. This helps Hiro a little bit but he is still hesitant. NOW this is very important. Before you go to the roof to see who the Guild visitor is that Miria wants you to go talk to, buy as many supplies as you can from Ramus (StarLights, Angel Tears, Healing Nuts, etc..). Now head back up to the roof. Where you are going to find Leo! He has come to help you fight Zophar and has readied the Dragonship Destiny, and says he will meet you down there! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ghaleon's Last Stand... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well wouldn't you know it just as Hiro is getting through the door to go down to the ship someone familiars voice cracks the sky. Yes you guessed it, its Ghaleon! Everyones favorite evil Magician/World Conqueror. Well he has some not very nice things to say about Hiro, and also mentions how pathetic his friends are for even thinking they could defeat Zophar. He tells Hiro that he has come to kill him, because Hiro is not worthy to die at Zophar's Judgement. Well Hiro will have none of this and stands his ground! Then Ghaleon explains to him why Lucia didn't destroy Lunar along with Zophar. And then strikes Hiro down, and when Hiro tries to get up, Zophar tells him its time to die alone basically. Well that's about the same time Ronfar and the crew shows up *The boys are back in town, and when the boys are back there ain't no foolin' around!* Well Ghaleon still doesn't seem worried, and with a little pep talk your off to fight him! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS: Ghaleon ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Round 1: No Magic... This first round is tougher in my opinion than the second one, which will be a relied if you can manage to live through this one. Have Lemina stay back and heal since her attacks are basically worthless. Leo, Ronfar, Hiro and Jean (make sure she has the right weapon) are the ones gonna be doing the damage. Just keep having them all do their normal attacks, and heal when necessary. Ghaleon is obviously holding back, but what the heck. Now by the end of this first round, all of your party members will probably not be conscious, that's ok, they will come back for the second round. Now once you have done enough damage to trigger the second round there is another talking section and Ghaleon says your all still weak and that he underestimated you, but you will still die then he strikes them all down. Amazingly they get up and still have confidence to win! Now its time to go for real! Round 2: Magic's Back! Now in this fight it's a little different now that the magic is back, and Ghaleon is totally outnumbered. Have Hiro use Poe Sword, and Jean use White Dragon Protect on the group attacks. Ronfar should revive faints and heal as necessary (Miracle Litany). And then have Leo use Flash blade and Jean use Blue Dragon Palm as much as she can when she isn't protecting. Now this fight will go for a while and you will probably be short a couple members at the end, but hopefully you bought enough stuff from Ramus downstairs like I told you. (Now for all the people who blew that warning off, DON'T YOU WISH YOU HAD NOW? HUH!?). Well anyway, once you beat Ghaleon, you'll hear that familiar Boss is dead kinda music. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ghaleon's Repentance ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now Hiro knows and its pretty obvious that Ghaleon let them win, since he could have killed all of them at the start. When Hiro asks why, Ghaleon answers that he was brought back to life by the power of Zophar to serve him, but it was no coincidence. He hid his true motives to betray Zophar from him, and came back to make up for the evil sins he once committed. He will also give you his sword, since he says he cannot join you in the fight. (Zophar's power brought him back and keeps him alive, and once he learns of the betrayel, he will take it away). Hiro and Ghaleon clasp hands and Hiro promises to kill Zophar for Ghaleon's sake. Now, you can go buy stuff again from Ramus and heal at Althena's Statue, but if you want to go that don't talk to Ghaleon again yet! Once your ready, come back and talk to him, then you he will transport you to the Dragonship destiny, where you will then sail to Zophar's Lair. He will watch you sail away and says a few things to himself, then is drawn up into the heavens, where he now belongs for saving you and giving you the power to kill Zophar. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Zophar's Lair ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- When you are on the Destiny and you pull up to it, your going to see a cut scene of Lucia and Hiro talking and Lucia tries to warn him to leave, but Hiro is still devoted to saving her. When she asks him why he is so kind and nice to her, he is about to say he loves her, but she disappears. Now for gods sake Hiro is pissed off, or at least he should be, so its time to go get a piece of Zophar once and for all! When you start out in the Lair the monsters are not much to be afraid of. If your not leveled up enough (I wasn't). You are going to have to keep fighting the enemies at the beginning of the lair and healing at the Ship until you are like level 50 or 51 so you can use the Triple Sword. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confronting the Destroyer, Zophar... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alright good, you made it through the lair without taking to much damage hopefully. Now, the boss Zophar is in four different forms and the first two are not going to be a problem and neither is the fourth, but the third form is the one that gets people messed up, so I am gonna try to explain as much as possible. Once you get to him, you'll see Lucia trapped and she'll tell you to run away, and then you'll see Zophar in his true state. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Zophar Form 1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The first form is not a very tough fight, have Hiro use Triple Sword, Ronfar as always is the healer of the party when necessary. Now depending on whether you have items to get back magic, If you do, have Leo use Flash Blade the whole time and Lemina can use Catastrophe. Jean should use Blue Dragon Palm. The tricky part is, judging how much longer the fight will last so you can replenish Hiro's MP, so you will have enough for the next round, which is VERY important. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Zophar Form 2 (Sub-Form) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now in this form your primary concern is not to do damage to the head. But rather to take out atleast one of the flashing hands, and do some major damage on the other of the 2. I usually go for the one on the bottom first, but it doesn't matter. Have Hiro use Triple Sword, Jean use Dragon Fist, Lemina can use Catastophe (very important attack). Ronfar can heal and attack if possible. Leo should use Flash Blade or Soul Blade, depending on the MP status he is at. Now keep attacking the 1 hand until its gone, then with what time you have left go for the other (FLASHING HANDS ONLY!). Eventually Lucia will get away from him, now on to the hard part... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Zophar Form 3 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, right when the fight starts, go all out on the hand that is left over from the fight before. Once that is done, just start attacking the head, don't worry about the body. Now hopefully you have some items to get back your magic, because about half way through the fight your gonna be in trouble if you don't. The ENTIRE time Lemina should use White Dragon Protect. Jean should use Dragon Palm to save MP (not Kick). Hiro will use Triple Sword for as long as he can and Ronfar will heal the entire party (EVERY TURN). There are a lot of factors that go into this fight, and I think mine lasted like 11 or 12 turns. Once this form is dead, it will crack up like a mirror, then the easy part comes! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Zophar Final Stand (4) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now Zophar is still in denial but that doesn't really matter, all you have to do is put the finishing touches on him, and you've beat the regular game. Have Hiro use Triple sword 3-4 times and Lucia will attack him or heal you. Now don't worry if you don't have enough magic to do Triple Sword the first turn, just use an item, because Zophars attacks are pretty weak. Once you have defeated him, there will be large story scenes which are explained below. ============================================================================ IV. Points - 6 Silver - 15 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Dung Beetle Found in: East Desert Pass Battle Stats: Attack - 17 Attacks - 1 Defense - 20 Agility - 12 Speed - 18 Wisdom - 6 Magic End - 6 Range - 12 Luck - 1 Hit Points - 5 Exp. Points - 1 Silver - 1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Goblin These are kind of like the Dung Beetles of the forest, they are very week so if you can get one good attack on them they will die. A very easy way to get rid of a lot of them is the Squall attack, if they are close enough together but if not try Ronfars destiny dice, a lucky pick will kill them all. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Hop Goblin These are a step up from the Green Goblins and they carry a better weapon, I don't think they are that powerful, but be careful of them. Usually a hit an another good hit will take care of them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Goblin King These are very strong and very annoying. They have a nasty habit of powering up the rest of the group, as if HopGoblins weren't all buff already! A nice way once you have Jean is to paralyze them, then they cant do it. Three to four good solid attacks should get rid of them, has to be magic ones though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Captain (Althena Guard) These are very tough, but they are relatively rare and are a gold mine for the experience points. Four to five good magic hits should kill them, but if they are with a private try to use things that hit both of them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Private (Althena Guard) These are just a toned down version of the captain and will take less to get rid of, but then they are usually in pairs, so you have to use just as much magic to kill them. They will dodge normal attacks, so magic only again. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Hummingbird These are fats so they are hard to avoid, they usually show up with a goblin so they aren't that hard to kill off. A few good magic attacks take care of the pests, and why is a freakin hummingbird attacking you anyways? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Scorpions Poisonous and annoying, luckily they aren't very fast so you can usually not even come into contact with them. A few good magic hits they are history. I hate facing them, because they make me nervous, if they ever really used the pinchers right, they'd chop you in half! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Poison Beetles The most annoying and you would think weak enemy of all, but alas they are a very serious threat to you. They are poisonous biters and take a couple hits to get rid of, so use magic and do it fast, or you'll be dead very quickly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Killer Fly These are a pest and they are pretty easy to kill, they can poison you so I would think it wise to try to dispose of them as quick as possible. Ruby is fun to watch in flying combat with them after the main turns. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Banshee Foul You really won't run into these that much, and even when you do they are not all that powerful. They resemble a ghost like wrath, but a couple good hits of magic and they fall just like the rest. They have decent attacks against you but nothing to cry about. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Rufus These are like super annoying, and they are pretty fast so they are hard to avoid, they take a coupe good magic hits, and they are similar to the Goblin in the forest. They are not very intelligent and Jeans spells should work. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Death Worm Bleh! Whoever thought up these annoyances should be shot! They take 3, yes 3 good magic hits, so they don't die with their escorting monsters, and they suck you in and get you closer to the other monsters attacks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Mud Cyclops These are not very common and shouldn't be any trouble for you to take care of. In most instances they are dead before they even get a chance to attack so its not a problem. They usually come with some escorts though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Rolling Imp These guys are pretty easy to kill and there are 2 forms, one where they are moving their feet, and then if they aren't they can shoot there head at you and turn into one of those, be cautious of them in larger numbers. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Knuckle Buster These are tougher than you would think. Normal attacks do next to nothing so you have to use magic, and not just any magic will harm them. Use the Anger Dice and that's about it, unless you want 1 hit point per attack. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Susie Death Ah! These are friggin annoying to, they suck the power right out of you, and normal magic doesn't do jack against the. One attack that I have found very useful against them is the Sleep Step, once there out, one hit will kill'em. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Man Eater These are kinda common either, and you should have no problem taking them with a couple deent magic hit, and you might even want to use normal attacks if you are in a state of low magic to try to conserve it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Killer Buzz These are just your average enemy, maybe a little stronger than a few, but I wouldn't say they are as powerful as a Death Worm. You should be cautious but its not like there a boss or anything huge. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Killer Shroom This is a very rare and not very hard to kill enemy. One solid magic attack and then a smaller attack (sword/fan hits) should kill it easy. I believe that they are only in the one building, but I am not sure right now :P ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Parasite very rare and only in a couple area's, they are not that tough, they kind of look like an octopus and no they do not suck onto you or anything, so get it out of your head, what do you think this is Alien 3?! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Dark Knight These are pretty tough but luckily I have only found them in like one small room in the floating maze, so they arent that abundant. Use strong magic and for gods sake don't try to use normal attacks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Wyburn This is not that tough, but I wouldn't want to fight them in larger numbers because they are a pest. There decent attack strength, but not that great. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Barbarian These are pretty common in a couple areas they are similar to the HopGoblins in the forest, they look tougher than they are. Use magic and don't try to use normal attacks, or they will slap you around. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Reflector Only seen in the floating maze in the ruins, very easy to kill and they only inflict average damage. Contrary to popular belief they do not reflect your attack back at you, because that would really suck. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Razor Wolf These are pretty tough, and when you are getting low on magic they are super hard when there is more than one. Do not use Ronfars Coin attack because if you guess wrong you are in serious trouble with these things! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Albino Chimp Well in the colder mountains these are pretty abundant, I cant remember if it was chimp or ape, so hopefully someone email, and im sure they will :P But anyway, they about the same strength as a Hop Goblin. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Tormentor These are not that tough to get rid off, just use a couple of magic attacks and you will have them dead in no time, they do average damage so you might want to heal after a couple attacks, use group attacks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Magic Hat These are really stupid because most of your magic won't work on them and I do remember that they can do decent damage on their better attacks, so be on the look out, and make sure everyone is healed up! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Dark Sorcerer These are pretty tough, I am so sick if finding that out in the shrine too! Use magic when you can and luckily Leo can help you out a lot, if he wasn't here you would be in some serious poo. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Octo Plant These are pretty tough, and when you are getting low on magic they are super hard when there is more than one. Do not use Ronfars Coin attack because if you guess wrong you are in serious trouble with these things! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Dream Leech Ah! These are friggin annoying to, they suck the power right out of you, and normal magic doesn't do jack against the. One attack that I have found very useful against them is the Sleep Step, once there out, one hit will kill'em. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Fatal Hopper These are pretty common in a couple areas they are similar to the HopGoblins in the forest, they look tougher than they are. Use magic and don't try to use normal attacks, or they will slap you around. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Grog Snake These are not that tough to get rid off, just use a couple of magic attacks and you will have them dead in no time, they do average damage so you might want to heal after a couple attacks, use group attacks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Gargoyle These are not that tough to get rid off, just use a couple of magic attacks and you will have them dead in no time, they do average damage so you might want to heal after a couple attacks, use group attacks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Flash Lord These are very annoying and are about the same as a sorcerer. Use your magic but Not Jeans because it won't work. They are pretty abundant in the shrine in Avado, so be on the lookout, they also have the ability to move so fast that you cant even see them, nice eh? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Sgt. Slaughter These are pretty tough, and when you are getting low on magic they are super hard when there is more than one. Do not use Ronfars Coin attack because if you guess wrong you are in serious trouble with these things! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Gun Foot These are either very weak or very strong. If they shoot the beam at you out of their face it will do some pretty good damage, if they use there claws I think you will survive :P Just use some magic and kill them quickly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Doom Rigger These are not that hard to fight but they do take away some MP that you are gonna wish you had against the Blue Feind. Usually they don't even attack, they just shoot off smaller things that attack. Use the Batallion Sword if you have enough MP tp get rid of most of the little ones at the same time. After enough damage the large thing will just run away. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Tiger Shark These are not that tough to fight, much like the sand sharks only in the ice and their attacks are about the same. Usually Jean or Hiro's normal attack can get rid of them, sometimes it takes a little but more. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Water Elemental These are pretty tough and they are super annoying. About 50% of the time they will cast a mute spell on the first 2 attackers in your party, and it keeps them from using magic until they are healed, so you might want to try and change your order while in the company of these. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Aqua Assasin These have a couple of different attacks, they aren't that strong, but can be a nuisance if you are low on HP and healing items. They never travel by themselves, so it is usually more a matter of killing what escorts them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Magic Masque Found in: Blue Spire Battle Stats: Attack - 20 Attacks - 2 Defense - 40 Agility - 15 Speed - 25 Wisdom - 23 Magic End - 13 Range - 20 Luck - 1 Hit Points - 25 Exp. Points - 1 Silver - 3 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Mummy Found in: Blue Labyrinth Battle Stats: Attack - 20 Attacks - 2 Defense - 36 Agility - 20 Speed - 18 Wisdom - 20 Magic End - 20 Range - 25 Luck - 1 Hit Points - 46 Exp. Points - 6 Silver - 5 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Sand Cyclops Found in: East Desert Pass Battle Stats: Attack - 21 Attacks - 1 Defense - 34 Agility - 10 Speed - 8 Wisdom - 22 Magic End - 8 Range - 25 Luck - 1 Hit Points - 30 Exp. Points - 3 Silver - 4 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Sand Shark Found in: East Desert Pass Battle Stats: Attack - 17 Attacks - 1 Defense - 30 Agility - 12 Speed - 24 Wisdom - 13 Magic End - 14 Range - 30 Luck - 1 Hit Points - 28 Exp. Points - 2 Silver - 2 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Slime Found in: Blue Spire Battle Stats: Attack - 20 Attacks - 1 Defense - 35 Agility - 11 Speed - 11 Wisdom - 11 Magic End - 16 Range - 20 Luck - 1 Hit Points - 21 Exp. Points - 1 Silver - 1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Mecha Star Besides being very annoying, if you let them live TO long, they will cause you some nasty damage, and since these are mostly in areas where your gonna need all the stats you can, try to take them out fast. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Canon Angel These are Very dangerous, have Hiro use a magic attack to get rid of them, because they can do major damage to the whole party. They are in Althena's Tower, after you fight Fake Althena, but you still have a ways to go, so be careful. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Crazy Crab These can be killed pretty easily, but if you let them they will attack the entire party for average damage. They are not hurt much buy some of Lemina's Magic, so your gonna have to use Hiro in most cases. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Stone Knight These guys can just plain brawl with you, and this is not good because they are in Althena's Fortress BEFORE you get to Fake Althena, so your gonna need those stats high, be careful. If they attack one person, they can do over 200 damage, take care of them fast. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Zombie These are fast, and annoying making them a pest. They do average to good damage depending on who they attack. Jean can use Dragon Fist and get rid of them all if you can afford the magic, but Battalion Sword will work for some of them too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Elder Boomba These are a step up from the Big Boomba's. IF they are doing that eye attack, just kill them with like Battalion Sword. If they are exploding be careful, because than, unlike the other 2 types, can do decent damage. Also watch out if they are with other types. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Big Boomba These are a lot like the Boomba's but when they explode on you they do a little bit more damage. Still nothing to pee yourself about, but be careful if your getting low on HP. When they are in large groups is when they are most dangerous. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Boomba These are basically there to annoy and wear down on your stats. They do average damage, and the only way they could faint someone was if they already had low HP and ALL of them attacked that same person, take them out easily. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Hades Geez man who let the dogs out? These guys are ripped, and they let you know it by causing major damage if you don't kill them fast. They are also VERY fast when out of battle mode, so don't plan on running and avoiding them, might as well fight. Note: They are to strong to afford trying to run and then not being able to, they will make you pay for it major. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Snatcher These can be a serious problem if your low on HP and MP because they can paralyze a member of the party, and if you were depending on Jean to do Dragon Fist, that could matter. They can do decent damage, but they are never alone, so just keep an eye on that MP you use killing them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ============================================================================ VI. Authors Notes ============================================================================ -= MY REVIEW OF THE GAME: =- The year is 2000 and Working Designs has just delayed Lunar 2: Eternal Blue, the much-awaited sequel to Lunar: Silver Star Story, much to the dismay of Lunars loyal following. Little did we know that when Working Designs finally did get the game shipped, that it would define an era of the RPG's and set a standard by which all games should be judged. But, don't just take my work for it, let this review be the proof you need to open your eyes to one of the, if not the best game in the history of everything that is electronic or even remotely related to games. The story is quite captivating, although I know a lot of people called it "the generic RPG story line" when it was in the final phases of production and we got glimpses of the story through some assorted previews. The story Is actual a great deal more in-depth than people cared to admit after. Our story is going to start out with a young boy, who is the grandson of a famous "Explorer/Wise man" kind of guy. Now they will go to see what is happening at the mystical Blue Spire and find a beautiful girl who needs they're help, and go on an epic journey, meeting many friends and making many enemies along the way to achieving this girls mission. Well you can see the story like that if you want too, but in a sense, that is the basic plot line for every RPG ever created, so why be so stubborn. All right, the story has more than just one element that makes it great. First off we have the plot line itself. It might not be the most original generally speaking, but there is a great deal of things that set this apart from other games. Working Designs did a great job making sure everything tied in with each other, you'll never see something and be like "what the hell does that mean?" The characters are really the most important thing aside from the plot, and Lunar 2 has the best collection of different personalities for their heroines that I've ever come across, so lets meet them shall me? Hiro: First we have Hiro, the fun loving but cautious grandson of the famous Gwyn. Hiro will be the anchor throughout the entire story keeping the party together and on track. He is a genuinely nice guy, and makes friends pretty easily as you will see throughout you progress in the game. Hiro has a natural knack for getting in and out of trouble, and trust me your going to need it. Ronfar: Ronfar is another fun loving young man, a little older than Hiro, but not by much. He was once a priest and his ghosts of the past continue to haunt him. He will be vital to your party, assuming you can keep him alive. He will act as a guiding light for Hiro, but in his own immature and sarcastic way, but when you really get down to him, he's a great guy, but will his past ghosts due him in? Jean: The ever-beautiful gypsy dancer that will prove to be an enormous gain to the party when she joins up. She too like Ronfar has ghosts from her past that continue to torture her, but will her strength and determination be able to set her free of the thing she most hates? Or will she self-destruct under the pressure, only time will tell. Lemina: To sum her up in a word, would be impossible. She is strong in the magic arts, but will her family troubles keep her subdued, and will it cost the party something vital? The leader of the New Magic Guild will either have to discover her self in a new light, or be swallowed up by the shadowy figure that looms to destroy her future, the choice is hers, but only story will tell. Ok, now that we have met our heroes, I'd say its time for a look at our villains, because as we all know the story wouldn't matter if the villains weren't cool. I am going to give Working Designs a huge pat on the back for doing such a good job with the evil element of the story. We see some returning from past experiences, new foes arising and deception and deceit at every turn, but is the reality of the situation what it seems, or is that just the sadistic villains once again? Lets meet them and judge for yourself. Mysterious Guardian?: Who is this mysterious creature who is aligned himself with Zophar? Will he ever show himself? Will he ever come out and face our brave heroes or will the mistakes of his past lead him down another road, only time and patience will tell, but this villain is not one to be taken lightly, for he holds the key of life and death for our young party, whether they know it or not. Zophar: Zophar the destroyer, the most evil thing seen in the world of Lunar since the time of the last Dragonmaster Alex, and the vanquishing of the monster Ghaleon. He has called Lucia the destroyer in an effort to get rid of his most hated threat before she has a chance to stop him, but will a new situation arise and put a holt on this plan, or will evil prevail yet again? Althena?: Is this wicked woman we will come to know truly the Goddess that lived in the time of Alex or is she simply and diversion or illusion propelled by the evil magic of Zophar? Only time will tell yet again, but for the sake of Lunar, and the entire human people, we can only hope that there is a twist in this tale that has not yet been revealed, or our heroes could be in some trouble. Now that we have taken a little preview of our villains, do you still think this is a story meant for small children? I would certainly hope not unless your kid is Chucky or Problem Child. We have taken a look at most of the major players in this story and hopefully sparked some curiosity in what will become of them, not it is on to the sound, another equally important part of the game The sound in a game can be one of the most important elements and give the game the edge it needs to go to the top, or it can be the weak link that causes it to come crashing down. The music soundtrack used in Lunar 2 was genius, and it was not that weakest link, but only embedded the already great game down even more into the slot for best game ever. In a lot of games the music is thought of as something you just have to have but apparently that's not what Working Designs was thinking when they came up with the tracks for Lunar 2, using some of the original stuff from the Sega CD and Saturn releases, and coming up with some new re-mastered stuff to give it a little techno flair. The story coincides with the music in a way that most people don't realize. The ups and downs of the story can be magnified and brought even more to life through the music if it is done properly, and Lunar 2 is a classic example of this. In all of the most emotional points of the story, we don't the same monotone music just blaring through like in a lot of games, we see a change of pace that I think adds a lot. The voice acting which plays a pretty big role in this game was done amazingly well compared to some games done in the past (not by Working Designs, but in general.) In all of the FMV cut scenes, words match up with mouth movement almost to the exact which is a big plus, because no one wants a game looking like an old Godzilla movie right? You can learn more about the voice acting in the "Making of Lunar 2" CD, there is a whole thing on it. Another thing that impressed me that most people don't really notice, is how the voice of the characters matches up with the look and personality of the characters. You can't have a character like Jean, who is supposed to be very beautiful go and have a trucker Bob voice, then she would lose her effect, you know? Now there was a little but of talk about how repetitive the things they say in battle are "Taste my Refreshments" is a phrase you will come to know and love. But I think this adds a comedic cliche to the game that many lack. The gameplay, no game can survive without it, and it is rarely mastered by anyone even a company as great as Working Designs. The gameplay in an overall category is as close to perfection as I've ever seen. it is simple and user friendly, but doesn't tone down the effects of the story. The game plays at a good speed, its not blinding fast but keeps you entertained. The controller configuration and the in-game menus are super easy to figure out and actually kind of entertaining to fool around with sometimes. One of the things I most enjoyed about the game was the battle system, but we'll go into that a little bit more later. Gameplay can mean a lot of things, it can be how well the game flows, it can be how much your entertained by it or the speed at which it performs and the story moves, but whatever you want to call it Lunar 2 is tops. Ok, now lets get back to this battle system that I like so much. Part of it is because the spells themselves and the items and all of that stuff is so easy to coordinate, and it even comes with an AI feature which is basically like cruise control, and lets you set a certain number of attack orders/spells and it will just do it for you when you want to. The other thing I liked how they stuck to what worked. They didn't try to go all revolutionary and make some totally new system that was ground breaking, but also a pain to use because it was only in its early stages. They kept it simple and did a great job just fine tuning what worked from the Sega CD and Saturn versions. If you've played Lunar 1 and you liked the battle system your going to love this. Now I had been saving this category because aside from the characters its what I wanted to talk about the most. And if you hadn't guessed it already, Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, its time for GRAPHICS! Lunar 2 for the majority of the game is going to be in what I call old school 2D graphics, but they're good 2D graphics, and we'll get more into that later. They're will also be a large number of FMV cut scenes, which are magnificently drawn and carried out, they somewhat resemble an anime cartoon. You will come to find the graphics that everyone thought were so kiddy, have, well, grown up. 2D graphics might not be the newest technology on the block, but if you ask me, it's the only way to do an RPG. Lunar 2 doesn't have to have the flashy FVIII graphics to get people to buy it, it uses all the elements of a game to lure buyers, not to say there is anything wrong with the 2D graphics. You might think "Well how can anything be detailed and stuff in 2D?" 2D is not as undetailed as you might think, trees still look like trees, and people are still people. They actually add a certain "camp" or "fun traveling" since about the game. You have the ability to explore all of these towns and stuff and there is actually a lot of work put in to make them and all the people and stuff look good, which they do of course. Now onto the magically FMV cut scenes. My god do these things really look good. I can't remember the exact number of them, but they always come in to display turning points, or very emotional or important points in the story. There are a couple which are just extremely touching, I mean they're all great but there are a couple that will just knock your socks off, so be on the lookout for these. Later the game may possibly allow you the feature to go back to the areas where you first triggered these scenes and collect them so you can view them again, bringing back some memories you might say. People usually have a little thing telling whether you should buy or rent the game that the review is featured on, but I don't think that's really necessary for this one, for a number of reason. A.) Renting this game would in no way even come close to giving you the necessary time to get to everything and see all that there is to know in the world of Lunar. B.) You've just got to get your hands on this collectors edition stuff, its really worth the extra money and you can say you've got it, bragging rights are always good. C.) How could you even think about just "renting" a game like this! Shame on you! Blockbuster probably doesn't even have it anyway, so nyah! 'Replay value? We don't need no stinking replay value!" Ok, now that your all done quoting Blazing Saddles, I'm going to give you a surprise, an RPG that *gasp has replay value! In my experience with this game, there are really main runs to play it, the first time just to beat it and to see the story line unfold. The second time to get all of the stuff you missed the first time. And the third time just for fun and to try to max out on everything, and do all of the optional side. Now what other game is entertaining enough that's an RPG to be able to play it 3 times one after the other and still not be bored, I don't know, you tell me. Ok, I realize I have been rambling on for a pretty long time now and its time to wrap things up, so we'll try to make the conclusion brief. For all of those people who read the introduction to this review, and were one of the people who still said it was "kiddy" or "Just another RPG with the same story" what do you have to say for yourself now, huh? And I will sum it up in this short phrase: What other game can offer you a mature and engrossing yet comical story line, the greatest bunch of diverse personalities for villains and heroes I've ever seen, and the gameplay, sound and other elements that games need all being rated at 10 for 10? Sorry about that, but it was actually a trick question, because there is no other game, only Lunar 2! Lunar Eternal Blue - 10/10 http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/recognition/4150.html - I know were not really supposed to do it, but that's why its "shameful." So if you've got the time, please go check out some of my other works which include titles such as: - Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Zelda: The Majora's Mask - Lunar 2: Eternal Blue - Final Fantasy IX That's all I wanted to say, thanks.
