RPGClassics Sweet Home Shrine

Bearing more than a passing similarity to Capcom's more well-known Resident Evil series, this game is oftened touted as the game that inspired Resident Evil in the first place. The premise is simple, but deceptively well executed: You control a news crew consisting of five people, each with his or her own special ability, as they try to find their way out of a haunted mansion in a reporting trip gone horribly wrong. The game plays like a traditional RPG, with random, Dragon Quest-inspired battles, but a great emphasis is placed on puzzle solving as well. But the game's greatest triumph is in the atmosphere it creates. Both the music and graphics do a fine job in creating a geniunely spooky game, especially when you consider the technical limitations of the NES. So, do yourself a favor and play with the lights on.
