RPGClassics Faxanadu Shrine

Faxanadu was another great 2D adventure game on the beginning years of NES. You start out as a nameless traveller who comes back to his hometown of Eolis which is located at the base of the great world tree. Of course, there's a conflict to solve: The dwarves (Oddly enough, Dworf in this game) have come from the underground to attack the elves, and with the dwarves came a drought. You must journey to the world tree and solve this problem. Along the journey, you must find artifacts and items to progress, along with buying new equipment to survive. Not quite impressive graphically, but this game is one of those games you just remember you've played, earning it the title of a classic in a NES gamer's eye.
